Photo of the Day: Trump and House Republicans Celebrate Destroying Health Care for Millions

Rotten old white bastards gloating
Politics • Views: 37,306

Credit: Carlos Barria/Reuters

Today the Republicans in the House of Representatives forced through one of the most vicious and heartless pieces of legislation in modern history, the AHCA: a bill that will strip health care away from millions of Americans, jack up the price of premiums enormously for those who can still get it, and remove guarantees for people with pre-existing conditions. Oh and before I forget — it will also help the Trump gang give a trillion dollar tax cut to the wealthiest Americans. Including… Donald Trump.

Not a single Democrat voted for this horrible bill, and it still needs to pass the Senate to become law so this isn’t a victory for the rotten Republicans, not just yet. Nonetheless, after voting to pass this monstrosity, the House Republicans jaunted over to the White House where they celebrated and gloated in the faces of all the Americans they just screwed.

This photograph by Carlos Barria of Reuters will live in infamy, and haunt the Republican Party for the rest of time.

FFS, he hired an outside consulting group to survey State personnel…

“…In an effort to understand how the wheels turn at the State Department, and how they can spin more smoothly, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is surveying its 75,000 employees worldwide with an online questionnaire.

The questionnaire focuses on how to streamline internal processes and get the employees the tools they need so that the department can best fulfill its mission. It requests six words from every employee to help them “build a word cloud” to describe that mission. …”

Reposted from downstairs, because, like CL of blessed memory, I spent a long time on it and hit ‘Post It’ after everyone else was upstairs:

All last year:
Trump: I’ll replace Obamacare with something that covers more people, with lower premiums and less out of pocket, and better care for everyone!

Last month:
Ryan: Here’s our Obamacare replacement bill, Mr. President!

Trump: Great! Does it cover more people, with lower premiums and less out of pocket, and better care for everyone?

Ryan: Not even close! In fact, just the reverse!

Trump: Great! Let’s pass it!

CBO: This bill will fuck millions of people!

HFC: This doesn’t fuck enough people hard enough!!

Ryan: Okay, let’s fuck those people, then.

Moderates: Now it fucks too many people too hard!

Trump and Ryan: Aw, fuck it. We give up.

This week
Ryan: Hey, you remember that bill we had that didn’t do anything you promised?

Trump: Yeah.

Ryan: We made it EVEN LESS like what you promised!

Trump: Great! Let’s pass it!

HFC: This bill fucks lots and lots of people, especially poor and sick people! FINALLY, something we can vote for!

Moderates: But now it REALLY fucks too many people!

Ryan: Okay, what if we set aside far too little money as a pretense that we care?

Moderates: Yeah, that’ll do it. Let’s vote!

House GOP: FUCK YOU, POOR, SICK AND OLD PEOPLE!

Trump: This is great! Can I sign it?

Senate: Yeah….no. Not like THIS.

It might be an interesting question to ask Trump voters, whether they actually care what’s in the AHCA, or will they just support it because Trump does, even if their insurance costs triple?

We need to have non-fascists elected in Europe for many reasons. One of the simplest is that if we end up with WWIII being fascists vs. non-fascists we need to have some nations being the good guys. God knows the US won’t do that until Republicans are out of power.

Just sent this email to Rep Ted Budd

You unspeakable bastard.

I would refer to you as whale feces, but at least they serve a useful biological purpose that you lack.

I might envision you as an ambulatory, crab infested merkin, but that would be an insult to the whores throughout history who used such a prosthetic for professional purposes.

You’re a tick.

You suck blood from the whole and healthy, and spread misery and disease in turn. You’re a parasite that toadies to the donor class that wanted their trillion dollar tax cut…at the expense of the health care for the rest of us.

Well played, Sir….and well payed too, I imagine. You got your 30 pieces of blood silver for betraying all of the rest of us. If there is hell, I dearly hope your sojourn will be instructive.

Regardless, at least revolutionary France had expedient means to deal with parasites. As much as you may deserve your space next to Robespierre and St. Just in the tumbrel to be “kissed on the neck” by Mme Guillotine, we in the present have other options, if slower, to excise your carcass from the skin of the body politic.

Get used to seeing us when you come home. We will be at your meetings to shout you down. We will remind you who you swore to serve and protect. We will remind you that you betrayed the people you you swore to. We will be in your offices to remind your staff they work for a fool and a liar, and that they have to live here with the rest of us even when you are in DC.

We aren’t going away, Ted. But sooner than you think, you will.

I think they will support it because Trump does right on up to the time their insurance costs triple and they get less.

Maybe. But the GOP has a much smaller margin for error in the Senate; they can only afford to lose two votes. And we still don’t know if the Senate Parliamentarian will allow the bill to proceed through reconciliation.

Under the Budget Act of 1974 (which governs reconciliation), the vice president can overrule the parliamentarian and has purview over what does and does not qualify under reconciliation. Like much of what the GOP has done in recent weeks to ram their agenda through, it hasn’t been done in decades (not since 1975), but Trump is so dependent on a “win” at this point that he’ll send out Pence to ram through the bill.

We live in a climate where a social media mob mentality arises in the event of something really bad, or a PR disaster takes place. The GOP managed to do both today. And this is effectively a death sentence for many people just for an obscene tax cut for the uber-rich.

Anger, fear and resentment abound, and the GOP doesn’t care what you or I think. When private info can be doxxed, this could deteriorate into the utterly unthinkable.

Well. Three pounds of ground meat have turned into 9 meals worth of meatloaf now setting in the freezer before I stick it into vacuum sealed bags. I have the quinoa made for the egg muffins but haven’t moved any further on those yet. The marinara sauce is also sitting and staring at me, waiting for me to start.

The problem is I have a limited amount of available freezer space for stuff to sit on as it freezes. I can stick the meatloaf in the upper drawer for a bit while the other stuff freezes but the marinara has to be absolutely flat. Blargh. I really want a chest freezer but I have nowhere to put one.

In addition to the assault — can I just point out that some of the blame for her death also has to go to the 23 Aug ambulance crew and the 28 Aug hospital staff.

On the day of the assault, 23 August 2016, (snip)
Ms Machin called emergency services while the defendants were still in the house and in the 999 call she can be heard crying out in pain and saying: “They smashed my head up.”
Both defendants can also be heard shouting aggressively to Ms Machin before they leave.
Police and paramedics attended but it was not felt necessary for her to go to hospital.

She continued experiencing severe pain and was eventually taken to hospital on 28 August, but her injuries were regarded as not requiring emergency treatment.
However, the rib fractures caused 1.9 litres of blood to gradually accumulate around her heart, which stopped working.
Mr Harbage said she died “alone and in pain, with significant breathing difficulties” at her home on the weekend of 3 and 4 September.

With no defections, the GOP could pass this crapwich and it becomes law.

The Senate will make a show of doing things differently, but in the end, it’s still likely that Obamacare gets gutted thanks to the GOP and Trump. Millions stand to lose coverage and access to care.

The GOP owns all of this - but how to make them pay for it. It starts with the elections this year, but it also means putting up candidates in the districts where Democrats can and should pick up seats. All districts need to be challenged.

I just posted the following on my Facebook:

Okay, let’s leave aside for a second our actual feelings on the American Health Care Act and its merits or lack thereof. I want to make a simple statement: The House of Representatives voted on this bill without a CBO score. That is to say, they blindly voted for this bill with no independent verification or auditing, without caring to have all the facts in hand, simply because they wanted it. I ask you, is this responsible governance? Is this really the way we want to run our country - completely by the seat of our elected officials’ pants, most of which are on fire? This is reckless. This is irresponsible. This needs to stop. Leave aside your personal feelings on the bill itself, and stop and think about the process that led to its approval by the House. Everything about the current trend of governance (Left and Right) has been about hurrying up, vote from your gut, don’t stop to think about the logic or the ramifications. This is counter to the idea of an informed electorate. Please, as Americans, we need to come together and stop the madness. Slow it down and think it through.

He gets to watch the US economy implode as Trump and GOP gut health care coverage for millions and redistribute wealth to the rich from everyone else (the only natural order the GOP agrees on).

In addition to the assault — can I just point out that some of the blame for her death also has to go to the 23 Aug ambulance crew and the 28 Aug hospital staff.

That reminded me of the young lady (14) that was hit by a hockey puck at a Columbus Blue Jackets game back in 2003. When she was taken to the hospital she initially had a seizure and was admitted with tests, etc. The next day she was released but the docs at Children’s Hospital missed a torn artery. A day later she lost consciousness and died.

Death of Brittanie Cecil - Wikipedia

It led to a lawsuit and settlement with Children’s Hospital here in Columbus. It also led to a lawsuit with the NHL who I think settled and then put netting up in all (most) arenas at the ends by the goals.

I’m sending postcards to the entire MN house delegation. A thank you to the democrats, and this message to the republicans:

Congratulations. You will forever be associated with voting to strip millions of Americans of affordable health insurance in order to provide a tax break for millionaires. You put it out there for everyone to see. People will die needlessly if the AHCA becomes law. More people will die because of the AHCA than died on 9/11, and you just helped make this possible.

Isn’t it odd how the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of feral capitalism in the US coincide so perfectly?

The GOP apparently sees nothing wrong with making all of that old communist propaganda about capitalism in the US true.

That wasn’t an accident. During the Cold War, the US went out of its way to show capitalism was better, and sometimes did some things Adam Smith recommended to make it work. After the Cold War that attitude was no longer needed.

People who natter on about “states rights” can fuck off and die. It has been raised as a real issue in US history three times, all for odious causes:

1) The civil war

2) Jim Crow

3) GOP sabotage of the ACA at the state level.

I’ll admit that’s largely true, but with cannabis still Schedule I, it’s also the reason that the California, Colorado, Washington, Nevada and Oregon economies have been strengthening even in a time of nationwide stagnancy.

Though that still doesn’t make up for the other 3.

[Green:] “The Second Amendment, while it allows citizens to protect themselves from other citizens, goes well beyond just allowing us to defend ourselves from a criminal,” Green said at a pro-gun rally in 2013.
“The men who penned and ratified this document gave us the right to keep and bear arms as an ultimate checks and balances against the federal government,” he added. “When considering magazine size and weapon type, comments like, ‘You don’t need a 10-round magazine to hunt deer’ completely misses the point of the Second Amendment.”

[gun fetishist:]Anyone who actually reads the works of the Founding Fathers would not doubt for a single second that the common arms of the modern military—semi-automatic pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, general purpose machine guns, anti-tank weapons, artillery, armed armored vehicles, and yes, private navies—are expressly the kind of weapons that they wanted American citizens to own to guard against government tyranny.

Posts are flying against my conservative FB friends, accusing them of voting for these peoples’ deaths - and how can I disagree? It’s legit what happened. Democratic fatcats like FDR and the Kennedys, and even pre-Reagan Republicans, understood a cold fact to which today’s Republicans are utterly oblivious: It is a bad idea to live in wealth and luxury while working people starve, die of preventable diseases, and live in refrigerator crates. RWNJ propaganda has done a good job of conning the marks but it’s very risky, a potentially fatal hubris, to assume that you can fool them indefinitely.

Oh, please. Look at Southern election results before the 1960s. The racist chickens voted for white Colonel Sanderses again and again and again, never even considering any other course of action. Franklin gets right to the point. It protects “Christian” organizations.

Churchian is the word I coined a few days ago for such douchecanoes. You don’t have to use it, but I hope you like it.

re: #85 Timothy Watson

I don’t think I have to worry about Kaine and Warner.

And, sad to say, calling Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott is a total waste of time.

I remember it well.

When millions of conservatives who voted for Trump and the GOP in the 2016 Elections loses their healthcare or their insurance skyrocketed, will they blame the Republicans? No, they will blame it on the “illegals,” and double down their support for the GOP in the 2018 Elections.
