While I’m tempted to use Time Machine to make a new system drive for my old iMac, from the current El Capitan boot disk… I’m thinking I should try a new OS install to begin with followed by Migration Assistant.

If that approach fails I can always reformat and then try again with the Time Machine restore method.

Let us know how it works out. I’m not a big Mac person, so I’d be interested to know for personal curiosity.

New install and Migration Assistant, definitely. The Time Machine way will probably work, but it’s a much better idea to start from scratch with a clean installation.

re: #3 Charles Johnson

Thanks.

The new drive is a bit bigger, too, so I’ll have room for about a 200GB third partition. I’m tempted in setting it aside for a Windoze system.

I guess I’ve put the cart before the horse… first thing I have to do is figure out whether to use the LaCie software to re-partition this drive, or use Disk Utility. Apparently the latter means I need to erase the current single partition…

The older Disk Utility versions were simpler to understand, I think.

Speaking of eating out… (I just knew there would be an OT segue, thanks!)…

Had such a fun day. A friend and I decided to go road trip with our dogs, aka The Boys, to see the bluebonnets and other wildflowers around Brenham, TX. Brenham is famous for them along with being the listeria Blue Bell ice cream capital. The wildflowers did not disappoint - stunning fields of color in the most beautiful gently rolling hill settings.

Did some advance poking about and targeted a doggie-friendly Tapas restaurant downtown Brenham (which consists of one square block around the courthouse - an entirely charming square block). We haven’t done that before with The Boys so I figured leaving town to try it first was a really good plan. Koky (friend’s dog) did great, surprising the both of us since Koky is… energetic. My boy, not so much since he wanted to bark at everyone. Once I got him planted on the chair next to me and food was involved though, he did great. I think we might even be welcome to go back to that restaurant again. :D Very pleased because the food was excellent and I would definitely do a repeat of the lovely day.

After lunch we went to a nice dog park to let The Boys make some new friends there before heading home on a different route to see more wildflowers. Weather was perfection!

Texas leadership may suck really bad but the state is one of the most beautiful anywhere in the world. Today was just another example of why it has been my home for over 40 years and I am loathe to leave it.

Reposting from a dead thread:

Interesting day today. I have a co-worker who’s an immigrant from Ethiopia. Went over to his house a few weeks ago to deal with some home issues he’s been struggling with. Ended up doing a fair amount of work while teaching him some basics about home repair. Replaced a garbage disposal that was corroded and leaking badly, fixed the kitchen faucet, re-glued some countertop laminate that was peeling, replaced a faulty sump pump and battery backup sump pump because his basement had recently flooded after both pumps failed, re-lit the pilot on his water heater that went out when the basement flooded and put in a new doorbell chime, transformer and the outside bell button as well as a few other miscellaneous repairs.

I do this type of stuff for folks all the time and am constantly annoyed and angry when I see what some “professionals” charge for poor quality, often improperly done work. Take the sump pumps for example. Neither the standard pump or the battery backup pump had check valves; a obvious code violation. What got me over to the house in the first place was being told that the idiots who did the original installation wanted $1400 to replace the equipment they installed improperly in the first place. So they not only did shoddy work but vastly overcharged for doing it. Grrrr….

I’m frankly astounded at some of the things I find. Went over to help my daughter-in-law’s dad with his house, which had no electricity in half the house. Her mom was trying to get home from a major illness and being in rehab, but the rehab folks refused to let her go home until the power issue was resolved (no power in the bedrooms or back bathrooms). Understandable, because she could be hurt trying to negotiate her way in the dark. I discovered the problem: the house had aluminum wiring and the idiots who did the wiring attached the wire to terminals clearly marked “CU ONLY”. Removed an outlet that was actually sparking and smoking and if it hadn’t been replaced would have started a fire. Quick trip to the store for aluminum rated outlets and $40 later, the house was safe and functional. How any real electrician could do this or worse, how any inspector would ignore it is perplexing.

Anyway, went over today and was treated to an authentic Ethiopian meal. Spicy and quite good. And then the traditional coffee, which involved actually cooking the coffee beans in a pan prior to brewing a thick, espresso like brew. Yum. They brought out the pan with the coffee beans during the heating, explaining that part of the ritual is to enjoy the fragrance during that part of the preparation.

We did end up discussing the current political situation a bit over coffee. No surprise that they have apprehension about the situation and some fear. I think it meant a lot to them to be treated with respect and welcome and care. And it let them know that not all old cranky white guys are bigots.

Although I’m an extreme introvert, it was a lovely afternoon with a beautiful family. Both the boys (9 and 11) gave me big hugs as I was leaving, as did the wife. Makes me incredibly sad that so many people would see them as enemies and want them gone

That is a wonderful story. Good on you for doing that. If I were more confident in my home repair skills, I might do something like that. My primary amateur forte is in mechanics, but I know enough to be dangerous with home maintenance.

re: #26 thedopefishlives

I complain, but we’re doing pretty good in west KY.

But Ethiopian has not made it here. Need to make a trip to Louisville. I think there’s even a store where you can by ingredients for home cooking.

The other thing is I want an Ethiopian/Somali cookbook that has decent pictures and explanations. I’ve looked through what’s available, and they’re a bit unclear.

Sadly, it’s not being updated, but this site made me interested in Somali food, while this one got me interested in Ethiopian.

Funny thing is, you can see the relationship with food from, say, Oman (and maybe Yemen? I know like two whole Yemen recipes) and how the two are tied by trade.

I think the Twin Cities would be a lot less diverse, culinarily speaking, if it weren’t for the large Hmong and Somali refugee population. Aside from the unique background those two groups bring, it would be mostly the Indian/Chinese/European angles you see everywhere else.

Found this scratching around for info on that image you posted Deb. Good photographer.

Atlas Obscura - The Photographer Who Captured Black Voters for Decades in Pittsburgh

roughout the course of his prolific 40-year career, photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris amassed an extraordinary archive consisting of nearly 80,000 negatives. Starting in the 1930s, Harris documented Pittsburgh’s African American community for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the country’s leading African-American newspapers. He captured over 3,000 portraits between 1957 and 1977 for one regular column alone; in the 1960s, almost ten of his images ran per issue of the Pittsburgh Courier.

Today, this vast and significant collection, much of which has been digitized online, resides with the Carnegie Museum of Art. Over the years, the Museum invited various curators to stage exhibitions of his work. The most recent focused on performance, and now, with an election looming, Teenie Harris Photographs: Elections highlights Harris’ work chronicling Pittsburgh elections.

Known as “One Shot” due to his ability to capture his subjects quickly, Harris’ photographs encompass the political process over several decades, including the organization around the 1965 Voting Rights Act. In one photograph, K. Leroy Irvis is captured in a voting booth in 1962. In another, taken ten years later, Shirley Chisholm receives a bouquet from Delta Sigma Theta sorority members.

Trump is just an exaggerated version of the existing “can’t fail, can only be failed” culture. It will be Democratic Party stabs-in-the-back every time he fucks up. What makes Trump slightly different than other wingnuts is that he’s willing to scapegoat anybody (and eventually will) and his version of “can’t fail” is total narcissism with not even minimally coherent goals.

Malevolent incompetence gets vastly more dangerous when it sits at the top of the chain of command. When it comes to killing civilians, many of the lower-echelon officers are actually quite competent. It’s horrible. In fact, sickening.

At this point, I dont care which of the many paths to impeachment or resignation is/are taken, but this is on the center-right. The rest of us have to keep forcing them to look in the goddam mirror and care. I say again, he’s gone by the end of the year as senior Republicans try to save their seats in 2018. Flynn or Stone or Manafort or somebody will do a deal, and the floodgates will open. But don’t hold your breath, these things take ludicrous amounts of time.

We are in a very fucked up cultural place where this transparent collusion of a politician with the press to advance his agenda isn’t immediately sounding a klaxon.

But we’ve been edging towards this for awhile: FOX has coordinated with the GOP before, and it’s become accepted—nudge, nudge, wink, wink—by the audience that the network is “”on side” (which makes what they say a priori true).

Maybe. You know them better than I do, so I can’t say. However:

There are no “honest mistakes” in handling firearms. Never. No different than “accidental discharges” when a child fires a gun. Substitute “magazine” for “gun” in that story and see if it counts as a responsible firearm owner. You account for every thing you do with a firearm, every time you do it.

Break out a box of shotgun shells and handle them, you count every one (expended or not) before you lock them up again. Load magazines, you account for every magazine.

We now interrupt this broadcast for an unscheduled off-topic message: it is March 25, and the roads on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park are bone dry, with an alarming small amount of snow to be seen. Trail Ridge Road is still closed, at least, but the signs at Bear Lake have been changed from
“The ice is beginning to melt and thin: if you try to walk on it, you may fall in”
to
“…you WILL fall in.”

This is not a good thing. Not that the scenery wasn’t lovely, but it’s supposed to be a lot whiter at this time of the year.

Oh, and I turned 61 today. This is not a good thing either.
The spousal unit who turned 62 in February was able to buy his lifetime parklands pass for $10. I’ve heard they are expecting to raise the rate to $80 later this year, but the pass gets you into every recreational facility run by six or seven Federal agencies, including national parks, national monuments, BLM site, et alia. It’s still a bargain.

We now return you to politics, music, pizza, puns and whatever other shenanigans are in progress, while I go back and try to catch up on the last two threads.

I took issue with your comment because you immediately smeared a good man and attentive father because *oh no a career officer with the U.S. Marine Corps left a loaded magazine in his truck and his kid found it, Responsible Gun Owner™.* That made me mad. Like you said, you don’t even know these folks, so who are you to judge?

That said, I’ve deleted my #136.

You know, I’m willing to give Paul Ryan most of the blame for what was in the AHCA. He wrote it with insurance companies, lobbyists and think tanks, and I’m sure Pence was chill with it, but it just reeked of Ryan’s Randian worldview.

And I don’t think that Trump had a freaking clue about what was in the bill. He’s a moron who went along because he wanted to see anything pass to get that feather in his cap. He doesn’t believe in anything so why should he even care what was in it?

Trump is a fucking snake for going after Ryan this way, but it doesn’t mean that Ryan doesn’t richly deserve to get rolled because of the AHCA.

I don’t think calling for Ryan to step down is going to make him like Trump.

I’m going to have to give the Founding Fathers a bit more credit. I’ve kind of wavered toward wanting more of a parliamentary type system, where the president and congress are tied together, but having them independent has further reduced Trump’s ability to do damage. Had he and Bannon been smart, they would have done tax cuts first, but having this fight over health care, and having Trump and Bannon think they could completely threaten House Republicans is hurting them.

Now, if we could only get rid of the Electoral College.

It worked better than he could have hoped. 248
gocart mozart  Mar 25, 2017 • 9:06:47pm

Here’s where it gets tricky, but where this claim may help explain the confusing events of this past week. Six days ago, House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes let slip in an interview that one person currently in Donald Trump’s White House is under surveillance (link). Three days later someone fed Nunes some intel about surveillance of the Trump transition team which spooked him to the point that he ran to the White House and told Donald Trump about it. And now the end result of the Nunes controversy is tonight’s abrupt resignation of Boris Epshteyn.

If you start with the asserted but unproven premise that Boris Epshteyn helped set up the “pee pee tape” incident which led to Russia having blackmail over Donald Trump, then you have to logically assume that Epshteyn has been some kind of Kremlin spy against Trump the entire time. If so, and if the U.S. intelligence committee had evidence to that effect, it would have led to a judge granting a FISA surveillance warrant against Epshteyn. When Nunes said a week ago that someone in the Trump White House is currently under surveillance, he would have been referring to Epshteyn. And if Nunes was subsequently fed intel revealing that Epshteyn was under surveillance because he was Kremlin operative spying on Trump the entire time, it would explain why Nunes flipped out and went running to Trump at his own career peril.

I have googled my name off and on. The only name that has ever come close to mine is Lonnie Mack. I get on facebook, and I get a friend request from someone with the same first and last name as mine. He’s had his account for about 6 years, so I know it’s not fake, but wow, it’s not like my name is John Smith.

I’m trying to decide whether or not to friend him. He grew up in a part of Arkansas known for having a post office, lives in Louisiana, and has five kids. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t like the politics I’ve posted (and yes, I know what some people think of politics on facebook, but I’m not about to let the idiocies of Texas slip by the people paying attention to me).

Jonathan Chait:
“…Conservatives disagree philosophically with the very concept of insurance as most Americans experience it. Insurance means spreading risk, which is a form of redistribution. Republicans postured against Obamacare from the left, denouncing its high deductibles and premiums, and promising a better, cheaper plan that would cover everybody. Their plan, inevitably, did the opposite. All politicians overpromise, of course. But the Republicans did more than overpromise. They delivered a policy directionally opposed to their promises.

It is not possible to write a bill that meets public standards for acceptable health-insurance coverage within the parameters of conservative ideology.”

So I moved my laptop to the bedroom to follow the thread a bit more before nighties. Buddy the dog sits and stares at me. “Nighties, precious” I say, giving him a scritch. Stare. “Why you stare at me?” I query, knowing he’s just been out for piddles, his water and kibble bowls are full, it’s late and he had a big, fun day. Stare. “What?” I ask again. No blink, just stare. Accusingly. I’m like WTF? Stare. Getting more intense as though I’ve committed some terrible betrayal of trust.

Oh. I took his bed pillow out to the car for our road trip today and forgot to bring it back in. Outside to the car I run in only a big t-shirt, praying no one is about on this Saturday night to call the cops to come arrest me for indecent exposure. Bent over to fetch the pillow from the back seat I hear “Hey, [allegro]!” Oh fuck me, I think, standing up quickly clutching the pillow in front of me in a futile attempt to cover my… lack of cover to see my next door neighbor just grinning and looking like he’s ready to sit down for a nice long chat. He’s gay so I know he has no other motives (and at my age 64 as of last week, even if he wasn’t gay I have no illusions of lustful young men) but damn. I’m backing towards my door, pillow clutched, and he’s just chatting away. I’m like, I love ya honey, but really? Now?!

Damn dog better enjoy that pillow tonight.

I was a sailor, not a soldier, but that’s okay.

Hmm. you wrote you wanted to drop this, I agreed, and I left. I come back later and find it’s still going.

As for firearms in the Navy, at least while I was in it you had to check out weapons and ammunition for duty or training. A person was expected to return everything, so keeping track of it at the time was important.

So let’s try again, I agree again to drop the issue. I’ll be taking a few days off from here and check in later - I have a long week ahead anyway (today is Epilepsy Awareness day so I have other things to do for that, state water operator school over most of the week, and the forty-ninth anniversary of my father’s death on Saturday).

Flat earth

Flat earth is a hoax theory in the broader so-called truth movement and a few in nationalist movements (eg. Sinead McCarthy, Tila Tequila). The thought is that Jews are so smart and clever they hid the fact that the earth is flat from the world. The United Nations flag shows the earth how modern flat earthers claim: a circle with the north pole at the center and antarctica around the edges.

Flat earthers claim things such as that all flights in the southern hemisphere are routed up to the northern hemisphere and then back down. They also claim that people are not allowed to fly straight across Antarctica.

A spherecuck is an insult for people who believe the earth is round.

A lot of the founders of the early Christian Church, like Sts Paul and Augustine, obviously had serious sexual hangups (Paul was likely a repressed, self-loathing homosexual and St. Augustine castrated himself out of disgust for his sexual attraction to his own sister), which became part and parcel of church doctrine.

Replacing a sitting president inevitably damages the democratic process. Replacing him with theocratic Pence could be a longer-term nightmare.

And then we’re still left with the process and the electorate that made Trump possible.

Say what?

Then why does the Constitution make provisions for doing exactly that? Like it or not, Pence was also elected, and by law he’s the replacement if Trump should go. Pence at least would have some idea of how stuff works.

Our democratic process was damaged during the campaign and the election. We can’t go back and fix that damage, but we can sure fix one result of the damage. Trump is an embarrassment, and he will damage our standing in the world for decades if he is not removed from office soon.

The Constitution is not particularly democratic. Yes, about a third of the potential damage was already done before Inauguration Day. I think Trump’s potential damage will be more outrageous and, perversely, more correctable than Pence’s.

This last part scares me more than the present situation. There are enough idiots in the USA to vote for him a second time, and if the next election is as screwed up as this one was, Trump might even serve another four years.

OTOH, he will be 74 in 2020. Age or apoplexy might get to him first.

If Trump the Populist can’t get things through Congress, neither will Pence the Theocrat. Of course Pence won’t threaten to retaliate against Republicans that vote against him, but he also won’t threaten to leave NATO.

From what I’ve read of Indiana, Pence would be a politically inept version of Bush. And his family will live at the White House.

My only fear of Trump leaving early is that too many of those who voted for him won’t have learned any lesson.

It didn’t work out for Ford, and he was way more likable. You can’t seriously mean that Democrats should vote innocent in an impeachment trial if Trump committed serious crimes, surely.
The GOP would be so ripped apart by a Trump impeachment, the Democrats would win a huge wave election in 2020. The GOP is also so dysfunctional that, as it demonstrated, it can’t get its evil legislation passed. That is what comes of basing your election strategy on lies and fantasies.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance. It hasn’t been a good 48 hours for Trumpland. Getting creamed on Trump’s signature promise to repeal and replace Obamacare with something better. Ryan’s better way turning out to be tuck tail and running because his plan was so much malware that not even the GOP could buy it.

These so called negotiating masters and policy wonks couldn’t figure out how to make health care work.

To an outsider, this was obvious. Health care is complex. Too complex for someone like Trump who’s never had to worry about health coverage and leaves it to others to figure out how to screw his employees and minimize his costs of providing said care. To him, the most important thing was tax cuts.

For Ryan, it was the same. The tax cuts and gutting Medicare/Medicaid was far more important than improving coverage or care. That’s why the GOP’s plan amendments included gutting essential health benefits to get the extremists on board - and even then they balked.

These people don’t get that people actually want health coverage.

But now, Trump will move on to his next promise. It may be tax reform. It may be infrastructure.

And he will find neither is nearly as easy or as simple as he touted them to be.

In fact, he’ll fall into the same traps. He doesn’t do the hard work of politics. It means working both sides of the aisle. It means meeting with people and figuring out what they need and making it happen. It means…. *gasp* negotiations.

Sadly, it looks like Trump didn’t read his own damned books.

Which makes perfect sense since he didn’t write his own books.

All of his success outside the core “competency” of real estate is a mirage. It’s dumb fucking luck. Because he’s failed at everything else - casinos, football, airlines, liquor, steaks, etc. He’s great at promoting himself and conning people into thinking he’s successful even though he parlayed a real estate inheritance into a “luxury” brand.

So, I’m up to episode 7 of Iron Fist, and I honestly cannot say it’s keeping me sitting on the edge of my seat. Some bits are sorta, kinda exciting, but compared to the other Netflix MCU series, they’re pretty lame.

Jessica Henwick should be the Iron Fist, and not be Colleen Wing. Her acting is a lot more convincing than Finn Jones’. Jones is good-looking and has some acting chops, but he’d be better as a supporting character.

Also, the comic book trope of the sole heir trying to regain control of his dead father’s corrupted company is just meh. Gotham and Arrow got there first, at least on the TeeVee, and did it better, IMO.

Doing a business deal is rather different than working a political deal. You can always walk away from a business deal and go find a different partner more compatible with your interests and style.

Or declare bankruptcy and start all over again.

In politics, you have to work with the people who have been elected and are not going to go away for some time. And it is all a a matter of public record. You can make a lot of back-room deals, but at some point it all has to come out for public and press scrutiny.

Scrutiny hands.

How can the ACA be improved?
One shortcoming, according to John S. Toussaint HBR, is that too many people are opting out of coverage and chosing the small penalty. In the article he lists some possible improvements.

What Needs to Change
The exchanges. The most attacked provision of the ACA is the insurance exchanges. The cost of insurance is driven by the actuarial risk of the insured. The fundamental flaw of the ACA insurance exchanges was that people could easily opt in and out.

For example, healthy young people are allowed to opt out of the requirement to pay for insurance by paying a penalty that was extremely low compared to the actual cost of purchasing health insurance — even with government subsidies and the relatively low original premium rates. At this point, there are millions of healthy young people, and others, who prefer to take their chances without insurance. They then jump into the exchange at the long open-enrollment periods if they get sick. This skews the overall risk pool and is leading to some of the exorbitant premium increases this year.

We know the ACA won’t get improved anytime soon. Fortunately I think the CBO is correct that the insurance market is stable, thanks to the subsidies that 80% of exchange purchasers get. We’ll have to wait until Democrats regain power to improve the ACA, but even as it is its much better than the pre-Obamacare era, when people in need of medical care couldn’t get insurance at all.

Ming5000  Mar 26, 2017 • 7:37:09am

re: #406 Big Beautiful Door

The only other improvement mentioned:

Medicaid expansion. To put the exchanges in perspective, over 4 million of the newly insured people enrolled through the exchanges, but 6.5 million of those with coverage were due to Medicaid expansion. There are 20 states that have opted to not accept federal funding to expand Medicaid. It is estimated that 3 million more people could be covered if these states would expand Medicaid. The arguments about whether to expand rage on.

Yeah, with Clinton they were looking for something that wasn’t there. If there is no there there then you search forever and never find it. Now understand there are thousands of St. John the Baptist Parishes around the nation. Towns with different names, different states. Freeing up the machines to eat us all.

And then throw in the GOP/TRUMP suicide AHCA bill. MAGA.
A scary read. One I’ve read far too often.

There’s still quite a few left in Ostrava. About 20 or 30 by my count. Ostrava is a city with a population of about 300,000 - they can be found all over. There’s one about a five minute walk from where I live.

That being said, yeah, pretty much everyone here has a mobile phone. It’s almost universal.

[Trump] seriously tried to invoice Germany for $374 billion because he doesn’t understand how NATO funding works.

My payroll deduction for Kaiser Permanente has gone DOWN.
My copays for services has gone DOWN
My lab tests now cost ZERO
My copays for prescriptions has gone DOWN
My copays for glucose meters is now ZERO
My copays for test strips and lances has gone DOWN
My copays for Humira IV’s has gone DOWN
Kaiser EXPANDED additional services for me which include education classes, weight control, sleep monitoring, and they even offer a meal service if I’m homebound.

And I have all of these changes thanks to the ACA!

Repeal ACA and you’re not only throwing 24 million people off of health insurance, you’re also reducing the benefit packages that millions of people receive through their employers!

Also—since the ACA mandated that Members of Congress had to buy their health insurance from the exchanges, that would also take their health coverage away as well!

I have seen so many people who credit ACA with saving their lives too. And there are millions of Americans like myself with pre-existing conditions that can’t be denied coverage anymore because of it. I’ve been volunteering for a former Democratic Congressman who is presently running for governor of Virginia from a heavily Republican district who voted for ACA knowing it would cost him his seat. I’m wondering if he might just be out there on the golf course by himself or with a few close friends (family) that he trusts.

I’m wondering if the golf is escapism for him. And he may just be escaping himself.

Maybe he is up against the wall so to say with realization he got himself in deep with this whole President thing. And now he realizes he isn’t cut out for it, doesn’t know what the hell he is doing, is fucking shit up and is being seen more and more as a clown…a failed man.

So the minute he can get out on the “campaign trail” for accolades, hit the golf course to pound the ball around, hang out at Trump clubs with his family he’s not in the oval office, which may now be his hell hole.

It may all be to escape the reality that he fucked up. But, he has an ego that will never admit it.

Who knows, if it gets bad enough for him, he may actually seek a way out that doesn’t ding his name but gets him out of office.

I do know some of the pepole at my old haunt voted for him; I didn’t spend all that much time doing any research as to what he did or did not do. I do know what he did on gun rights with his “shall issue” law when he had issues getting a permit for his firearm when he was mayor and it sounded pretty common sense to me; other than that everything else is a mystery. I do recall him saying he was going to turn over his last term in office to the Vice-Govenor; I guess he got tired/fed-up of all the attacks and the usual games of politics-I just don’t know.

re: #453 BeachDem

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the head of the House Freedom Caucus, said Republicans need Schumer to be a “willing partner” on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

Uh huh—yeah—that’s gonna happen, Marky Mark—when pigs fly. What a maroon.

Meadows—against gay marriage, against any form of gun restrictions, voted against Sandy relief, championed the shutdown, for a flat tax—yeah—the Dems should certainly be his “willing partner.”

What is it with these House GOPers and Chuck Schumer? Shouldn’t he first and foremost be looking across the aisle in his own Chamber for legislative “partners”? Or is that unacceptable, necessitating having to work with the She-Devil Of San Francisco and her infernal minions?*

And in any case: “voted against Sandy relief”? As we say here on the nether bank of the Hudson: “Fuggedaboudit!”. Sen. Schumer may have some flaws: a short memory isn’t one of them.

*ADD: I think that may be it: I saw an ad on dKos re the race in GA-06 to replace Tom Price: the GA GOP has apparently poured tons of money into the campaign against Jon Ossoff (the Dem): including ads prominently linking him to Nancy Pelosi and “San Francisco values” or whatever…

Who knows, if it gets bad enough for him, he may actually seek a way out that doesn’t ding his name but gets him out of office.

SRSLY? And just how the hell would he manage that? About the only scenario I can imagine for “Trumpexit” that doesn’t have a toxic dumpster-fire plume of FAIL and DISGRACE attached might be one that’s health-related. A convenient “heart attack”, a “regretful” resignation, teary goodbyes all around in the Oval Office, and The Donald can trundle off to Mar-A-Lago à la Citizen Kane: to spend his sunset years basking in his cultists’ adulation and counting his rubles: leaving Mike Pence and the rest of the GOP to mop up his mess.

It just occurred to me that the Fox Network does not run an Evening News shows like the legacy networks do during the evening hours. Its even more fascinating since we all know that Fox News (delivered by cable/satellite) gets an inordinate amount of coverage for is so-called “Fair and Balanced” and “We Report-You Decide” taglines, yet with more people cutting the code, they have no hard news broadcast on their OTA network.

I’m going to connect my antenna to my TV this week and see if Fox is broadcasting anything on the subchannels-either I’m missing something, or Fox is missing something….

Considering that it’s settled law that states can set their own tougher standards, and many states have voluntarily adopted the CA standards, Pruitt’s looking to go after California for invoking it’s 10th Amendment solution for environmental protection?

Everyone downwind thanks CA for doing so. That includes Oklahoma.

The GOP would love to see a return to the bad old days pre-EPA, where rivers went up in flames, the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and people routinely died from smog and respiratory distress from toxic air.

These fuckers don’t care; there’s profits for corporate masters to be made on the backs and burdens of everyone else.

And many auto manufacturers follow those standards because so many cars are sold in California.

And there is your key as to why they are messing with California fuel standards. They are more controlled by California than by the Feds even thought the Feds seemed to go along with them because it was cleaning the air, saving money, etc.

The Law of Unintended Consequences over Hair Furor’s Wall rears its ugly head in a very spectacular way….

Bloomberg: Trump’s Wall Is 30 Feet of Scary Politics for Builders

Hundreds of companies have been eyeing work on President Donald Trump’s 30-foot border wall with Mexico. Some, however, won’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Mexican cement giant Cemex SAB won’t participate, though it is well positioned to profit with plants on both sides of the border.

Neither will Vinci SA, a big French engineering company, after Chief Executive Officer Xavier Huillard cited the “sensitivities” of employees. Emmanuel Macron, frontrunner for the French presidency, has warned LafargeHolcim Ltd., the world’s largest cement maker, to steer clear. Union leaders at that company have branded the wall undemocratic.

And Democratic lawmakers in California — the state that, for many, stands for everything Trump doesn’t — have gone further, threatening to cut ties with companies that work on the project.

“If they participate in something so harmful to California’s economy and environment as a wall, then we don’t want to do business with them,” said state Senator Ricardo Lara, who introduced legislation that would blackball them from government contracts.

There is little doubt that if Congress finds as much as $25 billion to construct the wall, someone will happily take it. But increasingly, major corporations are weighing potential profit against political costs.

“Oh and I turned 61 today. This is not a good thing either.”
