Chemical weapons are high on that list. But if the events of the last few days take you from “hands off, not our problem” to “Assad needs to go” it’s hard to come to any other conclusion than that you simply weren’t paying attention until now.

For example:
This place is the most over-priced mediocre golf club ever. They doubled their initiation fee and it seems pretty obvious Trump is using his new position to cash in. Disgusting for a President to continue profiting off of his constituents. We checked it out and even spoke with current members who stated that they were disappointed with accommodations in comparison to other local properties for the price- and someone mentioned a fire ant problem on some of the greens, food being less than excellent and rude staff members. It’s pretty obvious that your paying for the Trump name, not exceptionally wonderful accommodations.
Even the media seems, now that we’re getting a picture of the futility of this strike, to be coming around to a recognition that we just blew our wad for no appreciable gain besides some impotent fist shaking at Assad.

Off topic: State E-mail received saying I passed my state water operator school examination in the “top third” of the class.

The traditional job of a politician was to ensure an abundance of well paid jobs with benefits for people with minimal skills and education. Naturally, these factory, mining and construction jobs were to be reserved for whites, with blacks and Latinos doing the menial service jobs.
And that, I am sure was a major motivation for them voting for Trump,: he promised to bring back those “good old days”.

How about this programme instead? The Democratic Party invests in building up the party in places like this and actually runs candidates for every seat, rather than hunkering down in a few states and becoming a regional party. (Like it or not, the Electoral College ensures square miles get votes. Democrats need to compete for all the square miles, not just the ones they currently control.)

Attacking Assad’s air force helps Islamic State and Nursa Front (aka al Qaeda’s offshoot). One of the few things Assad has over his enemies is that he’s got an air force that he uses to lob weapons, including gas, to destroy, maim, and kill.
He’s used those airfields in his war that has killed upwards of 400,000 people so far.
This is the thing about intervening in a civil war where all the sides are awful. There are no good outcomes here.
Assad’s repeatedly engaged in democide - killing of populations so as to remain in power (not exactly the same as genocide, since it’s based on politics, not religion, ethnicity, or race per se). Hitting his air force helps his rivals so that they’re less likely to be hit by those aircraft. That means Islamic State benefited from Trump knocking down Assad’s air force even just a bit. Disrupting Assad’s forces helps Islamic State.
Likewise, if you go after Islamic State and Nursa Front, you’re helping Assad since the butcher of Damascus gets to consolidate and remain in power that much longer.
Russia wins here too, since they’re the ones supplying weapons (even if you blow up the stuff on the ground, Assad’s gonna need more stuff, and he’s not getting it from the US).
Add in the spillover effect, and that Trump hasn’t gamed this out beyond the airstrikes, and you see how short sighted this was, and why acting impetuously is what Trump does, and he doesn’t care about the consequences.
Oh, speaking of consequences, anyone want to take bets on whether Kushner gets booted for lying on his security clearance forms. This isn’t some inadvertent nonsense either. This is the kind of thing that ends your career.
But Mr. Kushner did not mention dozens of contacts with foreign leaders or officials in recent months. They include a December meeting with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, and one with the head of a Russian state-owned bank, Vnesheconombank, arranged at Mr. Kislyak’s behest.
Dozens of contacts and meetings. All omitted. You lie on this form, you’re likely to be lying on a lot of other things too. His lawyer (Jaime Gorelick), says that this was inadvertent stuff. I’m not so sure.
All these inadvertent misrepresentations all flow in one direction - lying about contacts with Russians.
This many coincidences isn’t a coincidence. It would appear to be enemy action.

Depends on the point defense systems that Assad has, particularly at the base targeted. Older SAM systems, like the SA-3, SA-7, SA-11, which are widely used by Syria have limited efficiency against cruise missiles.
The newer Russian S-300 and S-400 have claimed capabilities against cruise missiles. Assad may not have that much in the way of those.

I see Comey as principled, but stupid. McConnell, OTOH, is thoroughly lacking any principle except Partei Uber Alles.

I was thinking about this, and I don’t think so. I think McConnell is a product of Gingrich’s destruction of civility and bipartisanship, but in a much, much more subtle way. Gingrich is an egomaniac who needed to be seen doing this stuff. McConnell, OTOH, doesn’t appear to be as partisan, because he picks his battles very carefully. Look at how he reacted during Trump’s ‘Pussygrabber’ crisis. Ryan felt he had to make a public show of disapproval, and ended up getting burned. McConnell? Christ, could you even FIND McConnell during that time? And on the AHCA, Ryan led with his chin while McConnell? Well, hell - he doesn’t have one. But he mouthed meaningless support and did absolutely nothing to stop the inevitable collapse.
He’s sneaky and devious, and utterly without ethics or principle. He’s also smart enough not to get caught in anything he can’t talk his way out of. He demonstrated that you COULD BE the party of No, the party with no ideas, utterly obstructionist, and get reelected, as long as you’re on the Right, and the President is black.
