To seek asylum? Interesting choice.

As I’ve noted before, if Mr. Trump wants to flee the country (and another nation will take him), I’m all for it.

Bonus: That wouldn’t be a really good look for the GOP.

Lest you forget, the GOP is all in for the troops. Congressman Phil Roe (R-Tenn) thinks veterans should be paying for their benefits.

stripes.com

They support the troops though. (spit)

WASHINGTON - Congress is in the early stages of considering a mandate for servicemembers to pay into the GI Bill - a proposal that has drawn sharp criticism from one veterans organization, while another argues it would improve and protect the education benefit for the long haul.

The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs gave veterans groups a draft last week of legislation that would deduct $100 from servicemembers’ basic pay each month for two years, for a total of $2,400, in order for them to receive education benefits. The Post-9/11 GI Bill created in 2009 doesn’t require servicemembers to pay into it, but an earlier version of the benefit - the Montgomery GI Bill - mandated recipients to pay $100 per month for one year.

Veterans of Foreign Wars issued a statement Tuesday, calling the proposed $2,400 buy-in a “tax on troops” that VA committee leadership was attempting to pass quickly and quietly, without allowing opposition the chance to speak up.

But even with that, the rest of the GOP is so joined at the hip to Trump and his malfeasance that they’re along for the ride and show no intention to bail.

I’m of the age where most of my friends have been establishing their families over the last few years. The oldest kid I know is …4? (Clearly I keep close tabs, haha.) The youngest was born in May. At least two have autism.

I know some of my friends are struggling right now with what’s happening and doing their best to fight back. My heart hurts for them, especially those who had been trying for a while before finally succeeding …just in time for the election.

For us the decision not to have any was made well before this.

Yes! They’re pulling firefighters from the scene so they can focus on fires closer to towns. The fire did not grow at all last night. It’s 20% contained and is burning in mixed conifer and timber and beetle killed forest far from any structures. The Forest Service is just kind of letting it do its thing for now, letting nature take its course.

Doing nothing about it is costing billions in damage, lost tourism and the like. Insurance companies are taking a huge hit for all the damage from extreme weather.

These people lack vision, lack knowledge/understanding. Even if you don’t believe that we run the risk of losing everything long term even in the short term the cost of weather changing is already extreme and costing business huge sums.

Gingrich and Hastert were also S-class hypocrites in that stupid GOP boondoggle.

It would be much simpler to just list the honest Republicans in office, and note that every Republican that doesn’t make the list is a liar, cheat, thief, hypocrite and/or criminal.

It would be a very short list.

Every time I feel despair about the state of our nation, I recall other times in our history where everything seemed bleak, crises far worse so than what we are currently confronting: the Civil War, the Depression, the 1930’s, WWII, Vietnam. We managed to survive though it took awhile to recover from some of these. We can get through this too if we persevere and don’t allow them to drive us into inaction.

You know what, I never thought about that but that could be a possibility. I don’t know. There’s just something odd about how Sanders who if he actually wanted to be taken seriously as a leader in the Democratic Party (I know he’s not a Democrat) would take a big lead on this but he doesn’t. I definitely do not think Sanders is as clean as his supporters think he is. Whether it’s Russia related or other issues, there’s something not right.

Right, we know about Stein so it really wouldn’t surprise me about Sanders either. I hate to sound this way but it’s worth noting how much Sanders tone changed from Fall 2015 to Winter 2016. Maybe one can attribute that to him getting cocky by his own success but something’s really weird here.

Bernie is not a class warrior. He was quite happy holding conventional political positions. His period in the Senate did not demonstrate any interest in truly rocking the boat. Hmmm — could his entire campaign actually have been suggested by some Russian contact?

I dunno. I think if that were the case, you would have seen him primary Obama in 2012. I dunno though. Now, from what I know about both on the surface, they seem fairly innocent but I don’t know. I just don’t. When I see these stories of flooding, forest fires etc I think how the conservatives say that Global warming and taxes to fight it are bad for business and will ruin the economy.

Tourism? Like trump cares about tourism. He’s rejecting visitors. Tourism is billions off and likely not going to rebound. We’re losing foreign talen . Trump is not at all good for business.

Except, a few days ago, he was one of only two Senators who voted against preservation of stronger Russian sanctions.

Exactly. Now the story I’ve heard is he did that because of something with the Iranian deal that was included but it just mystifies me that he’d be the only Dem to have that concern. I dunno. I just don’t trust Sanders at all anymore.

Guys help me out here though. I don’t sound crazy regarding Sanders do I? I’ve never been a CT mind but I can’t be the only one who has observed that Sanders is strangely on the quiet side on this issue. He’s also not vocal on condemning Putin’s imperialism and autocratic behavior as other Dems. Hell, as much as I dislike the Concern Twins of McCain and Graham, they probably condemn Putin more than Sanders does.

I think the charitable interpretation is that he thinks the Russia story is more esoteric and less applicable to people’s everyday lives than issues like the economy, healthcare, etc. That’s the motivation I’ll assume he has until I see evidence of a more sinister motive.

Just realized that the KC-130 apparently hit inverted. Note tail ramp, lower left.

An AC-130 accidentally lost control going inverted during test flight maneuvers two years ago. It had to be scrapped after G limit overload.

My first stepdad sold computers to McChord AFB and as a favor one of his contacts there got me some time on the 130 simulator in 1991. It’s an incredibly stable aircraft and while I’m no expert I suspect the pilot was doing something way off script.

From Wikipedia

I had forgotten about this bit of patriotism from Flynt.

BeachDem, if she is around, can back me on an old Columbus Ohio and Larry Flynt story.

He once owned a big old Bexley classic home right off East Broad Street just behind the private Columbus School for Girls. That was back in the 70s. It was always quite the joke.

I knew one of his photographers. And my old boss at an ad agency worked for Hustler as an editor for a bit. The guy I jam with on Friday nights knew his first wife Althea.

Reports have been that it was seen spiraling into the ground, like in a flat spin.
I can’t be sure, but based on the wreckage, I’m not sure the cockpit came down with the rest of the plane. The forward portion of the fuselage should extend about as far forward from the wingbox as the aft section does. And, that’s not seen in the images of the wreckage.

I think the charitable interpretation is that he thinks the Russia story is more esoteric and less applicable to people’s everyday lives than issues like the economy, healthcare, etc. That’s the motivation I’ll assume he has until I see evidence of a more sinister motive.

Last evening at a dinner with friends, a woman who isn’t as invested in political details was describing the Russian investigation as a worthless distraction and was more concerned about the lack of civility between the parties and inability of elected officials to work together for the betterment of this country. She did not support Trump but she said that people voted for him because they were tired of the stalemate in Washington and thought that a businessman would be more effective in getting both sides together.

She was highly critical of the Democrats for not proposing an alternative health plan and not offering to get together to work with Republicans behind closed doors to craft a working plan. She thought the Democrats were as bad as the GOP in continuing the conflict. The rest of the party did not share her views and the discussion became very heated.

My experience is that most people live outside the political realm and see little and understand less of the current dynamics of politics.

And while we’re celebrating, people should realize that these Democrats, I am pretty darn sure, are conservatives. re: #265 Teukka

One thing that comes to mind is a control surface failure.

Possible in the newer aircraft. The original Hercules aircraft had mechanical flight control linkages that were boosted by hydraulics so even if the hydraulics totally failed the pilot and co-pilot working in tandem could still physically muscle the plane around. Original cockpits even had places for them to put their feet in case they needed to deadlift the plane out of a steep dive.

When I see businesses start trying to get out of their contracts with Trump and begin removing his name from their properties I’ll believe this is all going somewhere.

In Toronto, Trump was paid $6 million to let them take his name off the building.

I’m just replying.

And while we’re celebrating, people should realize that these Democrats, I am pretty darn sure, are conservatives. I’m sure their social issues align with Democrats, but I bet their spending choices would make the Republican governor of Massachusetts wonder how many people they plan on starving. In other words, they’re what we can get in that area.

Note: I am speculating based on where they are and who they replaced.

That’s what groups like act blue don’t get: all politics is local. You’re going to have varied colored dog Democrats because that’s what can get elected in various area. That lack of understanding about local politics is what drives me nuts about these groups. Bernie type Dems won’t see the light of day in OK. Maybe in the future but not now.

I think it’s the Politico story (so many tonight!) that mentioned some in the admin are pissed at Pence for distancing himself with his ‘during campaign, before my time’ comment.

Puff the magic dragon crossed with a cargo plane & tanker? Wild level of multi-tasking there. Hadn’t heard of that one before, thanks!

Yeah, they roll on a pallet with a 30mm cannon on board to shoot out of one of the rear jump doors, they mount a targeting system to one of the external fuel tank, mount hellfire missiles on wing hard points and launch Griffin missiles out the ramp.

I, for one, can’t wait to see the core of the regime turn on Pence. It’s bound to happen. He was always a tagalong meant to snare the Dominionist vote, and will soon display his own craven lust for power that will conflict with Team tRump.

I think the charitable interpretation is that he thinks the Russia story is more esoteric and less applicable to people’s everyday lives than issues like the economy, healthcare, etc. That’s the motivation I’ll assume he has until I see evidence of a more sinister motive.

The less charitable interpretation is that his huge surprise win in the Michigan primary was the Russians doing a test-run on their meddling methods, and he found out after but said nothing. Which makes him complicit.

When I see businesses start trying to get out of their contracts with Trump and begin removing his name from their properties I’ll believe this is all going somewhere.

The NYC apartment building now known as 60 Riverside Drive used to be called Trump Place. The tenants all chipped in to pay to have the big gold letters taken off.

re: #200 ObserverArt

BeachDem, if she is around, can back me on an old Columbus Ohio and Larry Flynt story.

He once owned a big old Bexley classic home right off East Broad Street just behind the private Columbus School for Girls. That was back in the 70s. It was always quite the joke.

I knew one of his photographers. And my old boss at an ad agency worked for Hustler as an editor for a bit. The guy I jam with on Friday nights knew his first wife Althea.

Yep. I had friends who worked for him back in the day. And one of my best friends lived right next to CSG and there were stories (I can’t remember them all now, but they were interesting)
