I hope he doesn’t get an approval bump from this either…although maybe if he did it would lower the possibility of him dropping a nuke.

Just so fucked up. He’s like a 7 year old playing Battleship.

The gigantic bomb we dropped today cost us $16 million. And the entire program to develop and build them has so far cost $314 million.

But yeah, let’s gut all of America’s social programs and environmental protections to give the military more trillions of dollars.

Obama carried out a ton of bombings and military actions. Yes, he also got a Nobel Peace Prize (which I still think was undeserved at the time). These are not incompatible positions to take, especially when the President’s job is to keep the nation safe from foreign and domestic threats.

Obama got bin Laden. He got Awlaki. He got a whole boatload of al Qaeda number 2 guys. He got a boatload of IS fighters too, but all that gets ignored by right wingers who still think Obama is a super secret Muslim Kenyan.

More hatred for America from all over the world.

We earned that hatred in the 50s and 60s. The far-right has brought back something horrific that we had been moving away from. They refuse to grow out of the awful old-ways that will make civilization a dead-end if they’re not marginalized.

Guess Pompeo saw the intel that suggests that there’s a lot more to the Russia-Trump connections? Or perhaps the intel community has mugged Pompeo with a dose of reality.

An air strike by the US-led coalition mistakenly killed 18 members of a rebel militia that Washington backs in the fight against Isis in Syria.

The Pentagon said that the strike hit the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) south of the city of Tabqa on Tuesday after another US partner in the conflict told it that Isis militants were in the area.

“The target location was actually a forward Syrian Democratic Forces fighting position,” the Pentagon said on Thursday.

When Trump won the election, after my week of panic and deep mourning, I asked the husband what he felt was going to happen with Trump.

“Oh, he’ll go play with his new military toys and let Paul Ryan and Bannon and others of his advisors run the domestic policy front. He’ll sign whatever they give him as long as he gets to play with his new toys that make a big boom.”

Weeks later, I reminded him of that, and said, “Yeah, you nailed it. Thank God Paul Ryan can’t control his people.”

“People can’t govern that think the government shouldn’t exist. Now Trump is going to start jettisoning advisors.”

Waiting….

I hope so, but we thought we were just about there in the 70s, until reactionary forces dragged us back into their destructive war on politically-incorrect drugs. It didn’t help that Carter’s drug czar was caught doing coke at a high-times party. It was nice to have a drug czar that understands drugs for a change instead of a reactionary blockhead, but this was very poor judgement.

Is David Clarke “pro-life”?

Jennifer Jawson had been in jail for more than a week when she learned her unborn baby’s heart wasn’t beating.

It was December in Milwaukee, and Jawson had been arrested on a suspected probation violation and jailed while the court sorted things out.

Eight months and three weeks into her pregnancy, she faced the very real possibility of giving birth to her baby in jail, according to court documents. So the medical staff worked out a routine: Everyday they’d connect her to a fetal monitor and listen for her baby’s heartbeat.

All was well on Dec. 2, a day after she was booked into the Milwaukee Criminal Justice Center. Medical staff wrote that the baby had “strong fetal heart tones.” But things went downhill from there, according to a claim against the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, a precursor to an $8.5 million lawsuit. The 35-year-old says jail officials didn’t give her the proper medication during her week in jail.

What the hell is the New York Times’ problem?

They seem to be all over the place…

Oh wait. Being all over the place means you don’t want to write the truth, you want it both ways so you can keep all kinds of readers.

And their subscriptions have gone up with people thinking they were on the right track. Looks like they want to publish everything they see and hear and leave it up to their readers to figure out what is truth and what is garbage. That’s not good.

One way to fix the problem…start threatening those subscriptions.

It’s not strict yellow journalism. But it is a form of yellow as in cowardly.

Lord may be the worst Trump ballsucker of them all and man Trump has a lot of bad ones.

I think there is a great word for them.

syc*o*phant
ˈsikəˌfant,ˈsikəfənt/
noun
a person who acts obsequiously toward someone important in order to gain advantage.
synonyms: yes-man, bootlicker, brown-noser, toady, lickspittle, flatterer, flunky, lackey, spaniel, doormat, stooge, cringer, suck, suck-up

“I thought you wanted a competent assistant, not a nodding sycophant”

Sycophants…all of them.

And their motivations are beyond wanting favor, they also see Trump as giving them license to be evil arch conservatives with nasty agendas.

117
nines09  Apr 13, 2017 • 2:40:39pm

Sanity and Competence last met in an upscale eatery on the south side….After cocktails and a few friends sharing stories, the couple was last seen exiting the establishment after a text to Competence that seemed to frighten her. As they exited, a taxi pulled up and they both entered. They have not been heard from since. There are no signs of foul play. Both apartments remain untouched except for what appears to be hurried packing..Friends related the look on the face of Competence as she read the text as one of fear…or sadness…. Sanity looked at it and seemed to be consoling her, even as he tried to not appearing to do so…

re: #7 Charles Johnson

The gigantic bomb we dropped today cost us $16 million. And the entire program to develop and build them has so far cost $314 million.

But yeah, let’s gut all of America’s social programs and environmental protections to give the military more trillions of dollars.

Yeah, no. Not really. Program cost of $314M US divided by the initial run of twenty gives a unitary cost of $16M US. Even by the simplest reckoning it’s not “… cost us $16 million. And…” - that’s already in the program cost.

Also, with just an initial production run of twenty units (since it turned out the Iraq war went a lot smoother than the AF was counting on/hoping for), it’s a safe bet that the overwhelming majority of that program cost was spent developing/testing the buggers, not building the actual stockpile.
Frankly if a run of another 50-100 of the things would cost more than $2-3M a pop I’d be surprised (wouldn’t even surprise me too much if production in any sort of decent volume would hit a six figure pricetag per pop).

Is Trump goofing around with massive ordnance? Yup. Keep in mind though, those operations against AQ targets in Afghanistan are legitimate, necessary support of an allied nation which has largely been ongoing for some time. Also, more conventional JDAM weapons aren’t exactly free, either - and neither are flying hours on the planes delivering those. A bunch of those plus a whole bunch of f-16/f-18 flights (keep in mind, c-130’s are pretty economical, certainly by payload weight!) aren’t going to be cheap either.

Bottom line: Yes, he’s grandstanding. Nope, I’m not happy with that either. But this is hardly the waste of tax money you’re making it out to be - not even close!

And as the yam prepares to go to war with every fucking country on earth, this is who he appoints to head the draft board:

Benton was expected to be working in the EPA but working with Scott Pruitt wasn’t working out so well. The Washington Post reported that Benton began interrupting policy discussions making weird statements so the staff began keeping him out of meetings.

Trump wanted to award (sic) Benton’s loyalty as he was an early supporter and the chair of Trump’s campaign. Benton was qualified to work at the EPA but the EPA had no desire to work with him. Trump’s solution was to give him oversight over the military draft. He’ll be the first non-military person in history to hold the position if he’s confirmed by the senate…

Benton is a sales consultant by trade.

In the meantime, I’ve gotten my bike out of the shed, pumped up the tires, and ran around town today on it teaching me two very important facts:

1) I am atrociously out of shape

2) I need to thank god that our city is mostly level. There is only one real hill, it’s fairly gently sloped and I rarely have to go there.

I also could use a seat that isn’t quite so uncomfortable but that’s a different whine.

Trump’s latest insanity is that he’s threatening North Korea if they carry out a nuclear test, or that he’d attack preemptively.

Either would abrogate the ceasefire agreement in place since 1953, and it would throw the Korean peninsula into a state of war, where the South would be at a disadvantage since major population centers would be within range of the bulk of the North’s firepower. Seoul would be within the North’s basic missile and long range artillery.

Millions of South Koreans would be at risk thanks to Trump’s actions.

The US and South Korean don’t have that kind of air defense system to intercept that many artillery rounds or missiles. Artillery is far cheaper than anti-missile or anti-artillery fire.

Throw in the millions living in Japan, and you’d have a real conflagration on your hands, and a world thrown into chaos, all because Trump thinks that dropping a few missiles or bombs makes him a know-it-all.

It conveniently ignores that fact that even if Hillary decided that intervention in Syria was necessary, she would have done the following before attacking.
1. Gotten approval from Congress
2. Put together an international coalition

This would have taken more than 3 months, if it was even possible.

An anonymous Twitter account sending out anti-Semitic messages helped lead police to a Northern Virginia college student they say spray-painted swastikas and other Nazi imagery on a Fairfax County Jewish Community Center and nearby church.

Fairfax County police arrested 20-year-old Dylan M. Mahone, of Annandale, on Wednesday in connection with the vandalism that appeared at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia and the Little River United Church of Christ earlier this week.

Mahone has been charged with multiple counts of felony destruction of property, placing a swastika on religious property with the intent to intimidate and wearing a mask in public to conceal his identity. Each of the felonies carries a potential punishment of between one and five years in prison, police said.

Mahone is also suspected of posting anti-Semitic flyers on a campus of Northern Virginia Community College last month, police said. Mahone attended the school for one semester, Fairfax County police spokeswoman Julie Parker said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.

Normally it’s not such a huge deal for me to get them done. Having to include a Sch C and Sch F is usually the most complicated part of the federal return.

Those who are doing the Ooohing and ahhinng seem to forget that the the world of the 21st Century isn’t the world of the 19th Century. An unhinged, impulse-driven, attention-seeking U.S. president, an unhinged, power-hungry Syrian leader who is intent upon maintaining power in his nation come hell or high water, a young, unhinged, nuclear-armed North Korean leader who is salivating at the thought of using a nuke on the U.S., and a manipulative, ego-maniacal Russian president who is just itching to expand his power is not a thought that gives me ease or makes me sleep well at night. One of my biggest concerns is what happens if Trump gives the OK to fire on North Korea? The consequences are terrifying, and it would be devastating not only for persons living in the region but also for Americans, especially since Kim Jong-Un has openly expressed a desire to aim one of his nukes at the USA.

Probably, but if you look over to the right, you can see the bigass extension ladder from the ladder truck and at least two more firefighters getting ready to carry people out.

I mean, they have something like an 80% failure rate on their ICBM’s, they can’t even get their missiles to fly. But to be brutally honest, now that it’s coming to the point where nuclear war is a serious threat again… it’s not funny anymore.

Vital role to a Trump means since women are kept earning low wages, it is more profit for the company as they get away with cheaper labor.

Trump bombs an air field in Syria, and its operational in a matter of hours

Normally it’s not such a huge deal for me to get them done. Having to include a Sch C and Sch F is usually the most complicated part of the federal return.

This year I had to figure out how to deal with how to report all of the inheritance stuff, so it was just mostly a psychological thing of not really wanting to deal with it.

It’s not my strong suit. I have reached the point of paying just about everything with one credit card, which I pay off each month, so the records are handy. Just glad it was a pretty good year, so I don’t have to worry about not having the money to pay. Of course, if I did quarterly estimates as I’m supposed to, that wouldn’t be a problem.

Probably, but if you look over to the right, you can see the bigass extension ladder from the ladder truck and at least two more firefighters getting ready to carry people out.

I’m a retired firefighter and there’s a reason I didn’t even considered going for Firefighter III certification…that required climbing a ladder truck ladder like the one in the photo.

I saw them too. I just figured the guy on the left might be with the park.

And I sincerely doubt the park would try to evacuate people down the “access” available. That would be rather harrowing.

So, firemen it would have to be.

And, I wonder what is in place at a park like Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio? They have some of the tallest coasters around. Ladder trucks might not be able to be used on some of them.

I really don’t see why everyone is shocked/dismayed that the US military employed a MOAB in support of operations in Nangarhar Province.
They dropped a number of Vietnam era “Daisy Cutters”, which the MOAB replaced in the US weapons inventory, back in 2001.
Both weapons were used for the same purpose, to attack cave/tunnel networks and their surrounding defenses.

I haven’t even started on mine, but one good thing I do every year is keep all of my records in one place. Doing this allows me to pull, tally, and file online. I keep promising myself I’m going to file earlier every year, but I never do. I’ll have them completed by Saturday, though. One reason I’m not looking forward to filing my taxes is because I already know I’ll owe the IRS.

Unfortunately I don’t have everything in one place and I haven’t started either. Once I started April 15th 8Pm and filed online by 11PM. Fortunately they aren’t due till April 18th this year.

IMO the key piece of missing information is where the decision-making for this was done. If this was all done by front line commanders, then it might be OK, but direct involvement of the White House makes it exceedingly likely that Trump ordered this to entertain himself and as a prelude for war in North Korea.

Testing the missiles has some telltale tells - since the majority of the ICBMs have been liquid fueled, versus solid fueled.

IRBMs are also mostly liquid fueled, but the North has started testing solid fueled missiles, which don’t require the kind of setup, and therefore are more easily concealed for testing purposes.

As for the nuclear tests, there’s only a handful of places where the North can conduct these underground tests, and when the spy satellites see increased activity, they know something is about to go down. That means we also move assets into the region to test for fallout (escaping radioactive particles that can signal efficiency of the detonation or whether it was a fizzle) as well as defense of Japan and South Korea (AEGIS cruisers, THAAD, etc.)

The target was a cave network used by the Taliban. An official explanation hasn’t been offered, but theoretically the MOAB’s massive pressure wave would move through the air of the whole cave system, killing anybody inside.

That would be a “logic” for its use, but it’s not necessarily the actual reason.

According to the report I was listening to while folding the laundry, the MOAB was appropriate weaponry given the terrain and the target; it was the military that made the decision and not Trump. It’s up to them to determine the right tools; they then informed the civilian authorities of the decision. It appears not to be anything outrageous; let’s see if it was actually effective.

That’s the thing too, the MOAB isn’t a “bunker buster” by design. It’s primarily designed to engage large surface target areas using extreme over pressure. Employing it in the valleys of Nangarhar Province would increase it’s effectiveness against caves/tunnels. Which is why back in 2001 they dropped similar weapons in the same general area.
Also, it could be advantageous psychologically. It’s pretty terrifying for those being attacked, and highly motivational for those prepared to enter the area after the attack. The motivation is a big deal in my mind, because it’s Afghan forces being sent in to clear the area.
