“…That Adams’s dive into theology is extremely half-assed is not, in his view, a problem; in fact, half-assedness has long been his guiding principle. For him, mediocrity is a feature, not a bug. Read Adams’s slew of other sacred texts—especially business advice books like The Dilbert Principle—and you will quickly grasp his message: you don’t need to be well-informed about anything if you are shoddily informed about many things. Just bite off a little bit of this and a little bit of that, masticate it around until it’s gooey and soft, and then spit it out to see where (and how much of) it sticks.

It’s not hard to see why Adams would see in Trump a pure expression of his divine ideal. During the run up to the election, Trump padded his team of advisers with mysterious foreign policy experts, garnered praise from a cohort of fringe Christian pastors, and surrounded himself with scandal-ridden politicos that faded in and out of view every few months.”

I think I heard Rachel Maddow caution the other night, these tax day protests would be as active and large as the Million Women March the day after The Inauguration.

Good to see a lot of people turned out.

Hmmm, I’ve been busy and keeping up with local media. I wonder if anything was going on today here in Ohio’s Capital City.

I had a day of testing by neuro experts this week. Good news and bad news:

a.) I’m cleared to ride a bike again. They didn’t say I should, but that I can. Second Impact Syndrome is no longer a concern.

b.) No coffee after noon. So when I went to ‘my’ coffee shop after my lunch break (it’s their first day open since the breakup!), instead of a refill, I got a piece of chocolate cheesecake. We cope how we can…

I’m waiting for the written report before I pedal anything outside. (Expected in 1 to 3 weeks.) Also need a new helmet, I gave my old one away. Good thing I kept a bike!

I aced some tests, and flunked others. The most educational tests I’ve ever taken.

“As good as you ever were” is sometimes a positive diagnosis.

And sometimes you have to learn how to walk again, and you find out you were doing it wrong in the first place. This has been a very educational experience. CL was one of my ‘brain buddies’. I saw her working harder than she used to after her brain incident. She checked her facts, did her research, and worked to get the right info to the people who cared. I’m starting with taking a lot more notes to make up for the memory shortfalls. And googling words to see if they mean the same thing they used to.

(I wasn’t ‘walking’ wrong, but ‘working’ wrong in some ways. They actually couldn’t tell me anything about why I feel so funny when I walk. More focused on the cognitive stuff.)

Milk is the new, creamy symbol of white racial purity in Donald Trump’s America

“…Some white supremacists think white ethnic identity has a geographic, historical correlation with the body’s tolerance for milk — specifically, the production of the lactase enzyme that allows humans to break down lactose.

On 4chan, the internet’s hate speech hit factory, one anonymous poster laid this thesis out using the following graphic from a study in Nature, showing hotspots of where certain populations have higher milk tolerances.

This new solar-powered device can pull water straight from the desert air

You can’t squeeze blood from a stone, but wringing water from the desert sky is now possible, thanks to a new spongelike device that uses sunlight to suck water vapor from air, even in low humidity. The device can produce nearly 3 liters of water per day for every kilogram of spongelike absorber it contains, and researchers say future versions will be even better. That means homes in the driest parts of the world could soon have a solar-powered appliance capable of delivering all the water they need, offering relief to billions of people.

There are an estimated 13 trillion liters of water floating in the atmosphere at any one time, equivalent to 10% of all of the freshwater in our planet’s lakes and rivers. Over the years, researchers have developed ways to grab a few trickles, such as using fine nets to wick water from fog banks, or power-hungry dehumidifiers to condense it out of the air. But both approaches require either very humid air or far too much electricity to be broadly useful.

To find an all-purpose solution, researchers led by Omar Yaghi, a chemist at the University of California, Berkeley, turned to a family of crystalline powders called metal organic frameworks, or MOFs. Yaghi developed the first MOFs—porous crystals that form continuous 3D networks—more than 20 years ago. The networks assemble in a Tinkertoy-like fashion from metal atoms that act as the hubs and sticklike organic compounds that link the hubs together. By choosing different metals and organics, chemists can dial in the properties of each MOF, controlling what gases bind to them, and how strongly they hold on.

I’m not a fan of milk. (I’m not lactose-intolerant, I just don’t care for it much.)

I cannot get through on the phone to my sister. No answer. She is the sort of person that would show up for an anti-fascism protest, so I hope she just has her cell phone off.

I, on the other hand, am a True Child of the Frozen Northlands. Milk! Butter! Cheese! Ice cream! Etc.! Too bad butterfat has so many calories.

I trust your sister has enough sense to avoid the protest.

Quite frankly, no one should be drinking milk once they have finished nursing as an infant. Milk is meant for baby cows-not for humans. You can thank Big Dairy for convincing you that you need to drink milk.

99
DuckDharma  Apr 15, 2017 • 3:10:54pm

The milk thing is mostly a response from trolls / alt-light types because of an equally stupid article from a university student claiming milk is “pushed” to the detriment of African Americans’ health. Then PETA got in on it. Like the Stephen Miller’s “gang signs” that never actually existed, it’s now a thing. Stormfront seems divided on whether it’s actually a sign of racial superiority or “a jew thing.”

Nah, we’re omnivores. We take our food where we find it. Drinking cow’s milk is no more unnatural than almond “milk” or eating eggs or whatever. No one “needs” dairy products, but they’re a perfectly legit source of nutrition.

Big Dairy sounds like a Breitbart tab.

No one needs a cell phone either, so I guess Big Cell pushes that. In the meantime, Big Silicone pushes computers (and breast implants) that no one needs either.

There are other sources for milk than cows, and humans have been drinking milk as long as they have kept cattle.

That wingnut Ezra Levant accused (from Canada) George Soros of funding a group trying to prevent him from starting a television channel, and also accused Mr. Soros of collaborating with the Nazis as a child.

Mr. Soros threatened to sue Mr. Levant for libel, and Levant withdrew his article and apologised to Soros.

Apparently George Soros is such a threat to conservatism that he even causes wingnuts in Canada to froth at the mouth at the mention of his name.

Color me surprised….NOT!
Wolf Street: Uber Confirms Horrendous Loss in 2016
“Cementing its place as the most heavily-lossmaking private company in the history of Silicon Valley.”

On Good Friday, when markets were closed and when the entire financial world was tuned out, and when certainly no one was supposed to pay attention, Uber, the most highly valued - at $62.5 billion - and the most scandal plagued tech startup in the world, took the until now unprecedented step of disclosing its audited revenues and losses for the fourth quarter and for the full year of 2016.

Rumors of ballooning losses for 2016 had been swirling since last summer. Bloomberg reported in August that Uber had lost “at least $1.2 billion” in the first half. In December, Uber’s loss in Q3 was said to “exceed $800 million,” according to Bloomberg, and its annual loss “may hit $3 billion.” Others chimed in as some of Uber’s dozens of investors who’re getting its financial statements share them in dribs and drabs with the media.

But on Friday, Uber itself disclosed that it lost $2.8 billion before interest, tax, depreciation, and employee stock options - the latter likely being a big chunk, as the earnings of publicly traded companies that award stock-based compensation, such as Twitter, regularly show. Translated into a net loss, including the expense for stock-based compensation? Dizzying. But Uber wisely didn’t disclose it.

The Financial Times, which reported this disclosure, mused that Uber is “cementing its place as the most heavily-lossmaking private company in the history of Silicon Valley.”

A good point but I’ve seen other protests turn into police riots with very little provocation. There’s also a disconnect between the fearlessness I’ve seen in leftist protestors when confronting police vs an unwillingness today to really fuck up the alt right neo nazis. I don’t think this is a new status quo however, but will instead devolve further. If the cops don’t demonstrate a readiness to really step in then the future will see the unstable elements on both sides feeling an increasing mandate to show up armed for real battle.

So I managed to miss the news about Berkeley demonstrations, and wandered through downtown Berkeley while it was going on. Guess what — I was about a block away from the “epicenter” of the downtown demonstration and I didn’t.notice.anything.

A bit later, I walked right through the said epicenter, and there were some crowds (the “antifa” types). The Trumpists were apparently at Civic Center, about two blocks away. There was a line of police (face shields, no riot gear) blocking the route between the groups, and a group of backup police about a block away. I saw about 10 cops on motorcycles heading toward the area as I departed. No violence seen. (I understand that there were about 13 arrests.) Groups of normal weekend walkers (including me) were walking along Shattuck Avenue, where the antifas were gathered.

To add to the atmosphere, there was a Jews for Jesus guy standing near the BART entrance, conducting business as usual.

Another block along, on the lawn at the campus west entrance, the Indonesian Students Association was holding a do, with food for sale and a traditional musical group performing. Except for the helicopter overhead, no signs of trouble.

As one tweeter put it “If they had a popularity contest in Berkeley, a black hole would open right in the middle of Civic Center Park.” blow-by-blow, kind of

Have to say, they weren’t equpped for a police riot today — face masks, but no body armor or shields. This isn’t 60’s era Berkeley either. (In today’s case, my choice would be to stand well back and let the anarchists and the fascists have at it. A sweeping majority of Berkeley would agree with me.)

If the cops don’t demonstrate a readiness to really step in then the future will see the unstable elements on both sides feeling an increasing mandate to show up armed for real battle.

I know exactly what you mean. It only takes one well placed bottle or beatdown. I had joked earlier about give me 3 cases of empty litre wine bottles and a 2 or 3 story roof and I would light that campfire….What I saw with my eyes was posing and talking shit. BUT, this does give the ratfuck nazis a little more juice. The cops. IMHO, just sussed out the scene and laid back.

At the Market Basket today the woman in front of me said to the cashier: “Happy Easter.” The cashier said back to her “Happy Easter.” Then she went on a rant: “Last year I said ‘Merry Christmas’ every time I came here and no one said it back to me; you can say ‘Happy Easter’ but not ‘Merry Christmas’: What the hell!?”

(In today’s case, my choice would be to stand well back and let the anarchists and the fascists have at it. A sweeping majority of Berkeley would agree with me.)

As much as the Black Bloc anarchists piss me off they’re a minor irritant compared to the real existential danger posed by nazis who have been empowered by government. I think it’s dangerous to look at these assholes and simply think of them as ridiculous clowns. What they represent is deeply terrifying.

And as a reminder from north of the border, Lauren Southern was too insane for Ezra Levant. To translate that to American, that’s like being too bigoted for David Duke.

I also think it’s a huge s—t—r—e—t—c—h to call her a “journalist.”

I agree in principle, but this lot, demonstrating in Berkeley, certainly wasn’t empowered by any government. And the Black Block anarchists did about $500,000 in damage the last time they turned up at a Berkeley demonstration. A plague on both their houses, I say.

How can Jimmy Carter be a Real Christian in today’s America? After all, he talked on the record about his religion, and didn’t even use the word “hate” even once!

Looks like gay porn. “Full Battle Mode” starring “Milkman Mike the Human Hose”…”He blew my Spartan Headpiece clean off!”

If any of those losers have ever had sex, a girlfriend, a date any kind of close encounter of the human kind, I would be greatly suprises.

Remembering that report about racist Klan affiliates infiltrating law enforcement and I have to wonder if a stand down order wasn’t issued in Berkeley today. Granted Shane’s reporting is just one man’s interpretation of events, but it does seem like the police stood back and did nothing.

According to Shane….I saw more shots of the same meatheads over and over, and if it was a street fight, how come I saw no real fighting? It was a display of Trump supporters showing that they are Nazi and worse. Like a field trip to the shallow end of the pool. Lots of posing. Talking smack. A nothing burger. “They held the center.” OFFS…

I was thinking if they push their crap too far they may start getting met with people that do not like fascist/racist thinking. Some of the dudes from the nearby cities (Oakland, Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto) may decide next demonstration they are going to be there to protect the lefty types and answer the challenge.

I hate violence. But it seems this country is heading for some bad stuff as we know who is in charge and how the police have been reacting to civil unrest.

And at the same time Trump is acting all tough on places like Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea, Mexico. I guess it all goes together in this political climate. Push until it pops.

I removed the Uber app from my phone earlier this year after the reports of how women engineers were treated. I frankly hope it goes up in smoke.

The march in Berkeley, if I read it correctly was a Free Speech Poo Flinging Clodfest. And the clods showed up.

A mere spitting match. And yes, it will escalate, because what are lunatics to do? I would place money on a few guys sitting there thinking, “Hmmm. I want to go meet Mr. Spartan and make him really drink a lot of milk…

Dry tinder, high winds, a spark and out come the gas cans..

Actually, the shallow end of the gene pool reaches 30 and can still only attract high school girls.

Girls being the operative word here.
