15
lawhawk  May 15, 2017 • 5:51:43pm

But wont.

Not until Congressional GOPers are thrown out of office and replaced with actual patriots.

This GOP puts party before country. They’re snowflakes concerned that their Confederate heritage is destroyed (when monuments erected during Reconstruction and Jim Crow to specifically go after minorities trying to claim the rights long denied by these bigots), when the reality is that everyone knows or should know who these people were, and why they fought (slavery - by their own words). It was the War of Southern Insurrection. The South lost. And it shouldn’t rise again, because that’d mean that the bigots get to restore white supremacy, which is what they’ve been after all along. It’s what the GOP and Trump are after.

Graham and McCain will act all concerned, and vote with the GOP more than 95% of the time. Even the so-called moderate GOPers are voting with Trump and the GOP extremists 90%+ of the time. There’s no daylight there.

That only comes if and when the Democrats vote in the midterms (and all the other off year elections) to vote the GOP out once and for all.

Non sequitur…

I have couple favorite movies that some people just don’t understand.

The one I’m watching now I feel is incredibly underappreciated:

Joe Versus the Volcano

I remember seeing it when I was like 12 and it deeply affected me.

It’s silly and weird, but yet strangely profound in it’s exploration of the meaning of life, a criticism of the rat-race, people’s individual inanities and generally how we all chose to live our lives.

I think about this movie almost every day.

Well, yeah. That’s out there now.

Even with access to every medium available today (television, radio, newspapers and magazines, the Internet, attending speeches and talks, &c) it is really difficult to keep up with every candidate and every position (and the nuances between those positions).

I don’t necessarily pine for “simpler times” (as those simpler times were a lot brutal, even only one generation ago), but it would sure be helpful to try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I don’t expect the average voter to discern what is a good stance vis-a-vis nation X or whether this or that trade deal will be better for them, us, or both.

That’s what we’re supposed to have a press for. When they are doing that job, they are a great force for good. When they abdicate it they bring about an uninformed electorate.

Alas, this has seemed enough to derail the big story of the day from a lot of people I’ve seen, simply because, “OMG Hillary’s gonna run again, burn everything!” And even if she says she wasn’t going to run, no one would believe her because they treat the worst case scenario in any thing involved with her as the one sole truth. Therefore, her getting involved means all these organizations are tainted and thus must be burned to the ground lest History’s Greatest Monster not be exiled to hell where she belongs, or some goddamn shit.

And again, these are almost all millennial kids I’m hearing say this, which makes me so infinitely depressed. Like, two voices of even muted support for what she’s doing, against 98 “BURN EVERYTHING SHE’S EVER TOUCHED, WE MUST BE CLEANSED”, enough to distract everyone from the fact that, yet again, every single fucking thing Hilary got accused of doing or planning, Trump has done out in the fucking open at least threefold and been met with fucking shrugs by even the ‘adults in the room’ in his party.

Hey, you know, not all of us are total fuckwads. I’ve had enough of the generational bashing.

Did you see today’s article about why Millennials are awful? It involves avocado toast, which we should apparently all give up in order to save up and buy houses instead.

I have never had avocado toast but it does sound kind of tasty. Would need salt though, I think. Most avocado tastes better with salt.

Definitely no peas.

Avocado toast? Don’t eat it myself, but apparently Mrs. Fish served it to our kids earlier this week. I guess this makes us bad people and I should feel bad.

Someone calculated that they would only have to give up avacado toast for about four thousand years to be able to purchase a house where they live.

re: #78 klys (maker of Silmarils)

Good thing Trump wouldn’t be the prosecutor then, and there’s a lot of other people around to say what he did was fucked up.

Unfortunately, Trumps comments do have an effect. The court martial of that one sergeant accused of desertion is being challenged for undue command influence because of Trump’s comments. Things he says can be used as a defense (however tenuous) and now having the POTUS revealing intel to the Russians in the Oval Office will have an effect on any prosecution that happened hypothetically during this presidency. How could it not? The defense will automatically use his actions to disparage any case the government makes.

This why past Presidents have ALWAYS been very neutral in commenting on criminal matters as to avoid their statements being used as a basis to appeal based on jury prejudice etc.

Hell, I understand completely on this, especially the goofy ass stories like millennials being blamed for the decline of casinos, or the stupid avocado toast thing klys pointed out that choked twitter before the big news hit. But I’ve just been extremely disillusioned by my experience with other millennials (me being right on the older edge of the generation), especially the more internet and tech savvy ones I’ve seen fall in thrall to the Richard Spencers of the world at worst, and the Bernie Bro contingent on the other end, with so precious little light in between. And I’ve admitted god knows how many times how much is anecdata and personal experience on my part, but it’s still been painfully disillusioning on my end.

1. FAKE NEWS!!! DISCREDITED!!
2. Real news, but distorted by the librul media

Just got done looking at my “love me” wall and cabinet, thinking about this incredible news from Washington today.

The folded flag from my father’s casket, and the Honor and Remember certificate.
His shadowbox with medals. His service photo.
A model P-3 Orion aeroplane given to my father by Lockheed. A deck of F-4 Phantom II promotional playing cards. A P-3 coffee cup.
My mother’s shadowbox with medals.
My shadowbox with medals.
My Cold War certificate.
My honourable discharge, and my letters of commendation and appreciation.
My certification letter from my last election.

I never voted for Republicans any time in my life, but for the first time in my life the party seems not to be looking out for its interests, but the interests of another nation.

There’s fifty years worth of military bling on my “love me” wall and cabinet. The Republicans now are just throwing that in my family’s face: Your service doesn’t matter. We’ll collude with another nation if that’s what it takes to maintain power.

I would be damn mad if this were done with Canada or Mexico. But Russia? Led by a former KGB agent? And they’re fine with that? My representative says he doesn’t represent Democrats, but he’s fine with representing the SVR?

All the time I heard that liberals were evil or enemies or whatnot, seems to look like projection as well.

Chicago Tribune: Sears CEO still committed to turnaround, but signs are tough to see

Sears sold its Craftsman tool brand to Stanley Black & Decker earlier this year for $900 million. The 2015 sale of 235 stores to real estate investment trust spinoff Seritage Growth Properties — an entity in which Lampert also holds a stake — raised $2.72 billion, and spinning off the Lands’ End brand brought in a $500 million cash dividend in 2014.

I was at Sears when we bought Lands’s End back in 2002 for $2 billion. And now he’s systematically setting up new entities in which he’s got ownership and basically stip-mining Sears Holdings into bankruptcy while simultaneuosly running it INTO bankruptcy.

Only in America…..

What is wrong with them? Are they all compromised?

Maybe quite a few are. Hacks were done to both sides. Dems had their info “modified” and released timed to be damaging or distracting. GOP had their info used for leverage.

They don’t all have to have treasonous info against them, it could be simple affairs, fetishes, embarrassing personal details that they didn’t want exposed.

Perhaps, many Republicans caught up in this were threatened with exposure, and instead of owning their faults and foibles they played along, just once is all it takes.

Then the person who was blackmailing them has a new piece of info over their heads, and a new request can be made, even if that has always been for silence.

This is my working theory on most republicans currently… I wonder how pathetic some of the compromising info actually is…

But if many people are taken down, if all the behind the scenes rumors are remotely true, then I wonder how the Right Wing will ever accept this. I always think they are a few decisions away from violence, but given the polarization, the alternate realities we live in, this time, I don’t see how they don’t freak out.

On top of that, I was invited to a wedding dinner* at noon today, then informed by my friend (the bride) that her asshat father had canceled the dinner because he’s an asshat. (My words. I’m not sure how asshat translates into Chinese.)

* Chinese weddings are different from American ones. Generally speaking, the couple get married by presenting themselves at the local marriage office, signing some papers, and getting their photos taken together for the marriage license, which each partner receives. Associated celebrations can be much later, timed to coincide with a national holiday to enable people to travel to the celebration. So, this particular wedding party was unusual, being in the middle of the week on a regular day. My friend told me she now realizes the party was just an excuse for her father (he and her mom divorced when she was 3) to show off for his businessmen friends, and not really about celebrating the marriage of his daughter.

Her father is also a drunk. And his second wife is a year *younger* than his daughter.

I’m old enough to remember when the big worry was how we were going to explain to our Armed Forces how a candidate running to be their Commander-in-Chief had been careless with national secrets.

I watched a bit of 11th Hour with good ol’ Brian Williams and saw this clip. It was a very creative video intro to the piece…the first two minutes are damning to Trump.

Warning: Might make you nauseous, Trump’s whiny ass voice and over-the-top bullshit can be dangerous in large dozes.

Prediction right now: The wingnut excuse for this will be that Trump did nothing wrong, the person who did something wrong was the one who told WaPo about the leak in the first place. That they should be found and prosecuted for revealing classified information to the media.

Most people born in the baby boom generation are greedy assholes that are ruining everything and they’re racist as fuck.

Most people born in the millennial generation are entitled silver spoon fuckers who are greedy and racist as fuck.

See? I bet 99% of everybody that read those two sentences got pretty pissed off and hopefully discounted them as asinine and total bullshit.

An impossibly large group of people (folks born at a certain time, folks aged so-and-so) being judged for the sins of a few powerful people in those large groups is fucking stupid. Enough with this generational bashing bullshit!

So true:

In Trump’s telling, every meeting was scheduled for 15 minutes but his guests stayed two hours because they liked him so much.

Won’t work. The only thing that will is an FBI agent or five having accidents while cleaning their guns, while said guns are pointed at the pseudo-President and his cabinet.

I’m just saying that this is who he is, and nothing will ever change that. No matter which advisers he has, no matter who tries to “babysit” him, as long as he’s in the White House, this is how it will be. The FBI moved heaven and earth to make it this way, and there’s really only one way they can atone. They won’t do it, of course. They wanted this guy in charge.

Exactly-Trump’s death turns him into a martyr. Having him impeached, tried, conviced and removed from office, and potentially facing criminal indictments and prison time, will be much more damaging.

Exactly. “That way” would only make him a sympathetic character and result in the most vomit-worthy media hagiography you can imagine -_- (to say nothing about giving the GOP and its vile base the ultimate “durr hurr, libs are the real terrorists!!1!!” ammunition)

(now if something like that were to happen and not succeed a la Stephen King’s “The Dead Zone”…though his supporters and the GOP would totally say he, as president, had a right to use the baby as a human shield)
