From the G20 Meeting, Trump Posts Bizarre Tweet About John Podesta

A window into a disturbed mind
Politics • Views: 32,450

Some people say we should just ignore Trump’s tweets, but I think that’s a mistake. These short messages he posts on Twitter are a window into how his mind works — or in many cases, fails to work, or misfires. Arguably, Trump’s tweets are a far more accurate picture of his mental state than any official statement that’s been edited and rewritten by aides and PR people.

And the tweet he posted this morning shows a mind in complete disarray, overbearingly narcissistic but unable to keep facts straight, even about his main obsessions. Here’s the latest bizarre message from Trump’s id:

First, the idea that “everyone” at the G20 meeting is talking about John Podesta is… well, it’s disturbingly absurd. I suspect they have a few more important things to discuss. But even more absurd is how disconnected from reality this tweet is, because Podesta did not work for the DNC and had nothing to do with decisions about their email server.

In short, Trump is lumping several right wing conspiracy theories together in a confused mish-mash of nonsense, seasoned with his trademark egomaniacal boasting. And the Daily Beast reports that even Trump’s aides have no idea what he was talking about.

The tweet baffled White House aides on the trip. “I have no idea what he’s talking about,” one messaged The Daily Beast. Officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not cleared to discuss the bizarre tweet.

According to those present, the only world leader at the summit who was actively bringing up Podesta and “the DNC server” was the U.S. president.

“Trump himself brought it up” randomly in person while talking to staff, a senior official on the trip told The Daily Beast. Puzzled advisers nodded politely or ignored him as the president went down the rabbit hole…

This man is not well.

And the GOP will jump right on this and support Mr. Trump, though Sens. McCain and Graham might be “very concerned.”

Good thing we didn’t have any press in that meeting to verify what they were talking about.

Gov. Paul LePage (R-ME) goes on the radio to complain about the “fake media” making up a “fake story” about him planning to go on vacation after the government shutdown there over the state’s budget impasse.

wonkette.com

Thing is, the story is not unsourced: There are two state legislators who went on record, and a newspaper under a public records request got a recording of him saying exactly that.

So the press is lying, by quoting him. (He also said he likes to spend his time in the governor’s office making up stories to see if the press will run them, because that’s what Maine taxpayers pay him for apparently.)

Oh, man. This thread…

Again, not to beat a dead horse, but try to imagine scenario where RNC emails were leaked during an election, the Democratic candidate for POTUS repeatedly touted those emails as proof of some insidious and nefarious activity on the part of the GOP, then it was later discovered that the RNC emails resulted from another country’s hacking, and that the Democratic candidate refused to condemn that hacking, in fact said he/she didn’t believe US IC in linking the hacks to the other country and also that the Dem candidate and party had multiple associations and links with the other country and also…

Imagine the hell that Rushbo-Faux News would be unleashing, would have been unleashing for the past eight months.

Timothy Watson  Jul 7, 2017 • 11:21:22am

I get a kick out of Trump saying that the DNC should have turned over their server to the FBI/CIA (CIA doesn’t have domestic (counter)intelligence authority anyway). Trump has repeatedly stated he doesn’t believe the FBI or the CIA, so what difference would it have made?

That goes back to my statement above that conservatism is about nothing but gaining and keeping power.

If the Democrats did that, the GOP would be doing everything in their power to punish the party (and rightly so).

Yes, he is.

That said, the reason he got reëlected is because of Maine’s gubernatorial electoral system: It awards the governorship to the person who takes the largest percentage of the vote, not an absolute majority.

In the case of their last election, the Democratic candidate Michael Michaud wound up with an independent challenger, who sucked off a significant fraction of the Democratic vote (not a Sanders-type, simply a person railing about two-party politics). Thus, LePage slipped in with a plurality, but not a majority.

Republicans had a plan. They were going to spend four years investigating Hillary Clinton, bitching about Obamacare, and going on Fox News to complain about Messican ISIS Abortionplexes. It was gonna be sweet! But then That Lunatic up and won the election! Whaaaaaa?

Republicans suddenly found themselves holding all three branches of government, at which point they needed a new plan. And they’d promised a lot when they thought they’d never be in a position to deliver, so their plan needed to be awesome.

Spoiler Alert: It was not awesome.

He lied about Canada’s rate as well (in the opposite direction):

Corporation tax rates
Federal rates

The basic rate of Part I tax is 38% of your taxable income, 28% after federal tax abatement.

After the general tax reduction, the net tax rate is 15%.

For Canadian-controlled private corporations claiming the small business deduction, the net tax rate is 10.5%.

Provincial or territorial rates

Generally, provinces and territories have two rates of income tax - a lower rate and a higher rate.

More at the Canada Revenue Agency.

I suppose the Canadian government is lying about its own rates or something.

It’s not about stupidity, it’s about power. They want to hold and maintain it, and if Russia can help them do that, they’ll do that.

The “stupidity” part is believing they can control Russia, just as they thought they could control their Evangelical wingnuts (and Barry Goldwater warned them they couldn’t do that either).

Ok. They make things up all the time. Exxon claims they pay X amount in taxes. What they are claiming is all the sales taxes that they collect. It’s not from earnings. Without the sales taxes there would be no money to build roads…

He is being disingenuous: He is taking that 15% top rate noted in my post above from the Canada Revenue Agency and applying it as if it is the only tax rate.

As that citation shows, that is not the case. He simply borrowed the last line of that and claimed that was Canada’s business tax rate.

Not really. If Trump has to run a primary campaign, that means less time/energy that can be devoted to being president and ignoring the PDB on international affairs. It also weakens Trump politically domestically, making our internal politics more problematic. Figure Trump losing ground domestically along with a couple of years of fucking shit up on the world stage, the US standing in the world will be, to use a technical term, very bad no good terrible. In short, it generates more chaos in US politics. With a zero sum mindset like Putin’s that’s a positive outcome for Russia.

Ugh,
Lived in Fort Collins for 6 years, lived in the area for 15 (and still do, 30 min away). Fort Collins is turning into CA in the sense of antivax, wheat gluten is satan, and outlawed sugar in any form in the schools (which is OK to some level but they cant bring something like cupcakes in for a birthday).

These people are stupid. In the article the head of the group states,
“It’s not about money. They want complete mind control,” Knodel says after the meeting in the lobby of the Fort Collins coffee shop. “They want to create two classes: the ultra rich and servants. At that point they would’ve taken over the world, and enslaved the population, and controlled everything.”

Are they so economically anxious that they will believe something proven false 500 years ago? IMHO the root cause of this stupid rising in my area is because the population has grown so much (and has the wealth) so those that haven’t seen any change for themselves are looking for a conspiracy theory… any theory than explain why they are being left behind.

They had a branch of this on Colorado State University’s campus when I was there 6 years ago. Talked to a few of them… all the crazy religious types (God done hid fossils to test our faith … etc).

Oh, FFS:

wonkette.com

Sixty-four Republicans from The Congressional Prayer Caucus sent a letter to AG Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III asking if Senator Bernie Sanders was imposing an unconstitutional religious test in his questioning over Russell Vought (Trump’s nominee to be the deputy director of the OMB) back in June.

That would be the same group that questioned Barack Obama over being a secret Muslim and Mitt Romney being too Mormon, thus both were disqualified to be President.

The issue was Sanders’s line of questioning over Vought’s open-and-public statements against Muslims based on his Christian faith, asking if he could fairly do his job as a government official for all people.

Predictably the wingnut-o-sphere is exploding over at places like The Regurgitant and The Daily Caller. Not just them though: Hemant Mehta at The Friendly Atheist blog and The Atlantic are also questioning whether Vought, who wrote a very public theological paper on Muslims going to hell, should have been subjected to a line of questioning asking whether he would treat Muslims fairly.

The liberal Christian Sojourners blog thinks at worst Sanders conflated a religious question “are Muslims going to Hell” with a public policy question “will you treat Muslims fairly.”

IMHO the root cause of this stupid rising in my area is because the population has grown so much (and has the wealth) so those that haven’t seen any change for themselves are looking for a conspiracy theory… any theory than explain why they are being left behind.

No conspiracy theory is needed to explain why almost everyone except the ultra-wealthy is getting left behind economically in the US. This is just the normal functioning of under-regulated capitalism where a plutocracy has captured most of the political system.

Yeah.

I get into discussions with the ‘But they’re good people’ folks every so often - you know, the ones who say, “They voted for him because he gave them hope!”, and I’m sorry, but I really can’t cut them any slack. Trump is such an obvious, transparent, clumsy con man that I can’t really feel any sympathy for anyone dumb enough to have been taken in.

It’s the same thing with “Trump voters are either racist, or okay with racism”. One of my friends objected, saying that some of them weren’t okay with racism, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. To my mind, that’s not really different.

Found this baby buck in the basin of a swimming pool. He could barely keep his head above the water and I have no idea how long he was in there, but he was screaming LOUD. He was able to get his front hooves out on top of the coping and I raised his rear up with a pole and got him out. Problem solved right? Wrong. The neighborhood dogs came over to see what all the noise was about. They saw the buck and quickly snuck underneath the fence and chased him to the other side of the yard, and the picture above is the result. I called the neighbor next door and we tied his hooves and put Vaseline on his hips. I pulled him out safely and the neighbor took him to the local vet. The vet said he was near death from the exhaustion and the bleeding since the fur on his hips and rear hooves was completely gone and he is now on an IV and resting. I hope the little bugger makes it.

The weekly meet-ups also give forum to friendly lines of questioning. Some are straightforward (“What do you say back to people who call you stupid?”) and summon a ready-made answer (“You’re not stupid, period. They have to understand that there are deceptions going on at enormous levels”). Others stump even the experts. “How are we Flat Earthers supposed to explain to our friends the solar eclipse in August?” asked one attendee. The room fell silent. “We’ll have to do more research and get back to you on that.”

One company, Joseph J. Magnolia Inc., filed a $2.98 million mechanic’s lien in December. According to the filing, the firm worked on the hotel from September 2014 to December 2016 and “completed all plumbing, mechanical and HVAC work, along with site sewer, water, storm and water services.”

AES Electrical Inc., based in Laurel, Md., says it’s owed $2.075 million for its work on the hotel for the same period of time as Magnolia.

Sterling, Va.,-based A&D Construction filed a lien in November saying it was owed $79,700. The firm’s lawyer, Richard Sissman, says A&D is a small, Hispanic-owned company that was subcontracting on the Trump hotel project.

“The nature of the work was … trim and casework and architectural millwork, wall base, crown molding; this is all fine carpentry,” he says.

Sissman says A&D’s lien is relatively small compared to the other two, but it’s a lot of money to his client.

“On these big jobs these should be paid. It’s ridiculous that a small-time operator has to beg for its money,” he says. “It’s put him in a very bad situation right now.”

I’m hearing a half-dozen assorted German plaintives in my head seeing that photo. I only know them phonetically, but none of them are good, and even the religious ones roughly translate as “Oh, what the fuck.”

[“Trump’s Defining Speech”
WSJ Editorial]

At the end of his partial post of the WSJ editorial, I’d love to change the ‘Read the full editorial here.’ link to Jamelle Bouie’s

[…]

Donald Trump went to Europe and, in keeping with his campaign and influences, gave a speech with clear links to white nationalist thought. To pretend otherwise, to ignore the context of this address—to place Trump in a vacuum of history and politics, divorced from his own persona—is, at best, to cross the line into willful ignorance.

While spying on right wing radio today, a new NRA commercial came on. This one had a daughter of one of the cops killed during the Dallas protest that she called “a protest against the police.” If I remember correctly, three black men were killed in one week about this time last year. One I can’t remember, the guy in Baton Rouge, and Castile in St. Paul. The protests were AGAINST THOSE SHOOTINGS. They were NOT protests against the police.

I watched Maddow’s segment on being fed a forged ‘Top Secret’ document that would have been earthshattering if true, but which upon close inspection appears to have been a cut-and-paste job from the NSA report The Intercept published.

Then I read Glenn Greenwald’s response to it. Oh. My. God. The unremitting butthurt of that guy! What an asshole! He spends a very few sentences on the implications of her report - that somebody is shopping documents to news sources that can be instantly debunked, a la the Rather/Bush TANG documents - but the rest of it was just whining that she was implying something negative about The Intercept.

What a jerk.

There are few that are as insufferable as Greenwald and I am glad to sse that the planet is catching on to what a boring, lying douche he is.
