Totally OT, but I was thinking earlier about marriage and other stuff. (For those of you who haven’t been following along, it’s my anniversary and I made dinner for Mr. C. rather than going out.)
I am familiar with more than one marriage where some people think one person or the other has a better deal than their spouse. That they give more than they get. And yet, I’m virtually certain that they are happy marriages for both partners. Which brought me to the general question of whether people want “more” or “enough” in their lives. Does “he does more for her than she does for him” (or vice versa) matter if each person gets what they need? Probably for some it does and for some it doesn’t.

I’d imagine people who get “enough” are happier than those who need “more” because I would think it is easier to recognize enough than to know when you have reached a sufficient amount of more. This might also translate to one’s level of satisfaction with life in general because for most people, even well off people, there are always many people out there with more than you have. If you have enough it is good. If you need more, then one way of feeling better is to hope others have less.

This has been your moment of random introspection…

Miss USA 2017 Miss District of Columbia Kára McCullough: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

I’m gonna have me a Brawndo and tequila before bed.

From that New York Times article:

What drives these differences? Simple partisanship is one possibility. On average, Republicans - and Republican men in particular - were more likely to correctly locate North Korea than Democratic men. And Republicans were more likely to be in favor of almost all the diplomatic solutions posed by the researchers. (Women tended to find North Korea at similar rates, regardless of party.)

It seems strange to me that Democratic men would fail harder at this than Republican men, or that Republicans are more likely to favour diplomatic solutions (considering the sabre-rattling going on with Murica-yeah! Airstrikes! Invasions!)

I was under the impression that Democrats value education more than Republicans (see Betsy DeVos) - I can identify every nation on Earth on an unmarked political map with my high school education.

I just realized I have to go vote again on Tuesday. That’s the 4th time I’ve voted so far this year. First was a Special Election for a State Rep who vacated, Second was the LA City Primary. Third was a Special Primary to replace now Attorney General Becerra, Tuesday is a City Election with the sole item on the ballot an initiative to modify the way Los Angeles disciplines police officers and coming up on June 6th got to vote yet again for the Congressional runoff.

I always make sure I vote especially in local elections since so few turn out for them. I have to do my part to keep the religious kooks out of office!

Daughter put this on her FB page tonight:

If you watched Call the Midwife tonight, or if you didn’t, I invite you to learn about Frances Oldham Kelsey, an FDA reviewer in the 60s who is responsible for refusing approval of Thalidomide in the US, saving who knows how many families from the same struggles felt by too many of those in Europe. This is a woman who made an incredible contribution to science without knowing how incredible it would be. And it is an example of why we NEED regulation. Businesses do not protect us, they watch out for their bottom line. Don’t let anyone tell you our “economy” is more important than taking care of each other. My students felt this story very strongly when we talked about it a few months ago, and it was my pleasure to tell them that the next hero could be sitting in that school at that moment. Learning matters. Effective government matters.

Frances Oldham Kelsey

Frances Kathleen Oldham Kelsey, CM (July 24, 1914 - August 7, 2015) was a Canadian pharmacologist and physician. As a reviewer for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), she refused to authorize thalidomide for market because she had concerns about the drug’s safety. Her concerns proved to be justified when it was shown that thalidomide caused serious birth defects. Kelsey’s career intersected with the passage of laws strengthening FDA oversight of pharmaceuticals.

I remember the thalidomide scandal quite clearly, the ghastly pictures in Life Magazine and the incredible story of how this horror was kept out of the United States.

The FDA did its first big recall shortly after the agency was formed … they went after Massengill for a formulation of sulfanilamide as an elixir.

The problem wasn’t that sulfa was a bad drug (it is used today), or elixirs (alcohol preparations of medications are common).

It was that the drug was dissolved not in alcohol but in diethyline glycol (automotive antifreeze).

It was that raid on stocks sold to pharmacists and physicians that caused the government to move to regulate the safety and efficacy of medications.

Interesting thing about thalidomide is it’s the classic example of how molecular chirality can drastically impact how a drug works. It was only the S enantiomer, aka the left handed version of the molecule that caused birth defects. Unfortunately the manufacturer didn’t know that at the time nor did they have the ability to selectively produce only the right handed version of the molecule.

Also, point of interest, S stands for Sinister, the Latin term for Left.

Massengill’s chief chemist, one Harold Watkins, claimed not to have known that diethylene glycol was poisonous, despite considerable evidence in medical literature. He committed suicide while awaiting trial. Young Frances Kelsey of later thalidomide fame was involved in this case. Elixir sulfanilamide
There is a very extensive case history of the misuse of DEG, since it is a cheap and easily available counterfeit for glycerine in many formulations and has a sweetening effect.

Interesting thing about thalidomide is its the classic example of how molecular chirality can drastically impact how a drug works.

The FDA still permits the use of thalidomide in very restricted conditions. (Amongst the restrictions are women who may be pregnant, obviously.)

Trivial compared to the pharmacological importance of chirality, but I always like the example of enantiomers S-carvone and R-carvone: the former gives caraway its scent, the latter spearmint.

I well recall reading that issue and how upset folks at the time were by it. (I’m an Air Force brat, and anything to do with radiation, especially in deliverable bomb form, was always a big deal for us kids and adults on bases I grew up on. It practically drove at least one generation insane.)

In Germany, there was initially some effort to blame the thalidomide birth defects on nuclear testing.

From that Wikipedia article, it mentions adulterated wine from Austria being seized by ATF. Austria then got creative:

After recalling millions of wine bottles, the Austrian Government had no idea how to destroy the product. During September 1986, the Ministry of Public Works started testing a mixture of wine with salt to melt hazardous ice during winter. The primary results revealed that the mixture was more effective than using salt alone. The next year, an Austrian electric power plant (Oesterreichischen Draukraftwerke) in Carinthia announced that technicians developed a way to produce energy through burning 30 million liters of contaminated wine

The handedness of molecules is also the issue with prion diseases. (BSE, kuru, vCJD)

Since the pesky mad cow problem in Europe while I was there, I cannot donate blood or organs by law, in case I was exposed.

This is the specific reason that I argue with people who think organ donation should either be mandatory or opt-out: Many people do not know they have problems like mad cow exposure or potentially latent fatal diseases.

While Trump stumbles and bumbles around with American foreign policy, China is working its magic to become a world superpower.

Almost 30 state leaders put their support behind Xi Jinping’s new globalisation strategy

Draft communique of ‘Belt and Road’ summit endorses Xi Jinping’s grand plan to connect the world’s economies

In the communique, dated May 8, China said it welcomed South America’s participation in the initiative, the basis of which covers Asia, Africa and Europe. It made no mention of North America, although its welcome extended to “other regions”.

The draft also reaffirmed China and the participating countries’ commitment to open economy and inclusive trade, and said the Belt and Road countries were opposed to all forms of protectionism.

It also called on all parties that had ratified the Paris Agreement to fully implement the international pact aimed at curbing climate change.

Note the two subtle digs at Trumpism.

My elementary school was full of smartasses, with smartass parents, and we sneered and snorted at the idea “duck and cover” would be worthwhile against nukes. But the teacher was smart enough to point out that yeah, probably true, so we should just pretend it’s an earthquake drill and do the exercise anyway, because the same reactions really truly would be useful then.

My appendix was pulled when I was seventeen (I suffered recurrent appendicitis because it was actually in the wrong place in my body - I also had an emergency surgery when the scar burst open while I was at sea - ruined a good uniform with blood all over it in the chow hall). My tonsils went away when I was twelve.

BP is fine, though physicians constantly rag on my weight and body fat (both too low). Of course there’s the little problem with epilepsy.

I guarantee you if the GOP privatises the VA I’m a goner.

Turns out that it wouldn’t matter anyway. Your liver contains an enzyme which interconverts the enantiomers, so even giving one results in a racemic mixture in the body.

Okay. Not the same process. (goes back and looks up chirality again - new word for me that I didn’t look up when you first introduced it - understand now as reflection of atoms [usually around one or more carbon atoms] rather than folded proteins [prions]).

The rest of the article promotes Chuck Norris’s amazing water with health and restorative properties:

WASHINGTON - Superstar Chuck Norris wants everyone to know he’s not looking for a job, but …

If President Trump, whom he supported for president in 2016, wants him to replace James Comey as FBI director, he’s ready, willing and available.

While promoting his new bottled water in Utah this weekend, Norris said: “If someone has to clean it up, and it has to be me, I’ll take the job.”

What do YOU think? Should Trump consider Chuck Norris for FBI director? Sound off in the WND Poll!

Fans were keen on the idea of Norris taking over the FBI. One said, “We need to get him in to Washington! I think he would clean it up. I think he’s the man for the job.”

Best practice: don’t click email links, even if the sender is someone on your email list. When it doubt, use your mail client to check the source code of the email and verify (a) the sender’s email is correct and (b) the link shown is not obscuring another, more sinister link.

Yet another reason why I hate forwarded emails.

I use gmail almost exclusively, and Gmail does a great job weeding out bogus emails. Occasionally, a few slip through, like emails inviting me to some random event in a town I’ve never even visited much less lived in.

It is in the national interest to have a health population and work force, and the best (and ultimately least expensive) way to guarantee that is through universal healthcare.

Ultimately this issue forces us into a definition of a “right”, complete with a trace to their origins. Ayn Rand, Comrade Mao, and Edward Bellamy use different dictionaries.

Upon watching the 70’s version of Match Game on Youtube I’ve become more aware of how much of television, game shows in particular, is about reification.

Anyway, the allegedly un-aired-on-CBS episode near the end of the daytime run, after it had been cancelled, also had the highest winner in the history of the show, technically breaking the bank (the CBS game show limit):

Match Game 79 (Episoe 1448) (All-Time Match Game Winner) (UN-AIRED EPISODE)

$32k back in 1979 was a decent amount of money. The woman went on to work in academia, I think, if this is her:
linkedin.com

Glad to see someone put their winnings to good use.

BTW, that episode also had as a guest “star” Brianne Leary, who I only vaguely remember from her time as an supporting actor on CHiPs. She was formerly a contestant on the same show a few years earlier.

Anyway Match Game, it’s main spin-off (Family Feud), predecessors, and countless other game shows are about rewarding people for conforming to the group-think.

In this these game-shows are just doing what is typical in society. Religions, military, etc. are about rewarding conformity and punishing going outside the lines.

Yes and they also see the breakdown of package insurance policies into ala carte menu items so that each element (cardiac care, kidney care, ear-nose-throat, allergies, ob-gyn, reproductive, pediatric, geriatric, pulmonary, bone and joint, cancer, etc. etc. etc.) must be purchased separately, offering MOAR CHOICE MEENS MOAR COMPETITIONS!!!!!! while at the same time condensing tax brackets BECAUSE SEVEN TAX BRACKETS IS TOO CONFUSINGS!!!!!!!

yes, the argument is counter-productive and totally alienates people who are otherwise practical-minded with regards to health care but do not like the notion of “free” anything.

A better argument is the government provides a service (healthcare) in exchange for taxation. It isn’t free, but it is available to all.

For those who want cadillac care, non-necessary care (like most plastic surgery), you are also free to buy insurance or pay out-of-pocket.

The socialistic argument to make is that the government can provide regular services for everyone at a lower cost, because it is not in it for profit.

You could twist language and economic theory to the point that something like national healthcare service (or the Apollo program) are nearly “free”. It’s not a useful way to think or argue right now.

196
Anymouse  May 15, 2017 • 6:02:30am

A similar argument to that (which I had with a libertarian who just didn’t get it) is the town water systems around here.

Some capitalistic genius went around to all the towns here and convinced every town (except ours) to sell them their water systems, promising better service, and a pile of money for each town.

They all bit except mine (though there was a bitter fight in the village until the board rejected the offer).

Not too long after the water company bought up the city water systems, the prices started going up, the maintenance started going down, and the profits started leaving the area.

In the meantime, our socialistic water system (we own the means of production) has the cheapest water in the Panhandle, and is partially subsidised with county property taxes.

And only a fraction were actually killed in the camps, the rest were killed in various other ways, usually mass graves out in the woods.

In my little discourse on game shows I left out my prattling on about the magick of words.

Many of the game shows are centered around words - either being able to identify words, or to be able to recall specific words or speech patterns.

If you observe the audience responses (knowing that they are often prompted), audiences react to words. The more familiar a word, the more of a response.

Words are triggers. Part of the defining characteristic of our species is the evolution of language. Language is a significant, perhaps the most significant, element in what makes us “human”.

Anyway, be aware of the magickalness of words.

As white parents of five black children, Deanna and Aaron Cook have taught their family to grow thick skin. They’ve endured odd looks at the grocery store in Malden, Mass., and ignored strange comments from Walmart greeters.

But nothing, Aaron Cook told The Washington Post, quite prepared them for the month-long battle they’ve been fighting with the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School over their daughters’ hair.

On April 14, twins Deanna and Mya Cook, 15, told their parents they wanted to have their hair professionally braided. The girls had always braided it themselves or had it chemically straightened, but as teens they were learning more about black culture and wanted to try something new.

Soon after, they went to school with long, braided hair.

The next day, the girls were called to the office for a “uniform infraction.”

Hair extensions are prohibited in the public charter school’s student handbook, alongside nail polish, makeup and dyed hair because it is “distracting.” An administrator told Deanna and Mya that their new braids — which combine artificial hair with their own hair — violated that rule.

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. Looks like Ann Coulter haz a sad because Trump the Great Negotiator turns out to be yet another empty promise/bafflement with bullshit.

Reality is that Trump was always a con artist and grifter, and was never a skillful negotiator. Being a bully and using an inherited real estate fortune to con others into doing your bidding isn’t the same as being a skilled negotiator.

Reality is that to be a skilled negotiator you have to know all the facts and details of both sides in the negotiation. If you want to conduct a successful negotiation, you’d need to know your rival’s positions as well as they know yours, so that you can find a point in the middle where you can find commonalities and reach a conclusion where both sides have obtained some of what they seek; neither side gets all of what they want - the point of negotiation is that it’s seen as win-win by both sides.

Trump repeatedly shows that he has no interest in facts or minutiae. In fact, it looks like Trump’s a fan of fiction and his minions are feeding him an endless stream of fake stories to boost his ego, confirm his worldview, and otherwise are lying their asses of to him so that he can continue lying to the American people.

In any other administration, this kind of action would result in summary firings of those involved. With Trump, this behavior is apparently condoned and supported, all because Trump needs to have his insulated bubble where facts, news, and logic are absent, and he can baffle his supporters with still more bullshit.

Moreover, had any of this kind of news surfaced in an Obama Administration, the GOP would be holding immediate hearings overnight, drafting letters of impeachment on grounds that the president is actively undermining US national security and violating his oath. Here? The GOP continues enabling Trump and Ryan and McConnell are culpable and complicit.

That’s why there’s no chance at impeachment unless and until the House/Senate change hands. It’s wishful thinking to consider otherwise. At the same time, buying into the nonstop flow of claims that indictments are just around the corner is also so much wish fulfillment and wishful thinking (think TrueStatedFacts & Louise Mensch to name but two). It is possible that indictments are forthcoming? Yes. Does it mean that the Trump admin is crumbling? No.

Any prosecutor that is bringing a case will want to make sure it’s airtight, and they’re not going to be dropping hints that there’s 28, 48, or 100+ indictments ready to fall. In fact, it’s likely to start with one or two people getting hit with multiple charges, or that we learn that a number of individuals are cooperating with law enforcement and prosecutors in lieu for preferential treatment after that deal is done.

Therefore, I’d urge caution on anyone claiming that the indictments are right around the corner. It’s the same kind of baffling BS that HA Goodman spewed for months on end about how Clinton was going to be indicted and that’d be the end of her campaign.

With the insider stock trading scandal involving Tom Price, four more Republicans are ensnared buying stock in the same firm Price did.
politico.com

A Washington Post editorial called Price “a walking, talking example of the ways in which congressional ethics requirements are too lax.” Sen. Chris Murphy demanded: “Tell me how it can possibly be OK that you were championing positions on health care issues that have the effect of increasing your personal wealth?” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) asked him, “Doesn’t this show bad judgment?”

But what many saw as a scandal, others saw as an opportunity. On the very day that Wyden was decrying Price’s bad judgment, Rep. Doug Lamborn, Republican of Colorado, bought shares of the same tiny Australian company, Innate Immunotherapeutics. Within two days three more members also bought in — Republicans Billy Long of Missouri, Mike Conaway of Texas and John Culberson of Texas. Conaway added more shares the following week.

Well, if Mr. Trump’s polling continues to decline, and it is tied to the House, Senate, and state GOP, they may jump before the election to try to save their prospects.

I don’t expect the GOP to do anything unless they feel their own reëlection chances are threatened. They don’t need Trump, they have Pence. If for some reason Pence were to go down, they have Ryan. If Ryan went down, they have Orrin Hatch.

And then there is the shitshow of a Cabinet.

The most immediate political consequences are those facing New York mayoral hopeful Richard “Bo” Dietl, a private investigator and former Fox News contributor who had long denied reports that he surveiled Ailes biographer Gabriel Sherman and others on behalf of the ousted network chief. Earlier this month, Dietl admitted to the Wall Street Journal that he had investigated Andrea Mackris, a former Fox producer who sued Bill O’Reilly for sexual harassment in 2004, and Gretchen Carlson, whose accusations against Ailes prompted his ouster last year, on behalf of the network.

politico.com

That is what happened in late February when someone mischievously gave the president a printed copy of an article from redacted, the website of Internet provocateur Charles C. Johnson, which accused deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh of being “the source behind a bunch of leaks” in the White House.

No matter that Johnson had been permanently banned from Twitter for harassment or that he offered no concrete evidence or that he’s lobbed false accusations in the past and recanted them. Trump read the article and began asking staff about Walsh. Johnson told POLITICO that he tracks the IP addresses of visitors to his website and added: “I can tell you unequivocally that the story was shared all around the White House.”

IOW, the problem with talking about biochemistry by analogy is that things that can be analogized similarly may be very different phenomena.

As happens with chirality of chemicals. D and L enantiomers denote direction of rotated polarized light in a solution containing more of one of enanitiomers and give no information on the actual relative location of side chains off the chiral atom.

Under IUPAC notation, R and S will give you tell information about the chiral center side chain location with no information on the directionality of rotated light. This is the current standard for naming all chemical entities. The D and L notation is considered archaic and cannot inform the chemist of the absolute configuration.

There is no “socialism”, and there is no “capitalism.” In some cases, it’s better to let the market figure out costs and distribution, and in other cases, it’s better to let the people. They are tools not systems.

Todd Rundgren is a good egg. He gives fair warning to Trump supporters who come out to his show.

Todd Rundgren has a warning for supporters of President Donald Trump: Keep away.

“Don’t come to my show,” Rundgren told Variety. “Because you won’t have a good time.”

Rundgren’s latest album features the anti-Trump song “Tin Foil Hat,” which he recorded with Donald Fagen of Steely Dan.

Addressing Trump supporters, he said:

“I don’t understand your frickin’ values. Because I’m not singing about that. If you don’t understand that basic thing, you’re just fooling yourself. I guarantee that in this show, if you’re a Trump supporter, you will likely be offended. Let the buyer beware! I mean, if you can’t take a joke, or you can’t admit that you’ve made a mistake, you don’t belong with the rest of us.”

Rundgren laughed at the end of his comments, Willman noted.

Go TR.

When investors pool their resources to optimize profits, that is a Corporation, (which is a legal construct that only exists because government has created regulations governing them) and is upheld as the very heart and soul of the Free Market.

But when employees or consumers (who are born and exist without any government being directly involved) pool their bargaining power to maximize wages, benefits or purchasing power, that is a union, and is frowned upon as the complete antithesis of the Free Market…

With Trump, this behavior is apparently condoned and supported, all because Trump needs to have his insulated bubble where facts, news, and logic are absent, and he can baffle his supporters with still more bullshit.

The analysis in The Economist made a very similar point when it compared the 45* administration to the Tudor court with functionaries vying for his ear at all times and courtiers standing about agreeing with everything that pours out of his face-hole.

OMG. OMGOMGOMG!!1!!eleventy!!

If they can keep Trump’s attention, NATO heads of state are expected to discuss two main issues at the May 25 meeting, both catering to the president’s priorities: Counterterrorism and burden sharing.

Part of the issue is staffing: After months of Trump threatening a radically new approach to global alliances the United States helped create, there’s nobody even charting a new course. Trump hasn’t appointed any key high-level posts for Europe, including key Pentagon postings, undersecretaries of state, an assistant secretary of state for Europe, or a new ambassador to NATO. With no middle-management to give direction on a day-to-day basis, Europeans are struggling to decipher exactly what the new administration wants from them.

One former NATO official said the agenda meant to to mollify Trump appeared to amount to repackaging what NATO was already doing — increasing its defense spending and continuing to support U.S. efforts in Afghanistan and the counter-ISIS campaign — in a new wrapper for the president.

“They think they’re fine because they’re going to put old wine in new bottles,” one former senior U.S. official told FP. Whether Trump buys it remains to be seen.

Yes, and that is unicorn-fart wishful thinking. the point is that by including everyone in healthcare, overall costs will actually decrease.

Example: We have the Emergency Care Act in the USA. Anyone coming to a clinic or hospital with an emergency condition must be given life-saving assistance, regardless of their ability to pay.

But what happens when we have large numbers of people coming to emergency clinics who cannot pay? The costs are passed onto those who can.

And a large number of these emergency procedures (bypass operations, for example) could be prevented with a minimum of prophylactic care, therapy or prescriptions, which might cost a few hundred dollars rather than tens of thousands for a major life-saving operation…

Before it belonged to Comcast, NBC/MSNBC were a wholly-owned subsidiary of GE/Westinghouse. Again, happy viewers and good ratings/earnings for the broadcast division meant nothing compared to the parent company’s defense contracts.

The State Department says about 50 detainees a day are being hanged at Saydnaya (Said-nay-ah) military prison, about 45 minutes from Damascus. It says the crematorium is being used to hide evidence of the extent of the killings.

The department is releasing newly declassified photographs showing what it says is a building in the prison complex that has been modified to support the crematorium.

In presenting the photographs, the top U.S. diplomat for the Middle East, Stu Jones, said Monday that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government “has sunk to a new level of depravity” with the support of Russia and Iran

This is a part of the Berniebro argument that starts to make sense: that appealing to any sort of moderate or centrist sentiments in the GOP is all but pointless: it is best to pursue a progressive agenda that has nothing to do with the GOP.

Unfortunately, if we want any chance at retaking Congress next year, we’re going to have to find some way to appeal to those moderate and centrist “independents” in the voter pool. And the reason for that is the Berniebros made the decision last year that unless we’re flying the hammer and sickle over the DNC, they’re not interested in supporting the party.

Damn, Jennifer Rubin’s on point (emphasis in original):

Even Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, seems to have lost her way. “The president is the CEO of the country,” Haley told ABC’s News George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. “He can hire and fire anyone he wants.” No, no, no. He is the chief executive of one branch of government, and he does not have the right to fire someone and lie about the reason as a means of derailing an investigation of executive-branch employees. Where did Haley get the idea he was responsible to no one and unconstrained by laws and norms? Again, to work for Trump requires one to think up justifications that defy common sense and ignore reality.

Even some of the “better” senators haven’t been very good. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) insists there cannot be a special prosecutor because this is a counterespionage investigation. HUH? Rosenstein is supervising the investigation, which Comey specifically said encompasses a criminal inquiry; the question is whether someone free from political manipulation (which Rosenstein is not, as demonstrated in the Comey firing) should do that job.

I don’t think these people even exist - they either support Democrats already, or have climbed all aboard the trump train because tax cuts.

As this article I’ve posed several times before states, there are hardly any “moderate” swing voters left - it’s more like people who hold a confused mishmash of extreme positions that don’t fully fit with either the GOP or Dems.

When your article starts with an obvious falsehood:

The anonymous comment sections of many publications are notorious for their incivility and malignant smears. But in the debate over replacing Obamacare with a Republican alternative, the American Health Care Act, the online trolls and fever-swamp fanatics have been hard to distinguish from mainstream politicians, journalists, and commentators.

Then you’re just talking to hear yourself talk. Trumpcare is not a “replacement,” because the GOP can’t pass a replacement through reconciliation. It’s the equivalent of a parasitic wasp using a caterpillar as a host for its young. The bill will hijack the ACA, gut it of its most important provisions, and then burst out into a full-blown horror that will be used in a year’s time to justify a full repeal.

It is your patriotic duty to offer first aid to the assailant in case he hurt his hand in doing so…

No, but after he was elected Trump said the same thing. His campaign website said the same thing after he was elected and was only scrubbed after someone realized that it might be used against them in a court of law (but hey, the Internet is forever, so nice try trying to hide your discriminatory intent).

Wall, the DoJ lawyer defending Trump’s ban, is pretty much useless (and an embarrassment to lawyers everywhere).

Wait, that’s literally his name? I swear 2017 is trying to vindicate bad, outlandish, over-the-top fiction forever… o_O

Damn, Jennifer Rubin’s on point (emphasis in original):

Just two problems:

Assuming Nikki Haley ever had a “way” or an “idea” and assuming Lindsey is “better” because he seems somewhat rational when he’s on teevee.

re: #295 Dr. Matt

It looks like that raging radical far-left MSNBC is looking to fire one of their few actual liberals, Lawrence O’Donnell. Go figure.

So — who does a normal person contact to protest their decision? Is there an email or a phone number?

It’s a Monday morning, thus I know it’s a little early to inflict the Rage Furby on you all, but Jesus, this was the first item in my email feed this morning and I had to fricken page it:

Trump tears apart his White House staff based on story by Charles C Johnson

And now I see that he’s looking at firing Spicer & Bannon & maybe Priebus.
Wonder what article by the Rage Furby he read that told him to do that?

There’s this thing called the 1st amendment. Maybe he’s heard of it or maybe not since Russia doesn’t have one.

Sure they do. Article 29. Thing is, the Russian government doesn’t give a shit about the constitution. They arrested protestors who did nothing but recite the constitution, so there you go.

This was discussed here: #236. Maybe she should run against him: “Frelinghuysen believes you should be punished for criticizing him.”

re: #392 Targetpractice

I will note that it seems a lot of the “serious” wingnuts who were #NeverTrump six months ago are slowly gravitating back that way as he becomes absolutely toxic to conservative politics. Those months of “Maybe he’ll be good for us” are gonna be the “the Iraq War will totally work out” of conservatives in 4 years.

I don’t know…that sounds kind of hopeful and all.
