Breaking: Former Trump Campaign Manager Manafort Secretly Worked to Benefit Putin Government

The Russian influence story expands again
Politics • Views: 39,661

The Associated Press has a report today that may cause heads to explode in the Trump administration. It appears former campaign manager Paul Manafort’s ties to the Putin regime were quite a bit more extensive than he’s admitted: AP Exclusive: Manafort had plan to benefit Putin government.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, secretly worked for a Russian billionaire to advance the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin a decade ago and proposed an ambitious political strategy to undermine anti-Russian opposition across former Soviet republics, The Associated Press has learned. The work appears to contradict assertions by the Trump administration and Manafort himself that he never worked for Russian interests.

Read it all. This looks very bad for Manafort — and for Donald Trump.

I’m old enough to remember when the GOP would want people tied to the electric chair if they colluded against the USA on Russia’s behalf.

Is this really breaking?

I ask only because anyone covering Manafort’s ascension to Trump campaign honcho included all kinds of references to his Russia connections and that he was compromised from the outset, just like Stone and all the rest.

Trump picked compromised candidates because they shared Trump’s worldview/beliefs (or those of Bannon). And they all help push Russian policies, up to and including adjusting the GOP platform at the convention to make it more favorable to Russia and watering down support for Ukraine.

None of this is good for the US, and the GOP continues to act as though the problem is the people who have uncovered the scandals - not that Trump and his cabal of cronies, which includes key GOPers - knew or had reason to know that they were compromised.

Flynn refused to sign Trump’s ethics pledge. He was a foreign agent. He was also Trump’s key adviser on national security. Whose policies was he pushing? It wasn’t US strategic interests he was advancing.

Everywhere you turn, Russia’s fingerprints are all over this administration, and the GOP don’t care (it’s not just for health care - or “health care” - #GOPDontCare)

The cynic in me says this leaked so it gives the GOP rank-and-file an excuse to torpedo Ayn Rand Paul Ryan’s ultimate wet dream.

The GOP is so dysfunctional that Ryan can blame Trump and Trump can blame Ryan.

Comey needs to be held accountable for pushing the email story days before the election while demurring on whether Trump was under investigation for the Russia compromise/ties.

But in the end, Comey is just part of the story. We need a full accounting of what Stone, Giuliani, Manafort, Lewandowski, and the Trump clan themselves were doing.

Stone and Manafort are the keys to unraveling this shit show. Stone has already indicated in tweets that he’s had contacts with Russian hackers, and the Trump campaign seemed to know before everyone else when Wikileaks would drop a new anti-Clinton cache of documents. That was no coincidence. That was coordination. Rudy’s statements also lean towards coordination.

Manafort’s ties are different. And they are more insidious since it goes to leveraging power behind the scenes and working contacts. Same as Flynn.

These 4 guys - Stone, Giuliani, Manafort, and Lewandowski - are key players in the Trump campaign and transition. They know what was going on.

That Manafort’s hired a crisis management team to address this shows he knows how fucked he is. The rest will soon follow, because they too are in jeopardy.

The NY FBI office needs to be cleaned out; based on what Giuliani has said over the past year, it’s clear that they were leaking details to him and pushing baffling BS to submarine Clinton. Whether Comey was in on it is now immaterial. He put his prestige and reputation behind those statements, and he owns them.

Apparently, GOPers are pissed at Sec. Def. Mattis too, because he’s not a GOP team player and wants to pick people who are qualified for the job, and simply wont play along with the GOP’s plans to massively expand the defense budget when it makes no sense to do so.

My irony meter is firmly pegged on .. nope.

They were warned. They were told Trump lies. They were told the GOP would gut the safety net - Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, environmental protections - all of it.

They didn’t care.

Only thing that mattered to a bunch of them was:

For some, it was also that they didn’t want a woman following the black guy in the White House.

In the end, enough decided in enough places that Trump was preferable. And now they’re regretting their choice? Too fucking late. We now have a thoroughly compromised govt and a GOP salivating to enact the most regressive and painful budget cuts in our nation’s history all to roll back the clock to the 50s (take your pick which century).

Of course, they’ll roll back everything except the tax cuts. Those are a priority for the rich, while everyone else gets stuck with the burdens. It’s what the GOP does. It’s who they are. And they have also convinced enough angry white guys in lower/middle class America that those cuts will help them. These are the people who think that repealing the estate tax helps them, even though you’d need to have an estate over $6 million to even be touched by the estate tax. Or that tax credits or HSAs help provide health care/coverage. Or that requiring people on Medicaid work to get the benefits makes sense. Or that … aw fuckit. These people are absolutely clueless about how any of this stuff works, and they believe the baffling bs from Trump because he speaks their language - short meaningless slogans.

The GOP is so dysfunctional that Ryan can blame Trump and Trump can blame Ryan.

Someone last night on MSNBC (I wasn’t paying close attention) was saying Ryan is only hoping to get that crappy health insurance law passed so he can tell the idiots that buy the GOP bullshit he did his job.

Then the hope is the Senate kills it and everyone can live on politically for a few weeks until they fuck up something else.

Wonderful Congress we have. It is all now just a big stupid reality show where everyone is gunning for ratings and doesn’t care about actual governing.

I want their ratings to tank so we can cancel this show and get some new actors in a new script.

The Freedom Caucus is now pushing for the elimination of certain minimum coverage standards mandated by the Affordable Care Act ― the so-called “Essential Health Benefits,” which are minimum services that insurance plans must offer, like hospitalization and lab services. Conservatives also have their sights on similar language in Title I of the ACA that constitutes a “Qualified Health Plan.” Eliminating those mandates would lower premiums because insurers could offer plans with huge gaps in coverage.

This would make the plan really even more Terrific, Bigly.

Back in the 80’s, when I was young and stropping and had not even seen the inside of a doctor’s office for years, I had a $50-per-month coverage plan with a $5,000 deductible.

That was not health insurance; it was bankruptcy insurance in case I got hit by a truck or something.

The GOP doesn’t do maths so good. They decided that their solution to Obamacare is to make it more expensive, cover 25 million fewer people, and think this is what people want?

Of course, there’s a bunch of Republicans who think that even this is too much federal assistance, and want even more cuts with nothing to replace it.

In other words, these extremists want to stick with the original repeal and don’t care plan that the CBO/JCT scoring found would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, and would mean 24 million lose coverage.

Apparently, GOPers are pissed at Sec. Def. Mattis too, because he’s not a GOP team player and wants to pick people who are qualified for the job, and simply wont play along with the GOP’s plans to massively expand the defense budget when it makes no sense to do so.

They probably realize the sound of the name could trigger people to go out and attack people that are from countries that have similar sounding names.

I do not mean that in a light way. Anymore it is probably best to take some time and get all the facts so that you can mitigate the public response and keep the torch and pitchfork crowd from over reacting.

So, if this incident in London is (1) a terror attack, and (2) it’s a terror attack carried out by a Muslim, and (3) that Muslim was a UK citizen (or a European citizen more broadly) that would mean that yet another attack in Europe was carried out by someone home-grown, and Trump’s logic of a Muslim travel ban from selected Muslim majority countries falls apart given how many recent attacks were carried out by lone wolves and domestic persons, not people coming in via visas.

It also bears repeating that more people in the US are killed by fellow US citizens with firearms than any number Muslim terrorist attacks. You’re far more likely to be killed by a family member with a gun than a Muslim terrorist. You’re far more likely to be killed in a mass shooting by an American than any other group.

Trump’s actions to “keep us safe” have been anything but. Proposing major cuts to the USCG doesn’t make us safer. Refusing to address firearms access doesn’t make us safer. Rolling back firearms rules enacted by Obama doesn’t make anyone safer.

Refusing to comment about white supremacists engaging in domestic terrorism doesn’t make us safer either.

That Nunes is even in a position to comment about this in the lead role of an investigation into Trump is mind boggling. He’s got conflicts of interest as having been a member of Trump’s transition team. So yeah, he could be commenting that he was incidentally caught in the FISA collection of communications.

At a minimum, he needs to recuse himself from any role in the investigation. The GOP wont make that happen though, but had it been a Democrat in this position, you’d be hearing calls for his resignation right now, let alone recusal.

A woman has died on Westminster Bridge in central London in what police are treating as a terrorist incident.
A police officer was also stabbed in the nearby Houses of Parliament by an attacker, who was shot by police.
Several pedestrians were struck by a car on the bridge, before it crashed into railings.
Police said there were “a number of casualties… including police officers” and a “full counter-terrorism inquiry” was under way.

Just how criminal this bad hombre is has been hard to establish, though. On Saturday, the Border Patrol public affairs office put out a news release that said, “The suspect has a criminal history related to drug offenses and has previously been removed from the U.S.”

That sounds significant until you actually go looking for this criminal history and find … nothing. No records in the federal court system or Arizona courts.

It’s possible he was convicted in another state, but if you read the Border Patrol news release carefully, you realize it’s also possible he was never convicted at all. A “criminal history” check generally includes cases in which arrests were made, but convictions were not obtained.

I asked Del Cueto of the union, and the agency itself, for help tracking down any convictions. They’ve turned up nothing yet. [Emphasis added]

He has one already…I am about to go check headlines at Fox and Newsmax, etc…

Why does seeing the screen header of Tommy Robinson also trigger my recognition abilities to tell me he has the similar appearance of Richard Spencer?

I guess all these white supremacist clods look alike?!

Expect Trump to spew all over this any minute, while totally ignoring the 80-100 murders that take place in this country today. Alex Jones and his asswipe Roger Stone will no doubt blame it on British intelligence.

Trump will be too busy claiming he was right about being wiretapped…London will be a footnote.

A Democrat should ask him: 1) If he’ll recuse himself from any case he’s already decided on, and 2) what he think of the SCOTUS overturning his decision.

Apparently he drove over the crowd, crashed the vehicle and then attempted to breach Parliament on foot.

re: #218 Belafon

A Democrat should ask him: 1) If he’ll recuse himself from any case he’s already decided on, and 2) what he think of the SCOTUS overturning his decision.

Already done:

Pressed on it during his hearing by Sen. Dick Durbin, Gorsuch said he was bound by circuit court precedent in the ruling. While it is true a judge should pay deference to previous court decisions under the legal doctrine of stare decisis, a judge is not bound to follow previous decisions of his court under all circumstances. Faced with a new case and a new set of facts, a judge may choose to overrule precedent.

Gorsuch pushed back when pressed again on it Wednesday afternoon: on this case, he said he was joined by Democrat-appointed judges and he argued the Supreme Court took the case in order to settle it for good, as circuit courts have disagreed on it for years.

Yes, it appears that the attacker first drove through crowds of people, before stopping and attempting to kill a police officer; other officers then shot and killed the assailant.

Shit, what a psychopath.

We were spared as Westminster Bridge is normally teeming with huge crowds so it could have been worse.
