Apparently Giphy has now disabled their “Play On Hover” option which I was using, because they want to inflict animations on people whether they like it or not. I don’t see a way to stop the animations in their API with a quick check, but I’ll look into it in more depth tomorrow.

Given what happened to Kurt Eichenwald, that should be illegal. I’m dead serious (though of course the chance of such a law ever passing in GOPertrump’s America is less than zero). Autoplay video of any kind makes me want to smash things. It ranges from horribly annoying data-plan drain to literally life-threatening for people with seizure disorders.

Perhaps a stopgap measure (especially if Giphy is determined to be douchey) is to offer some kind of reverse “Click to reveal” function - a button we can click to hide embedded content in a post, regardless of whether it was put in hide tags in the first place.

Try clicking the “refresh” icon (the arrow on the far right in the upper right corner of the comment box). That usually brings the box back to its “original” configuration.

Plus analysis of House version calls it a GOP attack on blue states. Those that took full advantage of ACA and expanded Medicaid will hurt the most. The red states will hurt the least initially. It may just be me (though I hope not): but from what I’ve seen/heard/read* re Karen Handel’s latest campaign ads, they are starting to smell of desperation: basically reverting to plain old appeals to prejudice, rather than even a pretext of debating issues.
I’d like to think that that would be indicative of bad news for her campaign: but this is the Trump Era: WTH knows?

Nothing on Donald Trump’s official White House page, either on the proclamations nor the statements and releases page about the USS Fitzgerald or her crew.

There is a self-serving notification about the great staff he continues to hire, and a notice about the “intransigence” of Cuba’s government. (I’m betting he has no idea what intransigence even means.)

But don’t they have the easiest machines to hack? Plus they do not back the votes with paper ballots, so like in the election when something went wrong they couldn’t say if Ossoff really got 50% or the final numbers they had. Unless they are backing everything up with paper ballots, she might win and no one could say the election was hacked.

I look at Wingnut Welfare from a positive direction: For every one of these grifters taking money from the credulous, that’s less money that can go to a political candidate.

The folks who lost their homes and families in the fire. Carried over from the last thread:

re: #198 Stanley Sea

You post twitter all the time while portraying yourself as a non-twitter renegade.

It’s hypocritical; I’ve called you on it like 5 times now.

Don’t bitch about what you use. It’s quite simple.

As I noted up that thread, that assessment is correct, and I would no longer post tweets. I also noted I only look at Twitter when I am at Little Green Footballs, so excising that bit of hypocrisy should be no problem.

I can’t avoid seeing tweets others post here though, unless I stop coming here.

Question: Is it hypocritical for me to tweets here posted by others? (Serious question.)

I enjoy your presence here. It matters not to me whether you tweet or not. I don’t, for various reasons, and I may in the future, but I enjoy the tweets and tweet threads that are posted here. IMO you are making a straw man argument about not tweeting, and then posting tweets. But I don’t really care. It’s a long way from my heart. But it does make you sound “self-righteous”. Whatever floats your boat, but don’t complain if you get called on it.

The BBC is reporting that the MV ACX Crystal (the ship that t-boned the USS Fitzgerald) made an unexplained U-turn twenty-five minutes before the collision, according to maritime reporting sites.

That means the BBC doesn’t have direct knowledge, but would be a wrinkle in the investigation if true.

We have our town party next week.

For a brief time the town’s population will quadruple or quintuple.

We get all sorts of good stuff: Tractor pulls, lawn mower pulls (my side street will be blocked for those), a parade (my main street will be blocked for that, so I have to move my car elsewhere), shotgun competition, party at the community centre, poker competition (they won’t let me play), bluegrass music and art show in the village park, &c.

I think I caught one of those right after Mr. Johnson’s post on leaving the right was re-posted to Huffington Post. Before I read that at HuffPo, I’d never heard of this site (hence my relatively new account date).

There’s a couple of ways. You can insert a GIF file that you have yourself (must be 500K or less) just click on Upload Image in the lower left. Or you can insert giphy.com GIFs. To do that find the GIF you want and click on ‘Embed.’ CopyPasta that embed code, plug it right into the LGF comment. Done and done.
