A video of what unregulated automobiles looked like while auto clubs were fighting laws like the NRA does now.

In 1906 a cameraman mounted a movie camera on the front of a San Francisco streetcar going up Market Street. At the time, there were no laws regulating automobiles, velocipedes, or bicycles.

A Trip Down Market Street, 1906: W/ NEW FOOTAGE!!!

Neat track. Makes me wish I could record better myself - not quite in that league yet but it’d work to keep me practicing to be able to play for others.

$60.00 Recording Software for the individual/amateur. Pretty complete for the price.

I’m starting to mess with this myself. It had drivers to handle our 8 input sound card too.

If you get some kind of analog to USB input, chances are they have the drivers for it.

wonkette.com

After The Guardian’s reporting on Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow allegedly using his non-profit Christian legal defence organisation to enrich himself, the states of New York and New Jersey have opened criminal investigations into him.

More at Wonkette:

Sekulow runs a couple of nonprofits, the American Center for Law and Justice, which positions itself as a sort of anti-ACLU, defending the rights of oppressed Christians in America (which is all of them) against the nasty forces of secularism, and “Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism” (CASE) which also raises money to protect Christians from sharia law and Barack Obama taking their guns and also from Barack Obama instituting sharia law. The whole arrangement looks sketchy as anything, and the details are loads of fun, like how Sekulow, his wife, his brother, and his kids all get paid millions of dollars for the important work they do for CASE and the ACLJ. And just like Donald Trump, Sekulow is an expert at keeping money in the family business — money from the charities is used to buy services from Sekulow’s law firm, from the production company that puts his radio show together, and so on. And the great thing, says Sekulow in his pitches, is that he provides all that free legal service to good Christians being oppressed:

No. I’m not a fan actually. All the wonderful videos Charles posts usually have the rig rundown in the bio. It’s a modeling amp. It can be anything. I just thought I would show you what they meant by ” Kemper amp profile of an old Fender Bassman. BASS.” The Fender Bassman was originally marketed as a bass amp, but the easy breakup made it popular with guitar players.
I’m lucky enough to be able to blast in my home, as long as it’s not late. I can tune in new gear at stage volume. I have a looper/splitter and three amps so I can layer. Mostly I just play along with youtube.

I’m not really into that aspect of playing. I have my pedals and I have my amps.
I was always disappointed with solid state and modeling.

I think the problem is that Sen. McConnell does know what “bipartisan” means: it’s just that his definition is the the standard contemporary Republican interpretation of the term: I.e.”Republicans propose, Democrats acquiese - bipartisanship!! “

Cardinal George Pell of Australia, currently one of the top men at the Vatican, has been charged with multiple “historical sexual assault offences.”

In the Vatican, Pell’s job as secretariat of the economy is so crucial that it has been described as the second-most-powerful role in Rome, after only the pope. But for years, he has faced accusations of improper behavior connected with clergy sexual abuse in Australia.

In Ballarat, Pell’s hometown, dozens of children were abused by priests. After the abuse came to light, priests testified under oath that Pell knew about the abuse while it was occurring.

The scale of the abuse in Ballarat was staggering: In one fourth-grade class of 33 boys, 12 committed suicide, the Post reported in 2015. Five priests who worked in the parish were convicted of crimes, including one who was found guilty of abusing more than 50 children.

My parents are very right wing conservative evangelical Christians. They do not approve of me, since I am a transgender woman.

I was always the ‘failed’ eldest child..the one who let them down, the one who graduated from college late instead of at 21. I accepted it. However, their resentment towards me spilled over onto my spouse and my son. Over they years, we noticed the lack of phone calls or gifts for their grandson…our son James…and the rare phone calls or visits while they would spend weeks with my far religious right wing sister and her family in Florida.

They refuse to talk to my spouse at all, generally.

They would deny in a heartbeat anything was wrong, of course. Well, I’m a problem for my un-Godly lifestyle (whatever the hell that means) but of course they don’t have a problem with my family. They’re just busy and besides, I’m being over sensitive, right?

My sons 17th birthday was 5 days ago. No call, no card. They spent two weeks with my sister and her family to see their eldest granddaughter graduate from high school last month. By our count over the years, they spend 7 days with my sister for every one day they spend with us.

Today, my brother told me my sister is now executor of their will and I have been disinherited. My family and I have been stipulated to receive nothing when they pass.

They don’t have the fucking guts to tell me to my face. Not even a phone call. This happened a couple of years ago, from what I can gather. I just found out today. My ‘Christian’ parents can fucking ignore their own grandson, ignore and denigrate my spouse and then call me on the phone once every three months to exchange banal pleasantries and they cannot fucking admit they hate my guts and want nothing to do with me and my family

The last time I talked to my dad, he mentioned they had Fox News on. They have just bought a house in Texas because they were tired of liberal California and too many Mexicans..or something to that effect. They want their crazy straight from the tap.

This happened today, and I’m not in the best of moods tonight, lizards. Sorry, but I needed to get this off of me right now.

No, it does not “speak loudly to how scared people are.” It’s violent crime for its own sake, and probably gifted the Republicans a Congressman in Georgia 6th. It’s time and long past time for Democrats to expel Sanders and to inform the Bros that their support is unwelcome.

(CNN) The man accused of ramming a car into the newly erected Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the Arkansas state Capitol Wednesday posted a video to Facebook shortly before the incident, saying he was doing it because it was a violation of the separation of church and state.

Michael Tate Reed, 32, then streamed to Facebook Live the moment he drove his 2016 Dodge Dart over the statehouse lawn and crashed into the monument. The Arkansas secretary of state’s office confirmed to CNN the video shows Reed driving into the monument.

Look if any state could possibly pull off single payer, well the strongest economy in the country is it. But here is the rub. We just got a massive tax increase (a highly regressive one at the gas pump) that kicks in soon. For our roads and infrastructure they said. Well, I call BS. Our pension crisis is draining government coffers. We already had gasoline taxes and arguably the highest income tax in the country already. A strict regulatory culture from our very own extra powerful environmental and labor enforcement agencies.

Where do so many more billions come from? “Funding mechanism” is a euphemism for no further revenue in sight. Sorry, really hate to point this out.

Mother Jones put it like this-

History. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that SB562 was some brand new, Bernie-esque health care reform. California Democrats have been introducing universal health care bills of one sort or another for decades. This is California’s seventh attempt, following the introduction of single-payer bills and ballot initiatives in 1992, 1994, 1998, 2003, 2005, and 2009.

Funding. Single-payer would cost something like $200 billion, give or take a few billions. This is nearly double the entire state budget, but SB562 blithely ignored it. It included no funding mechanism at all, and simply passed that reponsibility to the state Assembly. It’s not surprising that Rendon was reluctant to shoulder this on his own over the course of the next few months.

Prop 98. Like it or not, California has a school funding law put in place years ago by Proposition 98. It’s insanely complicated, but basically requires that 40 percent of the state budget go to K-12 schools. Using round numbers, if the state budget is $100 billion, school spending has to be at least $40 billion. If state spending goes up to $300 billion, school spending has to be at least $120 billion. Aside from being ridiculous, it also leaves only $120 billion for the health care bill. Oops.

One more thing on California Single Payer

Waivers. This is the issue nobody pays attention to, but is probably the most important of all. To implement single-payer, California would need $200 billion in new funding plus $200 billion in federal money that currently goes to Medicare, Medicaid, veterans health care, and so forth. Without federal waivers to give California access to that money, the plan can’t go anywhere. As Duke University researcher David Anderson puts it, “If there aren’t waivers, this plan is vaporware.” What do you think are the odds that the Trump administration will grant all those waivers? Zero is a pretty good guess.

I’m a pragmatic socialist. I think a proper source of funding is important for any government programme. “You get what you pay for” applies to single-payer medicine as much as it does anything else.

Hence, we have subsidised water, sewer, trash, and yard waste pickup in my town, because we have a funding mechanism for those things. We don’t have subsidised electricity or Internet, because we don’t have funding mechanisms for those.

They have each other to help with warmth and I have their little carrier with a fuzzy blankie in the bathroom. With the door closed it stays very warm (no AC in there). I’ll be up to feed them every 2 hours (not a biggie since I suck at sleeping anyway). They both take the bottle quite well with minimal coaxing. :)

I tried earlier with pathetic results. Not enough light, just my phone (with kinda sucky camera) and the little guys would not pose for me. At all. They were just a blur. LOL The fact that one is solid black doesn’t help. I’ll take them outside tomorrow and try again.

You probably don’t have to feed every 2 hours…more like every 4 or so.

WASHINGTON, DC - The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum condemns any attempt to rehabilitate the reputation of Hungary’s wartime leader, Miklos Horthy, who was a vocal antisemite and complicit in the murder of the country’s Jewish population during the Holocaust. On June 21, 2017, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban asserted at a public ceremony that the Hungarian nation was able to survive in the 1920s and 1930s due to “some exceptional statesmen like Regent Miklos Horthy….”

Thanks! I’ve also played it with my Boss DS1 distortion pedal cranked like Kurt Cobain used to use one. It’s interesting in its way but I like the fuzz with a hint of surf better.

What do you expect when a CEO is in charge of the government? Private companies are dictatorships where the value of a person is measured by their income and information is strictly limited on a need-to-know basis. There is no reason for the unwashed masses to know the initiatives the company is planning; companies are free to seek alliances with whomever they want and will sell out to the enemy for a sufficient price.

re: #130 allegro

Ah, the memories of rubbing a tiny belly with a warm, damp washrag to get the kitten to poop… When I was in high school my big sister had friends who moved into a new house and found four kittens with their eyes barely open; gave them cat food and water and wondered why three starved to death. She brought the fourth one home. The vet looked at that pitiful scrap of felinity scrabbling on the exam table like a dying cockroach and told my mom, “You’ll never raise him.” My soft-hearted little sister wailed, “We hafta try, Mom! I’ll feed him every hour, and use my allowance for the bottle…”

Five kids, one kitten who had somebody holding him for the first 36 hours we had him. Named him Mononucleosis because he was the sole survivor, and he sure looked like he had the disease. His favorite sleeping spot was snuggled up on somebody’s neck, preferably with his nose buried in their hair. Purr like a buzz saw.

That little stinker was three months short of his 20th birthday when my little sister finally lost him: opinionated and crotchety by then, with the firm belief that he should still be an outdoor cat, and a bad habit of shredding her papers if she didn’t leap to his bidding. Still purring.

Fair warning! You knew this job was dangerous when you took it, and took them…
(I’m with the rest of the crowd, waiting for the pics)
