Talk about having contempt for your constituents. Coal miners could never enjoy opera. The children in a single parent household don’t need to know their colors when they start school.
Years ago, while living in the Great American Heartland, I helped out in my son’s kindergarten class. There was a boy who didn’t know the names of any of the colors. At first I thought maybe he was colorblind, but no. This was predicated by an attempt on Luthor’s part to link Superman to a kryptonite asteroid that is hurtling toward Earth, claiming that he had ‘evidence’- which he declined to share while claiming that it would make the public laud his actions if they knew it- that the asteroid was being drawn to Earth by Superman, offering a billion dollar reward for Superman’s capture that pitted Superman and Batman against an army of villains, all of whom they defeated
@TheFix This is a perfect distillation of why so many people loathe beltway insiders like Cillizza. Fuck the poor, but he is so good at it!

Ironically this is what people should despise about Trump but because he panders to their bigotry, they’re a oaky with it.

Uh yes, because that’s how it was presented to us during the Obama years. Every time the White House asked for less because that’s what the DoD told them to do, it was presented to us as “DEFENSE CUTS!!!”
This presidency is like watching a low IQ Ebenezer Scrooge insult the Spirits of Christmas before ordering a drone strike on Tiny Tim.

That’s not nearly dark enough for these motherfuckers. A Christmas Carol according to right wing nut jobs is an action tale where our Hero, Ebenezer Scrooge, ghost-busts those annoying spirits into ectoplasmic goo, and then carves up roasted Tiny Tim for Christmas Dinner.
Just saw this posted elsewhere. Repeat these points far and wide to counteract the grotesque GOP/beltway “durr hurr less guvmint” spin (emphasis mine):
There is only one reason for the existence of government: to protect its people from harm, whether foreign or domestic.
The Environmental Protection Agency,
The Department of Education
The Department of the Interior
The Department of Energy
The Department of Housing and Urban Development
The Department of Agriculture
The Department of Commerce
The Department of Defense
The Department of Health and Human Services
The Department of Labor
The Department of Veteran’s AffairsThese departments exist for our protection from unscrupulous actors who would destroy our land, air and sea; put us at a disadvantage in world trade; visit blight upon our cities and towns; abuse us in our workplaces; leave us unprepared for the future; allow us to get sick and die for their own greed; etc.
To destroy any of these departments is to literally destroy us, the people.
It would open the doors for robber barons, thieves, hucksters and psychopaths to wreak havoc on human beings.
Government is meant to be of the people, by the people and for the people, not of the CEOs, by the lobbyists, and for the corporations.
The malevolently misleading “less government” meme has been allowed to go unchallenged way the fuck too long. Time to “take it back”, so to speak, and use it against the GOP:
“Less government? Fine. Less water protection, less support for seniors, less medical care, less food safety…shall we go on?”

It is useful to remember that fiscal conservatism (i.e., giving everything to the wealthy at everyone else’s expense) is the Heart of Darkness of movement conservatism.
All of its innumerable other perversions and evils are done in service to this single imperative of unjustly enriching the wealthy.

This makes perfect if we apply the RWNJ secret decoder ring to the key term ‘results’.
Results = income for plutocrats.
So of course Republicans think Meals on Wheels provides no ‘results’.

I could make some pithy remark or a long analysis, but a short answer is best: They’re whores. They get paid to sit there and let Spicer piss all over them on live TV. Why? Because their bosses think this shit sells.

re: #30 Sionainn, the Nasty Devilbitch
“Happens more often than you’d think. We actually had a kindergartner show up on the bus on the first day of school with no paperwork. When asked his name, he said “Sweetie.” That’s it. He had absolutely no idea what his name was!”
I know you’re telling the truth. I am a retired high school teacher, and I often encountered students who had reached the Ninth Grade and were reading at a Third Grade Level. They were in my World History classes. There was no way they were able to read the information in the textbook and understand it, but that didn’t keep the BOE from demanding that their teachers prepare them to pass the state-mandated test they needed to pass to earn a diploma. The BOE and head principal could demand we educate these students while ignoring the fact that they entered high school totally unprepared to master the material in any class they were required to take.
