Trump spent about 90 million dollars to launch an utterly meaningless attack that didn’t impact Assad’s military capability one bit.
But it did succeed in one thing: it got the US media to start praising him.

The Syrian airbase isn’t just the Monty Python Black Knight (tis but a flesh wound), but it appears that the Syrians were back up and running in hours. Sweepers, man your brooms.
Anyone thinking that a single military strike that was ineffectual shows resolve needs to be roundly ignored - and heckled for falling for Trump’s smoke screen.

She is very beholden to Russia for financial support, so if they condemn, she will follow suit.
Oh, and Ivanka.
You were silent about Syria for months (and years), as the body count rose. Your dad opposed any military action there, claiming that it would result in bad things (and no good things for the US). Yet he bombed an airbase and the base was back up and running in hours. Oh, but the media and pundits thought that this was his next and best pivot to date. They bought this baffling BS just as they’ve done all along.
Trump’s reactionary and will respond to any stimulus, and right now he thinks bombing something will improve his standing in the media and polls.
But back to Ivanka.
She’s a part of this administration, despite having no experience that would place her there other than she was Trump’s kid. That’s all it takes. Same with Jared. He’s there only because he’s married to Trump’s kid. They have no experience.
Sorry, running a family business doesn’t count as experience. Doing real estate deals isn’t experience on foreign policy, national security, or domestic policy either.
She was silent as her dad was gutting family leave.
She was silent as her dad and the GOP were about to gut health coverage for millions.
She’s still silent as the GOP and Trump plot to gut health coverage in Trumpcare v.2.0.
Looks get you only so far.
At some point, you’re judged on your actions and experience.
She has none. And her actions are fluff.
There’s no substitute for actual experience, and Trump’s surrounded himself with people who are getting on the job training for the positions they’re engaged in. Everyone from Sec. State on down, with the exception of McMaster, Mattis, and Chao. Incompetence, inexperience, and ignorance are the hallmarks of this regime.
Their intention is to sabotage government, and when you’re talking foreign policy, you affect the economy, alliances, and the global economy. None of these people have a clue how any of this works, and Trump thinks everything is going swimmingly.
He’s in a bubble, and Bannon and Kushner are trying to keep him in one. Trump has them playing off each other - but the real problem is Trump. He’s the one enabling the whole enterprise, and he’s a mess.

However, she is her father’s daughter, IMO. She’s just as capable as fucking over people while whining she’s the victim (claiming she’s a stealth feminist while fucking over women employees at her own company on maternity leave) as her monster of a father.
This woman is now one of the most powerful people in the country simply because she and her husband have to be caretaker for her dad, who may be possibly senile. They have zero political experience, but are sitting in on the highest-level meetings with the military and foreign dignitaries.
That entire family is an unapologetic cancer on the White House, so what little sympathy I have for Ivanka babysitting Daddy evaporates fairly quickly.

I haven’t decided on the cream cheese & cheddar cheese. I have everything plus 1/2 & 1/2 at the ready. I might just go for a light cream finish. Or separate into 2 batches & try ea.
I tend to wing it & it always turns out fine.

Nom! Definitely getting the ingredients for that on my next grocery run. Thank you!
I think the 1/2 & 1/2 will be perfect. There’s already so much creamy going on with the cheeses heavy cream would be overkill.

I’m watching Facebook idiots (thankfully, friends of friends) start harping about we’re in Syria to seize an oil pipeline, and that “it doesn’t make sense that Assad would bomb his own people.”
Pardon the heat of this, but—the right and left are unified in not knowing fucking anything about geopolitics or history, and it’s fucking exhausting. They don’t know they’re the metropole, and all this braying amounts to ignoring what’s being said by the people getting murdered in the periphery.
They’ve found the narrative that makes them feel good, important, and righteous/correct.
The irony that they’re accepting information from a state-run press of a socially-conservative petrostate that’s fucking over its own citizens just doesn’t fucking penetrate. If its not “liberal fake news” or “untrustworthy globalist press (something, something, neoliberals)” is must have validity, right?
Fucking idiots. The future is rubes, paying to get stamped in the face, over and over.

Good lord. The air forces of the world have devoted a lot of energy (and money) to ways to disable runways, developing a number of specific weapons for this purpose. In 1967, the Israelis disabled Egyptian and Syrian runways with the “concrete dibber,” later refined and sold by the French as the Durandal. These were purchased by the US Air Force among others.
“It was used by the USAF in Desert Storm, delivered by F-111E’s of the 20th Fighter Wing operating out of Turkey. 20th Wing flight commander Captain George Kelman said ‘there is nothing better at destroying a runway than a Durandal.’”
The RAF developed a very sophisticated device called JP-233 for cratering runways. The very first British strike of the Falklands War specifically targeted the runway at the Argentine held Port Stanley airport (though not with JP-233). In Rockets and Missiles (1977) British expert Bill Gunston refers to a cratering sub-munition as one of the payloads for the upcoming Tomahawk cruise missile.

Would I punch a white supremacist Nazi like Richard Spencer? Probably not, unless directly confronted.
Do I think he deserved the punch? Fuck. Yes.
Why?
He’s a white supremacist Nazi. He’s pretty much the walking definition of everything this country is allegedly supposed to oppose.
We spent nearly four years trying to put these bastards down in WW2, with tens of thousands of Americans paying the ultimate cost.
There’s also the whole Holocaust deal, that people like Spencer, at best, say is wildly exaggerated.
Fuck it. These people are a goddamned menace. There’s one advising the fucking POTUS. In 2017. These shitheels now have a toehold in our government.
The same government that Lincoln managed to save, only to get a bullet in his brains for the trouble. Courtesy of a white supremacist, by the way.
I’m not saying to go out and get your Punisher on, but white supremacist Nazis tend not to respond to reasoned discourse on why their particular brand of scumbaggery is bad for humanity.
So if I see someone like Spencer getting coldcocked, I will laugh my ass off. Because like it or not, white supremacist Nazis got the green light to let it all hang out in the last election.
And unfortunately, the way things are headed, a stern talking-to isn’t going to make them go away.

Obama treated military intervention as a necessary evil, something that he wished to avoid but would call upon when the situation made other measures untenable. And for that, they dubbed him “weak” and “feckless,” claiming that he didn’t have the stomach to protect America.

re: #206 HappyWarrior
“Peaceful ethnic cleansing” is the phrase the little pissant uses.
The UN definition of “ethnic cleansing” is different than the definition of “genocide”. Many interchange these phrases not aware of the difference.
As ethnic cleansing has not been recognized as an independent crime under international law, there is no precise definition of this concept or the exact acts to be qualified as ethnic cleansing.
&
Genocide was first recognized as a crime under international law in 1946 by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/96-I). It was codified as an independent crime in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention). The Convention has been ratified by 147 States (as of December 2016). The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has repeatedly stated that the Convention embodies principles that are part of general customary international law. This means that whether or not States have ratified the Genocide Convention, they are all bound as a matter of law by the principle that genocide is a crime prohibited under international law. The ICJ has also stated that the prohibition of genocide is a peremptory norm of international law (or ius cogens) and consequently, no derogation from it is allowed.
Basically, ethnic cleansing is an internal matter, not regarded as a reason for international intervention. Genocide is a bona fide reason to intervene.
I hate when politicians and *ahem* journalists use the words incorrectly.

From the UN Ethnic Cleansing link above:
The Commission of Experts also stated that the coercive practices used to remove the civilian population can include: murder, torture, arbitrary arrest and detention, extrajudicial executions, rape and sexual assaults, severe physical injury to civilians, confinement of civilian population in ghetto areas, forcible removal, displacement and deportation of civilian population, deliberate military attacks or threats of attacks on civilians and civilian areas, use of civilians as human shields, destruction of property, robbery of personal property, attacks on hospitals, medical personnel, and locations with the Red Cross/Red Crescent emblem, among others.
The Commission of Experts added that these practices can “… constitute crimes against humanity and can be assimilated to specific war crimes. Furthermore, such acts could also fall within the meaning of the Genocide Convention.”

I don’t want anyone get beat up, but I want the Nazis to go back to being afraid that people will find out who they are.
re: #221 HappyWarrior
I didn’t say it was going to help but it’s hard to feel much sympathy for someone who advocates for ethnic cleansing. Would I punch Spencer? Probably not but the fascist little fucker needs a good ass kicking to reality.
How I feel about Assange.
Wanker.
Sadly, I think being bullied when young might have lead to his current state.
I’d still like to see him getting a swirly.
re: #224 Stanley Sea
Fucker is on the street getting interviewed by interesting media. Admitted Nazi.
Seeing how history worked, there is no room for contemplation.
I just know this. He wants far more than sucker punches for people he deems inferior. He has his right to free speech but it is really difficult for me to feel sympathy for him getting decked when he advocates what he does. He’s nothing but a fucking coward.

Sociopaths will never be afraid.
Like religious Zealots, they’d rather live and die a martyr.
re: #216 PhillyPretzel
He was (still) not weak. He is much smarter than the uncouth one.
Very true. For one thing, he would have seen no value in blowing a few potholes in a Syrian airfield. While videos of Tomahawk missile strikes give reporters wood, it did nothing to advance our interests in the region.

Were Spencer or Assnege bullied as kids? I didn’t know. I was to some extent. Some people take their bullying and become more empathetic and understanding becaues of it. Others become like CCJ and even more crueler. Kind of like how the Western Front produced both pacifists and the people who gave the world WWII.
re: #206 HappyWarrior
“Peaceful ethnic cleansing” is the phrase the little pissant uses.
Well he got a “peaceful punching”
While trying to separate the moral from the legal, the question whether he should be punched is actually quite an interesting dillema that does require a fair amount of cognitive understand to unravel the complexities of whether laws are simply the written morality of a complex society, or whether they are simply a reflection of such based on the recognition of the human id requiring a set of ethical constructs to encode agreed upon moral values on a fragmented populace. If you can deconstruct this seemingly opposing, yet in reality positional truths, the conclusion, in its simplistic paradigm is fuck it, he’s a Nazi . Have at it.

Yes, but up until Trump became a viable candidate, most of them didn’t want to get caught.

Assange, like Trump, could have also not been taught proper boundaries. Spencer also falls into this description.
re: #225 Birth Control Works
Kinda like a shot of heroin —it passes and then you feel really shitty?
Would you feel shitty for stopping a bully from beating their wife or kid? Nazis are terrorizing immigrant communities right now.
Thing is, we knew back in 2004 that Syria was a serious threat, not only to it’s own citizens, but to stability in the region.
We went for Iraq, and Afghanistan. Syria would have been too much. Bush knew that.
To say Obama did nothing is incorrect. No one, Democrat, Independent or Republican would have supported military intervention in Syria in the early years of his administration.
Few do now.
ahhh “After the Thin Man.” Leave it to PBS to have good old movies on TV.

Well, those who beat their wives or kids are not bullies. They are abusers and that is a Felony. One has a responsibility to intervene to stop the abuse.
Frankly, Immigrants are getting it from all angles, not just Nazi’s.
We have to come together as a country on this issue. I notice some states—especially New York are taking positive action for immigrants.

Charles, I am not getting sound on videos here lately. They work on Youtube. Safari, Mac.
I may be late with an answer, but I find with Chrome, if the page has been loaded for some time, the videos drop the sound. I just hit the individual post refresh button (circular arrow) and that fixes it.

A bully is an abuser and an abuser is a bully.
Bully- One who goes after someone more vulnerable than them i.e. a spouse or child or marginalized group such as an immigrant.
re: #209 Mattand
Let me say that I consider it completely morally justified and that I can’t say any more out of deference to our host’s rules.
re: #236 Belafon

That is a good and construction way to think of it.
Boundries must be enforced. IT is a crime to terrorize others —in certain instances, I think it can be considered torture. I have a feeling the ACLU and such lawyers know how to bring such things to court.
It’s all in the wording when making the 911 call.
re: #242 HappyWarrior
A bully is an abuser and an abuser is a bully.
Under the Law —and remember we are a nation of laws not men —they are different terms.
I guess the underlying meme here is that Nazi’s have no justification for feeling superior.
The reverse must also be true —do non-Nazi’s feel themselves superior to Nazi’s?
Legal Definitinon of Bullying:
I guess a bully is an abuser outside the domicile. and not a sexual predator.

Well considering we fought a war against Nazis, yeah I do feel myself superior to Nazis.

There can be crossover though. Abuse can equally be only verbal. I am just saying. I find it impossible to garner up much sympathy for an asshole who writes about ethnic cleansing people. I mean maybe if he was merely writing racial supremacy bullshit but this guy litertally advocates for cleansing people. I think the difference between abuse and bullying really isn’t as big as you’re making it out to be and abuse is more intimate while bullying is more to someone more distant. I..e one abuses a spouse or child whereas one bullies a coworker or stranger.

And when the laws themselves turn against justice? With the modern incarnation of the GOP holding all of the levers of power and actively pursuing the most regressive agenda and oppressive agenda in 150 years, how far away are we from having no justice BUT street justice?
re: #236 Belafon
Assange, like Trump, could have also not been taught proper boundaries. Spencer also falls into this description.
Assange was partially raised in a bizarre Nazi eugenics cult in Australia called “The Family” and also known as The Great White Brotherhood that brainwashed kidnapped children with LSD.
Trump was raised by his racist Klan member father whose own father in turn was a pimp.
I have no idea what Spencer’s background is but yeah it’s a good bet some fucked up shit went down in his formative years.
Welp, looks like I poked another stick into another hornet’s nest with one tweet about Tulsi Gabbard.
Tulsi Gabbard is a right wing extremist masquerading as a progressive Democrat. There. I said it. And I meant it.

Reminds me of what happens when you criticize Bernie Sanders. Insults flying at me from all directions.
re: #214 Birth Control Works
That’s correct. Each has specific legal meaning, and using genocide in international law/foreign policy can invoke specific requirements to act under the Genocide Convention.
Arguably, he’s engaging in ethnic cleansing, but more appropriately, he’s engaging in democide, which is not recognized in the international law because it looks at the government action as not against a specific religious, ethnic, or racial group, but rather an entire group of people based on political action/belief.

I wonder if Beth Fukumoto lives in the 2nd district? Be a hoot if she ran against Gabbard and won. I’d rather someone like her than just another liar like Gabbard.

If she hadn’t supported Bernie. She’d be just another “Neo-lib” to those people. She’s awful. And it’s got nothing ot do with Sanders.

I’d rather someone with more longstanding progressive creds. I like what I know about Fukumoto but she was a Republican until just recently. Let her prove herself as a Democrat before sending her to Washington.

It’s not “Nazi’s”. It’s Nazis. No apostrophes needed.
Wbr, grammar Nazi.
Also, if you feel that punching Nazis in real life is a good thing to do, have at it. Just don’t complain afterwards when someone you like gets punched. The law is for everyone.

We’re a nation of laws, but there are also things, that, while not illegal, should not be condoned. Adultery, for instance, or any system that allows a person to intimidate someone else. I will not argue the idea that Nazis are allowed to exist just because there’s the possibility I might feel morally superior. Their philosophy is wrong, and because it attempts to eradicate others, should not be allowed to operate freely in this country.

Etymology
Based on Ancient Greek δῆμος (dêmos, “people”) + -cide.
I hate when definitions don’t include the etymology. I never took Greek, so it didn’t make sense to me. Homocide + 1 person Democide = people
Interesting, thanks for posting

Punching anyone carries a low statistical likelihood of homicide. If you are willing to kill, finish the job.
