Sir John Barron  Jul 6, 2017 • 12:58:15pm

Gotta repeat this every few weeks or so:

It is urgent for Americans to think and speak clearly about President Trump’s inability to do either. This seems to be not a mere disinclination but a disability. It is not merely the result of intellectual sloth but of an untrained mind bereft of information and married to stratospheric self-confidence.

(snip)

What is most alarming (and mortifying to the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated) is not that Trump has entered his eighth decade unscathed by even elementary knowledge about the nation’s history. As this column has said before, the problem isn’t that he does not know this or that, or that he does not know that he does not know this or that. Rather, the dangerous thing is that he does not know what it is to know something.

A better argument for supply side theory is that if enough businesses make stuff, then consumers will have more money with which to buy things. But that supposes the employer/manufacturer pays its employees (who are also consumers) a reasonable wage (which is something that the modern MBA culture finds apostate).

Perry and Trump and whoever else on his team are measuring things in terms of cost only: Pile up enough coal and people will want it over solar because it’ll be cheaper. They’re only thinking in terms of immediate monetary cost.

Not only does this fail to take into account the non-monetary reasons people choose things, but it also misses that a lot of places have converted to things other than coal. They’d have to build a coal plant to use the coal.

No, they were not involved in the rape in any way. They were part of a group that committed some smaller crimes (though, they all claim no direct participation), so the police had a legitimate reason to question them. It was soon apparent they were the wrong guys. However, due to the pressure to close the case, and the fact that there were no other suspects, police and prosecutors went ahead with the trial anyway.

JUST IN: @NBCNews confirms likely only 6 people in room for Friday’s Trump-Putin meeting: Tillerson, Lavrov & translators, per official.

So no one who actually knows anything about Russia; Tillerson’s knowledge is limited to their oil reserves. I’m sure this will go swimmingly for the United States, though Exxon will probably profit. No one who actually has the interests of our nation will be present, except, possibly, the translator, but I wouldn’t bet on that.

Shouldn’t surprise us that an ancient guy like Soros is such a bogeyman to the right. They attribute the same status to Saul Alinsky, who has been dead for 45 years.
Incidentally, freepers who comment on Alinsky very frequently seem to assume that he is alive and active. I’ve also seen a few attacks on “Solinsky” there, which initially led me to ask “who the hell is Solinsky?” before I realized that this is a common rendering of “Saul Alinsky.”
While we are on the subject of misconceptions, a friend of mine who headed the local ACLU said he frequently heard from RWNJs who assumed that the ACLU is a government agency and that he was collecting a government salary.
