Just delete like it never happened. Anyhow the ban is a direct violation of Hart-Cellar, if you don’t know it, it’s the immigration act that banned discrimination in immigration practices. Bachman as a candidate trashed it too.

It’s such an awkward pose.

You’d think Trump would want to show strength by standing next to another government leader, who appears to hover over him. Or at least get them to sit next to each other so that they are at same eye level.

Carried over from the last thread (because why not):

re: #537 Blind Frog Belly White

With Ma Bell, the phones in everyone’s home were company property. You didn’t get to keep them when they replaced them with touch tone.

We got General Telephone when they bought out our village telephone co-operative. Same deal though (although they didn’t get touch-tone service until the late Nineties there).

Emergency service on our old co-op phone system was plug in the first bank of cables, ring all the ringer switches with a yardstick eight short times. (My phone number used to be 12: One long ring, two short rings.) No calls after ten PM except for emergencies.

My aunt was on a six-person party line with GTE until they finally forced everyone on party lines to give them up a couple years ago … my grandmother jumped at the chance when GTE came in to get a private line.

Usual hijinks ensued with my aunt’s party line (people listening in and gossiping).

Why Does This Fake Racist Website Have It In for Malia Obama? (Goes to Wonkette)

Lo this past week, an article has been making the rounds on social media claiming that Malia Obama was arrested “with a gang of thugs” in Chicago. For dogfighting. It came from a site called America’s Last Line Of Defense, which reported:

Malia Obama may have done irreparable harm to her career this morning when she decided to join a gang of thugs in Chicago for a day of drinking, drugs and dogfighting at a public park in Chicago. Malia was arrested along with seven others and charged with wanton endangerment of animals, public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.

Included was this very realistic looking Malia Obama mugshot along with the 7 “thugs” she was supposedly arrested with. You know, because they always let people look to the side in a mugshot.

The further issue is that Yates could identify this information in a closed hearing - secured hearing. At some point this info could become public knowledge through proper declassified sourcing.

Yates can’t/wont testify as to whether Trump or Clinton were incidentally surveilled because that would reveal classified info. She again stated you can’t draw conclusion that the answer to that question is yes.

Rep. Grassley’s now trying to throw chaff into the air to deflect attention about the whole situation.

Of course he wants to talk about unmasking.

Yates stated categorically no that she asked for an unmasking.

Grassley and friends know what unmasking means, but they also know that an awful lot of folks don’t know what unmasking means, but it that sure sounds to them like evidence of a a deep-state, Soros-funded, Obama-led conspiracy to infiltrate and undermine the legally and lawfully elected President.

All these career GOP guys have tied their legacies to Donald Trump and they will do everything they can to keep that from being a disaster.

And you have summed up why it will take a major disaster, like him blundering into a crisis that he cannot deal with and totally losing control in an egregious, catastrophic and ultimately embarrassing (for the GOP) manner before anyone in his party will make a move to topple him.

Yates just took Cornyn to school (referring back to her confirmation hearing).

Quite a few people miss that, sadly. They don’t see it as the obfuscating filibuster that it is. It’s Cruise’s character that forces through to the heart of the matter and gets the direct answer that damns Nicholson’s character.

Probably wasn’t clear to many because Cruise is such a terrible actor.

So I go outside. There is a goat standing on the steps, chained to the yard.

Call the person back. “We have an ordinance against livestock in the village, but we don’t have any way to enforce it. Would you like to volunteer for the open village marshal position?”

A bunch of not very nice statements about why the village government is not enforcing ordinances followed. For that, we need a marshal and a municipal court (costs money), or we need to contract with the county sheriff to enforce our ordinances (costs money).

Costs money is where the argument usually ends. So now I have a goat across the street.

Speaking alongside Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke about the Trump administration’s order to review — and potentially shrink or eliminate — nearly 30 national monuments, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) said Native Americans were “manipulated” into their support for the 1.35 million acre Bears Ears National Monument southeastern Utah.

“The Indians, they don’t fully understand that a lot of the things that they currently take for granted on those lands, they won’t be able to do if it’s made clearly into a monument or a wilderness,” Hatch said on Sunday. “Once you put a monument there, you do restrict a lot of things that could be done, and that includes use of the land… Just take my word for it.”

re: #360 Patricia Kayden

This is why we should be pushing our Senators and Reps to demand an independent investigator. I’ve already asked and received a response from my Senator about this and he’s in full agreement. I hope Senators and Reps in red states are hearing from their constituents.

My Senators have my mail and E-mail on “shred before reading.” My Representative says he only represents Republicans.

Even on what should have been a non-controversial issue that I contacted my representative about (alleged Russian diversion of Visa and MasterCard Internet data through its telecom), I got no response at all. Not even a “thank you for your letter, here’s what I’m proposing for Agriculture.”

Eric really should coordinate better with his brother.

2008: Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., told investors in Moscow that the Trump Organization had trademarked the Donald Trump name in Russia and planned to build housing and hotels in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi, and sell licenses to other developers, the Russian daily Kommersant reported. “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,” Trump Jr. said at the time. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

Man, I wish I lived in the country and had stray goats coming around my house. Sounds like fun to me. We have deer in the nearby park but they don’t come anywhere near the housing developments. Sigh.

P.S. Unfortunately the possums and raccoons aren’t so shy.

The deer here come through town frequently, and are educated about cars: They look both ways before crossing streets.

On the other hand, sometimes life is not so good: A bull got out of a pasture and charged into town, saw its reflection in the Post Office door, then staved it in. It then stampeded by my house, dropped a load in the street next to it, then charged north up Main Street out of town.

A little racism here, a little racism there… .

Why should Native Americans take Orrin Hatch’s word on anything? I’m guessing they have lawyers who understand what a national monument allows and doesn’t allow.

I know if Acme Mining Corp. owned the land, Natives would get diddly access to it.

Yes they would. Acme would dump the land they mine into the river and the river would wash it to them. Win/win.///////

Besides deer and the occasional moose, we have wild turkeys. Flocks of them. They have zero fucks to give, and they are large enough to make it count. They’d make a perfect Thanksgiving dinner, but I don’t think roadkill is the way to go about it.

We have wild turkeys as well. One time the bed-and-breakfast was so overrun with them the owner was afraid to come out. As she was previously married to the gun shop owner, she called him to try to get rid of them.

Since firing guns is illegal in town (and shooting turkeys requires a license), he chased after them with a golf club.

My representative is not the only one; there are a number of Republican representatives who say the same thing around the country.

In fact, the claims that “people are bussed in” or are “professional protesters” at Republican town halls are variants of that theme: They can’t be my constituents because they don’t approve of my votes or positions.

The Healthcare Bill Exposes Trump’s Chilling Authoritarian Agenda (goes to Marie Claire)

Good thing the mainstream media is leaving the hard-hitting political pieces to Marie Claire and Teen Vogue. Wouldn’t want to upset their magic balance fairy… .

More at Marie Claire, the article starts:

The image is now iconic: a group of old white men stand at a podium, announcing that a healthcare bill that disproportionately hurts women has passed the House. The men include a beaming Mike Pence, who once signed a law forcing women to bury or cremate aborted fetuses, and President Trump, who has been accused of sexual assault by at least 13 women, and, lest we forget, once bragged about his ability to “grab” women “by the pussy” on tape.

All thirteen of the members who designed this bill were men. And while the legislation has the potential to hurt every American, many of its stipulations are explicitly designed to render women unable to acquire basic care. If the new bill is signed into law, rape and sexual assault—far more common among women than men—could be considered pre-existing conditions by the federal government. For women who let their insurance lapse, maternity coverage will no longer be guaranteed, and pregnant women may face surcharges up to $17,000 for care. C-sections could also be considered a pre-existing condition, meaning that a woman could incur costs of roughly $50,000 for simply wanting another child. States could determine that having a heavy period or other menstrual irregularities is a pre-existing condition to be paid for out of pocket.

Erectile dysfunction, at the moment, is still covered.
