“I didn’t feel that the Wasatch backcountry community was very welcoming to me. There were a lot of times when I would ask to go out with certain people or parties and they would tell me I couldn’t come because the objective was too gnarly—it was a boys day,” she recalls. “I wouldn’t be able to do it. Very few people invited me to do these objectives with them. I had to learn to lead my own party and recruit my own partners. And I think that’s one of the biggest hurdles women face in the outdoors, they are not invited in. They have to force their inclusion to these sports and these cultures.”

Instagram

Yesterday, I finished my project to ski all the lines in “The Chuting Gallery,” a steep skiing guidebook to the Wasatch by @straightchuter. To my knowledge, I am the fourth person and first woman to complete the project.

I remember when I first laid eyes on the book. I was 16 years old, I had no backcountry experience. A year before, my half-brother died in an avalanche on one of the lines. This book terrified me. I was drawn it to ways that I cannot fully explain.
It took me over a decade to get my skills to the level where I could imagine tackling these objectives. There was so much to learn – avalanche forecasting, trad and ice climbing, not to mention getting my fitness to the level where I still had gas in the tank to ski after hours of steep mountain climbing. Each line provided a distinct challenge.

I had to put it all together on Ciochetti’s Ribbon. Surprisingly, this was one of the most difficult lines in the book. As the author writes, it is highly condition dependent. The high snow levels created very steep conditions, and the abnormally warm mid-March temperatures metamorphosed the snow even on the highest north facing aspects. The pro is marginal, and cracks were heavily loaded with snow and ice. It was a full on alpine experience with skis.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have patience with these types of endeavors and to wait for the right days. As a wise man (climber and coach Scott Johnston) once told me, “Alpinism is a dangerous game and the learning process is very slow and risky. One of the most valuable lessons you can learn as an alpinist is when to back off. The mountains will always be there. You can come back to them when you are better prepared but not if you’re dead.” Huge thanks to all my partners and sponsors throughout the project. And to @straightchuter @noah_j_howell and @tetonsandwasatch (the 1-3rd people to do it) for providing inspiration. Stay tuned for a film about it next fall with @ducttapethenbeer, @acpictures and @rei!!! Photo: @rob.lea

Lindsey is badass, but not like Caroline. Caroline could take Lindsey to some of the lines she’s skied and scare the living shit out of her.

That, and ski racing and ski mountaineering are two wholly different worlds.

The attitude of some of the French voters seems eerily like Bernie Bros — according to Huff Post: “I am staying home. The game is over, Macron is president already. I have no job. Macron, Le Pen, all the same,” Fahrid, a 37-year-old voter told Reuters. Fahrid said he would not vote in the second round.

In this case, of course, the far left candidate refused to endorse Macron. The far left and far right are all fans of Putin, but then the Communists and Nazis allied to start WWII

“native-born Americans just aren’t willing to work that hard,” says one farmer in critical response to crackdown on undocumented workers.

So how was it that black slaves came to be imported to America? Because the white settlers weren’t willing to work that hard.

They could not get Native Americans to do the work, they would just run off and return to their people, so the white settlers, who found it easier to be cruel than to put in that sort of backbreaking work, just imported people who were not in a position to run away and threatened them with violence if they did not work without wages.

GOP fucking math.

Any way you try to parse that aforementioned statement, it works.

GOP is fucking math. GOP doesn’t understand math. GOP playing games with math.

It’s exasperating. Sessions and other GOPers (and their media enablers) are trying to make this about Democrats?

Nope.

Just nope.

Democrats aren’t part of this process as the GOP keeps telling us about their control of Congress. They are in the minority in both House and Senate. They don’t have the numbers.

The GOP is running the shit show, and they’re showing anyone who cares that the GOP doesn’t care about governing or legislating. The GOP is only interested in tearing down government, gutting safety net programs and the entire social structure of government going back to the New Deal, all so that rich folks get bigger tax cuts.

Everyone else would get royally fucked, and Trump supporters are cheering loudest for this bullshit.

So, if the government shuts down (and brings the economic chaos that it did the last time Ted Cruz led a shutdown - then to kill Obamacare, now to build a wall the border states are realizing they don’t actually want), it’s entirely on the GOP.

It’s entirely on Trump, Ryan, and McConnell.

Oh, and just hours after Earth Day, Trump’s already aiming to gut national monument protections for areas that Obama preserved.

Why? Money. Trump thinks that mining/oil drilling will make more money that preserving these lands would (which isn’t actually true, since tourism to these preserved lands can generate more wealth for those local residents and areas than mining can).

Um… actually, the reasoning behind black slaves (at least in Spain’s colonies) was because the Native Americans were hit hard by mumps, measles, smallpox, the flu, and other European diseases. Too many of them just plain died. Otherwise, they would have been the slaves and nobody would have gone to the trouble of capturing and transporting shiploads of Africans.

In the case of individuals, I can at least begin to accept the notion that it can be seen as part of their family heritage and tradition.

But remember: no Confederate battle flag ever flew over a state capitol until the 1960’s. Confederates used the Stars and Bars. The battle flags were put up to remind all those pesky civil rights advocates and uppity Negroes who was really in charge.

THANK YOU!

My poor dogs (1st was the 6 yr old grand champion, now the 9 year old golden rescue, but the 1 year old golden doodle rescue seems fine) have been vomiting over the weekend - but otherwise they act normal. Went to the vet and they have no idea why they are vomiting. I’m going to have to investigate this further. We assumed it was the food but couldn’t find any recall information on our brand. But who knows - maybe the recall will happen this week.

Except in Brazil: where enough slaves ran off into the wilds to end up forming their own state. A pretty-well organized one, too, which lasted about 90 years, until the Portuguese finally had to suppress it with a considerable military campaign.

The younger does eat the same food - and there was vomit I cant exactly say wasn’t hers (as we were out of the house - we only assumed it was the one that vomited in front of us earlier). So me saying the puppy didn’t vomit may not be 100% correct. Also the puppy easily is larger than the other dogs (that golden doodle is like 3/4 poodle and is a head taller than the others).. so maybe something about size there (also our older dogs seen to have much more sensitive stomachs).

We’ve been buying Kirkland (CostCO) food - the Salmon and Sweat Potato formula and its been great for them for over the last 9 months to a year. I did call CostCO and they said they don’t have any recall on the food.

AP: You’ve talked a little bit about the way that you’ve brought some business skills into the office. Is there anything from your business background that just doesn’t translate into the presidency, that just simply is not applicable to this job?

TRUMP: Well in business, you don’t necessarily need heart, whereas here, almost everything affects people. So if you’re talking about health care — you have health care in business but you’re trying to just negotiate a good price on health care, et cetera, et cetera. You’re providing health. This is (unintelligible). Here, everything, pretty much everything you do in government, involves heart, whereas in business, most things don’t involve heart.

The White House is the enemy of the nation. Period. There’s no other way to describe this.

The President is elected to work for the nation, not to loot it for his personal profits. He’s hired cronies and corrupt and compromised people, and all they do is lie.

That anyone is admitting that this admin lies about everything is crazy enough, but this is still more proof that the GOP should not be allowed anywhere near elected office ever again for what they’re now putting the nation through.

But Trump doesn’t care about the truth. The Wall helped get him elected and he will lose support from his based if he abandons this ridiculous project.

When returning home from the Saturday March, I showed some blue collar workers who were traveling on the same train my sign which included “Fund Science not the Wall”.

You have to remember that French Muslims (as Fahrid in the article) are in a different spot compared to American Muslims: they are victims of systematic discrimination and rampant Islamophobia. All but one have been known to engage in Islamophobic dog-whistles, hence why they believe there’s no use in voting when the same exists regardless.

Even if you’re a secular Muslim who drinks the finest wines available, that’s no guarantee of being immune from Islamophobia either.

You might take them off their food for a few days and feed them chicken and rice. See if it clears up. If you start them on their food again and it repeats, you know the culprit.

Ivanka steals her designs from others in the first place, so it makes sense to relabel them so people can buy them. And sending them to discount stores increases the odds that some articles will show up at Trump rallies…the evening blouse tucked into denim look is especially fetching.

You might take them off their food for a few days and feed them chicken and rice. See if it clears up. If you start them on their food again and it repeats, you know the culprit.

Please be careful. Not to disparage the brand, but I lost my Sheltie to poisoned food thinking I was feeding him the best available that he’d been eating for several years.

Sorry to hear about your dog - my first dog was a collie/sheltie mix.

Yeah - they starting having chicken and rice yesterday. Sadly the 9 year old vomited that up shortly there after. The other two haven’t vomited since. We made enough chicken and rice to hold them over for about 4 days. After that is gone we will attempt to have them eat the food again and will see what will happen.

Also the yard was fertilized last Monday… they didnt start vomiting till Friday… so that is likely not the issue as well. We are a bit at a loss but we have doggie insurance so at least we will have the medical side covered if it comes to it.

More experience with humans than with dogs on this, but make sure they stay hydrated.

We have 3 water bowls (2 inside with about 5 gallons of water. One outside that is about a gallon (and the dogs prefer inside during the day anyway). Of course one of our dogs drinks about a gallon at a time (has since my wife got him as a pup and has been checked for diabetes etc and it all comes back normal - the dog is just a water hog and apparently loves to pee).

After any of the dogs vomit we taken then to the water bowl and tap it (which they will then usually drink a bit).

I personally am just tired of cleaning vomit - thank dog we bought the nice animal friendly carpet cleaner. Its saving my carpet one puke at a time.

Animated gifs can be resized, but you would need either Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks to do it. There might be other programs too, try a web search. It can be done, though it can be a bit tricky.

I believe a tourist boycott of the Maldives needs to be implemented if their ascendancy towards Salafism continues here:

MALÉ, Maldives — A liberal blogger who wrote satirical critiques of the Maldivian government and the spread of radical Islam died Sunday after being stabbed in the stairway of his apartment building.

The blogger, Yameen Rasheed, 29, had complained repeatedly to the police about receiving death threats, he said in an interview with The New York Times this year, adding that the police often failed to return his calls or dropped his complaints without investigation.

“In my case, I get multiple kinds of death threats from different people, because I write and do the campaign,” he said. Mr. Rasheed was a coordinator of a campaign to find his friend Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla, a journalist for The Maldives Independent who was abducted in 2014.

The police said that Mr. Rasheed was found with multiple stab wounds in his apartment building in the capital, Malé, shortly before 3 a.m. He was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and died soon after.

God…this would have been a perfect shout out question to Trump - “Sir, do you want to comment on the 102nd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide?”

Trump would have said something along the lines of, “Awful, awful what those Armenians did to those poor people, genociding like that.” Or, “Terrible, terrible what happened.” and then gotten an angry call from Erdogan.
