This happens in deposition all the time:

Q: what happened that day?
A: nothing happened
Q: here’s a document that your office wrote about what happened. Is it accurate?
A: yes, but nothing inappropriate happened
Q: here’s a second, more detailed, document that says what happened. Is this accurate?
A: I don’t remember

90% of the time, if they’re asking these questions, they’ve already got the answers and the documents to back it up.

It’s not one of the BIG breakout years is it?

I still remember one when I was probably 15 or so, and the parks in my old hometown had the ground covered in discarded bodies. Some places they were stacking up. I’ve not seen one as big as that since.

23
KGxvi  May 21, 2017 • 11:32:34am

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the president receiving awards from foreign nations, but this makes me chuckle:

In a litany of tweets, [Roger] Stone berated Saudi Arabia as “the enemy” and slammed Trump for accepting the Order of Abdulaziz from King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

“Candidly this makes me want to puke,” he wrote.

If this is ultimately what causes Trump to lose his base, it’s even better.

Of course, CNN also fucks up the story by suggesting a tweet from Trump from May 10 was about this (wherein he calls the CNN Roger Stone stories “fake news”)… but maybe they’re just being proactive for when that tweet does come?

EDIT: ok, reading it again, the May 10 tweet is referenced in the context of earlier stories about Stone, but if you’re skimming the story, the mix up is fairly easy, especially since they embed the tweet.

The car I was concerned about parked for up to four hours at a time 3-4 times a week and the guy never got out of his car. I did call the cops one night and he hasn’t been around as much, but he was out there for about an hour this afternoon. It’s just kind of creepy and weird. There’s a woman at the end of the block who was in an abusive relationship that she finally ended after the cops got called a couple times. The car can watch her house in the rear view where it usually parks.

This nation was founded on ideas that the Nazis thought were so good they went on to use them themselves.

As they drafted their own laws to exclude German Jews from public and civic life, Nazi lawyers carefully studied how the United States suppressed nonwhite immigrants and consigned minorities to second-class citizenship. In private hearings, they discussed how the U.S. model for white supremacy in the Jim Crow South could be transposed to Germany and inflicted on the Jews.

The Nazis were keenly influenced by America’s laws forbidding interracial marriage. Dozens of states not only banned black-white unions but subjected violators to lengthy jail sentences. The harsh criminalization of mixed-race marriages in America set an example for the Nazis as they created their Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour, which forbade German Jews from marrying non-Jews, invalidated existing mixed marriages and sent offenders to prison labor camps.

This is American Exceptionalism in all its glory.

Also ignores that women could not vote until 1920. Equality for the founders often meant white men of certain privileges.

Some states let unmarried women who owned land vote. NJ also had something that approached universal sufferage at the founding. But then voting rights were rolled back around 1807.

Like King said, the moral arch of the universe bends towards justice. And that is history, really: slow, unsteady, messy progress towards a better world. The concept of right reason and common law are based on the idea that the truth is universal but we don’t necessarily understand it. We are working our way towards the truth through experience

This country has always been a mixture of all sorts of idea, including the ugly. The current crop of Trumpers is nothing new.

Before the modern era, newspapers carried short takes from other papers, to fill columns. Here is a blurb found in an Ohio newspaper during the Civil War, from a northern newspaper in NY:

Go and read any of the newspapers up through the end of the war, even from Northern states. Many papers are online at Chronicling America. You will find plenty of newspapers full of bigotry. The abolitionists, the radicals, won the day, but it was far from unanimous.

As I said yesterday, I’m not sure how I feel about American presidents receiving awards/medals from foreign governments, but most of this is just fucking stupid. And of course it doesn’t help that his first international stop was to visit “our friends” the Saudis.

The thing which utterly pissed me off though?

Russia interfered in the election partly by using social media trolls, fake stories and bots to undermine Clinton. Who the fuck do the Berniebots think was being manipulated? Everything was done to leech off support for her. The Russians knew that the average dem was not going to go to Trump, so they concentrated on giving reasons to hate Clinton, and in my opinion that is why Sanders and Stein got so many votes.

These Bots are useful idiots of Russia, as much as Trump is. They reacted to Russians influence as the nutjobs did.

The underlighting is especially creepy.

I wonder about the ratio of anti-extremism vs. pro-extremism expenditures.

When you spend billions of petro-bucks across the Islamic world building Madrasas and then funding the teaching of the Wahabiism, then put on a light show to open a center whose sole purpose seems to be stopping the teaching of Wahabiism to prevent Islamic Extremist philosophy…

This attitude is what’s going to give Fuckface Von Clownstick a second term and Republifucks control of both houses of congress.

I actually agree - they must address the forces that created Trump.

But those forces aren’t economic. Those forces are cult media, fake news, and racism.

If you mean disingenuous ratfucking rhetoric from the most extreme BoBs, you’d be correct, but I think the substance of what Robert Reich says is true - check the twitter feed of Kirsten Gillibrand for an example of effective Dem messaging for 2018. She manages to walk and chew gum at the same time, criticizing trump but also talking about domestic Dem policies that HELP Americans (and in doing so, she draws a contrast with the GOP’s endless garbage)

Look at this:

and this:

Those are winning messages, simple enough for even the lowest of low-info voters to understand.

yeah… all that shit that Hilary had on her website to actually try and address those issues… and NOBODY from the media gave a shit about it and they turned off the fucking TV’s when she talked about it because it wasn’t about her e-mails….

True, although the economic forces play an indirect role - indirect in that they make it harder for low-income Americans to vote (e.g. lack of time off, too expensive/time-consuming to obtain ID, etc) and they also resulted in voter apathy among groups that might have otherwise voted Dem (a learned-helplessness type thing, the feeling that no matter who you vote for, nothing will change).

I know, but you work with the electorate and media you have, not the ones you wish you had :/ Remember the moron trump supporter who credited him with a minimum wage increase actually brought in by state Democrats? Maybe that trump voter is so willfully stupid and racist he never would have given Dems credit in any event, but maybe it also behooves Dems to find other ways of getting their message out, since obviously the craptastic media won’t help. How about billboads in these rust-belt towns with statements like, “O HAI WE JUST RAISED YOUR WAGES. YOU’RE WELCOME. LOVE, STATE DEMS”? (you may think it sounds silly, but I’m serious - you want to win elections in the US these days? Learn to be a dumbfuck whisperer. Not all of them are irredeemable bigots).

These are good thoughts, but I don’t believe they will work. The Republican base is a cult. They will believe only what they are told from sources that have enslaved them. You could show them any message, any evidence, and they will only do what their media tells them to. It’s not really about irredeemable bigotry, it’s about deprogramming.

I realize we can’t see most of Melania’s face, but what little we can see…the smirk is just…oh…dear…

That’s because she is touching King Salman’s arm. Look at his expression!
