Our Tantrum-Throwing Man-Baby in Chief Calls for a Government Shutdown

Complains that our system of government is “archaic” and needs to be turned into a dictatorship
Politics • Views: 36,326

Things are not going well for Pumpkin Pinochet these days, and he’s getting very frustrated at his inability to simply bring new laws and budget deals into existence by his sheer force of will as God Emperor of the United States.

Lately he’s been whining to the media (while simultaneously bashing them as “fake news”) that our current system of government is “archaic” and something needs to be done so he can get anything he wants as soon as he wants it.

And today he took this even a step further, complaining on Twitter that he couldn’t get his ridiculous “budget” passed without making a deal with Senate Democrats, suggesting we should “change the rules,” and concluding with a call for a government shutdown!

During past threats by Republicans to shut down the government if they didn’t get their way, the president has been a voice of reason calling for responsibility from Congress. But now we have a reckless tantrum-throwing man-baby in charge of the United States who’s right there yelling for a shutdown with the craziest Tea Partiers.

How could a shutdown be good, with parks closed, gov’t services unavailable and people furloughed? Answer: Golf at Mar-a-lago unaffected.

Exactly.

No skin off his fat ass, we’re still paying the ‘A’ ticket for his goddamn ride.

Government doesn’t work like business —things are harder to get done for a reason. Our government is specifically designed that way. Checks and Balances — Separation of Church and State, State’s Rights … .

Streamlining it would tear apart a system designed to be generic enough for everyone to prosper and find contentment.

For those that have problems, we have a safety-net. We offer public education and somewhat public healthcare to give each person the best possible chance at success.

WE’d like to do more, but too many want to eliminate competition (other people’s chances for success). They talk out of one side of their mouth saying that wealth is limitless, while thinking that opportunity is a zero-sum game.

Mostly, they want to decide which individuals and groups are considered “people”. Women are always eliminated from consideration.

Funny, when’s the last time the GOP nominated anyone pro-choice? And honestly I was at a Town Hall the other night when a man who introduced himself as a pro-life Democrat didn’t get shouted down at all. Tom disagreed with him but he was respectful. I find nothing wrong with the Democratic Party being staunchly pro-choice. And I’m sick of the GOP who increasingly fields candidates who oppose abortion in all circumstances acting like we’re being “intolerant.” Dude, you are the ones who want to force ultrasounds on women getting a legal medical procedure, shut the fuck up.

GOP’s “Internet Freedom Act” permanently guts net neutrality authority

ISPs would gain the freedom to block and throttle websites and applications.

These fuckers.

Nine Republican US senators yesterday submitted legislation that would prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from ever again using the regulatory authority that allowed the commission to impose net neutrality rules. The “Restoring Internet Freedom Act” would prohibit the FCC from classifying ISPs as common carriers under Title II of the Communications Act and “from imposing certain regulations on providers of such service.”

The Internet “is threatened by the Federal Communications Commission’s 2015 Open Internet Order, which would put federal bureaucrats in charge of engineering the Internet’s infrastructure,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). said in an announcement yesterday. “That is why I am introducing the Restoring Internet Freedom Act, which would nullify [the] Open Internet Order and prohibit the FCC from issuing a similar rule in the future.”

Lee’s bill was co-sponsored by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), and James Inhofe (R-Ok.). In the announcement, Cruz repeated his charge that net neutrality is “Obamacare for the Internet.”

The full bill text isn’t available yet, but it appears to be identical to another one proposed last year. That bill would have prohibited the FCC from issuing a new net neutrality rule “unless the rule is specifically authorized by a law enacted after enactment of this Act.” There was also an “Internet Freedom Act” to wipe out net neutrality rules in 2015.

See, this is how it works.

Amid outrage and tumbling stocks, Mylan’s chairman pocketed $97M

CEO Heather Bresch got a pay cut, though—only $13.8M in 2016 down from $18.9M in 2015.

Last year, furor over the skyrocketing price of Mylan’s life-saving EpiPens hit a fever pitch. Lawmakers seethed, parents broke into tears at pharmacy counters, regulators opened investigations, competitors raced to come up with cheaper alternatives, and Mylan’s stock tumbled 29 percent.

Nevertheless, Mylan chairman, Robert Coury received compensation of $97.6 million in 2016. And that doesn’t include an additional $66.3 million in other retirement benefits and payments that Coury received last year as part of a transition from executive chairman to a “non-employee chairman role.” Coury will continue to receive a $1.8 million per year “cash retainer” as part of a deal made with Mylan last year.

DT knows that he can shut down the government, blame it on the minority party and get away with it. So he will. And a majority of his supporters will believe what he tells them.

When does it stop mattering whether or not his dimwitted supporters believe everything Trump says? At some point in time, this won’t matter as his actions have severe consequences for his party and the country.

I assume that George W. Bush had his hardcore supporters until it became obvious that his policies had caused horrendous damage both here and abroad. Bush was so toxic by the time he left office that he hasn’t even been allowed to attend RNC conventions.

The attorney for the now-closed beer stores in Whiteclay, Nebr. (population 12) is mulling filing a civil rights lawsuit against Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts (R).

I wasn’t aware that you had a civil right to own a beer store to bootleg beer across the state line, but whatever.

Andy Snyder, a Scottsbluff attorney who represents the four stores, also filed a request on Monday asking a judge to dismiss 22 pending citations against the beer stores that include allegations of selling to bootleggers.

The citations, filed by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office in March, have not yet been set for a hearing before the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission but could be taken up in June.

Snyder said the citations are now “moot” because the stores are closed, and asked that they be dismissed.

Tom Perriello, the gubertorial candidate I’m working for as part of his stump speech talks about a mother who works two jobs at Dulles Airport and just wants to be able to spend time with her kids. It’s all about what kind of America you want to live in - one where whether or not you have healthcare is entirely a function of your wealth and most families are one major illness away from financial ruin; or one in which we all pitch in, knowing that neither we nor our children are immune from devastating illness or injury.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning lifted the contempt order against her, saying he was satisfied that deputies were fulfilling their obligation to grant licenses to same-sex couples in her absence. Bunning, however, warned Davis that if she interfered she would be in violation of the court order and would face sanctions.

The state legislature ultimately passed a law that removed county clerks’ names from licenses. A district judge ruled this satisfied Ermold and Moore’s lawsuit and dismissed the case. But they appealed, saying they wanted Davis to pay damages.

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday the case could continue.

Of course they aren’t. I was just trying out an argument for those, like Walsh, who are lacking in both of those fine qualities. Paying into a health (or any other) insurance fund is a selfish, as in self-preserving, act ultimately. At least it is to those who aren’t morons who don’t understand how the system works.

Due to the high number of uninsured drivers on the road, many states require drivers to carry at least uninsured motorist coverage, if not both uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Yup. I’ve always had uninsured motorists insurance, and far above the minimum required in any state I was in.

Back in 2011, when Gov. Mary Fallin of Oklahoma pushed the state legislature to require anyone with any sort of medical condition whatsoever to get an annual screening by specialists concerned (that was the thing that prompted my wife and me to leave Oklahoma because it would have cost us in excess of $10,000 a year in medical care not covered by Tricare), the uninsured/unlicensed driver count shot through the roof.

Specialist physicians were pleased at the new business (they were the ones pushing for that). I was given one month to make ten specialist appointments. It was cheaper to move (even though we lost money on our house).

That may be true. But the more people who come to the realization that Trump might be barking mad, the more people who would take individual action (calling representatives, etc.) to stop a lot of his agenda.

That’s why Trumpcare was smothered in its crib by his own party. People made sure to let them know that they were pissed about what was being floated and Congress members saw the potential for them to lose their sweet government gigs.

Activism against this president is already at a higher level than we’ve seen since the run-up to W’s war. You don’t think planting the idea in people’s heads that the president may not be mentally capable of doing his job will affect anything?

The Veterans Choice Program was set up to try to relieve some overcrowding at VA facilities and travel time to them, by allowing veterans to go to a private doctor if they live more than forty miles from the nearest VA facility.

It requires you call a telephone number in advance (except in an emergency) to get permission for the VA to pay a private medical bill.

It would appear someone is running a scam by publicising a fake number:

Uninsured Motorist Coverage Recommended for Bicyclists

The Law Office of Daniel H. Rose strongly recommends to all California bicyclists that they purchase, as part of their car or motorcycle insurance policy, high limits of uninsured motorist (UM) coverage in case they are ever injured by a motorist.

Sadly, it is often the case that a bicyclist is seriously injured by either (1) a motorist who has no insurance; (2) a motorist who has very little insurance (the minimum required by California law is only $15K in bodily injury liability insurance); or (3) a motorist the identity of whom is unknown, such as a hit-and-run driver.

In any of these circumstances, under California law, the bicyclist’s uninsured motorist coverage would cover their injuries and damages over and above the driver’s insurance. The same applies to a pedestrian injured by a motorist.

Trump preparing to sign a likely-unconstitutional executive order on “religious liberty” (the right to discriminate).

More at The Hill:

President Trump has reportedly invited conservative leaders to visit the White House on Thursday for the signing of an executive order on religious liberty.

Politico reported Tuesday that two senior administration officials confirmed the plan. One source noted that the language of the order has not yet been finalized by the White House lawyers, but a draft leaked in February would give businesses and individuals the ability to claim broad religious objections.

The Trump administration has been under fire since, with critics arguing that it would allow discrimination against the LGBT community.

Following the initial leak, Vice President Pence and his team have reportedly worked on rewriting the language of the document.

One conservative source familiar with the new text, however, told Politico that the language is still “very, very strong.”

The potential signing of the executive order would also coincide with the National Day of Prayer.

WASHINGTON —

Ivanka Trump’s first foray into self-help writing came in 2009 with “The Trump Card,” a breezy compilation of workplace advice, stories about her dealmaker dad and a hefty dose of celebrity namedropping.

But in her second book, released Tuesday, Trump has gone from sassy to serious.

“Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules for Success” offers earnest advice for women on advancing in the workplace, balancing family and professional life and seeking personal fulfilment. She is donating the proceeds to charity and has opted not to do any publicity to avoid any suggestion that she is improperly using her White House platform.

The entire article is a “rah-rah” Ivanka is an empowering voice for women article. There’s more of this drivel at VOA, now part of the Trump Organization, Inc.

re: #225 makeitstop

One encouraging sign I’m seeing this week is a real uptick in quotes questioning Trump’s mental state.

We should feed that talking point by any means necessary. Now that Squint and the Meat Puppet have openly talked about it and it’s being mentioned on sites like Politico, it’s a point that could peel back even more of Man-Baby’s already-thin support.

I’ve noticed the same. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion the media held off for the first hundred days milestone (or as much as they could with the madness), just to be “fair”. Since Saturday the optics and tone seem to have a shift to the incredulous. CNN especially seem to decided on sniggering at the madness. Quite clever, rather than fire and brimstone as they seem to be pushing his buttons quietly.

I believe that over the last 3-4 days, Trump gave a series of interviews that amounted to pointing a Browning .50 cal. at his feet and blazing away - and that was when he wasn’t blathering incoherently.

And remember, in that same loveletter article:

By inserting herself into a scalding set of gender dynamics, she is becoming a proxy for dashed dreams of a female presidency

Projectile vomiting may now commence.

Sorry Jimmy Kimmel: your sad story doesn’t obligate me or anybody else to pay for somebody else’s health care.

But listen to this sob-story outrage about this person who was hurt by Obamacare…..

He really is a pathetic asshole isn’t he. Fuck off Joe.

re: #127 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

He is nonetheless the spokesman for a large chunk of the US electorate, the very people who helped put DT into the WH

So we have a large chunk of the US electorate that are assholes. Got it.

We’ve reached peak Chauncy Gardner with this article.

If you haven’t seen Being There where they read profound things into a well dressed mentally disabled person I highly recommend it now. Peter Sellers was a genius.

I’d say the most important - and depressing - lesson of this election was that there are far more stupid, gullible idiots in America than I’d have believed.

That pic of Ivanka illustrates what I said here about her looking like Eric in drag.

Same stupid mouth.

And since the first time I saw you make that comment I cannot help but think that when I see images of her.

Gee thanks! : )

Gah!

That image should be hidden in a private tag. It is not safe viewing for normal individuals.

re: #20 HappyWarrior

Gerald Ford and his whole family were outspokenly pro-choice. He was the 1976 nominee.

All the GOP nominees since then have called themselves pro-life (although GHWB had always been pro-choice, probably still was, and had to grit his teeth to pander to the antis).

But all these “pro-life” GOP nominees… all of their wives and daughters made a point of giving interviews in which they said that they were pro-choice.
