Steve King Goes All the Way White Supremacist

Mainstream GOP politics in the Trump era
Politics • Views: 34,773

Republican Rep. Steve King has had a long history of borderline racist statements. But this weekend he crossed that border for good, with a tweet that openly endorsed white nationalism.

And “white nationalism” is just another term for “white supremacism,” no matter how they try to deny it.

King is talking about anti-Muslim Dutch demagogue Geert Wilders, who’s also riding high right now on the far right nationalist movement, and who has called for the Koran to be banned and all Muslim immigration to be ended. In other words, very similar policy ideas to our current president and his advisers.

Steve King’s comment was recognized for what it is by the vile Daily Stormer website, where they wrote:

Steve King is basically an open white nationalist at this point.

King, of course, is not backing down or withdrawing his blatantly racist comment; he went on CNN earlier today and stood by every word.

Welcome to the Trump era, America, where the bad old days are roaring back into style with a vengeance.

OT: Holy hell, the auto play ads are at their worst now. I had two, one at the bottom and one on the side, that both started to play simultaneously, and the window kept flashing between both like slo-mo strobe, each one demanding window focus and refusing to relent for a good 10-15 seconds.

So I see King’s audition for hosting a prime time show on Fox News is going perfectly.

Well, one key difference is that livestock rarely have the materials or skills to short circuit or otherwise disable a portion of the fence’s electricity.

President Dwight Eisenhower’s opinion:

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. […] Is there no other way the world may live?”

And when the cow has a bad pregnancy the conservative forces her to carry to term even though the calf is dead and the cow won’t survive. That leaves them with a bull that doesn’t give milk and just shits a lot.

Carried over from the last thread:

Every year the local high school here does an “honor and remember” sort of presentation for veterans on or near Veterans Day.

Amongst other things they do is the school band plays the marching songs of each military service (Off We Go for the Air Force, Anchors Aweigh for the Navy, Semper Paratus for the Coast Guard, &c). Veterans stand when the particular song for their service is played.

Since this is a small community and everyone knows everyone else in the county, the Coasties who served in Korea, Vietnam, and other wars and conflicts will stand as well.

I would not expect wingnuts to understand what it is the Coast Guard does (during wartime port security for the Navy, patrols, &c). In our village cemetery there are members of the Coast Guard who were killed in combat.

I had to look up the “two cows” parable to find out where it came from: The Wall Street Journal in 1938.

barrypopik.com

“You have two cows…” is the start of a joke that’s also called the “Parable of the Isms.” The joke illustrates what happens to the two cows under Socialism, Communism, Capitalism, Naziiism, New Dealism, Idealism, Realism, Bushism, Obamaism, and other “-isms.”

The Wall Street Journal published the joke on November 15, 1938. The joke might have originated either there or in the Chicago Journal of Commerce (which was also given credit in November 1938).

Have to read through the full scoring, but combine that with the JCT, and this is an epic shit show the GOP has on its hands. They’re going to make health care unaffordable for millions, millions will lose insurance, and their saving grace is that the CBO will say that it reduces the deficit over 10 years. That’s because all the burdens get shifted to the insureds (or formerly insureds).

GOP will crow about the cost-savings (assuming there are any—the inability to analyze macroeconomic effects renders the cost-savings suspect). They will also point out that it is a good thing that the 17 million without care in 2018 would be “by choice”, since the mandate goes away. This, of course, shows a horrific understanding of risk pools and the cheapest ways to provide insurance. It also doesn’t really factor in those that would still buy insurance, regardless of mandate, but who get priced out of the market.

Actual ‘Conservative’.

Once you have a herd of cows your neighbour forms a gang and steals your cows. A third of both gang members and cows die in the crossfire.

You form a gang to steal yours back, and take his as well in revenge. A third of both gang members and cows die in the crossfire.

Then one of your gang members cuts your throat and takes off with a third of the cows. The rest are taken by the other gang members. A third of both gang members and cows die in the crossfire.

This continues until everyone is reduced to a hunter-gatherer level. ‘Conservatives’ are happy with this because it’s the purest form of tradition.

If I read correctly, AHCA would raise annual insurance cost for 64-year-old w/$26,500 income by $12,900. They went forward with this?

Jon Podhoretz whined that it’s not fair to say that millions will LOSE insurance, because, really, they’ll opt out.

Much as I opted out of buying the Bentley I could never dream of affording, for example.

Oh, and the whole thing saves only $337 Billion over 10 years. It would have been nearly $1 Trillion, except for the $600 Billion in tax cuts exclusively for the very wealthiest.

The upshot is that a significant shift to the left on economic policy issues might fail to attract white Trump supporters, even in the working class. You have two cows. You graze them on federal land without paying grazing fees and they do tremendous damage to ecology of federal lands because you don’t care where they roam or do damage to water supply. The cows go hungry and you have an armed standoff with federal officials who seek payment. You claim ownership of federal lands that never belonged to you.

Opt for un-medicated, un-supervised, un-sterile home birth. Buy kids vaccinations from Tijuana or a vetrinary clinic—no more kennel cough for anyone!

At SXSW in Austin last week, as part of a marketing campaign for “The Man in the High Castle,” Amazon launched “Resistance Radio,” a fake Internet-based radio station broadcast by the fictional American “Resistance” from the show.

“Hijacking the airwaves, a secret network of DJs broadcast messages of hope to keep the memory of a former America alive,” the website said. Click through, and an interactive image of an antique, dual-knob radio appears while mod tunes drift through your computer’s speakers. In between songs, DJs on three different stations speak about how to fight the “Reich” in America.

Soon #ResistanceRadio, the campaign’s sponsored hashtag, spread like wildfire on Twitter. Some Trump supporters seemingly mistook it for an anti-Trump radio station and expressed their displeasure. (Amazon founder Jeffrey P. Bezos owns The Washington Post.)

I know you’re joking, but ER’s will be hiring like crazy to deal with the influx of uninsured patients. Except those medical bills will cost more the same way rebuilding an engine costs more than an oil change. And instead of the government subsidizing insurance rates for the poor everyone will be paying to cover the vastly increased cost of those bankrupted obligations.

Larry Klayman Will Be Jeff Sessions’ ‘Hamburger Helper’ To Help Him Put The ‘Evil Forces Of The Left’ In Prison

“I commend Attorney General Jeff Sessions,” Klayman said, “and I hope to work with him in this noble goal. This is just round one. It’s time that the evil forces of the left be legally destroyed. In this world that we live in today, it’s either them or us; the two of us cannot live side-by-side. One is going to have to go, legally, peacefully. But these people who are trying to destabilize the Trump presidency and not have this country be made great again, frankly, they need to be thrown in prison.”

Trump didn’t read the plan he supports. He doesn’t care.
Ryan doesn’t care that his plan kicks millions off coverage all to give massive tax cuts to people who don’t need them and shifting the burdens to those least able to afford them.

How does the CBO arrive at premiums dropping at the back end of their computations? They figure that millions of older/sicker people wont be able to afford coverage, so presto-chango, the numbers work. Millions lose access to care, and the GOP thinks this is a good thing.

These heartless fuckers deserve to be punished for putting out this bullshit. But I wonder if the Democrats can generate the needed groundswell to retake Congress in 2018, or to win those few statehouse rounds this year.

These kinds of numbers should be the death of the GOP. It wont, because too many GOPers think that tax cuts designed to go to the 1% will somehow benefit them.

There is no way he would ever be hired to work in a coal mine ever again, even if those jobs came back (which they aren’t).

I missed that part. What did he think he’d get a job doing?

BTW, Josh Marshall did a Twitter thread yesterday pointing out a couple interesting things about coal mining. The shocker to me was that in about 1920, a million people were employed in the coal industry. That number started to drop, somewhere along about 1925. Meanwhile, the peak of employment was nowhere near the peak of production, which was around maybe 1990.

The upshot was that miners were 1% of all people in America, a huge bloc in the labor force and largely unionized by 1940. There were so many that a lot of the decrease in union membership nationally was simply the loss of jobs in coal mining.

It provides some perspective on why Trump used the “We’re gonna bring back COAL!” lie, because bad as the work was, it paid well and kept families fed. Those jobs aren’t coming back, and Trump knew it when he said it. But he got a lot of people to vote against their own interests by promising it.

Rex Huppke, Chicago Tribune: Rep. Steve King shows it’s time to deport certain white men

It’s never easy to be a truth-teller, but as a white man I feel it necessary to say what many in this country are thinking: It’s time to start deporting certain white men.

Not all of them, of course. Some are quite good.

But people like Iowa Rep. Steve King have got to go — for the good of our culture, our demographics and our civilization.

I reached that conclusion Sunday after King got on Twitter to express his agreement with the views of virulently anti-Muslim Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

Former CIA operative Evan McMullin, a thoughtful conservative who ran for president, co-founded a Trump-opposed group called Stand Up Republic that is trying to “help Americans stand up in defense of the fundamental principles that have made this country the true home of liberty and a source of hope for many around the world.”

McMullin tweeted about King’s comment, saying the congressman “promotes the un-American ideas of white nationalism” and asking: “Will any Republican congressmen condemn his bigotry?”

Perhaps a few, but not enough. Which brings us back to the ways in which our culture — our true American culture — is being threatened by certain white men.

Our rich culture and diverse demographics make us great. And in order to maintain our civilization, we’ve got to deport babies like King and Duke and Chaffetz and Marshall.

I want to assure everyone that the removal of these men will be very humane. We might even consider just putting them all in Florida and jettisoning the state into the sea. (Trump already has a place down there he seems to like, so he’ll be comfortable.)

Better yet, we can just make clear to certain white men that our American values forbid us from accepting their rhetoric. We can extend a hand to people in need, embrace all actual babies, be the country that doesn’t abandon its principles out of fear, and knock down walls — physical and ideological — that try to keep us separate.

That will make life intolerable for certain white men like King. And then, if we’re lucky, they may just self-deport.

We all know why that is.

There are only two kinds of Republicans:

1) Stone cold racists (e.g., Steve King) and

2) People so militantly indifferent to racism and instinctively opposed to doing anything about it that they might as well be stone cold racists (e.g., John Roberts).

re: #306 EPR-radar

Step 3, provide that information to a 21st century einsatzgruppen.

Nah, step 3 is to use the information to begin segregation of American citizens. Bar those deemed “genetically inferior” by saying the cost of accommodating them would be greater than the profit made from them. Businesses barring them from the workforce by saying they’d cost too much to employ, schools barring by saying they’d raise insurance costs, banks refusing to provide them loans or credit by saying they’d never pay it back, landlords refusing to rent to them, etc, etc.

Then step 4 is beginning to isolate those deemed “inferior,” moving them to gated communities we dare not call camps while assuring the public at large that this is for their own good. They’re homeless, jobless, disposed, and so these communities are to keep them from being a burden on those who are deemed “superior.” And use the placement in the communities as an excuse to get around constitutional rights, such as barring them from elections by saying that if they had a vote, they would elect sympathetic politicians who’d unleash them on society again.

Even as the Labor Department awaits confirmation of a new secretary, officials say enforcement actions are moving forward against companies accused of violating workplace safety rules.

There is just one issue: The public isn’t likely to know much about them.

In a sharp break with the past, the department has stopped publicizing fines against companies. As of Monday, seven weeks after the inauguration of President Trump, the department had yet to post a single news release about an enforcement fine.

snip

In addition to the rule on worker retaliation, several other OSHA regulations or standards, on issues like record-keeping practices and use of a mineral linked to a deadly lung disease, face delay or elimination.

Last week, the Senate passed a measure to repeal an Obama-era rule that required companies seeking significant federal contracts to disclose violations of labor standards, like safety and fair-pay rules, or instances when they were accused of such violations. The so-called blacklisting rule was intended to prevent companies that violated workplace regulations from getting federal money.

Alan Chvotkin, executive vice president for the Professional Services Council, a trade association that represents federal contractors, hailed the measure, which Mr. Trump may now sign into law. He said the rule was onerous and unfair, because companies had to report unproved accusations.

“The regulatory scheme was overly burdensome,” Mr. Chvotkin said. “We applaud the change.”

One of the largest redistributions of wealth, from poor to rich, we’ve ever seen, cutting $1 trillion from programs to support poor and middle-class families so that they can give an $883 billion tax cut to the wealthy.

“The Congressional Budget Office’s assessment of Republicans’ plan to replace Obamacare is a description of one of the largest, most significant income redistribution programs the US government has ever considered — from the poor to the wealthy rather than the other way around.

The plan, the CBO concludes, would take more than $1 trillion away from programs targeting poor and middle-class families, to fund an $883 billion tax cut targeted at the wealthy. It is upward income redistribution of a truly massive scale.”

I think Ryancare is a dead bill walking. Lots of Republicans won’t want to go into the midterms having just taken healthcare coverage away from 14 million people.

Score one blow to science.

So, this week is the Society of Toxicoly meeting in Bawlimore. I was at the 9:30-12:15 session (discussion was organs on a chip) which was quite interesting. The final speaker gets up and starts his talk by stating that two of his co-founders are not present. One, a 30 year citizen of Germany, was born in Tehran. Despite multiple discussions with the US embassy, he was denied a visa to travel here. The other German stayed home in solidarity. The speaker noted wryly that while he could have boycotted the meeting, it would have kinda silly since he now taught at Johns Hopkins and was only 10 minutes away.

This is Not A Good Thing for scientific exchange. And, I do not see the travel restrictions improving as this perverted government becomes more entrenched and more comfortable with blatant racism. That last sentence seems kinda late after all the Steve King stuff, but. A giant shit-show that we are encumbered with.

re: #314 Charles Johnson

Disingenuous in exactly the same way “Liberal Fascism” was.

To the extent there was an Nazi “environmentalism” is was tied to pastoralism of the Marie-Antoinette’s-shepherdesses variety that were at root about racism (hence Blood and Soil): the Aryan mastering and controlling the land to meet the needs of the Volk. This meant (1) a sort of agrarian small-town lifestyle where Aryans were dispersed throughout the conquered territory that was previously Slavic and Jewish, because part of Volkisch sentiment was a banal sentimentality about rural living; (2) an equally race-based understanding of the importance of exercise and enjoyment of the outdoors…again based in volkisch notions of what was Aryan…in which Germans were encouraged to exercise and be cultivate their bodies because they would be required to either be soldiers or bear soldiers; (3) seeing challenging nature, and in particular hunting, as activities as instilling the ready-for-war “strength” that National Socialism demanded of the individual—Hitler was the sole vegetarian* amongst men who enjoy blood sports, and he didn’t sway anybody to join him.

(not that there was a coherent Nazi policy on anything. There were individuals who were deeply caught up in the pastoralism of little German villages, and tried to push the idea forward. Other Nazis were technocrats preoccupied with mega-cities. The NSDAP leadership cadre was basically a bunch of nutter idealists who competed for funding and manpower—there was no real central “plan” except (1) expansionism and permanent war footing, (2) racial hierarchy in which non-Aryans simply had no franchise or rights)

“Overpopulation” was attributed to inferior races who were supposedly trying to breed out Aryans, and also sexually incontinent, and also just degenerate in general. The racial theories weren’t on the back burner of that notion.

In practice, the Nazi interest in nature had zero to do with ecology, species preservation, biodiversity, or an of the scientific grounds on which modern environmentalism was based. “Nature”—like everything else—was a stage on which to exult themselves. When it inconvenienced them (such as when carving out the paths for the autobahn), it was cast to the wayside.

*tangent: from accounts, Hitler wasn’t so much a vegetarian as a man-baby who didn’t eat things he didn’t like and found an excuse. So his “vegetarian” diet was pretty vegetable-sparse; he liked beans and sweets, and apparently had terrible dental issues and terrible gas throughout his adult life. Seriously, what a fucking twat.

My prediction now is that Ryan will table the bill, claiming that it requires “revision” in light of the CBO report. When the press calls him on it, he’ll say he’s doing what the Democrats should have done with Obamacare, going back to the drawing board rather than pushing forward with an unpopular bill. Trump won’t treat it as backtracking or a failure, he’ll insist that it’s for the good because Obamacare will “collapse” by next year and Republicans will be elected in droves by that “failure.”

And when Republicans run next year for reelection, they’ll meet charges that they were prepared to strip 24 million people of insurance by insisting that the bill never came to a vote, but if it had they would have voted against it “in that form.” They’ll run next year on the same fantasy bill they’ve been promising for the past 9 years.

Rep. Gutierrez Handcuffed After Refusing to Leave Meeting with ICE

“There has been no dialogue, no transparency, no consultation, and no accountability - just like every other aspect of how this White House does business,” Gutierrez said in a statement about Monday’s incident. “It is heavy-handed government in secret all to make the new strongman President look tough and to satisfy the cravings of his coliseum audience for some immigrants to sacrifice.”

Are they in white collar jobs? Than no, probably not. White collar OSHA crime is uncommon, usually paperwork violations in documenting the protection of the proles. The working poor will be the ones to suffer.

“You didn’t have a caisson system in the trench where you were upgrading a fiber-optic line and it collapsed, engulfing and killing four people? Not to worry! These things happen! Oh, gotcha now.

Definitely, and the state is just expanding the number of positions. (Positions are paid half by the state and half by the feds.) But the feds are going to gut OSHA standards and Congress is probably going to cut the grant program for state plans.

But I’ll still wager the Trump supporting wingnuts, who have worked their entire lives for the government, won’t ever turn against Trump.

But they were cheering on the CBO when it came time for the ACA to be evaluated…

It goes farther than that. The very projections they’re now touting as evidence that the CBO needs to be shut down are the projections they’ve used for years to attack the ACA, claiming that the bill became law based upon faulty projections that never came true. Of course, what they never say aloud is that the CBO couldn’t project that the Roberts court would make the Medicaid expansion optional and that dozens of red states would refuse to expand Medicaid out of partisan bitterness.

They obviously didn’t pick the right guy, they must had thought he would totally cook the books to give a good analysis.

Yeah, when the courts carve up your legislation before it’s hardly had any impact, it’s pretty hard to claim that the projections shouldn’t be invalidated.

Ayep, the “Step 2” that Price insists the CBO doesn’t take into account will no doubt include regulations regarding who ERs can and can’t turn away. Chief among those who will be turned away? People who can’t show an insurance card before admission.

So they lambasted the CBO for projections that turned out to be false because of factors they had no possible knowledge of, and now here we are again, with the CBO making projections and getting slammed because of factors they have no possible knowledge of.

Option 1: They cannot fail, can only be failed.

Option 2: Why not use this opportunity to shut down another bit of government that provides data-based analysis?

Option 3: Got to keep up the constant feeling that “government” is a bad thing…except for their authoritarian, opaque one.

The funny thing about all this? The “Freedom” Caucus will vote against the bill not because of the carnage it will cause, but because it’s not full repeal.

I’m starting to take seriously the theory that the GOP is moving fast on this bill so it will die quickly. Then they can say they tried to repeal Obamacare and move on to their real passion, tax reform. The Democrats painstakingly laid the groundwork for healthcare reform and negotiated with all the stakeholders and even the GOP in a laborious process. The GOP just slapped something together and made zero effort to get anyone on board, and as a result everyone hates it. That is either gross incompetence or deliberate.

That’s correct. The only GOP pushback is that it isn’t vindictive enough.

To be fair, there are Republicans pushing to save Medicaid expansion. Obviously not the Freedom Caucus, or my Senator, Rand Paul, who doesn’t give a shit about his 400k constituents who got covered through medicaid expansion.

Only problem with that theory? Senator Yertle just came out this weekend saying that Congress wouldn’t tackle tax reform before their August recess. If you think that’s implausible, take this into mind: Congress has only scheduled 8 working days next month.

The problem with that theory is that if the GOP guts the ACA, they will use those huge tax cuts for the rich as a baseline from where further tax cuts will start. No way do they give up on that without a fight.

Try it motherfucker. You’re going to find out the hard way that you asshats aren’t the only ones who are willing to fight or bleed for what they believe in.

I don’t think very many of them at all are willing to bleed and die for the stated beliefs. A few of the most delusional dupes will, to be sure, but for most it is a scam. They don’t truly believe what they are saying. We can see this in the enormous gap between their blood curdling threats, backed by millions of guns, and their actions. The latter are typically limited to a few crazy people who apparently missed part of the memo and don’t realize that it is all a fig leaf for greed and an excuse to blow off some steam with abusive rhetoric.

They better start fighting soon, because this bill was already in trouble before the CBO’s disastrous score came out today. Ryan spinning like a dervish isn’t going to convince many Republicans to stick their necks out and vote for this stinker.
