CNN: Comey Will Testify That Trump Pressured Him to End FBI Investigation Into His Russia Ties

Obstruction of justice, here we come
Politics • Views: 42,565

CNN is reporting today that when former FBI director James Comey testifies to Congress next week, he plans to confirm that Donald Trump did indeed try to pressure him into dropping the FBI investigation in the Trump gang’s ties with Russia.

Fired FBI director James Comey plans to testify publicly in the Senate as early as next week to confirm bombshell accusations that President Donald Trump pressured him to end his investigation into a top Trump aide’s ties to Russia, a source close to the issue said Wednesday.

Final details are still being worked out and no official date for his testimony has been set. Comey is expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russia during last year’s presidential election.

[…]

When he testifies, Comey is unlikely to be willing to discuss in any detail the FBI’s investigation into the charges of possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign — the centerpiece of the probe, this source said. But he appears eager to discuss his tense interactions with Trump before his firing, which have now spurred allegations that the president may have tried to obstruct the investigation. If it happens, Comey’s public testimony promises to be a dramatic chapter in the months-long controversy, and it will likely bring even more intense scrutiny to an investigation that Trump has repeatedly denounced as a “witch hunt.”

We’re getting closer and closer to proof that the Trump administration engaged in a coverup and attempted obstruction of justice.

The Wall Street Journal now confirms CNN’s report.

Won’t matter when we have a do-nothing Congress afraid to govern for the country instead of their own bottom lines.

Is it really a cover up if we all saw it as it was happening?

Targetpractice  May 31, 2017 • 10:55:34am

We’ll only hear two questions from the Republicans on the committee, repeated over and over again: “Is there evidence of collusion?” and “Should leakers be prosecuted?” Why? because they’ve no interest in actually deepening the shit they’re currently in.

FNC Host: Now former showboating FBI director Comey, who the president can fire for any reason whenever, is suggesting that the president pressured him to drop his witch hunt investigation into the president’s record-breaking campaign win. But all this is pretty regular conduct for a president, isn’t it, Mr. FNC Guest?

FNC Guest: Of course. Nothing to see here, except a grandstanding former FBI director who politicized his investigation and deserved to be fired.

Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi painted Judith beheading Holofernes in a most physical manner, including running blood. According to the Wikipedia, she painted her mentor, Agostino Tassi, as Holofernes and she is Judith. Apparently, this was Gentilischi’s way of getting even with Tassi after the rape verdict against him was annulled.

Now that is completely badass, compared to Kathy Griffin.

Yeah, and in addition you have GOP congresscritter, Tim Walberg, saying this stupid shit:

“I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I believe there are cycles. Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, He can take care of it.” (My emphasis)

Why do we bother to research medical interventions? After all, God could heal everyone!!!

Why bother to grow crops? God could feed everyone!!!

Why bother to wipe your own ass? God could make clean the unclean!!!

Perhaps. Maybe if Ike runs as a Democrat (or doesn’t run at all), we end up with a scenario where the Dixiecrats become a regional party in the South (constantly fucking shit up on Civil Rights); making them somewhat analogous to the Liberal Party in the UK. Usually not big enough to have a majority, but occasionally needed to form a working government?

Or maybe it gets worse? Maybe the Dixiecrats are able to so control the South politically that almost every election gets sent to Congress and we end up with a President Wallace and Vice President Thurmond by 1960.

Once Nixon resigned, the Democrat was a pretty sure bet to win the presidency in 1976. The pardon didn’t help, but the immensity of Watergate was probably great enough to decide the ‘76 election three years earlier.

You may be right there. I was just musing what ifs.

BTW—for everyone excited by the fact that the NYT got rid of Kate Spayd as Public Editor—they not only got rid of Spayd, they eliminated the Public Editor altogether.

Sulzberger wrote Wednesday that “our followers on social media and our readers across the internet have come together to collectively serve as a modern watchdog, more vigilant and forceful than one person could ever be.”

Yeah, because the Times has been SO responsive to reader input. Spit.

Almost certainly true: but unfortunately, Trump’s mob ties (as are probably all NY RE “moguls’”) are likely to be shielded by layer after layer of middlemen, contractors, sub-contractors, front companies, etc.; it’s the way both the moguls and the mobsters do business: so it’s unlikely (though a pleasant-enough prospect to contemplate) we’re going to find “Paulie Roast Beef” on the WH invite list….

“Evil conservative,” I know, I’ve read it. But nothing you type is conservative. It’s reactionary. You never actually try to have a conversation. You drop your “clever” little barbs and then never actually engage in any kind of substantive conversation, which apparently you’re feeling defensive about.

I can respect someone who has a coherent philosophy built from strongly held principles. If you think that what’s happening now is just fine, your principles apparently include “it’s okay if it keeps my party in power” because I don’t otherwise see how you can advocate for things like “rule of law” or “justice” without massive hypocrisy.

You aren’t doing anything to actually make this not an “echo chamber,” you’re merely coming in to shit on the floor because you feel like it.

And it would further explain the cagey (and perhaps too cute by half) responses by the FBI about surveillance on Trump tower. When you’ve got all kinds of people in the building, some of whom might have unsavory backgrounds, you don’t want to give away that you’re engaging in surveillance against one or more targets.

Trump surveillance is separate and distinct from that on those mob targets, but depending on how the question was phrased, you could say that the building was under surveillance and not be wrong.

We also now know that there were parties to Trump’s campaign/transition/admin that were under surveillance too.

Is there an intersection of the two that goes beyond the mere landlord/tenant relationship? Well, considering whatever surveillance/paper trail, that remains to be seen.

Oh absolutely. These guys may be crass and awful, but they aren’t stupid. Their businesses are legit, on paper at least, but they have cornered the market on everything used in that business, right down to tools and nails. There’s a whole bunch of people in the middle for protective purposes and our country’s business rules, laws and tax structure make it pretty easy to do with the right accountants, lawyers and corporate structures. It’s pretty gross. I’ve heard Miami is like this too, though to a lesser degree.

But most people who call themselves Conservative are basically authoritarian, racist, theocrats who hide behind the word ‘Freedom’, and will happily give up everyone else’s freedom for their own comfort and the ability to feel safe.

The ‘states rights’ story is very simple. ‘States rights’ has been a real big deal in US history exactly twice: civil war era and at the end of Jim Crow. So it’s real clear what’s important to the ‘states rights’ crowd.

I was always taught to remove outliers but with strict rules. It was always done as:

A. Part of the documented methodology going in, and:
B. Done as a pair, at both the high and low point of the data set.

I agree it’s a kludgey and outmoded way of reducing noise and removing human error. A holdover from when data gathering was done almost entirely by hand.

It absolutely is a boondoggle. We’ve never even tried to simulate real world conditions, things any determined adversary would do like deploy chaff or decoy warheads, tumbling unstable warheads, inbound phase maneuverability. Space X’s rockets are only reusable 10-20 times. I haven’t looked into the stratolaunch at all, but am assuming it essentially replaces the first rocket stage. If that is the case, over time I could see where it could be more cost effective than even space X.

I have my doubts. For one thing the second stage body is going to have to be a lot stronger and hence more massive to deal with the lateral loads produced by being suspended horizontally in flight. Then there’s all the other shit that goes with an airplane that large, maintenance on six turbojets, hydraulics for all those control surfaces, a presumably (maybe not) human flight crew.

You know why we have trade deficits, Donnie Small Hands? Because our economy is doing better than everyone else’s, so our goods are more expensive for them, while theirs are cheaper for us. Also, we have more money, so we can buy more stuff, whereas they have less money, so they can’t buy as much stuff.

Latest WannaCry Theory: Currency Manipulation

Thycotic’s cyber security and digital forensics expert, Joseph Carson, has an alternative theory: the motive behind Wannacry was effectively insider trading following currency manipulation. Bitcoin was the real target….

If you want to manipulate Bitcoin value, he told SecurityWeek, you cause a sudden increase in the number of users. This is most easily measured by the number of Bitcoin wallets in existence. A global ransomware outbreak, demanding payment by Bitcoin, would certainly have such an effect: both direct victims and judicious organizations are likely to obtain wallets.

“WannaCry,” he suggested, “was a sleight of hand, a deception. The ransomware was merely a mechanism to get a large number of people to open a Bitcoin wallet — and that by itself would drive up the value of Bitcoin.” It could almost be described as a version of insider trading based on a sophisticated form of ‘pump and dump’: the criminals could invest in Bitcoin, pump its value through encouraging the growth of wallets, and then dump the Bitcoin to take their profits.

You’d think that, but you’d be wrong. Trump simply parrots talking points because he doesn’t understand concepts like trade imbalances. His supporters don’t know how this works either, so if Trump says it, they believe him.

It’s something that has to be solved - bigly.

Of course, Trump’s solution has nothing to do with trade balances, but will add costs to US consumers (because that’s who ultimately pays for this stuff).

Strong/weak dollar. Types of goods/services purchased/sold. All of that plays into how trade imbalances occur. We want lots of cheap clothes and goods, so we buy them from Vietnam. Vietnam doesn’t need as much sophisticated services or goods (think aircraft, legal/accounting services, etc., and has other places it buys fuel from) so we buy more stuff from Vietnam than they buy from US.

So, what we need to do is to add a tariff to all Vietnamese goods sold in America, so we won’t buy as many!

Of course, then Vietnam’s economy will grow more slowly, so they’ll be even less able to buy American goods, and the trade deficit will grow.

So we’ll have to increase the tariff….

Lather, rinse, repeat. But not to worry - pretty soon OUR economy will crash, too.

He is selling his supporters the notion that Europe can afford its moocher social programs because they do not pay enough for defense, therefore they need to pony up so we are not indirectly paying for those europarasites.

And they have all rejected climate change outright ever since Al Gore and Obama came out in support of it because, well, they have to oppose anything they stand for.

As usual, he has no idea what he’s talking about—remember…

President Trump, according to Huffington Post, called his national security adviser Mike Flynn at 3 a.m. to ask a seemingly straightforward question: Is a strong dollar or weak dollar better for the U.S. economy?

And speaking of geniuses, smarmy Tom Coburn is now a climate scientist. His very insightful commentary goes something like this:

“You know, I went into the Congress in 1995 and they told me the same thing, the oceans are rising,” he continued. “Here we are some 22 years later, right? And what’s the difference? One millimeter? Two millimeters?”

“Is that it?” Varney wondered.

“I don’t know,” Coburn admitted

The National Ocean Service at NOAA reports that the global sea level average in 2014 “was 2.6 inches [66 millimeters] above the 1993 average.” The global sea level average “continues to rise at a rate of about one-eighth of an inch per year,” the report notes.

Another obvious drawback of the Stratolaunch vehicle compared to Space X’s technology is that you can’t strap three of them together like you can with the Falcon 9 first stages to create a Falcon Heavy.

Alternate your use of the front brake and the rear brake. Each rim will cool as you brake on the other. Or get a new bike with disc brakes. Don’t overheat those, either.

That’s a big indictment list and the ripples could go a long way, admittedly including but certainly not limited to Donnie Two-Scoop (I forgot his proper nickname for a minute).

I’m hoping the American people actually hold Trump and the other assholes responsible. I just am not holding my breath. And Republicans don’t care. Party over country every damned time.

Any parachutists in the neighborhood? I bought a little training ‘chute from Amazon to help out with a little trouble I’m having on my bike. There is a hill that’s just too big, and rather than ride the brakes all the way down, or hit 50 mph with a curve at the bottom, I figgered I’d try a little drag chute to limit the top speed I reach. Short story long, I can’t get the little bastard to inflate.

oops had not read this one yet… littlegreenfootballs.com

Been a while since I took a leap but most parachutes open up at a higher speed. 100+

It isn’t deploying because it is caught in a “burble” low pressure area on your back. That’s the cause of a jumper’s ‘pilot chute hesitation’. Jump rig pilot chutes pull out the main (old tech), and they have a spring to assist them.

First time I ever exceeded 40 mph, the bike started to shimmy. Scared the hell out of me! Then I got a professional fit that raised the saddle 1 cm, moved it forward 1 cm, and dropped the bars 1 cm. After that, no shimmy all the way up to 45.

Also no knee pain even after 5 hours and lots of climbing, which was really the point. Money well spent.

Poor Johah, if he spends too much time at NPR, NRO’s pedantic self wlil never want him back.

When I saw it at 11:30 PDT last night, it had already been up for 2 1/2 hours. It took me 5 minutes to scroll down Rich Wilson’s twitter feed far enough to figure out what the hell this ‘covfefe’ kerfuffle was about.

Why is everyone running with coffee from Trumps tweet muff-up?

It is sort of obvious he intended to type “coverage” as he was wanting to slam the negative press he gets.

So, why not lampoon that?

Something like MSNBC has covfefe of Trump, especially Morning Joe, so I get my coverage of Trump from Fox.

Or, Katy Tur is terrible at covfefeing me. Sad!

How about Is CNN still doing covfefe of the Malaysian airliner?

Or maybe the Cable News people can use it in ads.

FOX News covfefe is not the same as actual factual news coverage like CNN? (work with it…I understand CNN has issues)

Or with newspapers.

I can’t take any more f’nin’ crappy political covfefe at The New York Times!

We’ll only hear two questions from the Republicans on the committee, repeated over and over again: “Is there evidence of collusion?” and “Should leakers be prosecuted?” Why? because they’ve no interest in actually deepening the shit they’re currently in.

I don’t understand all this talk about “leakers”. What is the difference between a leaker and a whistleblower? Doesn’t this country protect whistleblowers from retaliation? If there are brave souls leaking information from the White House, they need to be lauded and encouraged because there is some serious mess going on up in there.

Same, I had been watching _Grantchester_, and was like seriously, wtf?

Mrs. FBW had been resting (still nursing her flu), so I took advantage of having the TV all to myself to watch Episode 1 of ‘Band Of Brothers’, which I’ve always thought was one of the best treatments of soldiers in wartime I’ve ever seen.

Halfway through, she came wandering out and sat down. I figured she’d want to watch something else, but when she said, “Can you pause it while I get a drink?”, I knew she was hooked. We ended up watching 3 episodes. She even watched through the D-Day -1 drop, and the taking and defense of Carentan - big, noisy, messy scenes.

THEN I checked a couple twitter feeds before bed, and that’s when I found ‘covfefe’.

The White House (and it’s sycophants in the pundit world) insist that 3% growth is totally doable and it will be enough to totally make Trump’s budget work.

Meanwhile, in the real world, it’s becoming more obvious with each passing week that the economy is struggling to keep the present pace of growth going.

Precisely. Which is what makes the response by so many Trumpers to the idea of a $15 Minimum Wage so galling - you know, where they gleefully post pics of automated kiosks at McDonalds?

I realize that what they’re doing is trying to make their own shitty lives seem better by shitting on somebody else, but seriously, leaving aside the sheer inhumanity of it, we’ve been making rich folks richer and poor folks poorer for 35 years, and the middle class is dwindling, and compensation is stagnant or worse. CLEARLY this isn’t working.

GOP Rep. Tim Walberg says God will ‘take care of’ climate change

Chill out, Earth — the Lord’s got this.

God will “take care of” climate change if it winds up being “a real problem,” a GOP congressman from Michigan suggested in a town hall meeting late last week.

“I believe there’s climate change. I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I think there are cycles,” Rep. Tim Walberg said in video obtained by HuffPost. “Do I think that man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.”

“Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I’m confident that if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

I hope the Rapture will take these idiots away soon, so the rest of us can get on with human progress.

I love how these guys think we can fuck things up as badly as we can, and God will fix it for us. It doesn’t occur to them that their god might decide two chances is all we get, and move on to a more promising species.

Or that not fucking things up was what their god meant by making the Kingdom of Heaven here on Earth.

Before or after he did his Sam Kinison impression?

Netflix has some old Kinnison stuff now. Early 90s was junior high for me, and that was a stretch where I was really into stand up comedy. He was one of my favorites.

I love how these guys think we can fuck things up as badly as we can, and God will fix it for us. It doesn’t occur to them that their god might decide two chances is all we get, and move on to a more promising species.

Or that not fucking things up was what their god meant by making the Kingdom of Heaven here on Earth.

God wrote the laws of physics, and gave us the intellectual capacity to discover and describe those laws, to recognize and measure and predict when those laws suggest matters of cause & effect.

He gave us the free will to do something about it, or not.

I don’t know what kind of toddler thinks God hasn’t met his obligations, and owes us to fix our own self-induced problems for us.

This is the #1 reason Republicans and conservatives must deny reality.

We’ve tried it their way for decades and the results stink on ice.

There was one particular hill outside Bloomington, IN we could get 45-50 mph. Just flat at the bottom. It was a gas!

I was on Hwy. 20 in WA. Nearest medical help would have been a Forest service medic (there were fires, so a medic was near). Facilities would have been on wheels or non-existent.

OK Lizards, I have to go help the Kid sign up for health insurance with his new employer. Since he works for the same company The Husband does, we’ve been getting off the record feedback from his bosses and they are very impressed with him. I’m a proud mama, even if he seems to think working full time excuses him from household chores and such. He’s about to find out what my fees for housekeeping services are. Scaly hugs to all…..

Where I hit 45 was in town, <2 miles from home, about 300 yards from a Fire Station with paramedics.

The biggest issue was ‘will the light at the bottom of the hill stay green?’

I only really got to go 45mph for about 50 yards. But it was cool!

This fuckin’ guy.

This is pretty simple shit. You’d think Wharton might have taught it.

Wharton doesn’t do much economics. That’s taught in the School of Arts and Sciences, which I assume Trump avoided like a Vietnam draft.

Or health care? If everything is in God’s hands and reflects God’s will, why do fundamentalists need doctors or medicine or hospitals? They should just pray and whatever happens is all part of God’s plan.
