WATCH LIVE: Sean Spicer and Rick Perry Announce Something Horrible

The Trump gang is hauling out Secretary of Energy Rick Perry (five words that give me nightmares) for this press conference, which almost certainly means there will be some kind of horrifically awful new announcement about a right wing policy that will further destroy America’s standing in the world.

Let me guess. Big new subsidies for oil, coal, natural gas and maybe uranium. Renewables to be taxed to pay for them.

I had my money on “we’re closing the storage facility at Yucca Mountain in Nevada; from now on, nuclear waste will be stored beneath Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, and New York City.”

It was a long shot bet, but betting on worst case scenarios with these guys seems about right.

…and to give even more context to Lexington:

Jim Gray defeated his opponent in 2015 to win re-election as Mayor.
His opponent was former Chief of Lexington Police Anthany Beatty. A black man who had shown support for “die- in” protests related to Black Lives Matter. Two candidates who could both by their backgrounds, represent a progressive city. There was no wrong choice.

Weaselone  Jun 27, 2017 • 12:01:20pm

Why? Seriously, why nuclear? Why now? Directly after the fall of the Soviet Union and following the disarmament agreements the price of the fuel for reactors fell off a cliff. That’s no longer the case. It’s simply not a good fuel source for general electric generation. The US has sucked at creating standardized plant designs, so the cost of new power plants is always huge and that’s before the massive cost overruns. We don’t have a satisfactory way to deal with the waste and that waste, along with the fuel being moved across the country and the plants themselves represents a target for terrorism.

We need to invest more money in 1. Efficiency 2. An updated grid to optimize decentralized production and long distance distribution, 3. Solar, 4. Wind and 5. Sustainable production of biofuels to plug any gaps. We can use existing plants and natural gas as a bridge.

Yet in Trump-land, both coal and nuclear are seen as parallel paths.

@JetsFan1966 No, Obama talked about RESEARCH into making coal clean. These people are talking about it as if it actually exists now. It doesn’t.
3:04 PM - 27 Jun 2017

There is no doubt there is plenty “energy” in coal. But burning it is not the way.

I have seen researchers trying to figure a way to extract the hydrogen and even the nitrogen from it and leave the nasty stuff behind. But even that is problematic as you need to do something with the carbon and sulfur left over.

I don’t think anyone has a problem with research as you never know what science can do until it is tried.

In other news…Car bomb kills senior Ukrainian intelligence officer in Kiev

Authorities say a bomb planted under or inside a car has killed a senior Ukrainian military intelligence officer in the country’s capital.

Photos from the scene showed the mangled vehicle in the middle of a Kiev intersection. Police say the car’s driver was killed immediately and two passers-by were slightly injured in the Tuesday morning blast.

The Defense Ministry identified the victim as Col. Maxim Shapoval of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence. Ukrainian media reported that Shapoval was chief of military intelligence’s special forces.

Kiev regional police chief Andriy Kryshchenko tells 112 television channel the unidentified explosive device was either attached to the bottom of the car or planted inside,.

Investigators are treating the explosion as a terror attack but did not immediately say who was to blame.

I’m sure Obama or Hillary are to blame somehow.

Rick Perry. What can you say?
Just in the state of Pennsylvania. Nuclear? Uh oh….

Coal? Right across the river from The Coal Region.
If you look at that picture carefully, you will see the older (1950’s) coal fired plant in the back. The natural gas is in the foreground. It’s freaking huge.
The plant before the new construction. Guess how many acres?

And if you do even a shallow search, you will see coal generating plants shuttering in NG areas.

Clean coal? You never lived in a valley with a big time coal fired power house. And the truck and rail delivery system.
Oh, and coal fired plants need Fly ash ponds.

UPDATE: GOP senators Capito and Portman will not support health care legislation

Capito, a West Virginia Republican, and Portman, an Ohio Republican, both issued statements Tuesday after the Senate delayed its vote on the Senate health care discussion draft.

“I came to Washington to make the lives of West Virginians better,” Capito said in the release. “Throughout this debate, I have said that I will only support a bill that provides access to affordable health care coverage for West Virginians, including those on Medicaid and those struggling with drug addiction. In West Virginia, Obamacare has led to skyrocketing premiums, co-pays, and deductibles for families and small businesses. Patients have fewer choices in doctors and hospitals as networks shrink and plans become more restrictive.”

Portman released the following statement in a release:

“As I’ve said many times, the Affordable Care Act is not working for many Ohio families and small businesses. I am committed to creating a better health care system that lowers the cost of coverage, provides access to quality care, and protects the most vulnerable in our society. The Senate draft before us includes some promising changes to reduce premiums in the individual insurance market, but I continue to have real concerns about the Medicaid policies in this bill, especially those that impact drug treatment at a time when Ohio is facing an opioid epidemic.”

I wonder what the change in health insurance coverage for WV was for pre-ACA to post-ACA? I’d guess pretty significant. But Capito can’t bother to credit the ACA with that.

Problem is (and I don’t think GGT feels that way) a lot of people think Moore is a whacko too. I think it best to keep them separate as I don’t think there is any comparison. Just my opinion. I don’t think there is any good, even if “whacky”, in O’Keefe.

What nobody ever mentions in sequestration plans is what happens if the buried CO2 actually does leak. It might well do more than just add back into global warming equations, CO2 is (slightly) heavier than air, the difference is so small that normally it mixes with the entire atmosphere but a huge volume of it released at once will roll down the landscape and asphyxiate anything in its path. So if a fissure grows large enough the suddenly released large reservoir of gas could smother and kill whole towns. It happened before at Lake Nyos when something (we don’t know exactly what) kicked a huge volume of supersaturated CO2 out of the water, killing an entire village.

I’ve had this admittedly cruel mindset for a couple of years now. We have an entire large bloc of older white voters that have latched onto Reagan BS historical revisionism and overall bullshit 40 years ago, and they will die this way. This particular style of bullshit makes than happy and feel good about themselves by largely denigrating everyone and everything not associated closely with their small-minded reality. It’s going to be a very sucky 20 years or so until most of them are dead from old age. In the meantime, let them suffer from their own voting behavior. They want Republicans. They want this. I’ve had that issue too as a single guy. I know I am not a pedophile or gay, the two auto-assumptions that always come up. I just made a choice for my own reasons.

So, I’ve learned not to care what they think…they have the issues. I have hurt no one, even emotionally. That was part of my reasoning based on earlier experiences.

It’s sad people have to make up their own ideas about what you are instead of either not caring about it or at least asking why you are single.

I would absolutely help a child in clear distress. I would not however pick up a strange child against their will under any circumstances.

According to police the young girl tried to pull away but the man was concerned for her safety and picked her up and continued walking toward the playground, “hoping that he would be able to locate the child’s father.”

EDIT: on further review if they were wandering in traffic or something I may pick them up against their will, but barring immediate physical danger, nope.

Wow!!!

I may have told this one before. When I was in college, my mode of transport was a Puch moped.

It was stolen off my front porch. I was devastated & fucked.

One day a year & a half later I was between classes & reading the student newspaper. In the classified’s was a sheriff’s auction & it looked like my moped was there included. (It was an unusually nice one & different than the std mopeds of the day)

I went to the sheriff’s junkyard & it was MINE. They had found it 3 days after it was stolen. The police wrote down a 5 instead of an S for the VIN & they didn’t match it to my report.

THEN they wanted 250 or so for the storage. I got a student aid law student who argued it down to 50.00.

I still feel the GAH.

I got it back & rode it for another year & 1/2 - actually took it back home after graduation & tooled around the beach.

Found it!

I miss that thing. So much fun.

I’ve seen the police department turn over stolen/recovered bikes to the local non-profit bike shop, including ones that were reported stolen and were still being looked for by the owners. Too much trouble to take care of bikes (and mopeds) the right way.

re: #181 Stanley Sea

On May 1, 1975, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette was stolen from William T. Revis of Indianapolis, Indiana. Subsequently, it was stripped and the stripped-down hull was bought by James Billy Pack from Howard’s Used Cars. Pack then sold the stripped-down hull to Doug Horn, who sold it to W.A. Sartin on August 23, 1976, for the sum of $200.

Sartin used the stripped-down hull to build a functioning Corvette automobile with his own labor and materials and sold it to Randy Bennett for $4,750. Bennett then sold it to Robert Earheart for $4,775. Earheart then traded the car to Capital Chevrolet on May 7, 1979, for a 1979 Corvette. Capitol allowed $6,052 on the trade-in and Earheart paid the balance by check.

On May 9, 1979, Capitol Chevrolet sold the rebuilt 1965 Corvette to Dave Crass. It was stolen from Crass in Atlanta on June 12, 1979, and was recovered by the Atlanta police, who returned it to the original owner Revis on July 4, 1979. Revis had identified the car by the serial number remaining on the original hull of the car that had been stolen from him in 1975.

Crass has never paid anything to Capitol Chevrolet on the car, alleging he owed nothing because the car was stolen merchandise when sold to him. Capitol sued both Crass, its vendee, and Earheart, its vendor. Third-party suits have been entered back up the chain of title as far as Pack. Crass filed a counter-complaint against Capitol for selling him a stolen car.

I read this case in law school. What should be the result? To find what the court did click here.

Yeah, no comparison. Just yesterday somebody tried to compare Palmer Report with Breitbart. I politely called them on that and they backed off. Palmer Report has some issues but is nothing close to the cesspool that is Breitbart.

Welp, I have to say I’m definitely not a fan of Palmer Report. Is it as bad as Breitbart? Well, no, but that’s about the lowest bar in existence.

I’ve seen Palmer Report post stuff that’s just as fake and distorted as anything at Gateway Pundit, but from a leftist perspective. They frequently post articles that make outrageous claims with absolutely no sourcing, or if they do list a source it turns out to be some random tweet from a guy you’ve never heard of — or from themselves.

I don’t trust Palmer Report at all. I think they’re scamming liberals just like Jim Hoft scams conservatives.

Dude’s a pure Trumper, I can tell from here.

The funny thing is—Obama, in an off-hand kind of way—made the caveat that people should only be concerned if some totally anomalous outcome were to occur. IOW, if Trum p wins, it’s rigged.

I think it was a fair ruling

Our review of this record sustains the Chancellor’s finding that Sartin acquired title to the car by accession and that all defendants herein acted in good faith. Earheart conveyed good title to Capitol Chevrolet, which conveyed the same to Crass. Crass is the owner of the car less any claim held by the original owner Revis to an amount corresponding to the value of the unimproved stripped-down hull purchased by Sartin.

i.e. Crass owes Revis $200 for the value of the frame.

DAMN YOU….

I’m not in Colorado, but I am in NY, where they don’t make that big of a deal about it any more.

A couple of years ago, I played a gig on the Lower East Side, and after the show I went outside and a friend had a bowl lit and offered me a hit. I raised the bowl to my lips and took a pull, and raised my head in time to see an NYPD cruiser with the cop riding shotgun looking right at me. I mean direct eye contact.

They pulled over, made me empty my pockets, checked my ID, asked me if I had any weapons (I had to be a wiseass and say ‘Dude, I’m a guitar player!’, which got a laugh). They told me not to smoke weed on the sidewalk and wished me a good night. Even gave me the bowl and lighter back.

I used to go there because celeb gossip was an enjoyable read as I ate lunch in grad school but I’ve sworn them off since the election precisely because of the extremely pro-Trump slant.

Wingnut logic:

Benghazi: Eight Republican lead Congressional investigations, 800 pages and 11 hours of live testimony does not show any fault with Clinton, means Clinton must still be guilty.

Russia: One whiney CNN staffer bitching about his job, makes an unsubstantiated claim, and this therefore proves everything about Russia is false.

I wouldn’t doubt if the NYT article in question merely mentioned that some people said that her targets were in poor form and she’s dumb enough to think that’s libeling her.
