After Boasting About How Great It Is for Months, Suddenly Trump Thinks Trumpcare Is “Too Harsh”

Politics • Views: 33,951

After boasting over and over for months that the Trumpcare bill created by evil heartless Republicans was the greatest thing for America since the Manzanar internment camps, and after holding a party with House Republicans in the White House Rose Garden when they passed it, suddenly today Trump is calling it “too harsh.”

President Donald Trump directed Senate Republicans to pass a generous health care bill at a meeting with more than a dozen GOP senators on Tuesday, arguing that the austere House health care bill is difficult to defend, according to people familiar with the meeting.

The president also said Republicans risk getting savaged in the 2018 midterms if they fail to repeal Obamacare after a seven-year campaign against the law.

But he made clear that the Senate needs to pass a bill that Republicans are able to more easily defend and is not viewed as an attack on Americans from low-income households, as the House bill has been portrayed by critics, the sources said. He also advocated more robust tax credits for people who buy insurance on the individual market, a move that would increase the bill’s cost.

Everybody realizes this is just another scheme to trick people into supporting this nightmare health care legislation, right? Health care legislation that the Republican Party hasn’t even released to the public? Health care legislation that’s really nothing more than a massive tax cut for the richest Americans?

But if the Senate Republicans modify it, now Trump can brag that he got them to “improve” it. This is a bait-and-switch con on the national level.

The back and forth, changing direction for no specific reason or without obvious reason is the tactic of abusers — and the mentally ill.

IMHO, he is creating chaos in order to take advantage of it.

I think this is bullshit. Congressional GOPers will make minimal changes to the bill (or no changes and lie that changes were made), Trump will then declare it to be the best thing ever, and the rich will be able to skeet shoot using the poor and the sick as targets just as originally planned.

I guess that goes against that tweeting this morning saying the Dems were gonna let the legislation go through as long as they get some sanctions against Russia.

It’s not official yet, it is very close.

Edward Gillespie (Republican) 43.5% 138,400
Corey Stewart (Republican) 42.9% 136,643
Frank Wagner (Republican) 13.6% 43,234
83% precincts reporting.

As far as Corey Stewart being a miserable asshole that has to use crude porno slang to denigrate political opponents, it’s all true.

RICHMOND — Corey Stewart, a Republican running for Virginia governor in the style of Donald Trump, made this offer to some of the president’s most ardent fans: “Ask me anything.”

And for the next hour on a Reddit comment board Thursday, he responded to whatever came his way.

“What car do you drive daily?” he was asked. “Pickup truck!” he replied. Asked if he supported mass deportation of illegal immigrants, he said: “YES. I will kick them all out.”

He remained game and breezy as the queries veered into territory like this: “Is Bill Clinton a rapist?” “Yes,” Stewart replied.

“Can you confirm that [Virginia Gov.] Terry McAuliffe is a cuck?” someone wrote. “CONFIRMED!” Stewart wrote back.

Stewart, who prides himself on his brash, politically incorrect persona, introduced “cuck” — a slur derived from “cuckold” and popularized by the far right — into the discussion from the start.

“Hey Reddit, I’m Corey Stewart. Republican Candidate for Governor of Virginia and former State Chair for Donald Trump for President,” he began. “The primary election is June 13th. I am opposing the establishment’s handpicked candidate, former Bush guy, RNC chairman, and cuckservative, Ed Gillespie.”

I see it. I also see people looking for answers to questions you cant answer easily and trump did that. He demonized people to answer as to why we have these problems.

I am from massena ny, close to Canada and the akwasasne Mohawk reservation.

Trumps actions and his words have brought an ugliness to the foreground where problems are blamed on the group he says is the problem.

In our poor impovershed destitute area that wants answers it is two things: politicians(they don’t get you) and foreigners (they cause the terrorism, specifically Muslims).

It is scary. Really scary. And they believe it. One guy said fox new is the most believable news site and the only honest new site.

Another trump support though love trump (undid Obama’s laws) but hates Betsy devos as he is a teacher andshe will destroy our education system.

It’s impossible to make this bill more generous, because at its heart, it’s just a tax cut for the wealthy. You can’t take out a trillion dollars in funding and leave the benefits the same or better without making the deficit go up, and they can’t pass a bill with 50 votes if the deficit goes up because of it.

Trump is lying, the GOP is hiding their awful truth from the public, and we all must do what we can to stop it.

Fun fact: The Minnesota volunteer regiments were so small because MN, in addition to being one of the newest states to the Union (admitted 1862), were fighting a war against the Sioux at home that was so vicious, it actually commanded President Lincoln’s personal attention in the middle of the goddamn Civil War and resulted in the largest single-day execution in United States history.

Thanks for the link. The conclusion of this excellent essay is especially strong:

The man in the white house sits, naked and obscene, a pustule of ego, in the harsh light, a man whose grasp exceeded his understanding, because his understanding was dulled by indulgence. He must know somewhere below the surface he skates on that he has destroyed his image, and like Dorian Gray before him, will be devoured by his own corrosion in due time too. One way or another this will kill him, though he may drag down millions with him. One way or another, he knows he has stepped off a cliff, pronounced himself king of the air, and is in freefall. Another dungheap awaits his landing; the dung is all his; when he plunges into it he will be, at last, a self-made man.

He’s a bullshitter. He’s trying to take both sides, and won’t actually resolve on a position until after it’s resolved or there’s a public outcry that can’t be ignored . Not that this will actually stop the bill or anything; the outcome is perpendicular to his want, which is maintain an image of himself as being in control, and/or not to blame for anything that fails.

“I think that is in play. He may think he needs healthcare legislation to win the hearts of America and get everyone to forget about Russia and his grifting. So, some people may be advising him this is a way to save his butt. Like Jared and Ivanka.”

What I really don’t get is Trump asking for more funding for healthcare while promising that Americans’ premiums will decrease and more people will be insured. His brain’s off track if he fails to understand that reducing revenue by giving huge tax cuts to the wealthy while borrowing more money to prop up his failure of a healthcare plan will increase the deficit.

Disappointed, yes but I’m really fucking tired of him always doing this shit and I hope Tom shuns him as a result. I guess that goes against that tweeting this morning saying the Dems were gonna let the legislation go through as long as they get some sanctions against Russia.

This morning’s tweet had the odor of rodent copulators. It mentioned the filibuster, but I was fairly certain that the legislation was being done in such a way as to avoid the filibuster.

“They’re already talking about running him in 2020.”

As a black female, I wouldn’t advise Bernie to do that, or the Democratic Party to permit him to use our infrastructure again to run another presidential campaign. Bernie doesn’t seem to understand that when he “reached out” to “poor, suffering, working class voters,” he offended a lot of Democrats, including black females. It’s true that I don’t know them all, but I’ve talked with a lot of them about Bernie here in GA, and the usual response I’ve received has been: “He needs to sit his ass down.” Black females will take former VP Biden over Sanders any day, and he needs to know this. We supported Clinton over him, and the majority of us will support Mr. Biden over him. He may think he’s a Democratic Party sensation, but he must be informed that alienating key groups of Democratic voters won’t get him in the WH. I know a conman when I see one.

Hey all.

I’ve been more of a lurker/thread catcher-upper-onner over the past couple of weeks. Even though school is out, June tends to be a bit busy in a normal summer. This summer not quite as normal.

My wife just got back from Costa Rica after being there the past two weeks. She helped to chaparone a group of High School students doing research on leafcutter ants in the rainforest there. So I had the chance to play Daddy-Day-Care and get both boys to all the everywheres they need to be.(For anyone who has played, or had kids play super competitive summer baseball, you know how much time it takes)
Costa Rica Seeds of Change Research

And now everyone should be jealous of my wife. After being home for only a few days from Costa Rica(fun went along with the research), the two of us are on our way to a resort in the Dominican Republic on Saturday. I appreciate the discussion and observations of this community. And Jeff Sessions can fuck right the fuck off every fucking cliff all the way to hell.

I went 0 for 2 tonight. Delegate candidate I backed lost too. And hey you’re welcome. I met a lot of great people doing this and I have no regrets. Disappointed, yes but I’m really fucking tired of him always doing this shit and I hope Tom shuns him as a result. I doubt he will but he should and I think everyone should because his My way is the only way attitude is fucking repulsive.

It’s painful when your candidate loses—I definitely know the feeling. I was looking at my ActBlue Account, and of all the candidates I’d given money to through ActBlue, Maggie Hassan is the only one who won an election. And that’s not counting the candidates I’ve given to directly, or held fundraisers for, or phonebanked or…well you get the point.

But we can’t stop. I keep telling myself that there are people like Bakari Sellers on the horizon, and we have to do what we can to make things hopeful for a candidate like him when he decides to run again.

Two bright spots for me this week. Thursday, we’re having our annual dinner to celebrate our scholarship winners from my Dem women’s group. High school seniors—and they totally get it (it’s an essay contest, and these kids are amazing.)

Then on Friday, we’re having an organizing meeting for Emerge South Carolina, part of EmergeAmerica that now has organizations in 20 states to recruit, train and provide a network for Democratic women to run for office.

Bernie’s “revolutionaries” run their mouths while these women run an organization that actually gets women elected to office.

I mean yeah alot of us did support him but as you can point out, it was much more closer in minority communities.” I don’t have much love for Sanders given the way he portrays himself and others. I once respected him. Now, I see him as a jerk.

If I hear them quote that one “Bernie’s the most popular politician” poll ONE MORE TIME. Arrgggh.

Nothing seem black and white sometimes

Welcome to my world.

Brushed aside? They were ready to hand her the keys to the castle—made her leadership, groomed her, encouraged her—then she first decided to run in a statewide race she had no chance of winning and after that, dumped Ohio flat so she could run her mouth on the Bernie trail. If anything, she spit in their faces and told them it was raining.

Could y’all take the phone back to the store and ask them to help unlock it? Your SiL should be on the record as the purchaser, and they might be willing to help unlock it and set up a passcode easier for your mother-in-law to use…

What annoyed me is how he got other Democrats labeled as “establishment” or insufficently progressive because they didn’t support him. I saw it as a sign that he had so few support from his fellow Congressmen and women to be honest. These people deal with Presidents and they concldued that Sanders was not presidential material with few exceptions. 12 years ago I would have been a staunch Sanders supporter- I was a huge Kucinich supporter back then but I’ve grown since then. Unfortunately, some people I knew all those years ago had not and that’s why I kind of resent the image of the dumb Bernie kid. He’s got a lot of foolish older people who fell for his nonsense too.

I still don’t like it honestly but I realize now that most people are qutie nice and happy to listen and if not, well that’s on them not me.

Parrot: (loud, obnoxious, I-know-what-I-did laughter)

I just don’t want liberalism/progressivism to be about what one man wants. As I said over the past winter, what I found about Bernie’s vision despite the talk was from inclusionary. If you’re someone who works for a bank but holds socially liberal views, you’re an enemy in Bernie’s vision for the American left and I must say despite my problems with how the banks are run, that’s not what i want. And I know that kind of rhetoric drives people nuts. The fact of the matter is the way I see Sanders talk about bank employees, it really reminds me of what I hate about how Republicans talk about people who work for the Feds.

Ugh. There’s an ugly line of thunderstorms moving into MN from the SW. That whole quadrant of the state is under a tornado watch. The watch doesn’t include the Twin Cities yet, but it’s on the way. Lots of severe thunderstorm warnings on the west border, but it doesn’t look like there are any active tornado warnings right now. It’s still 80 degrees at 10:17.

The same condition tends to affect both Trumpsters and Bernouts: they all tend to see the world (and everything in it) as black-and-white, cut-and-dry, no deviations, which leads to the same charge of “if you’re not with us, you’re against us”

It’s fucking narrow-minded, unenlightened bullshit that tends to hurt much more than it helps.

According to a link in that tenants’ group site, the Grenfell Tower was “built in the 1970s”, and recently had an £8MM (?) renovation. It seemed to be a fairly thorough gut-out, and, besides the low standards of modern British construction, I’m guessing that there may have been some wiring/plumbing/HVAC work left undone, or badly done that sparked the fire. And the bad management practices the group was complaining about probably didn’t help.
Here in NYC, our building management co. regularly send the residents fire-safety material: I usually glance at it and file it or toss it: I think I’ll change my practice from now on.

Here in NYC, our building management co. regularly send the residents fire-safety material: I usually glance at it and file it or toss it: I think I’ll change my practice from now on.

I heard an interview of a guy on one of the lower floors who described what sounded like an ‘appliance explosion’ in the flat next to his. He knew right away that he should get out.

re: #230 Joe Bacon

This brings back memories of May 4 1988 when my Mom called me at 130 in the morning asking if I was OK. She couldn’t sleep and she put on the TV, watching CNN cover the fire in the First Interstate Bank Building in Downtown LA. I still remember how worried she was and it took a good half hour to calm her down and let her know I was more than 35 blocks away from it. I do remember going outside and looking at it and HOLY CRAP! I thought it was The Towering Inferno in real life!

Although firefighting has advanced a lot in the 43 years since The Towering Inferno came out, this bit about high-rise firefighting is still pretty much true:

Chief O’Halloran: Now you know there’s no sure way for us to fight a fire in any place above the seventh floor, but you guys just keep building them as high as you can.

If I lived in a high rise, I’d have parachutes for my family and I. Not kidding.

re: #254 Teukka

I don’t know, Pat. What do your close friends in “Third Rome” Moscow, who according to you are leading the God-sanctioned war against “Western Hedonism” say?
