Wait till Mueller starts investigating Trump’s real estate scams, and the current sale of Trump’s Caribbean castle, etc. Mueller will be stonewalled I suspect.

I have no faith that Mueller will ever prosecute what needs to be done.

OTOH, if he constantly subpoenas Trump, just the sheer irritation it would cause Trump may be enough to put the latter over the edge.

I suppose it depends on who “they” are. Personal staff whose jobs depend on a Trump presidency? Or GOP functionaries who are waiting for the Republican herd to turn so they can stay in the middle of that herd.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016 exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

The terms are used interchangeably, as near as I can find in the lay literature.

I think the operative word is the verb “prosecute”. Mueller may never prosecute, even if he spends years investigating.

And throughout all this 35% of our population, The Deplorables, will continue to back Trump and vote solidly Republican. Many of my close and extended family included.

There is no amount of actual real world Republican crimes, traitorous behavior, or grotesque character flaws that will enable them to vote Dem. They are robotically wired by Fox News for an ideological war against the world and Reason despite most of the platform being against their own self-interests.

Do I remember you saying not all that long ago nothing will be done, no special prosecutors, no special investigations and the GOP would do everything they could do to stop any of it from happening? Or, am I wrong?

So the Republicans were joking about the inexplicable fondness that Trump and Rohrabacher have for Putin but that didn’t lead them to take any action at all. And, like all Republicans, they denied this conversation occurred until they were confronted with an actual tape of the session. As with the White House, you cannot believe a word from any of them.

I was actually going to ask. I don’t know how he rates on the scale of 1 to “oh fuck yes”.

Mueller is a solid eight or nine; he served for twelve years under both W and Obama, so ‘bipartisan’ and ‘experience’ are both checked. But, seeing that he’s now a special counsel under the jurisdiction of the DoJ means that Pumpkin Pinochet is going to fire him too when he starts getting too close.

When I see the news these days, I’m often reminded of the scene from It’s A Wonderful Life, right after George Bailey marries Mary Hatch, and as they’re about to go away on their honeymoon, there’s a run on the bank and the Building And Loan.

George goes to check on things to find the place is full of desperate shareholders. He says, “Now folks, it’s important to remember that things aren’t as dark as they seem!”

Just then you hear the sound of a couple police cars going by, sirens blaring.

That’s what it must be like in the Trump White House. They see the WashPo article on McCarthy’s “Putin pays Trump” thing, and just when somebody tries to make it seem okay, the news drops about the Special Counsel.

I was quite young in Mueller’s tenure as FBI director but he always struck me as a professional and definitely not beholden to party politics. I believe he is a registered Republican but that definitely won’t color how he handles this.

If Trump doesn’t fire Mueller, it looks like we’ll get a decent investigation of Russiagate.

If Trump does fire Mueller, pretty much everyone except total Trump/GOP dead enders will take that as proof of Trump’s guilt.

Not quite. The House can impeach on a simple majority (as it disgracefully did in 1998), but it then goes to “trial” in the Senate where a 2/3 majority (i.e. 67 votes) is needed to actually remove the impeached official.

Anyone think 20 or so Senate Republicans will actually vote to defenestrate The Donald?

A lot of that - and again, I know I sound like a broken record on this topic - is up to us as voters. Can we apply enough pressure that it becomes impossible to ignore? I would argue what has happened with the Special Counsel - something that Republicans were starting to call for as well - says that it’s possible.

A lot of that - and again, I know I sound like a broken record on this topic - is up to us as voters. Can we apply enough pressure that it becomes impossible to ignore? I would argue what has happened with the Special Counsel - something that Republicans were starting to call for as well - says that it’s possible.

I confess to smugly watching my Congressperson (Jackie Speier) and my two Senators doing their jobs thoroughly without my input. They’re already doing exactly what I want.

It has been speculated that Vice President Pence is as dirty in this whole Russiagate thing as The Donald himself.

Yeah, but to keep his badly-coiffed creepy-pious ass out of the Oval Office, he’d have to be tossed first (i.e. Spiro-Agnewed) - unfortunately Mike Dense is either too honest/lucky/stupid (take yer pick) to have the kind of dirty laundry that would merit him the boot.

But we can always hope…..

Adelson, the Mercers and the Koch brothers could get impeachment through the House with one conference call to House leadership. This will happen if the GOP plutocrats decide that Trump is bad for business or bad for the ‘GOP brand’.

Well, the Koch’s seem fairly pragmatic, but Adelson was the only thing keeping Noot alive in 2012, and the Mercers are crazier than a shithouse rat.

Pence could be even dirtier than Trump. Russian agitprop has been working the religious right for several years now and a theocrat politician would be an early and obvious target, though not such an easy as the various evangelists and conspira-liars. It’s even possible that the Russians, in effect, pushed him on Trump.

Leave the ‘nets for a few hours and all fucking hell breaks loose.

Mueller’s Special Counsel. That’s pretty big news by itself.

But wait, there’s more.

Flynn and Manafort are both subject to multiple grand jury requests/subpoenas for info and are the center of attention of a wide ranging investigation.

But wait, there’s more.

Then there’s that Flynn, Scalise, and McCarthy caught on tape “joking” about Trump and Roarbacher being on the Putin payroll.

Any of these would be blockbuster news, but each literally rolls over and into the next.

In fact, that’s almost how Trump’s rolled since he jumped into the campaign in the first place.

Nonstop scandals, and everyone fucking knew Trump appeared dirty, but the GOP simply didn’t care. Now we’re learning just how dirty the whole frickin’ party is.

GOP should never recover from this (but knowing voters as I think we do here, there’ll be about 40% who don’t care if Trump murdered 100s - they’ll still back the fucker).

Holy jumping Jesus on a pogo stick. I guess we might end up with President Hatch. Hatch is 83 years old.

Hatch knew what was going on when he suddenly reversed gears and announced that he would run for re-election after previously announcing he was retiring after this term.

The thought of ending his professional life as President Hatch is apparently just too alluring.

We have has some biggies in Ohio. The 1974 Xenia Ohio one was about as bad as it gets. It blew that city up as if it bombed by a small nuke. F5 and some say F5 doesn’t really capture the furry of that storm.

As I recall (I was a paperboy for the Detroit Free Pres at the time), the Xenia newspaper’s office was blown apart by that tornado, yet they managed to get their daily issue out the next day. They won a Pulitzer Prize for that feat.

Joe’s law firm represents Trump.

Trump picks people who he thinks are loyal to him.

Trump goes with people he knows, rather than those who aren’t familiar to him.

That’s why he’s on the short list.

That’s also why Democrats should oppose; he’d be a walking conflict of interests re: Trump/Russia and there’s no reason to trust Lieberman to recuse on the matter any more than Sessions did (after all, he weighed in on firing Comey).

If you really want to keep ‘em out of the big city, you send them to Frontier School of the Bible in La Grange, Wyo. (La Grange is a village of 300, about ninety miles west of me.) The nearest city to La Grange is Bridgeport, Nebr. (population 1,100). Cheyenne and Scottsbluff are both over seventy miles away.

There is nothing to do in La Grange except for a Mennonite-run restaurant across the street from the school, and the village public library (our library has donated books to theirs).

The school only teaches the New Testament as “it should be taught,” and how to run church programmes and missionary work.

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but a good friend of mine lived on a large hill top in Bellville Ohio about 110 miles or so Northeast of Xenia. A couple days after the storm, my friend’s father was out mowing the frontal area of the road on the hill top of the 150 acres they owned. He saw a pile of trash, or so he thought and was thinking someone had stopped along the road and ran back on the slope of a hill from the road and dumped their trash. He got to checking and it was a pile of documents, photos and other stuff deposited from the Xenia tornado. I will never forget that.

Night Lizards. Time to find a warm place to spend the night. See you in A.M.

It sure is warm in Ohio. Got to 90° today in Columbus. My car was showing 93° around 3:00 PM. Too damn hot for the middle of May in Ohio. With cold coming, we are probably going to pay for this with storms.

re: #284 ObserverArt

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but a good friend of mine lived on a large hill top in Bellville Ohio about 110 miles or so Northeast of Xenia. A couple days after the storm, my friend’s father was out mowing the frontal area of the road on the hill top of the 150 acres they owned. He saw a pile of trash, or so he thought and was thinking someone had stopped along the road and ran back on the slope of a hill from the road and dumped their trash. He got to checking and it was a pile of documents, photos and other stuff deposited from the Xenia tornado. I will never forget that.

After my home in Liberty, Mo. was destroyed, the town set up a collection point in a storefront on the square for people to bring in things found from residents and businesses. People from all over Missouri sent things to them.

what did he say about Chobani?

They hire a lot of refugees. He called them sub-human rapists and criminals, insulted the owner of the company and the people of Twin Falls.

The owner dropped a lawsuit on him and he had to retract. After which he crawled off the porch and underneath it with the other whining little puppies. Big man, our Alex, big man.

Isn’t this the same effect as a “upside down wing” racecar design of the late 70s? Fast air passes over the top of slow air and creates a huge vacuum. It sticks the car to the ground. The reverse of a wing on an airplane. Since then the design is not allowed, but once engineers understand a principle they get to finding other ways to create an upside down wing effect, Aerodynamics.

In the case of staying under a bridge, I would think you could get sucked right out from the vacuum of the high-speed air from a tornado passing over it.

Pretty much. Even if it didn’t increase the wind speeds, it still blocks the highway - people will start parking and climbing up 5 or 10 minutes before the tornado might arrive and it creates a cascade effect, plus blocks the roads for emergency crews.

You see it a lot in some of the more modern videos of chases, and that’s before we really got into the chasing-as-reality-show phenomenon that …well, let’s just say this is not one of those “filled with glory” chapters.

They know. The fucking GOP admitted it KNOWS that Russia is attacking our country, that they installed Trump as president because it will DESTROY the United States of America, and they don’t give a shit, because they just want to get their tax cuts for rich assholes through.

I just got BLASTED with hard rain and wind here. Couldn’t see across the street for a couple minutes. Now we’re back to rain and no wind.

There’s tornado watch for all of the MN counties south of me but we’re not in it. Looks like some more nasty stuff will be moving in pretty soon.

Prosecutors say police knew Terence Crutcher killing was ‘bad shoot’

The other officers around Tulsa cop Betty Jo Shelby knew it was a “bad shoot” after she shot and killed Terence Crutcher, prosecutors said.

A jury heard closing arguments in Shelby’s manslaughter trial Wednesday morning, and was left to deliberate on a verdict for the killing that sparked nationwide outrage.

Shelby stopped after seeing Crutcher, a 40-year-old father of four, in the middle of a road on Sept. 16, opening fire after he refused commands to lie down.

The officer, 43, has claimed she believed that the motorist, whose hands were seen up in video of the shooting, may have been reaching into his car for a gun.

There were 4 other cops there, none of whom fired a weapon.

Speaker Paul Ryan’s direct quote about Russians interfering in our elections and trying to destabilize the U.S.

“He has this really interesting riff about… people have said that they have Ukraine fatigue, and it’s really Russian fatigue because what Russia is doing is doing to us, financing our populists, financing people in our governments to undo our governments, you know, messing with our oil and gas energy, all the things Russia does to basically blow up our country, they’re just going to roll right through us and go to the Baltics and everyone else.”

They know. The fucking GOP admitted it KNOWS that Russia is attacking our country, that they installed Trump as president because it will DESTROY the United States of America, and they don’t give a shit, because they just want to get their tax cuts for rich assholes through.

You may be misinterpreting. I read that as Ryan parroting a Ukranian whose theory that was that Russia was using vast resources to destabilize the Ukranian Government. That would explain the “right through us to the Baltic” comment.

It was impressive.

“Most of the Trumpers are quiet on Facebook, at least on my stream… but there are some Trumpers on Facebook who are really, really deep into the denial.”

My youngest brother, who lives in Seattle, and I were discussing this same thing a couple hours ago. Most right-wingers who voted for Trump were 100% sure he could do the things he talked about in his campaign. They were also 100% sure that the federal government could be run like a business and so was Trump. They were also 100% sure that he was a strong, ethical person who could fulfill all of their dreams. I’m enjoying the hell out of witnessing them ducking, dodging, and hiding, seeking “safe” spaces. I may sound like a cruel person, but I believe they deserve every bit of what they’re reaping in regard to the lying, seditious[if not treasonous,] incurious, narcissistic, loud-mouth, self-absorbed, needy, whiny, SOB they voted for. What also makes me smile is that these are the same persons who “hated” #44, called him every ugly name under the sun and constantly accused him of abusing the powers of his office. They missed the real Monster-in-Chief who was standing before them, feeding them a steady stream of lies they feasted upon. They’re getting exactly what they deserve. I have zero sympathy for them because we warned them, but they chose not to listen to us.

This makes no sense to me, especially coming from a guy who has spent the last couple years winding up his robot followers and convincing them to believe that the MSM is their biggest enemy. I stopped believing anything Trump said after he began his campaign by lying about undocumented immigrants. I knew from that point going forward, that he is willing to say anything he thinks/believes whether it’s true or not.

And in another parallel to Watergate, Trump’s defenders will now ape Nixon’s in claiming that the entire investigation is a grand plot to destroy his presidency…oh wait, they’ve been doing that for months.

My guess is that Trump is having this meeting “off the record” because the meeting will consist of his attempt to bully them into disclosing the sources of White House leaks, and threatening to arrest them if they don’t comply.

I am sure there are lawyers trying to tell him to shut up, stay low and let this play out…anything you do will not be in your best interest.

Willful stupidity needs to have painful consequences. That’s the only way we can possibly get less of it going forward.

Well, I wrote my comment for the National Monuments review. Hat tip to lawhawk for the direct link (here if you want to add your voice and haven’t yet).

My comment text is below.

I am writing to express my displeasure with the attempt to remove National Monument status from several areas of our country that have been designated as such over the past 20 years. These are parts of the country that offer unique and in many cases irreplaceable opportunities for exploring our natural world. To walk among the trees at Giant Sequoia or explore the otherworldly landscape of Craters of the Moon are only two reasons out of a multitude to protect these lands, rather than opening them up to potentially destructive drilling, mining, or logging. We have already lost so much of what our forefathers took for granted; it is past time to protect something for us and for our children.

Managed properly, these lands will provide oases for generations to come, allowing Americans to experience the world as it was before humans tried to shape it to their own vision. I know that my husband and I are far from the only people who travel to see places like that, spending money to support the local economies. Do the right thing and preserve the National Monuments for the future instead of selling them out now for short-sighted gain that the American people will gain no benefit from.

Gotta just keep juggling.

Also, if the viaduct is knocked off it’s pylons by a tornado, everyone under it is crushed. Moreover, tornado-driven debris under a viaduct which acts like a wind tunnel will pummel people with two hundred mph moving debris, severely injuring them or killing them.
