Stand Back! Tommy Emmanuel Burns It Down: “Tall Fiddler”

Music • Views: 33,750

That’s all I have to day: stand back and be ready to catch your jaw before it hits the floor.

Live! At The Ryman was recorded live at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN on 27 February 2016, except “Eva Waits” which was recorded on 8 December 2016 at the Big Room in Chico, CA.

This is a genuine “had to be there”…no fix ups…no frills recording. Each of my guitars has pickups and microphones that are included when you buy them, so the sound you hear from this recording is exactly as it sounds in the hall. Grab the new album Live! at the Ryman here wmbg.lnk.to

Whenever Trump denies or deflects something, you can be sure he’s the guilty party. He’s making life easy for the prosecuting attorneys.

There are two options.

1) He is dirty as shit.
2) He is such a terrible judge of human character that he can’t help but to hire completely compromised aides and other frauds and put them in incredibly important positions.

People jump to the conclusion that #1 is likely true, but having a corrupt white house is really just as impeachable. Remember, impeachment is a political charge, not a legal one.

State Assembly backs U.S. constitutional convention, passes bill limiting agency rules

Wisconsin would join states requesting an unprecedented convention to amend the U.S. Constitution under a measure that passed the state Assembly Wednesday.

The resolution requests the convention “for the limited purpose of requiring the federal government to operate under a balanced budget.” It passed the Assembly on a 54-41 vote, with seven Republicans joining Democrats in opposition.

Meanwhile, Gov. Scott Walker will be next to act on a separate bill that would give lawmakers power to block administrative rules put forth by state agencies. That bill also passed the Assembly Wednesday.

For the resolution seeking a convention to amend the U.S. Constitution, the state Senate would be the next stop. Its fate in that chamber is uncertain.

One other thing about today’s attack by the nutjob against Congressional Republicans: people on the left have been unanimous in their condemnation of the perpetrator’s actions.

Now let’s compare how the right reacted to when Gabby Giffords was nearly killed by a rightwing gunman: (note image behind spoilers has been posted on numerous right-wing sites and is easily found in a Google search. Hidden because even though it is SFW, it is still pretty damn disgusting - almost as bad as how many of these ghouls claimed her attempted murder was a hoax)

Demanding sensible gun control legislation is not politicizing anything. That’s what Democrats should speak about in the wake of yesterday’s shooting. The shooter should never have had access to guns given his violent background. That’s how all other democratic countries do things.

I’ve seen several “conservative” commentators on the usual shows since yesterday bring up “heated rhetoric” and why it’s time for Democrats to take responsibility and cool things off. Not until they show even an inkling of the scale of the issue and their own culpability can they be taken seriously.

And on guns, Tom Brokaw asked Rep. Rodney Davis (Illin-oy) to consider more broadly yesterday’s events: given the UPS shooting three dead and a shooter dead by suicide in the context of Alexandria, does this give lawmakers more incentive to finally discuss how quickly Americans turn to guns to solve problems and the need for solutions? Davis: I absolutely agree that we get too heated up too quickly; I have many Democrat friends; Americans should be more like me. So, the answer is: no, of course not. Guns are off the table as usual.

How could anybody you know ever buy a house (or even cars FFS) or send their kids to college if borrowing was seen as fiscally wrong? How would companies get off the ground? See, the wingnuts have decided that since there’s absolutely no evidence of collusion (that they know of), then there can’t been a crime committed. So if there was no crime committed, then actions taken to stall or kill the investigations doesn’t constitute obstruction of justice.

Which you know as well as I do, they would not be saying if it were a Democrat involved.

And conveniently, no evidence of collusion would convince them. Same people also claim Russia didn’t do the hacking or interfering, or if they did, then it was OK.

Let’s also say how fucking STUPID a balanced budget amendment is.

No borrowing would mean we can’t be the world’s reserve currency anymore. Also… how the fuck would we have ever built the transcontinental railroad, or won WWII, without borrowing? How could anybody you know ever buy a house (or even cars FFS) or send their kids to college if borrowing was seen as fiscally wrong? How would companies get off the ground? How would there be any capital investments in ANYTHING?

Balanced budget shouldn’t be a problem. We can handle it the Trump way: declare bankruptcy, keep our assets, and shed our liabilities!!

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. The widely expected Tweet storm from Trump came, with entirely predictable results.

Salem witch hunt. The Red Scare of the 1950s. I could go on.

Oh wait, your history doesn’t reach that far back? How about Benghazi or Obama’s birth certificate? Trump actually figures prominently in the latter, claiming that he had evidence Obama wasn’t a US citizen, and spewed nonsensical ravings all over the Twitterverse endlessly to that end.

There’s so much projection going on here, that Trump’s destined to put IMAX out of business. It’s what Trump does, but Trump’s tweets aren’t meant to be consumed by the media or people with knowledge and understanding of facts. It’s meant for his ahistorical followers who don’t know and don’t care about anything other than what Trump says.

Prosecutors and investigators have a different mindset, and they use those tweets to go to Trump’s actions and state of mind, and the courts have likewise determined Trump tweets are equivalent to press releases from the WH, which helped strike down Trump’s Muslim ban in the 9th Circuit.

And yet, there’s people who still think that Trump will eventually figure out how the presidency works, and stop with the nonsense. They aren’t learning just as surely as Trump wont - Trump has spent decades doing these very things - lying, bullying, projecting on to others what he does himself and Trump is never ever going to change. The media needs to drop all pretenses that Trump will somehow learn and grow into the role.

He’s pathologically incapable of doing that. Five seconds of “presidential acts” like issuing a statement following the shooting yesterday is overwhelming by this morning’s tweets, which is all part of the pattern that Trump does.

Trump will continue being his own worst enemy by signaling all the criminality and actions he’s engaged in and inadvertently admitting the same.

You know, I never thought about it like that. I mean obviously a balanced budget is an understandable goal but you’re 100% right.

It’s actually a moronic goal. The US needs to maintain a minimum level of debt just to maintain a base for it’s own currency. On top of that some level is required as a backing or a medium of exchange for global finance and trade (you need an asset which has such a massive base and is so liquid that even multibillion dollar transactions have little impact on price). And then you have foreign reserves of US treasuries, and the demand for the debt as safe, secure investment. Given a growing US and global economy, the minimum level of debt the US should have increases every year (that’s not to say current levels aren’t excessive).

Bringing the concept to epic levels of stupidity is the fact that a federal balanced budget requirement is virtually guaranteed to turn the next significant economic downturn into a death spiral.

The London skyscraper fire death toll is at 17, though that too is expected to rise. I see this as particularly significant:

Construction firm Rydon, which carried out the refurbishment, initially said in a statement that the work met “all fire regulations” - the wording was omitted in a later statement.

Fire risk assessment in tower blocks was “less rigorous” since responsibility for it shifted from the fire brigade to the owner, Sian Berry, housing committee chairwoman of the London Assembly, said.

That they’re backing off that initial statement suggests that they may not have done all that they should, that the materials used might not have been up to spec, or that the installation was not sufficient. In any event, I’m still wondering how and why sprinklers were not required in the building of this size.

Sprinklers would have given people time to escape and survive. A sprinkler going off in the middle of the night would have been enough to wake most people who had gone to sleep at that hour…

Now just imagine how we would go to war if a balanced budget amendment passed…

“Hey we were just attacked, we got to declare war!”

“Wait a minute, we got to pay for it. Got to raise taxes!”

“Nope, we’ll just terminate Social Security and Medicare…”

Hey, don’t you remember, we already ended Social Security and Medicare to give the top 1% another tax cut!

Nothing more pathetic than a man who was in the Federal government for four presidents trying to convince conspiracy kooks that he’s one of them. I’d love to see what Newt said when Bush appointted Mueller FB director.

But that’s the core of Orwell, isn’t it? No facts. No yesterday. No objectivity. Only tribes. My side and the enemy. Everything else, everything real, is completely malleable.

The mayor of the tiny Chesapeake Bay island community of Tangier says President Donald Trump called him after seeing a news report about the threat the Virginia village faces from sea-level rise.

[…]

Most of low-lying Tangier, with a population of about 450, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Because of the isolation, many residents have retained the linguistic traces of the island’s primarily English settlers who first arrived in the 17th century.

The island is also sinking from erosion and rising sea levels, and scientists predict that residents may have to abandon it within 25 to 50 years.

But Eskridge said Trump reassured him.

“He said not to worry about sea-level rise,” Eskridge said. “He said, ‘Your island has been there for hundreds of years, and I believe your island will be there for hundreds more.’”

About 87 percent of Tangier residents who cast ballots in November voted for Trump, and Eskridge said during the CNN interview that he loved Trump like a family member.

“He said, ‘I’ve just got to talk to that guy,’” Eskridge said.

Here’s the thing: For the better part of the past 30 years, the wingnuts have been pushing the “Civil War” BS and arguing that an armed populace is necessary to stop a “tyrannical gov’t.” Now somebody actually puts it into practice and they’re outraged because it’s their politicians who were targeted. Listening to the press conference on Otto Warmbier—the student who just returned from North Korea in a coma—on thing is clear. The Obama administration’s strategies for dealing with captured Americans have earned a lot of criticism, probably valid. I wonder what could have been done differently. Warmbier’s father is saying that things only changed once he went on Tucker Carlson’s show and Trump got involved.

Btw, It was a stupid prank, but Otto didn’t deserve what he got. I’m happy to give Trump credit if he helped end this suffering.

I completely disagree. Yes, it was a stupid prank - in a hostile foreign country. The government should not get someone out of a situation like this if it put them, our government, in a position of having to give whatever to that hostile nation.

Trump is able to work with NK because he wants to be NK.

Say Obama got this guy out, hey, no biggie! How many other stupid kids are going to be wanting to play Jackass or Punk’d in a hostile foreign country.

Make it clear you will not be rescued by the government as the government will not negotiate your release with an enemy.

That’s a really bad policy and runs counter to a few hundred years of practice among nations.

The problem with the US government attempting to negotiate the release of Americans caught is that it makes Americans abroad more likely to be targets. All of those hijackings and kidnappings in the 80s occurred because Reagan was very susceptible to the images on TV and would have the government negotiate the release. These came to a near stop when Bush Sr. declared there would no longer be any negotiations.

We humans are notoriously easy to bias in our thinking.

The key to celebrity is that familiarity strongly biases our thinking. That is why we can so easily demonize the “other”, because they are unfamiliar to us.

The invention of double-blind testing was needed because simply being aware about an item can influence how we perceive something else.

I’m not trying to be a hard ass much as realistic.

And let’s flip it. Why didn’t North Korea release him if they are “working” with us by practicing those hundred years of policies of working with other nations?

It used to be almost impossible for women to be hired at the best orchestras. Directors were certain their decisions were based entirely on merit, it wasn’t their fault so few women were any good.

Then they adopted blind auditions (musicians sit behind a screen, and are judged by people who can hear but not see them).

Among musicians who auditioned in both blind and non-blind auditions, about 28.6 percent of female musicians, and 20.2 percent of male musicians, advanced from the preliminary to the final round in blind auditions. When preliminary auditions were not blind, only 19.3 percent of the women advanced, along with 22.5 percent of the men.

I don’t think this will be a successful strategy. Oh, it will work with his base for sure. But this is out of his base’s hands now.

And from what I understand, it will be extremely difficult to make Mueller look bad to the people in DC where Mueller is seen as a rock solid good guy American.

This is where a non-establishment politician is going to run head-on into a well established person with well established supporters from both political parties.

But Trump will try it and he will use political gadabouts like Newt and Rudi to do it. Maybe he has no feel for the fact that both are not all that well loved in DC. I think many Republicans would like both to go away.

From The Guardian on that fire:

What about the new gas pipes in the central stairwell? Did they exacerbate the blaze?

A local councillor, Judith Blakeman, who sits on the tenant management organisation, raised concerns in March about the National Grid installation of gas risers or pipes in the main stairwell as part of the refurbishment. She was reassured by the landlord that they would be boxed in with “fire-rated” protection, but this does not appear to have been done. The London fire brigade said on Thursday morning they had not been able to put out the flames until they had isolated a ruptured gas main in the block.

How did the alarm system operate?

Several residents said they did not hear a building-wide alarm. One man said the first thing he heard was the sirens of emergency vehicles. How was the building’s alarm system set up?

More than one resident has claimed there was no central fire alarm system for the tower block - or that it had failed - and only smoke alarms in individual flats were working. Were they battery operated or hard-wired into the system? Board minutes suggest installing hard-wired fire alarms had been planned.

And manslaughter charges?

Rachel Adamson, head of regulatory law at the law firm Stephensons, said corporate manslaughter charges were difficult to prove as they related to “the controlling mind of the business”. If an individual was considered to have been negligent, this may lead to a charge of manslaughter by gross negligence. A range of lesser potential charges include breach of fire regulations or health and safety regulations. Investigators will examine recent refurbishment work, whether building regulations have been complied with and what fire safety precautions were in place.

Seriously, read the North Korea page.

This system imposes unduly harsh sentences for actions that would not be considered crimes in the United States and threatens U.S. citizen detainees with being treated in accordance with “wartime law of the DPRK.” Since the United States does not maintain diplomatic or consular relations with North Korea, the U.S. government has no means to provide normal consular services to U.S. citizens in North Korea.

North Korean authorities have detained those who traveled independently and those who were part of organized tours. Being a member of a group tour or using a tour guide will not prevent North Korean authorities from detaining or arresting you.

Numerous foreigners have been held in North Korea for extended periods of time without being formally charged with any crimes. Detained foreigners have been questioned daily for several weeks without the presence of counsel and have been compelled to make public statements and take part in public trials.

And the comments are insane as you would expect, multiple examples:

North VA ought to be a separate state, the tail is wagging f the dog here much like other states with a population imbalance wherein the dense part of the population drives the rest of the state, sad!

[…]

We need to put in place an electoral college type of system to counter the libtards and illegals voting in NOVA! They do not represent the rest of the state.

[…]

I have heard that all that housing approved and built in NoVa was done with the idea of turning Va “big-government” blue years ago. Could have happened in Md but they didn’t need it politically cause they’re already blue. See? So this was a Trojan horse that polluted and ruined our state!

There should be, and I’m sure there are, some general political sciency websites out there that would have this but I can’t think of any names off the top of my head.

Oh, fuck me.

I joked yesterday that Bryce Reeves, the insane GOP candidate for Lieutenant Governor who lost his primary race, would claim that he really won because he won most of the counties in Virginia. He had actually posted this picture prior to my comment:

And the comments are insane as you would expect, multiple examples:

But those divisive Democrats y’all.

I’m sure Stewart is thinking the same thing even though he’s from NOVA. Hey though, my grandma told me that Corey hadn’t backed Eddie yet. Hope that’s true.

No, I need maps with numbers. I need to show that while Trump won the EC, he lost the popular vote. I’m presenting four electoral maps to show the evolution. One from 1789, one from 1824, one from 1912, and the latest one.

I’m trying to show the absurdity how Trump could win despite losing the popular vote that was the margin of over the population of quite few states.

Do a print screen which copies the window to the copy board, then open up paint and create a new file which should open as the aspect ratio of your monitor. Hit ‘paste” and the screen captured should paste in. Then save it as a jpeg or gif.

Hope that helps.

Edit: I see Tim suggested it already…

Yeah I didn’t like CNN’s dot-map thing, but at least it has the state outline compared with the national popular vote, the latter of which Hillary Clinton won by the way, despite what agent orange man says.

I think we’re going to finish him off here. I just don’t think he’ll be able to compete with Northam. He’s got the money but you saw that Stewart nearly beat him. He’s not going to win too many popularity contests with the GOP base.

345
HappyWarrior  Jun 15, 2017 • 10:37:13am

It’s all going on a word file. It’ll probably be too big to page in the end. But anyhow, basically the idea that the Founders didn’t trust the common people hence why the EC was created is sort of incorrect, tehy were more afraid of people resorting to choosing favorites based off region and all that and that was their fear. However, I think that’s a bit unfounded with we have more access to information than we did in the past and as we saw Trump’s homestate and home city overwhelmingly rejected him.

Ah, yeah, I’m usually at work and Paint is all I have since I can’t install anything (although I have used GIMP from a flash drive before for work stuff).

I think Paint’s supported PNGs since Windows 7.

Here’s a write-up about her from a GOP moderate on a conservative blog. The author, Brian Schoeneman, talks about how she previously had a pretty moderate record but went hard right for the primary. She got the endorsement of E.W. Jackson and sent out a transphobic mailer.

Wow. Never thought I’d see that. He’s right though.

In a candid and lengthy interview with Politico Magazine, Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) said that Donald Trump has “fanned the flames of intolerance,”

washingtonpost.com
And that was back in February.

Sanford has no fucks to give when it comes to Trump. He’s also come out strong against his old buddy Mulvaney and his budget:

“This budget presumes a Goldilocks economy,” Sanford said. “It assumes that the stars perfectly align with regard to economic drivers. Can you guess the last time we had an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent, growth of 3 percent and inflation held at 2 percent?” Sanford informed Mulvaney that it had never happened. He said of 3 percent growth: “It’s frankly not only a myth. It’s a lie.”

Maybe Trump threatening to primary Sanford wasn’t such a great idea…
