Obviously Worked Up by Right Wing Media, Trump Falsely Accuses Susan Rice of Committing a Crime

Disgusting
Politics • Views: 41,960

In today’s disgusting episode of Our Disgraceful So-Called President, Donald Trump falsely accuses former national security adviser Susan Rice of committing a crime. With absolutely no evidence.

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Wednesday that he thought that the former national security adviser Susan E. Rice may have committed a crime by seeking the identities of Trump associates who were swept up in the surveillance of foreign officials by American spy agencies and that other Obama administration officials may also have been involved.

The president provided no evidence to back his claim. Current and former intelligence officials from both Republican and Democratic administrations have said that nothing they have seen led them to believe that Ms. Rice’s actions were unusual or unlawful. When Americans are swept up in surveillance of foreign officials by intelligence agencies, their identities are supposed to be obscured, but they can be revealed for national security reasons, and intelligence officials say it is a regular occurrence.

“I think it’s going to be the biggest story,” Mr. Trump said in an interview in the Oval Office. “It’s such an important story for our country and the world. It is one of the big stories of our time.”

He declined to say if he had personally reviewed new intelligence to bolster his claim but pledged to explain himself “at the right time.”

When asked if Ms. Rice, who has denied leaking the names of Trump associates under surveillance by United States intelligence agencies, had committed a crime, the president said, “Do I think? Yes, I think.”

This guy is completely out of control, and this is a libelous comment. The reality is that Susan Rice was simply doing her job in a completely legal, by the books fashion.

The president of the United States is acting like a particularly unhinged right wing blogger, and that’s no coincidence — because this is where he seems to be getting all the inflammatory talking points he constantly spews to the world. The entire right wing media universe has been shrieking in unison that Susan Rice is a criminal.

And that’s not the end of the outrages from today’s interview with this malevolent sideshow barker. He also defended Fox News sexual harasser Bill O’Reilly, because he obviously recognizes a fellow traveler.

The president then went on to defend Mr. O’Reilly, who has hosted him frequently over the years.

“I think he’s a person I know well — he is a good person,” said Mr. Trump, who during the interview was surrounded at his desk by a half-dozen of his highest-ranking aides, including the economic adviser Gary Cohn and the chief of staff, Reince Priebus, along with Vice President Mike Pence.

“I think he shouldn’t have settled; personally I think he shouldn’t have settled,” said Mr. Trump. “Because you should have taken it all the way. I don’t think Bill did anything wrong.”

Yes, it is now a matter of RWNJ faith: she was spying on his campaign and then leaked the information to disparage Trump.

Which makes absolutely no sense unless one actually believes that she knew before she requested the “unmasking” who the anonymous persons were and simply wanted their names “leaked.”

And to outlaw child marriage too. Too many nutball conservative Muslims STILL believe it it is divine right to marry underage girls, and that is just disgusting. We all want to live forever, right? Wrong. Think about watching your family die as you selfishly carry on, your children aging and passing, your grandchildren, and so on. Think of all the friends you’ll make, and eventually lose. You don’t want that. No!

You know the earth is eventually going to be swallowed by the sun, right? And one day, you would be present for this greatest of all apocalypses. As fascinating as this would be, scientifically speaking, this excitement would fade as the pain of thousand-degree flames engulfed your tender body, and your agèd mind would be so alone in this interminable torture. Does this sound like something you want? We didn’t think so. Immortality is stupid. Think before you wish.

Anymouse I know you love Wonkette. Here they are highlighting the same issue you have repeatedly brought up here, how the DNC won’t support Democratic candidates in red states:

[Embedded content]

For clarity VB, it is the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and not the DNC directly.

But it is confusing. I never knew there was a DCCC. I wonder if they work under the view of the DNC or are they independent?

Maybe this is another problem the Democrats have. Would it be best to have a bigger DNC and they are looked to for money, advice and help by all Democratic candidates. Maybe it would all be a more cohesive message if everything was top down as far as message.

I am so pissed off.

There was a lot in the article to raise my blood pressure, but the last part just makes me sad:

“I will never come back in Douglas. I hope I never have to,” Pearson’s youngest daughter, Antoineé Pearson, chimed in.

Pearson, who’d been leaning back into her favorite recliner between the girls, sat up in the chair a bit.

“It’s sad that you feel that way,” Pearson responded. “I came back home from college and I wanted to help build this city up and better this community.

“You grow up here all your life, you know the people’s shortcomings, and you want to help them to get to where they need to. That was my desire.”

As Pearson had anxiously waited for her trial over the last year, she had watched in November as black voters failed to build on previous get-out-the-vote efforts: The black turnout in the county was at its lowest level since 2004.

Pearson had grown upset at her daughters’ obvious indifference, and her voice rose. “I have a passion for people,” she said, throwing her hands up.

She started crying again, and the room fell silent.

Evgeny Buryakov, aka Zhenya, 42, formerly of the New York area, was repatriated on board commercial flights, escorted by Cleveland-based ERO deportation officers and turned over to Russian authorities.

In March 2016, Buryako pleaded guilty to conspiring to work covertly as a Russian agent in the United States without notifying the Attorney General, paving the way for his deportation. As part of his plea agreement, he relinquished all claims to status in the United States, and agreed to enter ICE custody at the conclusion of his federal prison term. Buryako was turned over to ICE March 31, after his release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Elkton, Indiana.

According to evidence presented in federal court proceedings, Buryakov worked in the United States for almost four years as an agent of Russia’s foreign intelligence agency, known as the SVR. Buryakov operated under non-official cover, meaning he entered and remained in the United States as a private citizen, posing as an employee in the New York office of a Russian bank, Vnesheconombank (VEB). SVR agents operating under such non-official cover (NOCs) are typically subject to less scrutiny by the host government and, in many cases, are never identified as intelligence agents by the host government.

Trump wanted Flynn for the NSC.

Trump had full confidence in Flynn.
So Trump put Bannon on NSC to watch Flynn?

This reeks of retconning entire situation to separate Trump and Flynn; in effect claiming that they knew Flynn was rogue (or a Russian agent). In other words, they’re trying to use the National Enquirer story to justify all this.

One problem (of many). Bannon, who was supposedly watching over Flynn, supposedly never attended these meetings. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a minder if they’re not there.

If Trump messes with their plans, maybe Bannon blows Trump up with all kinds of little tidbits of damaging info and Sessions being in the AG seat can bring the indictments to get the GOP to shove Trump out the door.

After Trump’s morning “reading” and Twitter storm, what happens? Coffee with Bannon and Jared? There is no Melania around. Policy meetings? How about HR meetings to try and fill vacancies?

In the process of seeking an answer I found this, from June 2009:

NBCNews Over the last 12 hours or so, Obama has done what modern presidents do. He has led meetings with some of the most knowledgeable people in the world to figure out how to address issues that could affect every living person: from the impending bankruptcy of General Motors to North Korea’s launch of another missile to the balance of power on the Supreme Court.

Occam’s Razor also suggests that the Trump admin doesn’t know what they’re doing, and are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Trump’s answer to everything is to pick Kushner to do something.

My sense is that Flynn has the goods on everyone in the Trump cabal, and they’re trying to gain separation from him. This is the only way. Bannon’s got his own brand of corruption/conflicts of interest he’s bringing to the table separate from Russia-Trump.

The other possibility is that McMaster wanted to get rid of Cohen-Watnick (of ‘unmasking’/tattling to Nunes fame), and Bannon stopped him, but now it’s blowing up in their faces and McMaster’s using this to clean house.

China and weapons of mass destruction.

Bottom line:
The Chinese have about 75 ICBMs, some with MIRVs, and 3 operational SSBNs with 48 missiles. My best guess is that they could get 100-120 nuclear warheads to the United States, assuming that 1 SSBN could get its missiles off and that there has been no change in MIRV strength. This is also assuming they use their whole long range arsenal, since their much greater number of short and medium range could still serve as a deterrent to Russia and India. All US bases between the eastern Pacific and the Persian Gulf would also be vulnerable to these shorter range weapons.

Whoa , Nikki Haley at UN today, hammering Russia:

Fortune They made an unconscionable choice. They chose to close their eyes to the barbarity. They defied the conscience of the world. Russia cannot escape responsibility for this. In fact, if Russia had been fulfilling its responsibility, there would not be any chemical weapons left for the Syrian regime to use…The truth is that Assad, Russia, and Iran, have no interest in peace.

Oops, then I read that she said this first. This sounds ominous:

“The gas that fell out of the sky yesterday was more deadly, leading men, women, the elderly, and children gasping for their very last breath. As first responders, doctors and nurses rushed to help the victims, a second slew of bombs rained down. They died in the same slow, horrendous manner as the civilians they were trying to save,” she said, calling for her colleagues on the UN Security Council to condemn the attack, and leaving open the possibility that the U.S. “may” take unilateral action.

Making republicans everywhere jump for joy since this is how we’re not totally fucked yet.

Consequently, the U.S. has continued to meet its obligations to creditors while keeping the doors open to the business of government.

In essence, there are three funds the Treasury Department can work with to keep the U.S. from defaulting on its debts: the savings plan for federal employees, often called the G Fund; the Exchange Stabilization Fund that the government uses for its currency operations, and the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund, or the main pension fund for federal workers.

Here’s an excerpt from Deutsche-Welle’s piece about the Siege of Sarajevo which stood out for me:

A group quickly formed to search for the snipers in the hotel and shoot them. Igor, a Serb, was among them. Later, he was employed as an anti-sniper sniper to defend Sarajevo’s Bosniaks and Croats in the besieged city against troops under the command of Serbian nationalist extremist Ratko Mladic. Because he met snipers from the other side, he had to change his name after the war and go into hiding - just like hundreds of other Serbs from Sarajevo who today are considered to be traitors by most Serbs from Serbia and the Serbian part of Bosnia. Deputy Commander of the Bosnian Army, General Jovan Divjak, is an ethnic Serb who originally hails from Belgrade, but he continues to live in Sarajevo today, where he is seen as a hero. At the same time, he has to continually be on the alert for acts of revenge by Serbian nationalists.

The Bosnian Army didn’t just fight to regain control of Sarajevo, it also fought the nationalist extremism of the other side. It defended the ideals of multinationalism, religious diversity and tolerance. As Divjak once said, it defended the “values of Europe against barbarism.” The nationalists wanted to destroy such a society, gain as much territory as they could, and then drive other ethnic groups out. The politics and crimes of “ethnic cleansing” had been planned out long in advance - and not just by Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. They were also planned by Croatian President Franjo Tudjman.

This should remind people who harbor anti-Serb prejudice (but never went through the pure Hell that Bosnian Muslims did) that there were indeed quite a few Serbs who did the right thing and risked their own lives to defend their non-Serb neighbors. The more I read about Serb bravery in the face of nationalist extremism by their brethren, the more I have the moral justification to express anger whenever anyone starts making blanket statements about Serbs being genocidal as an inherent trait.

Hannity’s busy claiming that he’s gonna sue someone if it turns out he was caught up in the unmasking of people in the Trump-Russia mess.

This is the part where I laugh.

1) Hannity spent years defending the wiretapping and eavesdropping as essential to national security.
2) Hannity getting unmasked in those communications would be legal.
2a) Getting caught up in conversations with Russians under surveillance Sean? That’d be an interesting conversation to have. Why? What was the conversation? Or were you listening in with your buddies in Trump Tower (perhaps, I should be more clear, given that there’s a lot of folks under investigation in the building).
2b) Unmasking isn’t illegal. Identifying parties to a surveilled conversation also isn’t illegal where it relates to figuring out who was involved and whether the conversation had intelligence value.
3) Hannity knows, or has reason to know, all of this since he spent years defending this.

That he’d attempt to sue is laughable. But his listeners will buy whatever he’s selling.

Oh, but State (Hillary), Defense and the NSA said we should arm a group that was really just a way of getting us involved in another Big Sandy. The appearance of ISIS was used to say, “Obama was wrong in not sending troops in to Regime Change Syria.” Though the steady erosion of their territories, primarily by Muslim opposition from local governments, is an argument against the “Not another invasion” strategy. We go into Syria, and there would be more religious militias, and more authoritarian forces loose.

The Middle East is like the British problems with Bosnia-Herzogovina. What was the quote? “There are two people now alive who understood the problem, and one of them is dead, and one of them was me, and I can’t remember it.”

I am old enough to remember when John Brennan was too conservative to get through Senate confirmation because Democrats didn’t like him.

Good times, good times.

Charles are you having some database connection issues?

I tried to access a comment I made earlier today and when I click on my avie I get the darkened page and the loading circular arrow spins and spins and the window never opens.

Just thought I’d mention it. No biggie but I know you like all systems go.

I can’t remember when and where, but your “what were they thinking” line is close to some comments I have heard since the election. I guess they did it for a lark to see what a real outsider could bring instead of that boring old Clinton agenda.

When that happens, always try reloading the page first. Sometimes there’s a network issue that prevents some bit of necessary code from loading. Reloading the page should fix it.

But so what? He won, didn’t he? Trump and his supporters know that he cheated to win so they just can’t be happy that he’s President. Plus, they can feel the heat from all of the Russia investigations. They’re miserable.

Yeah. Funny about that. It’s almost as if they might melt away if exposed to scrutiny.

I gazed into the abyss.

The responses to that tweet from Hannity’s fans are from an alternate universe. These people are nuts, and they hoard guns and ammo.

What’s going to happen when the Russia thing explodes and the people being arrested aren’t Obama and Clinton?

The ones I encounter seem pretty happy. Trump being President “pisses off” liberals so they’re happy.

I’m sure a lot of the ARE happy. First, they don’t believe anything about scandals. The DO believe that Obama was spying, and all the other horseshit. They think being ‘disruptive’ and chaotic, and unpredictable is what you want in the leader of a superpower, because they’re tired of the rest of the world being insufficiently obsequious.

Getting pounded by heavy rain and wind here in Columbus. Not too bad. Same line of storms in your area.

We’re going to an ACLU benefit tomorrow night (with Gogol Bordello!), on a boat in the middle of NY Harbor.

I’m wondering what contingencies there are for this cruise if there’s a nasty storm going on. I’m expecting…none.

The Middle East is like the British problems with Bosnia-Herzogovina. What was the quote? “There are two people now alive who understood the problem, and one of them is dead, and one of them was me, and I can’t remember it.”

Nope:

Only three people have ever really understood the Schleswig-Holstein business—the Prince Consort, who is dead—a German professor, who has gone mad—and I, who have forgotten all about it.

— Lord Palmerston, according to Lytton Strachey.
