On Thursday, after everything fell apart, the president* sent the head counselors at Camp Runamuck down to the Capitol to tell recalcitrant Republicans that what they had before them was his take-it-or-leave-it offer and that, if they chose not to pass it, then 24 million Americans wouldn’t lose their health insurance, get sick, go broke and/or die. The president* is betting that Republicans in Congress don’t want that on their consciences.

Pierce nails it again.

Yesterday a state of the art Mack tractor was rolled onto the White House lawn. Filled with new technology, it was eagerly anticipated by the president who marveled there was “no need to put quarters in it” and the size.
And here we have Donald Trump taking a test spin on the new advancement in long haul trucking; “The Captain’s Chair Crapper”. Industry analysts think it will save millions on wasted toilet stops and allow truckers to “Dump And Run” or “Go On The Go.” Another step forward in efficiency for the industry.

ALMOST….

I expect there’s going to be a rush to vote no at this point - GOP voting against their own AHCA/Trumpcare crapulence. No one wants to be held accountable for a vote that will later be used against them in the elections next year on a proposal that is universally disliked (not extreme enough for most GOPers, and flat out awful for everyone else)

Democrats (and GOP extremists) will be readying to cut ad spots showing GOPers for their support for this bill. A no vote undercuts the Democratic party attacks on the AHCA, while GOP extremists in the Freedom Caucus can claim the no vote was because this wasn’t radically pure enough for them. It didn’t do enough damage to ACA and the nation as a whole.

In a ritual that is becoming familiar to White House watchers, President Trump, flanked by businessmen, announced on Friday that another American company has told him it plans to go on a hiring and investment spree during his presidency.

And in a detail that has become equally familiar, those hiring and investment plans were recycled from plans first revealed more than 18 months ago.

Nothing but propaganda bullshit. This is the worst administration in US history.

How Nunes isn’t being forced from his chairmanship? Oh wait. IOKIYAR.

Frankly, he should be forced to resign at a minimum, and FBI arresting him for violating multiple federal laws.

Not great news, IMO. Which I believe it will. Accusations of improper/illegal Russian influence on the Trump campaign (and the Trump Administration in general) have, I think, gotten too widespread, and too-well “documented” for them to be able to just be dismissed. And Devin Nunes turning his House Committee into a buffoon circus of deflection hasn’t helped. I think the media’s appetite for dirt on the Admin’s Russian connections has only been whetted by Nunes’ actions: and if Manafort, Page and Stone try to bullshit their way out in front of Congress? “…the real issue here is about substance, not process. Making public policy is hard. The CBO is a tool to help make sure members of Congress understand what they’re doing. They are not using that tool, and consequently, they are flying blind — voting for a series of interlocking changes that will drastically impact tens of millions of people’s lives with no idea what is going to happen.

Most egregiously of all, at this point the tempo is apparently being dictated by Donald Trump’s personal pique at recalcitrant House members.

A president with no interest in the details of public policy is impatient with the idea that House members might care what the content of the bills they pass is, and has decided to make passing this law a test of personal loyalty to him.

That’s a ridiculous way to think about legislation in general. But it’s a particularly egregious way to think about this particular bill, since candidate Trump would have thoroughly denounced it. He promised — in the primary, in the general election, and even during the transition — to put forward a plan that covers everyone, lowers deductibles, and protects Medicaid. He then hashed out a bill that doesn’t do any of those things, and is now professing to be not just eager to pass a bill that defies all of his campaign commitments but furious at people who are skeptical of the merits.”digbysblog.blogspot.com

The real economic angst that these $500K Wall Street types have is that they are acutely aware that $500K per year is not enough for membership in the ruling class. They have to work for a living, but are in frequent contact with the real masters of the universe who are above all that.

However, they are completely clueless about what life is like for the poor or for those who work their asses off and still have to make hard economic choices, and this is vividly demonstrated every time a news article of this kind comes out.

I maxed out my 401k for first time this year (annually bump it a point come annual review time), but my expenses elsewhere are low. No kids, no debt other than mortgage payments on modest NYC metro area home.

I also know I’m an exception, rather than a rule on financial well being (I have an emergency fund, 401k, reserve savings, etc.) And I know how fragile my finances are that I make sure that I keep saving, just in case work/health goes south, etc.
