Yeah, some people at Marvel are apparently of the opinion that their comics starring non-white male characters are killing their sales. Which is pretty much bullshit. Sales at Marvel are down, but comics like Coates’ “Black Panther,” “Ms. Marvel,” and others aren’t doing that badly.

What does hurt Marvel, at least in my opinion, is a combination of too many crossover events (which are expensive to follow and mess up storylines in individual comics), too much enthusiasm for reboots and renumberings of issues (which make it more confusing for readers to keep track of comics), and shotgunning too many new comics into the market (which makes it impossible for new comics to get and keep new readers).

Marvel still has way too many GamerGate-curious douchebros in their offices trying to make comics safe for hating girls and brown people again.

As a resident of China and an American citizen, I am truly, truly worried about Trump’s complete and total ignorance of foreign affairs. He’s taking lessons and, likely, advice from China’s president on how to deal with North Korea. IOW, we don’t have two leaders on approximately equal footing, either intellectually or geopolitically, but an expert (Xi Jinping) with years of political experience and a ninny with an overinflated sense of his own expertise. China will play Trump like a GD violin, and the USA will consequently lose inlfuence in the Asian region for years to come — especially if Il Trumpino does something stupid with the Navy task force.

By all accounts, Xi is an ambitious leader and he wants China to be the dominant power in the Asia-Pacific region. By ignoring the State Dept and the IC, Trump is walking into a trap of his own device, mark my words.

I am very glad I do not live anywhere near Beijing or the Korean border.

I learned that it’s part of Chinese food culture. Every meal should be a balance of spicy, salty, sweet, sour and bitter as much as possible. Having a typically super-sweet Western dessert would skew the balance bigly. Fruit is considered appropriate as a palate cleanser.

OTOH, moon cakes, the traditional snack for Mid-Autumn Festival are sometimes cloyingly sweet.

There’s always exceptions.

The Daily News has more on Justice Abdus-Salaam and her groundbreaking legacy on the Court of Appeals (NY’s highest court), but no word on cause of death. Investigators and the Medical Examiner are looking into the cause of death and it’s too soon to know what happened.

It’s possible that this is nothing more than a tragic accident, where she slipped and fell into the River. Or, there may be criminality involved. An investigation and autopsy should be able to make that determination.

You have to understand Kansas and how the media/TV/radio are used in the state. If you have basic cable what channels do you get? 30 channels and only FOX “news” for a 24/hour news channel. If you want to pay for premium cable (which my grandparents refuse to do because they are cheap) you will get CNN, and to get MSNBC you have to buy the most expensive package. The radio all around the state is nothing but RWNJ. That bubble is strong in Kansas.

The only time I’ve seen differently was a couple weeks ago when traveling through the state I saw a McDs and a gas station off of I-70 actually have CNN on (though all the old men drinking coffee there were talking about how great tRump was).

Also having grown up in Kansas - the default is voting R - no bad how bad the R is - they believe the R will always be better than the D. This is usually because of a single issue voting (abortion).

You have to understand Kansas and how the media/TV/radio are used in the state. If you have basic cable what channels do you get? 30 channels and only FOX “news” for a 24/hour news channel. If you want to pay for premium cable (which my grandparents refuse to do because they are cheap) you will get CNN, and to get MSNBC you have to buy the most expensive package. The radio all around the state is nothing but RWNJ. That bubble is strong in Kansas.

The only time I’ve seen differently was a couple weeks ago when traveling through the state I saw a McDs and a gas station off of I-70 actually have CNN on (though all the old men drinking coffee there were talking about how great tRump was).

Also having grown up in Kansas - the default is voting R - no bad how bad the R is - they believe the R will always be better than the D. This is usually because of a single issue voting (abortion).

Sounds like this is all the fault of the DNC!!!

So, the target was apparently a tunnel.

21,000 pounds of explosives.

It comes a few days after a US Special Forces member was killed in fighting in the area. My guess is that they came upon a tunnel complex, the special forces soldier was killed, and the US determined that the application of high explosives might address the situation with what they consider finality.

That’d have to be one heck of a tunnel complex, and given the US history of dealing with tunnels (see Cu Chi in Vietnam), there’s a good chance that the bomb turns out to be ineffectual, or didn’t eliminate the threat.

Arizona Sunshine on the Vive. The Vive is fantastic. So good I converted my living room to a VR room. I played it solo a month ago, but playing with a friend is so much better.

Raw Data is supposed to be good co-op too, but my friend got his PC set up last night so we’ve only played one co-op game so far. We play PC games every weekend, so we’ll shift that to VR to get healthier.

He points out that the staff on the plane were not United employees, rather contractors, and it was airport security who beat the victim. Of course the policy to drag people off flights, instead of buying them out at any cost, must come from United management.

They’ve refunded the ticket price of everyone on the flight, lost a million in market value, and will pay millions in a settlement. They could have easily bought someone’s seat from them for far less.

The guy was a paying customer who had boarded his flight. He may have even had bags checked, who knows… if you needed to allocate seats for flight crew, they should know that before they start putting butts on the plane, which is 30 minutes before the designated flight time. United had a crew at the airport ready to go to Louisville means that THEY ALREADY KNEW this from every bleeping person who had checked into the flight, since you need an hour to simply check your bags and wend your way through the security theatre and then trudge to wherever the hell the gate is. The folks at the gate should have already had this information in hand before a single ass even hits a seat.

If United couldn’t get their flight crews into the proper airport at the designated time, why should any other paying customer have to give up a seat that they’ve already paid for? If United needed those people in Louisville in time to make their flight, then it should be on the business itself to find an accommodation with someone, anyone before they start to even BOARD the plane.

I can’t think of a single other business that gets to operate this way and to be fair, there’s no reason to allow the airline industry to do so.

There are so many ways United could have avoided shooting themselves in the face like this, and once it happened, everyone involved in the policy and the incident should have resigned for the sake of all the people who work for United.

I’m told the culture has been badly damaged since the merger with Continental put a lot of Continental execs in charge. I saw a once-great 350 employee company ruined by the same thing, so I tend to believe it.

Yeah - and if there’s one thing I _never_ want to do, it’s that.
They have the obligatory multiplayer shooter thing, but I really want a co-op game.

I’ve avoided alt-space after a single visit, because rooms full of idiots annoy me, but with a friend in VR, we can set up a private room and enjoy events together. We plan to attend the Coachella live feed this weekend.

I’m no fan of multiplayer, but am fortunate to have a friend who enjoys co-op as much as I do.
