Steve King Goes All the Way White Supremacist

Republican Rep. Steve King has had a long history of borderline racist statements. But this weekend he crossed that border for good, with a tweet that openly endorsed white nationalism.

And “white nationalism” is just another term for “white supremacism,” no matter how they try to deny it.

King is talking about anti-Muslim Dutch demagogue Geert Wilders, who’s also riding high right now on the far right nationalist movement, and who has called for the Koran to be banned and all Muslim immigration to be ended. In other words, very similar policy ideas to our current president and his advisers.

Steve King’s comment was recognized for what it is by the vile Daily Stormer website, where they wrote:

Steve King is basically an open white nationalist at this point.

King, of course, is not backing down or withdrawing his blatantly racist comment; he went on CNN earlier today and stood by every word.

Carried over from the last thread:

Every year the local high school here does an “honor and remember” sort of presentation for veterans on or near Veterans Day.

Amongst other things they do is the school band plays the marching songs of each military service (Off We Go for the Air Force, Anchors Aweigh for the Navy, Semper Paratus for the Coast Guard, &c). Veterans stand when the particular song for their service is played.

Since this is a small community and everyone knows everyone else in the county, the Coasties who served in Korea, Vietnam, and other wars and conflicts will stand as well.

I would not expect wingnuts to understand what it is the Coast Guard does (during wartime port security for the Navy, patrols, &c). In our village cemetery there are members of the Coast Guard who were killed in combat.

They’re going to make health care unaffordable for millions, millions will lose insurance, and their saving grace is that the CBO will say that it reduces the deficit over 10 years. That’s because all the burdens get shifted to the insureds (or formerly insureds).

There’s been a handful of disaster declarations since January 20. Severe storms through the Southeast. But think this is the first real test of FEMA and Trump’s natural disaster response policies. After all, we’re talking about 120-150 million or more people who are affected by this storm track from the Carolinas and Upper Midwest all the way through the Middle Atlantic and into New England.

Except those medical bills will cost more the same way rebuilding an engine costs more than an oil change. And instead of the government subsidizing insurance rates for the poor everyone will be paying to cover the vastly increased cost of those bankrupted obligations.

I saw something yesterday that made me shake my head in sheer wonderment. One of the West Virginians interviewed for a “They Voted For Trump, Now They’re Fucked” article was a laid-off coal miner. He wasn’t worried about what Trump was gonna do to the ACA, because he figured Trump would get him his job in the mines back and he’d have good benefits.

I really don’t know what to say to that kind of thinking.

Ryan doesn’t care that his plan kicks millions off coverage all to give massive tax cuts to people who don’t need them and shifting the burdens to those least able to afford them.

How does the CBO arrive at premiums dropping at the back end of their computations? They figure that millions of older/sicker people wont be able to afford coverage, so presto-chango, the numbers work. Millions lose access to care, and the GOP thinks this is a good thing.

These heartless fuckers deserve to be punished for putting out this bullshit. But I wonder if the Democrats can generate the needed groundswell to retake Congress in 2018, or to win those few statehouse rounds this year.

These kinds of numbers should be the death of the GOP. It wont, because too many GOPers think that tax cuts designed to go to the 1% will somehow benefit them.

I missed that part. What did he think he’d get a job doing?

BTW, Josh Marshall did a Twitter thread yesterday pointing out a couple interesting things about coal mining. The shocker to me was that in about 1920, a million people were employed in the coal industry. That number started to drop, somewhere along about 1925. Meanwhile, the peak of employment was nowhere near the peak of production, which was around maybe 1990.

The upshot was that miners were 1% of all people in America, a huge bloc in the labor force and largely unionized by 1940. There were so many that a lot of the decrease in union membership nationally was simply the loss of jobs in coal mining.

It provides some perspective on why Trump used the “We’re gonna bring back COAL!” lie, because bad as the work was, it paid well and kept families fed. Those jobs aren’t coming back, and Trump knew it when he said it. But he got a lot of people to vote against their own interests by promising it.

It’s never easy to be a truth-teller, but as a white man I feel it necessary to say what many in this country are thinking: It’s time to start deporting certain white men.

But people like Iowa Rep. Steve King have got to go — for the good of our culture, our demographics and our civilization.

I reached that conclusion Sunday after King got on Twitter to express his agreement with the views of virulently anti-Muslim Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

Former CIA operative Evan McMullin, a thoughtful conservative who ran for president, co-founded a Trump-opposed group called Stand Up Republic that is trying to “help Americans stand up in defense of the fundamental principles that have made this country the true home of liberty and a source of hope for many around the world.”

McMullin tweeted about King’s comment, saying the congressman “promotes the un-American ideas of white nationalism” and asking: “Will any Republican congressmen condemn his bigotry?”

Perhaps a few, but not enough. Which brings us back to the ways in which our culture — our true American culture — is being threatened by certain white men.

Our rich culture and diverse demographics make us great. And in order to maintain our civilization, we’ve got to deport babies like King and Duke and Chaffetz and Marshall.

I want to assure everyone that the removal of these men will be very humane. We might even consider just putting them all in Florida and jettisoning the state into the sea. (Trump already has a place down there he seems to like, so he’ll be comfortable.)

Better yet, we can just make clear to certain white men that our American values forbid us from accepting their rhetoric. We can extend a hand to people in need, embrace all actual babies, be the country that doesn’t abandon its principles out of fear, and knock down walls — physical and ideological — that try to keep us separate.

That will make life intolerable for certain white men like King. And then, if we’re lucky, they may just self-deport.

Bar those deemed “genetically inferior” by saying the cost of accommodating them would be greater than the profit made from them. They’re homeless, jobless, disposed, and so these communities are to keep them from being a burden on those who are deemed “superior.” And use the placement in the communities as an excuse to get around constitutional rights, such as barring them from elections by saying that if they had a vote, they would elect sympathetic politicians who’d unleash them on society again.

So, this week is the Society of Toxicoly meeting in Bawlimore. I was at the 9:30-12:15 session (discussion was organs on a chip) which was quite interesting. The final speaker gets up and starts his talk by stating that two of his co-founders are not present. One, a 30 year citizen of Germany, was born in Tehran. Despite multiple discussions with the US embassy, he was denied a visa to travel here. The other German stayed home in solidarity. The speaker noted wryly that while he could have boycotted the meeting, it would have kinda silly since he now taught at Johns Hopkins and was only 10 minutes away.

This is Not A Good Thing for scientific exchange. And, I do not see the travel restrictions improving as this perverted government becomes more entrenched and more comfortable with blatant racism. That last sentence seems kinda late after all the Steve King stuff, but. A giant shit-show that we are encumbered with.

Definitely, and the state is just expanding the number of positions. (Positions are paid half by the state and half by the feds.) But the feds are going to gut OSHA standards and Congress is probably going to cut the grant program for state plans.

It goes farther than that. The very projections they’re now touting as evidence that the CBO needs to be shut down are the projections they’ve used for years to attack the ACA, claiming that the bill became law based upon faulty projections that never came true. Of course, what they never say aloud is that the CBO couldn’t project that the Roberts court would make the Medicaid expansion optional and that dozens of red states would refuse to expand Medicaid out of partisan bitterness.
