(English)

if you cut the roots of the tree
it will never grow again
if you strip the sea of its water
the desert will find you
if you build your house with no foundation
it will not stand for long
if you fail to plant the seed
there will be no mango trees

if you judge the one in front
you will face judgement from the one behind
if you steal from your neighbor
one will steal from you
remember that you get what you give
and that when taunted
karma will find you

remember we are one

a reflection is hard to see
in troubled waters
if you don’t accept that we are one
we will never live in peace

Re post #4.

Obama’s barrage of complete sentences seen as brutal attack on Trump.

CHICAGO (The Borowitz Report)—In an appearance at the University of Chicago on Monday, former President Barack Obama unloaded a relentless barrage of complete sentences in what was widely seen as a brutal attack on his successor, Donald Trump.

Appearing at his first public event since leaving office, Obama fired off a punishing fusillade of grammatically correct sentences, the likes of which the American people have not heard from the White House since he departed.

“He totally restricted his speech to complete sentences,” Tracy Klugian, a student at the event, said. “It was the most vicious takedown of Trump I’d ever seen.”

“About five or six sentences in, I noticed that all of his sentences had both nouns and verbs in them,” Carol Foyler, another student, said. “I couldn’t believe he was going after Trump like that.”

Obama’s blistering deployment of complete sentences clearly got under the skin of their intended target, who, moments after the event, responded with an angry tweet: “Obama bad (or sick) guy. Failing. Sad!”

Same as it ever was…..

Dear Millenials: Here’s some rules about politics you may have not been taught in school that you need to understand:

(1) Politics is not a spectator event-you must participate (namely, vote) if you even want to stand a chance of making any change. If you don’t vote, you have zero reason to complain about whatever action the government takes that affects others—including you.

(2) The current politicians in office really don’t care about you as an individual-at all. That’s one reason why they have shafted you and your parents when it came to the whole Student Loan fiasco, while giving the profits to the for-profit educational system (Remember-privatize the profits, socialize the losses….)

I’m A Politician

(3) If you really want to make change, I’m afraid you cannot realy on your current set of Congresscritters to do it. No, Millenials, you are unfortunately going to have to pick up the political mantle from the current corrupted cronies in Congress, clean it up and run with it-and whether you like it or not, some of you will be forced into doing it away.

The mid-terms are coming up in 2018. So-what are you waiting for? What are you going to do to control your own groups destiny?

Think about it-but not too long. Too much time is being lost already.

re: #6 Birth Control Works

I predicted this a few weeks ago. I do believe two or three Federal/State Grand Juries may be meeting con-currently.

One very important issue to be thinking about: if, as it has been reported, upwards of 40 individuals are being investigated, then indictments of that many people will have a major impact on the operation of our government. Indictments may reach to the highest levels of the White House and Congress. The situation may be crippling.

I hope there’s plans being made for how to handle this situation.

I posted that same cartoon on FB back in 2014

There are 2 other suggestions that I would add
(4) Do not cast protest votes to express your displeasure with a candidate’s action when you believe that the candidate will win anyway; you may discover that protest votes will in fact affect the outcome of an election, and not in a way favorable to your cause
(5) No candidate is perfect. Don’t get sidetracked by third party candidates who will not win when a major party candidate is a much stronger reflection of your views on important issues.

Exactly - these people -_- The “Bernie woulda won” contingent claim that he could have captured these “fuck the system” voters as well. Impossible to prove or disprove that now, but it is something to keep in mind going forward (i.e. is it possible for Dems to peel away enough of these disgruntled crank-types where it counts? If so, how? It’s a question that needs to be addressed as long as ignorant, angry cranks are in the best position to decide US election outcomes)

All his RW opponent would have needed was the magic word “socialist.”

Absolutely that would’ve worked on the Fox crowd, but maybe the non-voters/3rd-party types would have actually liked it - “Yeah! Fuck the system! Let’s vote for a socialist!” And then you had the handful of BoB’ers who voted trump because they figured he’d wreck everything enough to bring about their revolution. So I don’t know. It’s obvious in hindsight that enough US voters were in the mood to do something crazy, but could that crazy have been harnessed as a force for good instead of evil? Again, I don’t know.

I’ve become so shocked and yet cynical at the state of the US electorate that I wouldn’t put anything past them (remember when I said earlier that a Le Pen-style “single-payer healthcare but for whites only” type would get a horrifically high percentage of the vote, especially in the South? I stand by that. Anti-socialist sentiment is actually code for “We should get stuff but those people shouldn’t.”)

Greetings all, we’re just back from Paso Robles where we did some wine blending. Fun, educational, and kind of too much wine. I don’t care how much you spit, a lot still seeps in.
Mr. C and I went with our son, daughter and son-in-law and a good time was had by all. We now each have a magnum of our own blend, which is problematic in that one has to get a bunch of people together to drink all this wine in a reasonable length of time, but if it really isn’t all that great, maybe one shouldn’t inflict it on others?

Anyway, the weekend was a nice break from ugly realities, and it was nice to get back and find that Le Pen lost in France.

We have to make sure these collaborators never live this down, like Charles Lindbergh and his cordial meetings with Hitler and Goering. I actually met Lindbergh at Edwards AFB in 1963. His image had benefited from a Cold War rehabilitation but World War II was still a recent memory for the senior AF types. His reception, though polite and respectful, had a decidedly chilly feel to it.

For those who missed John Oliver tonight, his main story was about net neutrality, and he encouraged everyone to leave comments at the FCC site. After showing all the gymnastics one would have to accomplish to get to the comment page, he announced that he’d bought the domain:

gofccyourself.com

which will take you directly to the comment page, bypassing all of the other crap. He recommends going there and saying we should keep the Title II regulations as they are now written and NOT change to having ISPs regulate themselves.

NOTE—I just tried it and apparently, like in 2014, Oliver has caused the FCC site to crash—I’ll keep trying.

Privatising the VA … predicted it was coming if wingnuts ever got in power.

Note this is to save $25 million. The Pentagon goes through that in about five minutes. And BRAC didn’t work the way he said it did.

pbs.org (more at PBS)

WASHINGTON — Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin says his department is seeking to close perhaps more than 1,100 VA facilities nationwide as it develops plans to allow more veterans to receive medical care in the private sector.

At a House hearing Wednesday, Shulkin said the VA had identified more than 430 vacant buildings and 735 that he described as underutilized, costing the federal government $25 million a year. He said the VA would work with Congress in prioritizing buildings for closure and was considering whether to follow a process the Pentagon had used in recent decades to decide which of its underused military bases to shutter, known as Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC.

$25m. How many golf trips for DT?

One?

That “seek care in the private sector” is BS passed out to voters who are not veterans.

The VA provides specialised medical care for injury incurred in military operations, and diseases not normally seen in US hospitals. Civilian hospitals by-and-large cannot provide the care or specialties needed for veterans.

The VA also provides programmes for low-income and homeless veterans, and convalescent care for elderly veterans. No profit in that part.

86
Anymouse  May 7, 2017 • 9:01:20pm

I’m not sure what “underutilised” means in the context of Shulkin’s statements … I’m guessing my VA clinic that’s only open a few days a week qualifies for that.

250 mile round trips to Cheyenne, then (assuming they don’t close that too).

I did, thanks. I had to retreat for a few days to grieve in private. I’m getting better as the days pass, but I don’t think I’ll ever have another four-legged baby quite like my Winston. We were a perfect fit. I took my baby nearly everywhere I went. He always rode shotgun.

I saw your original post several hours after you posted it. I can’t imagine. I just can’t.

We have six dogs and my heart absolutely broke for you. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

In time, the pain will recede and the sweet memories will be there, living on forever. Winston will always be with you.

And in time you’ll find another dog who needs a home and needs love and a needs place to lie his or her head, a dog who will never be Winston, but who will love you and you them.

I’ll keep you in my thoughts for a long time.

Somebody needs to remind them clearly and vocally (as they are not strong on reading) how black people came to be imported to America: to do the work that the white settlers were too lazy to do themselves. I haven’t seen “Time Enough at Last” since I was a little kid. I had to follow the link to recognize the episode, but instantly remembered it. Germany is kinda boring, but safe. And wages are higher and prices lower than most other European countries. People all along the French border come to Germany to buy their basic groceries.

And things have grown a lot less stodgy, I noticed a real change in society and attitudes after the 2006 World Soccer Cup. They showed the world that they could party as hardy as the rest of Europe, and in a tidy and well organized way.

And I am centrally located here on the Rhine near Mainz: I can be in France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland or the Czech Republic in less than three hours’ drive, the rest of Europe in just a bit more.

A student of mine had an anecdote; his company is a subsidiary of a German parent company. About 10 years ago, his German boss called; my student was at home, enjoying some fine spring weather and working on his motorcycle. His boss was curious as to why he was home, and not at the office, and when it was explained that May 8 is a state holiday here, he inquired as to which holiday it was.

My student was understandably reluctant to explain, though he did, of course. His German boss took it in stride.

Germany is not wanting for holidays: they just had May 1st, May 25 is a holiday in most of Germany (Ascension) as is June 5th (Pentecost) and then June 15 ( Corpus Christi, at least in the Catholic parts of Germany)

The Greens once faced a similar watershed, but the “realos” triumphed and they have since been regularly represented in Parliament and even in government.

Germany is not wanting for holidays: they just had May 1st, May 25 is a holiday in most of Germany (Ascension) as is June 5th (Pentecost) and then June 15 ( Corpus Christi, at least in the Catholic parts of Germany)

Always wondered why would they name a holiday after a Town in Texas.

And when is the Feast of St. Lubbock?

We need a US Holiday between President’s Day and Memorial Day. 14 weeks between holidays is too long. Jefferson’s Birthday is April 13th. Need to make that a holiday here!

Well. Given that Sally Yates was privy to this information for some time prior to meeting with Whitehouse Council and it hadn’t leaked up until then, my guess is that White House Council bares responsibility for it leaking, e.g. they either leaked it directly or the content was shared with or in the presence of someone who leaked it. You know loose lips sink dips and all that.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in NYC. Today’s gonna shape up to be one heck of a day for Trump. Sally Yates tesifies, and Trump’s already busy trying to deflect attention and jam the airwaves with his nonsensical ravings.

He’s already trying to claim that Flynn was a distant rogue who Obama gave security clearance to. Of course, Trump ignores that Obama Admin fired Flynn and Trump hired him almost immediately and put him on the VP short list and in key foreign policy/defense slot - NSA.

This admin leaks like a sieve. They’re undisciplined, ignorant, corrupt, and compromised. That’s just Trump and his kids. Everyone else is even worse, as Trump’s set up his admin like Survivor meets The Running Man. Everyone is backstabbing and trying to jockey for position/access and will say/do anything to get ahead, even if it means leaking classified info or undermining Trump.

And Trump just blithely continues as if there’s nothing wrong with any of this.

The GOP doesn’t care either - they’ve enabled this compromised regime and just want Trump to sign their burden shifting tax cut plans into law - rolling back decades of progress.

Good Morning Lizardfolk.

Things here are slowly better. It’s hard though. I miss my grandkids terribly (my daughter on the other hand, well, not so much. She hates me, but cannot give me a good reason for why), everyone is forbiden from talking to me. I miss my kitty cat (Al was 15 and died from kidney failure on April 5th, 5 days after the kids left) a lot too. So it’s been about 6 weeks since my daughter took her kids and left and we’re still sort of punch drunk. The hardest part is seeing other people enjoy their grandkids and I still have trouble with all the “grandma centered” crap in the stores, I feel like setting those displays on fire. I will never see those kids again, at least not before they are adults and decide they want to see me.

I’m still up to my eyeballs in work and chores and home repairs, so I don’t have time to do much more than read what Charles posts and then a quick skim of comments. And so I am off to catch up on chores and then gardening and yard work await. Sending hugs and birthday wishes and congratulations and whatever else applies. Much love to all of you.

I read a good (very good, actually; five stars) review of Alien: Covenant by Robbie Collin of The Telegraph. And I can say this line really makes me want to see it!

Is it science-fiction or horror? The fundamental difference between those two genres has always lain in their attitude towards the unknown - the former creeps unbidden through the door that swings ajar, the latter bars it with the heaviest furniture to hand - which means it’s both, at least initially. Though the full implications of its final sequence are so purely horrific that I left the cinema feeling (and I mean this in the best possible way) physically sick.

To want more Alien after this – specifically, this ending – would be to want to see something very odd indeed. But Covenant leaves the mythos feeling riper and more vitalised than ever.

Damn. Now I’m curious as hell!

This is true, and it is an unfortunate fact that 35% seems to be a benchmark throughout much of Europe for nationalist, nativist parties.

Trump was able to parley his initial 35% support into an electoral college win by exploiting a dysfunctional electoral system, a divided party (both the GOP and Democrats) and a fawning, celebrity-obsessed press.

Deep in Macron Country
We must now confront an uncomfortable question. Why did so many French people vote for Emmanuel Macron? Was it a lack of economic anxiety, or a lack of racism?

BY
HELEN LEWIS

As I step off the train in Roquefort, southern France, I sniff the air appreciatively. It’s so good to be out of the Paris bubble, meeting some authentic French people to answer the biggest question in European politics: why did so many people vote for Emmanuel Macron? Was it a lack of economic anxiety, or a lack of racism?

Either way, their concerns deserve to be heard. Some might find them unpalatable, but history has taught us that repressing such views only makes them more virulent. It might not be pleasant to hear them, it might offend our sensibilities, but we have to share our towns and cities with pragmatic centrists, so we must strive to understand them. Too often, during this French presidential cycle, an out-of-touch media elite has failed to understand these people, connected to the political process, broadly trusting of the mainstream media, and what has driven them to vote for a liberal, globalising ex-banker who wants to deregulate the economy…..

Timothy Watson  May 8, 2017 • 7:18:02am
Last week, the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act, which would cut Medicaid considerably and allow insurance companies to charge people with preexisting conditions significantly more for coverage. As a mom of four kids — two with Type 1 diabetes, an unpreventable, incurable and expensive disease — I am terrified that this bill will put my children’s lives at risk if it becomes law.

I will never forget that day in 2012 when our doctor told me and my husband our 2-year-old son had diabetes. At first, we were frightened for his health and future. We knew that if the disease wasn’t managed correctly with the right diet, dosage of insulin and vigilant care, he could not only get very sick, not only potentially lose his sight or a limb — but he could die. We were devastated all over again when our almost-3-year-old daughter also was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes earlier this year. The medications, the insulin pumps and the glucose monitors our son and daughter rely on are necessities. Having them is literally a matter of life and death.

That is why the AHCA worries us so much. I am self-employed, and my husband does not receive insurance through his employer. Our family relies on an HMO plan we purchased on the D.C. “Obamacare” exchange. It costs us about $18,000 a year to insure our family. Even with this coverage, we still spend about another thousand more on health care. The diabetes supplies alone for our two kids cost about $12,000 a year — and, again, we can’t simply look for cheaper options or do without some supplies without seriously jeopardizing their health. When our insurance refused to cover the long-acting insulin my little girl used right after she was diagnosed, we were forced to borrow some from our friends who had extra so we could stabilize her for a month. Then, we had to quickly put her on an insulin pump, which our insurance thankfully did cover, and switch her to the short-acting insulin allowed by our plan.

After a fan asked the hip-hop star if she would pay his college tuition on Twitter on Saturday night, Minaj agreed to pay fans’ school costs — on the condition that they show her perfect marks. She wrote , “Show me straight A’s that I can verify w/ur school and I’ll pay it.”

A few dozen fans took Minaj up on the offer, posting screenshots of their grades. Minaj replied individually to some throughout the night and agreed to pay other things like book costs and student loans.

Minaj wrapped up the contest after a few hours, but she promised to do it again in a month or two.

You also have to register before the end of the year before the elections, no last-minute registration is possible.

This is somewhat misleading. In Germany, you are required by law to register at your place of residence — within a month if I remember correctly.

There is no separate voter registration. About one month before any kind of vote (election or referendum), you automatically receive a notification letter with the details of your polling place. You can bring that letter with you to the polling place to speed things up, but you can vote without it if you don’t have it with you. All you need is your ID, which is not a problem as it is mandatory to have one.

Also, I think if you are moving around election time and haven’t registered in your new place yet, you’d simply vote in your old place. Or by mail, which does however require an explicit request for the form to vote by mail.

So glad for Angela Rye. I just watched her discuss ACA and AHCA with Kayleigh McEnany on CNN. She handled McEnany’s appeal to talking points about “Obamacare in a death spiral” by repeatedly and calmly pointing out what we’ve been saying: it never had to be this way; if there is a crisis it has been caused by republicans who have done everything in their power to make sure that insurance companies won’t participate. Yep, we need single-payer.

So, Matt Lewis is saying that Milo is a victim here, someone who’s ideas act needs to be given a forum everywhere? This week is getting off to a very derpy start.

I have brought this up a number of times, but a mandatory national ID (one for citizens one for legal resident aliens) and a mandatory registered address would put an end to almost all discussion of voter fraud, welfare or social services fraud, illegal residence, illegal employment, etc.

In Germany, you need to present your ID and registration before opening a bank account, enrolling children in school, registering a car, obtaining a driver’s license, signing a lease or employment contract, opening a mobile phone or land-line account, etc.

There would be no hassle about police asking for proof of residence, everyone who was legally here would have it in their hands or easily available.

re: #188 A Mom Anon

Thanks for the update Mom. Saying hello from Ohio!

Giant Network Of Tunnels Fills Chicago’s Underground, History Books

In total, 60 miles of tunnels were built starting in 1899 by the Illinois Telephone and Telegraph Company, which later became the Chicago Tunnel Company. The tunnel company created “tunnel air,” which was pumped into city buildings like air conditioning, according to atlasobscura.com. The website noted the clay soil removed by hand that made the tunnels was used to build up “low lying areas on the waterfront.”

I am “pro-life” in that I support every possible alternative, including contraception and sex education, and want to see abortion considered only as a last resort. But I am not “pro-life” in the sense of banning or criminalizing women who get abortions or doctors/clinics who provide them.

But in the GOP, “pro-life” often also means anti-contraception, anti-sex education, and actively pursuing every means to ban or outlaw access to abortions.

That is a distinction the Democrats must make before welcoming any “pro lifers” into the fold.

So, is Carter Page nuts or what?

Page alleged that the Obama administration committed two “preliminary felonies” by leaking information about his ties to Russian officials. He charged that the Obama administration “unlawfully disclosed” his identity in a court filing documenting his 2013 meeting with a Russian spy, where he handed over documents related to the energy business. He also accused the Obama administration of illegally leaking classified information stemming from a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant against him after he left the Trump campaign last summer.

Page called these alleged leaks “abuse” and said they contributed to his feeling that he should be able to come before the Senate and testify in open session, rather than do the “forced labor” of turning over all of the requested documents.

Burr and Warner have said they are open to issuing subpoenas if the Trump campaign associates do not comply.

In the letter, Page confirmed he has a legal team working with him to respond to the investigation. He’s already been remarkably eager to speak to the press for someone subject to both FBI and congressional investigation.

I really can’t figure this dude out.

VOCABULARY WORD OF THE DAY:

DOGGERLAND -n. proper

Things aren’t always what they seem on the surface. Looking at the area between mainland Europe and the eastern coast of Great Britain, you probably wouldn’t guess it had been anything other than a great expanse of ocean water. But roughly 12,000 years ago, as the last major ice age was reaching its end, the area was very different. Instead of the North Sea, the area was a series of gently sloping hills, marshland, heavily wooded valleys, and swampy lagoons: Doggerland.

They are lying about Obama again. Security clearances are predicated on need-to-know basis of classified information.

When a person transfers (or in Gen. Flynn’s case, is fired), the security clearance is revoked for administrative reasons (not punitive), or for criminal reasons (violations of security regulations or laws).

The second Flynn was fired, he would have been required to sign at least a paper acknowledging his clearance was revoked for administrative reasons. (Every time I changed military commands, and when I left the Navy, I was required to do the same.)

Conservative Columnist George Will Is Joining MSNBC

huffingtonpost.com

More changes per Andrew Lack Hack.

But I will grudgingly give Will credit…he has been destroying Trump a lot lately.

In case anyone missed last week’s Will slam on Trump…here is some of it and a link for the rest.

George F. Will: President Trump doesn’t know what it is to know (Commentary)

WASHINGTON — It is urgent for Americans to think and speak clearly about Donald Trump’s inability to do either. This seems to be not a mere disinclination but a disability. It is not merely the result of intellectual sloth but of an untrained mind bereft of information and married to stratospheric self-confidence.

In February, acknowledging Black History Month, Trump said that “Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more, I notice.” Because Trump is syntactically challenged, it was possible and tempting to see this not as a historical howler about a man who died 122 years ago, but as just another of Trump’s verbal fender benders, this one involving verb tenses.

Now, however, he has instructed us that Andrew Jackson was angry about the Civil War that began 16 years after Jackson’s death. Having, let us fancifully imagine, considered and found unconvincing William Seward’s 1858 judgment that the approaching Civil War was “an irrepressible conflict,” Trump says:

“People don’t realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why? People don’t ask that question, but why was there the Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?”

Library shelves groan beneath the weight of books asking questions about that war’s origins, so who, one wonders, are these “people” who don’t ask the questions that Trump evidently thinks have occurred to him uniquely? Presumably they are not the astute “lot of,” or at least “some,” people Trump referred to when speaking about his February address to a joint session of Congress: “A lot of people have said that, some people said it was the single best speech ever made in that chamber.” Which demotes Winston Churchill, among many others.

A local sheriff’s deputy lauds a law signed by Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts that prevents insurance companies from cancelling the insurance of first-responders shot on the job.

Too bad the Unicameral didn’t think that was appropriate for anyone shot, just first responders, but it is a start.

Deputy Michael Hutchinson of Deuel County (just to my southeast and more rural than my county) was shot four times serving an arrest warrant.

starherald.com

First, Gov. Pete Ricketts signed Legislative Bill 444, which prohibits cities or counties from canceling health insurance for any on-duty first responder or front-line state employee who suffers a serious bodily injury from an assault. That happened April 27.

A week later, Hutchinson received a Public Servant Hero award during the American Red Cross’ Heartland Heroes banquet in Grand Island. The award cited Hutchinson for his “nothing short of extraordinary” dedication in upholding his oath to protect and serve. It was presented Thursday.

Hutchinson, who said he was humbled by the Red Cross recognition, said he was elated that the governor signed LB 444.

Seriously. They watched Hillary walk out to the middle of that huge, empty field, set down a single rake, post “beware of rake” signs everywhere and then walk away smiling. They just couldn’t help themselves. The very next day they were compelled to dash out into that field with smug, reckless abandon, ignoring all the signs and KO themselves by stepping on that rake.

Pretty sure NBC’s making programming changes based on assumptions that may have been true before the election, and if Clinton had won. Now? Giving up the chance to be the Voice Of The Resistance to a historically unpopular President and Congress, based on low ratings accumulated back when they were trying to defend the Obama Administration.

Skip Intro  May 8, 2017 • 11:00:33am
Beggar’s day may be arriving for a lot of people on Monday afternoon, when former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates takes her turn in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. All weekend, from the peddling of visas by the Kushners, to the babbling of Eric Trump about how central Russian money has been to keeping the family grift afloat, to the clear attempt by the usual cyber-kulaks to ratfck the French election, we have been reminded that the foul tendrils of international criminal oligarchy spread in many directions. We are also reminded that, while Don Junior merely poses atop stumps, Eric is as dumb as one.

…..

It also seems that the Russia-Trump story is beginning to run in two channels—one, the involvement of Russian money in the president*’s business empire, and two, the effect of that involvement on the policies of the United States now that its president* seems to be in hock to these guys. It is possible that Flynn is the spillway between these two channels, and that may be the story that Sally Yates begins to tell on Monday. We’ll drop by later to see if that’s what happens.

re: #485 klys (maker of Silmarils)

You can donate directly to the campaign and get 47 bajillion e-mails begging for more money. The DCCC is not the only group that does that.

(Honestly the flood of e-mails you get when you donate is the biggest reason I donate sparingly.)

I know, it gets really annoying after awhile. If the damn campaigns spent half of that amount of e-mails on events they’re holding, I would be a lot more interested. And hell, with Voter Access Network (VAN), they could even micro-target the e-mails for local events.

re: #471 Hecuba’s daughter

I am being deluged too!! As soon as I send money, there 10 additional pleas + the ones for Montana. And what’s worse multiple mails will come from different sources with the same title and content!

I’m trying to figure out who sold my info to religious foodbank groups. I give to the local foodbank and No Kid Hungry, but I’ve been getting mailings from three different
Christian foodbank groups lately.

Once again, no good deed goes unpunished.

John Dean…. where oh where is that name from..

Oh yeah, Watergate. Dean knows a thing or two about craven complicity in criminal acts and cronyism.

Trump’s admin is chock full of them. Trump’s guiding principle in hiring people is absolute loyalty to him. Forget competence or knowledge of the jobs sought or that they are properly vetted.

He cares only that they toe his line, whatever reactionary bullshit he’s spewing that day.

The only thing that will cause his people to unseat him is when he blunders into a crisis he truly cannot handle and loses it catastrophically. Then his party will have to act out of self-preservation.

Until then, he can pretty much say and do whatever he wants without fear of being called to answer for it.

Nope—directly to his campaign through ActBlue—in fact, I believe I am the one who led the conversation about how useless the DCCC is.

I’ve been getting e-mails from a couple candidates here in Virginia for the election this year. I gotten so sick of them that I’ve started unsubscribing to every political e-mail that I get. Getting constant e-mails from someone I’ve donated to and signed-up for is annoying enough, but I also get e-mails from wannabe Delegates running half-way across the state begging for money.

I vaguely remember hearing that Obama’s 2008 campaign discovered that you could keep hitting people up for money over and over and they would keep contributing. Even then I thought that was going to come back to bite them in the butt. We’ve pretty much quit giving to political things because I’m not interested in spam and I’m particularly not interested in phone calls.

As soon as I get such a phone call (I won’t donate over the phone either … aside from personal information, no credit card, which they also don’t seem to get, that no banks issue nor businesses take credit cards in this area), I ask for the name of the organisation and send them an E-mail telling them I won’t ever donate to their organisation again.

On junk mail, I simply return the Business Reply envelope with the coupon and void written across it with a note to take me off their list.

It takes a bit of time to invest, but you significantly cut down on junk mail and phone calls. Pretty much the only phone calls I get now are family, friends, and scammers (and for them I have a canned air horn).
