Regarding the Flynn dust-up. He got a security clearance in 2016 from the Obama admin. That would have been after Obama kicked him to the curb in 2014 and after his working with foreign connections.

So, did Obama national security miss it, or were they already familiar with his deception and allowed him to do the paperwork for the approval for continued security clearance? That would mean they knew he would lie on the forms, but it was not critical at the time because he had no government job.

If all that is true, that would hint to me they may have known he was going to work with Trump and they allowed Trump to take in a criminal. Info that could be used further…like now.

Am I getting too far in the weeds??? Some of this is suspect to me. I’m thinking I need more info and a complete timeline.

Charles, there’s something weird about this page that makes it behave different than the previous page in my browser, IE inside Invincea (at work, can’t change). On this page, I cannot click any of the buttons for updinging or replying to a comment, and the comment area isn’t resizable. I also don’t get any of the notifications that tell me there are new comments. And when I post this comment, I will be taken to the home page for the site.

I don’t have this issue in the previous thread.

I’ve seen this happen before, but today was the first time I noticed that it’s different between pages.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Federal agents descended on the North Texas headquarters of television evangelist Benny Hinn and took boxes out of the offices.

The search began about 9 a.m. Wednesday at Hinn’s headquarters in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine, near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. According to Hinn’s website, he was in Paris.

Lisa Slimak, spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Dallas, said she was unable to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation. A message sent to Bennie Hinn Ministries went unanswered.

That’s pretty easy. A mild version of the story runs like this:

Obama gets in office in 2008 and is confronted with the reality that the US is a plutocracy and that actually doing something about the big banks is difficult/impossible. So nothing much is done, relatively weak reforms are passed through Congress, and Obama will personally do well out of the whole affair, both in prior Wall Street campaign donations and likely future rewards on the speaking circuit.

The more lurid and ridiculous versions of this story paint Obama as a mustache-twirling villain indistinguishable from a Republican.

Whether or not one believes in any version of this story, the underlying issue of opposing US plutocracy is real, and one of the weaknesses of the Democratic party is the lack of a decent answer to this problem.

Personally I don’t think Obama is a sell-out on the banks issue, but the lack of hearings, investigations and prosecutions vs. the banks makes this more of an act of faith than it should be.

Especially when they’re silent as churchmice on “big money” donations to far-left groups (*cough a couple million from the GOP to The Young Turks cough*) or the personal wealth of their savior (*cough three houses cough*) and have a long standing issue of being a predominantly white group that seems to think economic cures will fix everything.

We see this again. And again. And again. And again. It’s like clockwork. And for what? Nothing is pure enough for them. I agree that the idea that economic cures will fix everything is garbage.

However, the fact remains that the political structure of the US is that of a plutocracy rapidly consolidating its power. Economically, globalization and automation proceed apace, and just about everyone who has to work for a living is getting squeezed by that with no end in sight.

What’s the Democratic party plan for dealing with plutocracy, globalization and automation? IMO there needs to be at least one big bold proposal (e.g., living wage) to get people’s interest — small tweaks to the current system can rightly be dismissed as inadequate on their face.

My beef is not with the big dollar amount by itself. Its that this payment is coming from the banking sector which successfully evaded their collective responsibility for the 2008 crash and great recession.

I don’t like having my faith that Obama is not a sellout to the big banks tested so directly.

Jane Sanders appears to be under FBI investigation for her role in the financial fraud at the root of the failure of Burlington College.

Jane Sanders, wife of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., overstated donation amounts in a bank application for a $6.7 million loan the college used to purchase a prime 33-acre property on Lake Champlain in 2010.

She told People’s United Bank in 2010 that the college had $2.6 million in pledged donations to support the purchase of the former Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington property.

The college, however, received only $676,000 in actual donations from 2010 through 2014, according to figures provided by Burlington College.

Two people whose pledges are listed as confirmed in the loan agreement told VTDigger that their personal financial records show their pledges were overstated. Neither was aware the pledges were used to secure the loan.

Jane Sanders did not respond to a request for comment Thursday asking whether she was subpoenaed or otherwise contacted by the FBI or the U.S. attorney in relation to her time as president of the college.

I have a few quibbles here.

1. The banking sector doesn’t bare sole responsibility for the crash
2. Not all institutions included in the banking sector were equally culpable for the crash
3. I guarantee you that Obama is going to accept a lot of money in speaking fees from the banking industry and that said industry is also going to be a big contributor to his presidential library, his charitable efforts and his efforts to combat voter disenfranchisement.

Here’s the thing about the financial crash - Nobody’s hands are clean.

- Homebuyers took on loans they could not reasonably expect to pay back.
- Homeowners used the equity in their houses to borrow money for all sorts of shit.
- Mortgage brokers wrote loans to people who couldn’t pay them.
- Investment banks bought those loans and asked for more, providing a market for shit.
- They waved mathematical magic wands they didn’t understand over them to divide shit into gold, silver, and bronze, and then sold them to investors.
- Rating agencies, unable to understand what they were rating, accepted the banks’ word
- Investors, including pension funds, bought bonds they should have known were shit, and clamored for more.
- Everyone thought they were covered because they’d bought Credit Default Swaps as insurance.
- Government, on a bipartisan basis, did nothing, and luminaries like Alan Greenspan told them a nationwide housing bubble was impossible.

Everyone operated under the assumption that ‘They wouldn’t let you do it if it was dangerous’, only there WAS NO ‘THEY’ to stop them. So, sure, blame the evil bankers, but just remember how far that blame goes.

All very true. But it is also fair to note that the massive personal fortunes made by inflating the bubble prior to the crash were made almost entirely by some of the evil bankers.

No real attempt was made to account for that, and that is how we know who really rules the US.

Beyond taking their money for a speech, how is President Obama a “sell out” to the banks?

Well, there’s this, much trumpeted by the BoBers:

The Most Important WikiLeaks Revelation Isn’t About Hillary Clinton

Michael Froman, who is now U.S. trade representative but at the time was an executive at Citigroup, wrote an email to Podesta on October 6, 2008, with the subject “Lists.” Froman used a Citigroup email address. He attached three documents: a list of women for top administration jobs, a list of non-white candidates, and a sample outline of 31 cabinet-level positions and who would fill them. “The lists will continue to grow,” Froman wrote to Podesta, “but these are the names to date that seem to be coming up as recommended by various sources for senior level jobs.”

This, of course, was naturally spun into “Citigroup chose Obama’s cabinet and all his policies!”

Obama’s getting paid for speeches?

Where’s my fainting couch.

He could take in $400,000 a speech? Alrighty then. Sounds like a pretty good gig. That’s capitalism and all that. Good for him.

That’d also be in the top tax rate and unless he donates the money to charitable causes, it’ll get taxed at the top tax rate, which is… 39.6%.

Now compare that with Trump and his tax plan. Trump’s pushing to cut his taxes by more than half - his tax plan specifically would reduce his passthrough income by more than half; eliminate the AMT, and the estate tax.

So, which one do you think people should get upset about.

Yeah, me neither.

Oh, a few folks are complaining Obama that he shouldn’t speak to banks or certain groups, but again what is he doing with the money is his own business.

We don’t hear much of GWB and the speeches he gives. And he gives plenty of speeches and makes quite a bit of coin in the process. Yeah, we’re on Obama double standard time again.

People seriously need to recalibrate their outrage for where it actually matters, and on what matters.

Obama giving speeches isn’t it. That’s not in the ballpark. That’s not even in the same fucking universe (yeah, there’s that cursing thing). Trump. That’s the entire game.

Eyes on the prize. Eyes on the prize.

To also be fair, you can also blame Phil Gramm and Bill Clinton for the following atocities:

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
Commodities Futures Modernization Act
Repeal of Glass-Steagall

The above three broke the very firewalls meant to protect the casino side of finance from the rock of Gilbraltar side of finance and amplified the crises that much worse. Combined with ignoring the warnings of Sheila Bair, the stage was set.

And when you throw in Shrub’s Iraq war folly, which took away resources from dealing with financial crimes and focusing them on terrorism. well, what the fuck could you expect-all sweetness and light?

Interesting Times  Apr 27, 2017 • 6:08:36pm

Here’s the thing (and bear with me, please, as it might be kind of rambly…)

One of the things that disturbed me most about the 2016 election results was the overwhelming feeling that I should have seen it coming but didn’t. Granted, hindsight 20/20 and all that, but nonetheless, there were plenty of signs that perhaps we all either played down or denied altogether (by “we” I mean most of those hoping for a Clinton win and thinking no way would enough Americans be dumb/racist/awful enough to vote trump)

Many people say (and some of them, especially both-siderists, add a hefty dose of condescending smugness to the argument) that you have to listen to people you disagree with to avoid getting caught in your own echo-chamber (hence the ad nauseam parade of trump-supporter puff pieces).

That’s true to a point - I have no need to “listen” to reactionary wingnuts, GOPers, and the hardcore deplorables because I’m already familiar with the lies, gaslighting, and outright denial of reality. There’s nothing new to learn and no hope whatsoever of changing their minds.

However, the Bernie-or-Bust crowd is a different story. I started reading a lot of material from them post November, mainly as a result…

4DZ53XmnokXinQOdM/VZzzAdOeAsC8SMiBPwDIZ1Vc68m5bO3H+5U39z/8QaNcgiDVNcomiIvfN+tDjAxlQikjRtWkn60hSWObglddDHviuSDjv70X74HBj0KTTHslN5yU7uSl65wtskKBFkcQYfvP8902uCgjrsextch/j0/VxjfsKO/9LAW+Xd+Y8nGv3dBnR6uxfNHeJsv+U7nuDTb25vqWp8D0qu+a2WLig1XbaF/AYYS1TZf3UUrxd20CBeCdXbDdV5TUO4ArT91Ucnmbnj2rcdjyENIn84NyKYvM7mVvX4ndDZZelSRGADXIknc4EiGVJ/Sd3SGvogrFSpxJ1/0ICmvsNeS8EGIakL8fU6aWc9df1CNf1RqAeD8q/GOtlt2y+LVshY1S9SUIN8ayrcsunCu6vkffR3ovmTgKrfBwunlYFIm+JXt122RmHQJ9hHRUHIYzkzmXTerLuilw==

So what’s my point? Again, there’s no hope of changing the deplorable/GOP base, so don’t even try. But the BoBers are in a much better position to:

a) depress morale among those likely to vote Dem
b) perpetuate “they’re all bad so why bother” voter apathy
c) come up with some arguments that, unlike those of GOPers, actually are based in reality

This is why I feel it’s important to be aware of what they’re saying and figure out how to address the concerns that are legitimate and refute the ones that aren’t.

That said, here’s a piece I read today that I know you’re all going to hate, but like I said above, it’s important to be aware of this mindset because failure to properly address it could jeopardize any chance of a Democratic comeback (you know how Charles always pushes back against extremists in the face of “you should ignore them and not give them attention” protests? It’s like that.)

So how do you address that mindset while producing a candidate that is acceptable to the majority of American voters, some of whom are not the loony left?

How do you deal with someone who looks at a nuanced, real human being, that does a lot of good (not all, but a lot!) and dismisses them as a corporate shill? The world is not fucking black and white. REALITY IS NOT FUCKING BLACK AND WHITE. But people like that are completely unwilling to compromise and instead look down from their high horses like they’ve magically held on to some mystical superior moral ground because they didn’t sully their hands with voting for someone less principled than them.

There is no magical pure candidate who is going to win these people, and as we’ve seen over the past several weeks (view the fallout over the whole Unity tour bit), catering to those who are setting the purity bar higher than is remotely possible does a lot to piss off the base that actually shows up to vote.

And that’s even before we get into the giant racial blind spot that these people have.

You know, those who are always claiming to be “holier than thou.” If Fox axes Shine, Hannity, Watters, and the other blowhards, it will be a yuuuge blow to their most dedicated viewers. Forget that we’ve been trying to tell them that the network is full of BS for years. They bought the BS and might now end up with feces covering their entire bodies. As far as I’m concerned, they brought this on themselves because they’re too lazy to research any issue/matter. Sometimes there’s a penalty to be paid for being too lazy to the point where you “rent” your brain out to dishonest, unethical, self-interested characters who only use you to increase the size of their bank accounts.

A lot of what we’re seeing in regard to some Americans” perceptions about POC and women is jealousy. Redistributing income isn’t really challenging the plutocracy. The plutocrats are still the rulers, even if they end up being taxed a bit more.

I’d like to see some kind of economic reform that leads to a system where these obscene accumulations of wealth and power don’t form in the first place. I can’t even imagine what this would be like, or how we could get from here to there politically.

But I am sure the present system cannot continue along a path of ‘business as usual’ where that is ever-increasing concentration of wealth and power for the rulers.

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean when I say *some* BoB arguments are based in reality. There was also an excellent point brought up earlier by KGxvi:

In the 80s, during my childhood, “liberal” became a dirty word, or at least a smear. Democrats, for whatever reason, rather than trying to defend themselves and their ideology/positions, decided to run away from the word. Instead they took up the mantle of “progressive” or a variety of other labels. They acted like they were ashamed of what they believed in. And people don’t want to vote for someone that’s ashamed of their beliefs.

THAT’S what it boils down to and why I always harp on “messaging.” Especially in this social-media/reality-tv-driven culture where, sadly, “optics” and “entertainment” matter more than practical reality.

Extreme BoBers aside, I think a lot of what drove Bernie’s popularity was that he was perceived as a fearless and unashamed voice of progressivism (whether that’s backed up by pesky details like voting record etc. is beside the point - remember, we’re talking about the distracted-by-shiny-objects perception-driven voters who make up what’s left of the “swing” vote :/ )

The totally unacceptable outcome of the 2008 crash (i.e., no real accountability for the banks) has left me permanently irritated with the banking sector. I wouldn’t have commented at all on Obama’s $400K speaking engagement except that its going to be at a Wall Street investment bank.

I understand that and you have a point. Trying not to be an ass here, but as Klys pointed out, Obama is pretty much done with running for office. Is he supposed to run any future speaking engagements past the Democratic party in order to maintain purity for future candidates?

Oh FFS, would you be happier if he were speaking to Greenpeace or PETA or the Innocence Project for $400 K? He’s going to talk to these movers and shakers—and yes, sinners—about health care and how he thinks they can do things better in this and other fields of endeavor. Even Jesus didn’t preach only to the pure of soul. (True, JC didn’t pull down loads of money for a sermon either, but then he never got elected president or anything else.) re: #241 Interesting Times

It was earlier than that — during the late sixties, in fact. Fed by frustration at the war (if you want a quick summary, see Phil Ochs’ song, Love Me, I’m a Liberal). Basically, liberals were attacked from the left for not being radical enough. Since we know what comes of being too activist, it should be possible to counter this.

Have bankers ever been considered totally on the up and up? I can’t say I ever saw them that way.

I always saw them as degrees of necessary evil. The small town banks were all gobbled up by regional banks and many of them have been gobbled up by larger national banks. So it has gone from the people you know to people you will never see.

And like all big business the larger they get the more they tend to gloss over the little guy individual for the big hit.

I guess when it comes to money I really have a level of distrust as a default setting.

No. On the other hand, Obama has many options. How difficult would it be for him to avoid, at least for a while, the one kind of venue most likely to send some fraction of the party into orbit?

“He’s a black man who isn’t holding himself to this moral standard that was made up just for him by a bunch of white people.”

It has always been this way for Black Americans. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of GA in 1974. At the high school from which I retired, some of my colleagues had also received their undergraduate degrees from UGA, but they never minded letting me know that UGA “gave” me my diploma. A lot of what we’re seeing in regard some Americans” perceptions about POC and women is jealousy. They’re trying to figure out how some of us have reached the levels of achievement that we’ve reached. Some who hear that most college graduates and those receiving advanced degrees are women don’t want to believe it even though it’s true.

Sadly, it’s just that too large group of bigots who think no black person could possibly have come by this honestly. (Like your famous designer purse.) Where I live, you won’t hear that spoken aloud very often, but I’m sure it’s still around. Even here.

Trump thinks he could bomb North Korea and people would love him for it.

He also fails to understand how much it would piss off other countries.

Can’t help but wonder if Putin is pulling the strings on this one.

i think he hopes people love him for it.

I wonder if he is tossing his whole office into being a hardass against North Korea? He may already be at the point he thinks (or is being advised) this could be the thing that makes America swoon for The Trump. Everyone knows he is a huge attention seeker and he may be thinking what better way.

I hope not because that is stupid and dangerous. Sadly we already know he can be very stupid. This may be the first time he could be extremely dangerous. He sure isn’t the character to make you think he can handle that type of decision based on his being stupid.

Then, he conned his way into the Presidency and he may be thinking he can con North Korea, so he may think he doesn’t need to get to the dangerous level and he can pull this off. But conning a crazy dictator could be dangerous.

Uh oh.

But I am sure the present system cannot continue along a path of ‘business as usual’ where that is ever-increasing concentration of wealth and power for the rulers.

Actually, in an abstract sense, I’m wondering if that’s true any more.

Human history has always been one of concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few, and the societal controls that allow the powerful to keep their power. It used to be religion, slavery, then feudalism, and so forth. The cycle of history has always been one of increasing concentration of power until there is a correction, a revolution of sorts, or an enlightenment such as the Renaissance.

But we’re at a point in history where the societal controls are reaching a point where no such correction may be possible. The ease and availability of mass media allows essentially your entire populace to become easily controlled with bread and circuses, especially the circuses. Furthermore, the disparity of force now wielded by the powerful (ie. a modern army is so far advanced beyond the capability of the populace to revolt) makes any sort of revolution essentially impossible.

He’s speaking at Cantor Fitzgerald’s healthcare conference.

Cantor Fitzgerald, you know, the company everybody felt such compassion for after 9/11, and a company that puts at least some of its money where its mouth is.

The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund provided $10 million to families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Howard Lutnick and the Relief Fund “adopted” 19 elementary schools in impacted areas, distributing $1,000 prepaid debit cards to each family from the schools. In total $10 million in funds were given to families affected by the storm.

Two days after the 2013 Moore tornado struck Moore, Oklahoma, killing 24 people and injuring hundreds, Howard Lutnick pledged to donate $2 million to families affected by the tornado. The donation was given out in the form of $1,000 debit cards given out to area families.

Each year, on September 11, Cantor Fitzgerald and its affiliate BGC Partners donate 100% of their revenue to charitable causes on their annual Charity Day which was originally established to raise money to assist the families of Cantor employees who died in the World Trade Center attacks. Since its inception, Charity Day has raised $110 million for charities globally.

No. Fuck that. They have a right to speak, they do not have a right to be heard. I may not have it in me to actually perform physical assault upon them, but while the First Amendment may protect their speech, I don’t have to. They can all go eat a bag of dicks.

I was a Republican for more than half my life. Even more troubling.

Guys, “Republican” was a respectable choice through the ‘70’s at least. They started along the path to insanity after the Civil Rights Act (and the terrible choice the party made at that time), and Obama pushed them to the point of no return.

I guess he should only speak at future unicorn and pony conventions.

Exactly. And around 95% of that quarter are die-hard GOPer deplorables who would pull the lever for a literal pile of turds with a loudspeaker on top that blurted “durr hurr I hate libruls” on repeat.

That means Dems have to increase turnout among the non-voters and the suppressed voters to win. There are bound to be at least some strategies to help accomplish that.

Obviously not, because the optics of doing so are “bad.” No, we instead need to give the Nazis an open podium up on the stage and treat them as if they are offering a legitimate argument rather than pure lunacy. When they’re blathering about “race traitors” and the “impure,” we’re supposed to nod our heads and then try to act as if they’re not barking mad. That, we’re assured by “serious” folks, will show that Nazism is wrong and “reasonable” people will recognize such and condemn the Nazis.

Like these descriptions of everyone’s favorite Nazi:

Spencer is a favorite of the mainstream press, which has written a flood of trend pieces about his fascist-inspired haircut, “dapper” dress, “millennial élan,” and “prom king good looks.” The Huffington Post wrote that Spencer’s face was reminiscent of “Ryan Gosling.”

As of the December 2016 article:

The New York Times has lavished Spencer with attention, mentioning him at least 11 times in the past two months. Often it has given him space to present his tiny movement as mainstream and normal.

It doesn’t really matter what Obama says. This is one of those shitty optics things, and the pundits are apparently having a field day with it.

Which freakin pundits? The ones who claimed he was trying to take over the schools when he counseled kids to graduate? Or the ones who told us over and over during the campaign what a scandal HRC’s emails were? At least on this site, you seem to be just about the only person so deeply concerned about how horrible these “optics” are. It’s true I’m due for eye surgery soon, but I’m not seeing this huge problem. All I’m seeing is the same “pundits” who’ve been howling for years that Obama is either (a) Satan incarnate or (b) not a knight pure and perfect in shining armor and riding a pure white horse to redeem the world.

My wife and I were out when the veterinarian called. She wanted us to call right back, but we did not get home until well after the clinic was closed.

She is once again concerned for Felix’s condition, and will call first thing in the morning, according to the message. (She knows I sleep mostly in the day and reserves calls for the late afternoon, so if she says she will call first thing in the morning I expect that is not good.)

My wife and I have discussed the issue about our eight-year-old cat this evening. We have arrived at the opinion that perhaps we are asking the veterinarian involved in his care the wrong question.

Perhaps the question should be, “If this was your beloved pet, with your medical knowledge, what would you do?”

He’s sh*tt*ng all over the planet and calling it “WINNING,” and his sycophants are lapping it up and repeating it, and so are some journalists.

re: #386 Barefoot Grin

It really isn’t good for my sleep habits to check in here at night. I go to sleep angry; then I wake up at 3AM knowing that the cards were stacked against me economically and that now another deck of cards has been added to the stack. I openly give the finger to [the back windows of] the many cars with Trump stickers around this town. Maybe nothing will happen, but I doubt it. The “trickle-down” assholes are out in full force.

I wake up every morning to WTF now? And I’m always rewarded.

My mental health is a shitshow, along with all of you.

Thanks to everyone here for the kind posts about Felix Randomkitty to my wife and me.

I hope things will improve, but we’re prepared to hear the worst. It would appear that throwing money at this didn’t help much, but we’ll see.

Now, if only we could get them to agree to postpone voting on it until after the first 1460 days.

Sometimes you don’t know. Sometimes the comfort you can take is that you did what you could, instead of simply giving up at the first sign of trouble.

I hope the news tomorrow is good or barring that, the decisions clear.

And probably at least some reading here but dammit. Arts and crafts.

I’ll post pictures.

“Death penalty states that apply lethal injection have for all intents and purposes run out of poison.”

My wish is that European drug manufacturers who have warned them not to use their products in executions would stop selling them in America. They made exceptions on those drugs for patient care only to discover that officials in Arkansas’s prison system used back-door sources to obtain the drugs.

Well, this Korea mess goes back to yesterday. dtrump managed to round up all his Senate Serfs and have them meet at his castle. dtrump and his staff gave the serfs all the lowdown on the “Korea Problem”. Since dtrump isn’t the sharpest tack in the box, he now probably believes just because he met with the Senate Serfs he now has permission to do what he wants with the 2 Korea’s. You know, that “advise” stuff.

Oh, and now it looks like a chance for USA Inc to make a profit.

I’m not old enough to have that excuse. The last time I voted (R) in a presidential election was in 2000. At least that was in CA where this error didn’t matter.

the last time I voted R was Dole ‘96. The cynical and depraved thirst for power in evidence during the Clinton impeachment put me off the R party forever.
I’ve always been a registered Independent/no party person.

Shiplord Kirel has offered his death penalty fix here a number of times, and I happen to think it’s a good idea. Each member of the jury and the judge hold a lanyard which is attached to a guillotine blade. Every lanyard must be pulled or the condemned lives and serves a life sentence for their crimes.

There are people who would genuinely suffer without access to those drugs. Anymouse has certainly talked about his medication.

There aren’t good answers here, beyond the obvious of prosecuting officials who use backdoor sources, but I’m not sure under what grounds you’d be able to do so or if you could find a prosecutor willing to do so in those states. (It shouldn’t be difficult but I suspect it would be.)

If you’re on a jury and you sentence a person to death, you should be required to witness the death and if convenient be a part of the killing.

At the very beginning of Barack Obama’s presidency, several states used my epilepsy medication (Phenobarbital) as an execution drug.

The EU responded by banning its manufacturer (Lundbeck, in Denmark) from selling the medication to the USA.

The medication is used for a few tens of thousands of us for whom no other drug will work, and widely used to stop a condition called status epilepticus (continuous, fatal seizures) brought on by epilepsy, head injury, diseases, &c.

President Obama made a humanitarian appeal to the EU to reconsider, and the EU responded by requiring anyone living in a death penalty state to sign an affidavit stating they would not sell or give the drug to state prisons or other such facilities.

I suspect that with the drying up of death penalty drugs, conservative states will again turn to Phenobarbital. It has a proven track record with the Nazis in Aktion T4, which is part of the reason they used it for the death penalty. The therapeutic dosage is very close to the lethal dosage.

Romantic Heretic had an even better idea:

Should the death penalty be returned to Canada I will lobby to have the method of execution be a pistol bullet in the back of the head and that the position of executioner be filled by conscription. Any person eligible to vote could receive a letter that reads, “On this date you will report to this prison by this time where you will execute this person.”

The bullet is because it’s messy and personal so people can’t kid themselves about what they’ve done.

Conscription is so that people have to do their own killing. No hiding behind other people.

“My mental health is a shitshow, along with all of you.”

I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 1995 and have been on several anti-depressants since then. My latest med is Pristiq. I had a doctor’s appointment today and informed my him that the Pristiq is no longer working and neither is the Lunesta he prescribed to help me get some much-needed rest. He gave me about a month’s worth of samples of Trintellix to try. I’m going to try it, and see if it helps. If it doesn’t, I don’t know what my next step will be in dealing with my depression. I do know, though, that it got worse after Trump was elected POTUS. On a conscious level, I try not to worry about the next dumb thing he will say/do, but I know at a subconscious level, the answer to that question never really leaves my mind. I’m trying to complete the remodeling on my home. I’ve ordered new furnishings, blinds, lamps, and other things, but I don’t have the motivation to hang new curtains, put new mattresses in place, hang new mirrors, put up a new door-sized storage rack, a new rack for pots and pans and do lots and lots of other things that sorely need doing. After I complete these tasks, I need to use my Bissell to clean my tile floors in different areas of the house. I bought the machine over a year ago, and it’s still in the box. I’ve been doing the floors using a spin mop system, but I can’t keep doing that because of back and hip problems.

On second thought, if this scenario were ever attempted in the US, it would be turned into a twisted reality tv show, be YUUUGE in the ratings, and filled with sneering, gloating audience members in “fuck your feelings” T-shirts shouting “Kill! Kill! Kill!” at reluctant executioner conscripts :/

Not far from the truth. High profile executions in Texas regularly attract celebratory mobs who get as close to the prison as possible to hoot, screech, wave frying pans (a legacy of electric chair times), and hold up various disgusting signs.
