Senate GOP rejects House Obamacare bill
Any bill that has been posted less than 24 hours … needs to be viewed with suspicion,’ Sen. Lindsey Graham says.

Almost all of those provisions worry many members in the more moderate upper chamber. Senate Republicans are considering staunching the coverage losses projected under the House by altering the Medicaid repeal, making tax credits more generous and strengthening protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“There will be no artificial deadlines in the Senate. We’ll move with a sense of urgency but we won’t stop until we think we have it right.” said Alexander, who will be a leading figure in the Senate’s overhaul effort.

My Senator, The Only PHd in Science in the House.

Foster Statement on Passage of American Health Care Act
May 4, 2017 Press Release
Washington D.C. - I was proud to cast my vote against the American Health Care Act. This is the 65th time Republicans have voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but now we know what their replacement looks like. It would be an unmitigated disaster for hardworking Americans across this country. The Congressional Budget Office determined that under the original AHCA, 24 million Americans would lose their health insurance. A recent report by the Center for American Progress found that it would destroy nearly two million jobs. It would also slash Medicaid funding, threatening to take away access to treatment for an estimated 1.3 million Americans who suffer from opioid and heroin addiction. The current version was not even scored because the Republican Leadership rushed it to a vote before the CBO could evaluate an amendment added late last night that opens the door for states to gut preexisting condition protections and allow insurance companies to sell plans that don’t cover doctors’ visits, hospital stays or prescription drugs.

The passage of this bill is a tragic symbolic victory; it stands no chance in the Senate. Republicans had an obligation from day one to inform the American people of this legislation’s contents. Instead, they chose to craft it behind closed doors with no transparency for the people they were elected to serve. For seven years, Republicans promised us something better than the Affordable Care Act. In the end, this plan revealed these promises were simply not true. I urge the people that are going to be hurt by this bill to make their voices known as it makes its way through the Senate.

10-Year-Old Girl Bullied About Her Dark Skin Launches a T-Shirt Line

Colorism has been a part of the African-American culture since the beginning of time. Dark skin is often frowned upon while lighter skin is glamorized. Thankfully we are entering a new day and age where beautiful dark and brown skin is being appreciated more.

10-year-old Kheris Rodgers experienced colorism when she was bullied at school for her dark skin tone. Many times Rodgers was teased by her classmates and teachers.

She told BuzzFeed News that during a class exercise years ago in grade school her teacher asked students to draw themselves, then handed her a black crayon.

Rodgers response was, “I’m not that dark….I’m brown”. Rodgers mom thankfully took her out of that school but the bullying persisted no matter what school she attended.

In efforts to lift up her little sister’s spirits, Rodgers older sister Taylor took matters into her own hands in late march by styling and dressing Rodgers for a Wiz-inspired fashion show. She shared photos on Twitter, writing: “My sister is only 10, but already royalty,” with hashtag #FlexinInHerComplexion.

The Kids are Alright.

Quite frankly, it will take people paying attention to whom they’re fucking voting for. So many people press the (R) or (D) button because of habit or family loyalty or abortion white American Jesus, without thinking about the actual issues or where they stand or where that specific person actually lands on the political spectrum. Senators, having a larger voting bloc to pull from, I feel have a safer career arc than House Representatives. A representative can be easily voted out by a short-term shift in a fickle voting district, but a senator commands the votes of half of his or her state, drawing on a much broader support base, making it more difficult to unseat him or her.

The enemy of the state is not the GOP, despite all evidence to the contrary. The true enemy is FOX, and the hate cult media that has enthralled 62 million of your fellow Americans, and will only continue to grow. America no longer values decency, morality and justice, because so many of its citizens are now completely addled by hate. They cannot be reasoned with, convinced, or talked to. Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.)

“…said Thursday that he is open to repealing and replacing ObamaCare even as his party’s leadership demands that Republicans drop their effort to nix President Obama’s signature healthcare law.

“It needs to be improved. It hasn’t been improved. We can either work to improve that or repeal it and replace with something better. I’m open to either one,” Tester told Fox News, adding later he doesn’t support the plan passed by House Republicans on Thursday.

Tester, who is up for reelection in 2018 in a state won by President Trump, said that he doesn’t think lawmakers did enough to try to fix the Affordable Care Act since it was passed in 2010.

“There were plenty of mistakes made with the [Affordable Care Act], there’s no doubt about that,” he said. “Quite frankly, we didn’t make the modifications over the last six, seven years, for obvious reasons, to make that bill better.”…”

They can only be deprogrammed or marginalised. And I do not see either of those things happening.

The enemy of the state is not the GOP, despite all evidence to the contrary. America no longer values decency, morality and justice, because so many of its citizens are now completely addled by hate. They cannot be reasoned with, convinced, or talked to. They can only be deprogrammed or marginalised. And I do not see either of those things happening.

In an old Voyager episode last night, Chakotay was marooned on planet, “rescued” by a group of fighters, and brainwashed to hate their opponents. Even when he learned the truth at the end of the episode, he still felt hatred. There was some comment that once one hates, it’s hard to overcome those feelings. And that’s the evil that Fox, Limbaugh, and others have succeeded in inculcating into their audience

To be fair, Obama has said the same thing. He’d support repeal and replace as long as the replacement is something better.

Of course, the devil is in the details on that.

The thing is, it’s hard to improve on Obamacare simply because it’s hard to improve US health care in general. That being said, an incremental improvement is not out of the realm of possibility, it’s just Drumpf refusing to admit that Obama got at least part of it right.

Actually it’s not impossible — many countries have accomplished this: adopt single payer. If Trump supported that, he could succeed in getting a better, cheaper, more inclusive health care program

Birth Control Works  May 4, 2017 • 8:38:50pm

VOCABULARY WORD OF THE DAY:

Platyhelminthes

n.The simplest animals that are bilaterally symmetrical and triploblastic (composed of three fundamental cell layers) are the Platyhelminthes, the flatworms. Flatworms have no body cavity other than the gut (and the smallest free-living forms may even lack that!) and lack an anus; the same pharyngeal opening both takes in food and expels waste. Because of the lack of any other body cavity, in larger flatworms the gut is often very highly branched in order to transport food to all parts of the body. The lack of a cavity also constrains flatworms to be flat; they must respire by diffusion, and no cell can be too far from the outside, making a flattened shape necessary.

Shoutout by Gizmondo to our esteemed host here in that article:

Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin recently wrote an article criticizing presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders and his quest for what she characterized as Venezuelan-style socialism. When The National Review originally posted the story, it included the image above — a dirtied up version of the original photo, which you can see below. But as the blog Little Green Footballs points out, the pic actually comes from a Walmart in Austin, Texas.
