Composed, arranged and performed by Adam Palma

⋆⋆⋆ New album “Palm-istry” is out! ⋆⋆⋆
The new album of Polish-born, and now British, virtuoso acoustic guitarist Adam Palma is an energetic mixture of stunning original compositions and arrangements of well-known classics. Adam is one of the few guitarists - or maybe even the only one - to have been invited on-stage to join all three of the legendary guitarists, Al Di Meola, Tommy Emmanuel and Bireli Lagrene. The recognition and friendship of these masters have inspired Adam to record this fantastic solo album. Adam, however, went further: he turned this experience into his own statement of artistic expression that has attracted the attention of guitar magazines around the world.
“Palm-istry” is a mysterious journey inspired by Adam’s influences. We get some funky fingerstyle “Rheged”, rocking in “Healthy Optimism” and “Rock’n’Rules”, a Jimi Hendrix tribute “Hendrix Medley”, Adam’s new fascination triggered by his friendships with Al Di Meola (“Love and longing”, “Gondolier”), boom-chick as the consequence of years of cooperation with Tommy Emmanuel (“Kentucky Miners”), a tribute to Django Reinhardt (“Nuages”) and more, including two beautiful arrangements of themes of the Polish TV series (“07 come in” and “More Than Life at Stake”).

Yeah, actually. When Hillary said Trump was Putin’s puppet I paid attention.

Assuming that’s what you were talking about. 😢

Kinda sorta, but I was thinking about the overall State of the Union.

Calling Drumpf a puppet is one thing, but wondering if the US is a puppet state is an altogether different thing.

I’m already back from my assignment on the Peekaboo Ck fire in NW Colorado. We put the fire out in a very short time.

Teleskiguy - passed through your hometown (Steamboat Springs) last Friday night at about 11:30. Could not believe the stench floating in the air. Then realized everyone was outside along the main drag smoking pot. Outside the pot shop were 40-50 people belching smoke into the air. Didn’t need to make a purchase to get high.

To each, his own.

Speaking of which, the Super-Hero genre is well played out by now, I think, creatively if not in box office.

I wonder though why no one has made a feature length large screen production about Super Hero Jesus.

Nearly all films of old, and contemporary TV, work hard to have Gospel-based productions that seem like real history. All the way to methods of dress, foods characters eat, Roman soldiers in proper uniforms, etc.

But that leaves out the good parts of the Gospels. Jesus flying in the air (Superman) with Satan… or clearing out the entire Temple square of a couple hundred thousand square feet filled with hundreds or thousands of people (some Incredible Hulk type of action here)… or making a tree wither on command (super-psychic like Jean Grey).

Lots of good superhero stuff that could be put on screen. And much more in-tune with the actual content of the Gospels, rather than the previous Hollywood attempts at making Jesus just a Jewish guy.

makeitstop  Jul 14, 2017 • 5:28:28am

Josh Marshall makes an important point about the Trump Cult’s ‘war on the media’ - at bottom, well, it’s all fucking fake news. Emphasis mine.

I was tempted to say this was a paradox. But it’s too straightforward for paradox. The key truth of Trumpism is that for all the purported hatred of “the media”, the main Trumpers are almost all fundamentally media creatures. They think in media terms. They are media creations.

Trump himself is a self-creation of the 80s and 90s New York City tabloid culture. His comeback in the early part of this century was driven more than most people understand by the success of The Apprentice. Why else do you think people in the Philippines or Kazakhstan paid millions to license Trump’s name? It was the brand driver of the licensing empire which allowed Trump to become the 45th President.

Steve Bannon was a publisher. Before that he was a movie producer. Jared Kushner bought a newspaper and used it to fight his battles in the press. On down the list they are all media people. They don’t hate the media. Indeed, they can only understand most battles in media terms. You see this in Kushner’s frenzied and inane demands to deploy communications office staffers to battle cable news producers over chyrons or “unleash surrogates immediately”, as a Politico story this afternoon has him demanding of Sean Spicer and Sarah Sanders.

They don’t “hate” the media anymore than fish hate the water. Shouting and messaging and attacks are the only language they really understand. What they hate is that they feel like they’re losing on the terrain they believe is the only one that really matters.

Greets and saluts from the resistance in the soggy NYC metro area. The sky outside may be gray, but that’s nothing compared to the mood in the WH these days.

Every fucking day there’s a new revelation that Trump and his inner circle of cronies did stuff that would get ordinary Americans frog marched for. Lying on security clearance forms is no biggie for the GOP. Lying 100x on security clearance forms like Kushner did? Yeah, that’s still not getting more than a shrug.

But it’s not just Kushner. Junior failed to acknowledge that another Russian was in the meeting with him, Kushner, and Manafort.

Turns out that this guy was a former Soviet spook who is believed to still have connections to Russian intel services. In other words, if this meeting was all about adoption, the only possible explanation was that Putin was trying to adopt Trump. That’s funny, but it may also be true.

Dr Lizardo  Jul 14, 2017 • 6:05:14am

So. I’m sort of getting into this whole “buying groceries online and having them delivered” thing. I placed my order today, and I arranged to have it delivered tomorrow morning. The delivery charge is remarkably inexpensive; about $1.50 for a $38 order. And hopefully, it’ll be like last time, where the order showed up right on time. I’m using an online supermarket, kosik . cz; surprisingly, they’re really the only outfit here in the country that does it. Tesco, the British chain, does offer delivery but only in Prague and the surrounding area and a small part of Brno and Amazon doesn’t have a presence in the country yet, though they’re scheduled to by second quarter of next year.

It’s all a media show to Trump - he loves pomp and circumstance, and doesn’t care about the specifics.

Morning…

So, what are these reports there was another individual in the Trump Tower meeting last June. Just saw it mentioned on a quick news segment on local TV.

Who the hell are they covering up for now?

And to touch on something from late last night regarding healthcare. I had posted Rand Paul was a firm no on the newest version of McConnell’s bill.

I see a few LGF members said Rand would buckle and fold. Do they realize the reason he isn’t going to vote in favor is because the bill is too much ACA and not enough cruel?

It is the contrast between the stand Rand is taking versus where Susan Collins is at that is wrecking it all for McConnell. There are others that lean toward Rand and others that lean toward Collins.

This is why there are many Republicans hiding in the background that really want it to fail so they can say they tried and it is time to work in a bi-partisan manner. They just can’t come out and say it because they boxed themselves in the last seven years.

And I have a feeling one of the people that wants it to fail the most is McConnell. He’s just about whipped. No time to stop beating on him and them now.

This is also a great example of politicians playing to their media that created their base. They can’t say and do what is right for this country when they know it is right.

Turn your TVs off politicians. Radios too. And stop the red meat interviews to hold onto that base. Try to do your freakin’ jobs for once.

This is a crazy situation over in Jerusalem. Apparent terror attack in Jerusalem at the Temple Mount. Two Israeli police were killed as three assailants opened fire on them from the Temple Mount (meaning the weapons were smuggled into the Temple Mount past Israeli security.

Leave it to the AP to mangle the location. It was within the area sacred to both Jews and Muslims.

Israeli security has closed off the entire area to all parishioners, and Abbas has been in contact with Netanyahu over it. Israel has reiterated that it will reopen the area to both Jews and Muslims once the investigation is completed. I suspect that there will be far more security thereafter.

I can’t wait for Trump to jump ugly with this news, because of course he will. That’s how he rolls.

Update:

The whole point of the terror attack was to get an overreaction and set the entire region afire with renewed conflict in Israel. Wider war, and conflict/misery for millions.

Leave it to Trump and his reactionary ignorance to try and fulfill the terrorists’ aims.

Around 2000, we went through an online grocery phase here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. It was great. The food was really good, and I still have the refrigerator magnet of a lemon cut up to look like a pig. The problem was that it was easy enough to set them up that we quickly ended up with more stores than the area could handle and they all went out of business.

The newer model coming in is for grocery stores to collect all of the stuff and meet you at the curb. In order to keep the food fresh, you have to keep a warehouse about the same temp as a grocery store anyway, so why not also offer people the option of walking down the aisles?

This is why Son of Erick will not accept the truth about Trump, even though he doesn’t like Trump. Eric has to be in denial of criticism of Trump from anyone who might be tinged with Evolution. The only valid criticisms of Trump are Eric’s own criticisms, from religious dogma.

Our daughter loves the pick up service at Kroger. Her theory, which seems sound, is that it saves on impulse buying, along with being convenient.

“Common sense, for instance, dictates that close family members be defined to include grandparents,” Watson said in his ruling. “Indeed grandparents are the epitome of close family members.”

re: #83 jaunte

The SF 86 makes it explicitly clear on the form itself that lies/omissions from the form are criminal acts: false statements/concealment.

Penalties for Inaccurate or False Statements
The U.S. Criminal Code (title 18, section 1001) provides that knowingly falsifying or concealing a material fact is a felony which may result in fines and/or up to five (5)years imprisonment. In addition, Federal agencies generally fire, do not grant a security clearance, or disqualify individuals who have materially and deliberately falsified these forms, and this remains a part of the permanent record for future placements (emphasis added by me). Your prospects of placement or security clearance are better if you answer all questions truthfully and completely. You will have adequate opportunity to explain any information you provide on this form and to make your comments part of the record.

That’s on page fucking 2.

These people have repeatedly lied and omitted 100s of meetings in direct violation of the law. Kushner’s security clearance should not only have been revoked, but his arrest and charge with multiple counts of violations of 18 USC 1001 should be a foregone conclusion.

You don’t get to redo your clearance form. This isn’t a single meeting from years ago that was overlooked. It was 100+ meetings. That’s not some minor oversight. It was with intent to deceive.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-seven percent (57%) disapprove.

The latest figures for Trump include 27% who ‘Strongly Approve’ of the way Trump is performing and 48% who ‘Strongly Disapprove’. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21. (see trends).

Regular updates are posted Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.

Rasmussen is pretty consistently +8 for Trump; that tells me, using the power of math, that Trump is probably around 35%, which is pretty consistent with other national polls.

I’m working on a song. It’s a bit nasty as far as sound wise. But I want it that way because last November was nasty.

One verse is:

You’ve taken an institution
Turned it into a joke.
How long will you be laughing.
How long will this seem funny.
How long will you…

I usually don’t post my own music here, but your comment brought this to mind, even down to a similar choice of lyrics!

This was the title track of a full album I wrote in 2002 about the Bush administration, but it can apply to the present gang of thugs as well. It’s called ‘Den Of Thieves.’

You learned well at your daddy’s knee
Nothing’s ever what it seems
You wanna take while the taking’s good
Wrecking lives and stealing dreams

Yo don’t want to lend a helping hand
You want to bring us all to our knees
Don’t talk to me about honor and dignity
You took my country, turned it into a den of thieves

Anger makes me wanna scream and shout
When I look at all the harm you’ve done
Freedom comes to those who pay
Justice comes from the barrel of a gun

You’ve thrown America half a world away
Flown away on the wings of a lie
You sit and laugh while the money rolls in
And out in that desert people die

The article notes that Senator Sasse has gone along with Trump 95% of the time, despite being a “never Trumper.” I had hopes for him when he came out strongly against Mr. Trump in the primaries, but he is falling in line like a good apparatchik.

Moreover, Sen. Sasse is a history major. He (should) know better. I thought at the time as a new face in the GOP he was trying to position himself as the voice of reason, so when it all came apart he could come out and say “I told you so” to his own party.

Seems not. I really want to know where the Republican politician stamping plant is located, so we can have it inspected.

The GOP don’t care. #GOPDontCare - doesn’t just apply to health coverage.

It’s their entire worldview (except for tax cuts, that’s the only thing they do care about - when it applies to millionaires like Trump).

Anyone other than this cabal of cronies doing what they’ve done would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The prosecutions may still be forthcoming, but the GOP is running interference to keep Kushner and Sessions from feeling any of the ramifications that any ordinary member of the US military or civilian government would face had they done what Kushner did - lie wholesale on their SF 86.

I ran across a comment over at Wonkette in the middle of a discussion about sewing.

I know about as much about sewing as I do about high-speed stock trades, but the gist of the comment thread was someone found a Website that sells vintage clothing patterns by Simplicity, McCalls, &c.

I mentioned that to my wife, and she was “oboyoboyoboyoboy.” She jumped in and ordered patterns for mod clothes for me circa 1970 (that ought to go over well here), and a dress called a “walk-away wrap dress” that was so popular at the time (1952) that Butterick had to suspend production of all patterns to keep up with that one.

Off-topic:

Ahem. And where is the link???

Even that infographic is incomplete, since under Donny Jr and Manafort they should refer to fact that Kushner, Manafort, and Jr. all attended that meeting with multiple Russian nationals with intent to get dirt from Russian intel on Clinton.

Of that group, Manafort would be most familiar with the law - and he did nothing (unless he’s singing like a canary to the investigators in lieu for a plea deal).

Uh-oh. Trump’s lawyer might be a crazy bastard, but even he realizes it might be time to slowly back away from the tire fire in a dumpster.

Some of the President’s closest aides, who were traveling with him back from Europe, then helped strategize about a response for Trump Jr., according to people briefed on the matter. The Times first reported on the crafting of the statement.

A sensitive legal matter such as this would normally have been handled by the attorneys, given that it was about the Russia investigation.

But the President’s lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, who is designated to handle personal legal issues, was not traveling with the President and was largely uninvolved, according to the people familiar with the matter. The Times reported Wednesday that the President himself approved the statement, raising the possibility the President may have opened himself up to new legal issues not covered by attorney-client privilege. Jay Sekulow, the President’s attorney, denied that Trump was involved.

Just got one of my Senator Durbin’s emails:

The Durbin Report: President Trump Needs To Stand Up To Russia For Attacking Our Democracy

Fellow Illinoisan,

Just last week, we celebrated America’s independence and reaffirmed our faith in our great experiment in democracy. This week, that great experiment of ours is under threat. Because of Russian arrogance and President Donald Trump’s inability to level with the American people, we face the danger of a constitutional crisis.

It seems like every 15 minutes, there is a new story about the president’s associates’ interactions with Russia. And now the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., is involved.

Trump Jr. met last year with a foreign person who claimed to be working with the Russian government and promised to help his father win the election. Based on the emails that Trump Jr. himself released, it appears that he colluded with Russia to affect the outcome of our election and may have violated federal law. To make matters worse, this news came out on the heels of President Trump’s G-20 meeting in Warsaw where he made the ridiculous suggestion that we partner with Russia on a cybersecurity task force.

Meanwhile, the White House response to all of this has been misdirection, denial, and silence. So what can Americans and lawmakers do about it?

First, Republicans in the House should stop coddling Russia and pass the Senate’s Russia sanctions bill. Second, the White House needs to work with us to protect states’ election infrastructure. And third, Congress must engage in a comprehensive investigation to get to the bottom of what occurred in this dark chapter of America’s history. President Trump needs to stop stonewalling and let Congress and Special Prosecutor Bob Mueller do their job.

Two hundred and forty one years ago, our founding fathers had the courage to risk their lives for the inalienable rights that we all cherish. It is now up to us to defend those rights from Russian meddling and presidential intrigue.

Sincerely,

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin

I follow the SPLC’s page on Facebook. They have been posting stories about men and women of color who were murdered by whites and whose killers were never prosecuted or outright acquitted due to racism on juries. Today’s story:
Zennie Fuller, who was white, owned a septic tank installation service in Monroe, Louisiana. He owed Albert and David Pitts, Marshall Johns, Ernest McPharland, and Willie Gibson, who were black, back-wages.

When they tried to ask him about their paychecks, Fuller — who eventually became a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan —shot them to death.

Fifty-seven years later, their families have received no justice. They’re just some of the Forgotten

My mother was not even a year old in 1960 when this happened. It’s NOT ancient history.

He was investigated and released.

lsucoldcaseproject.com

The Unsolved Civil Rights-Era Murders Project at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication, through the Freedom of Information Act, obtained 50-year-old FBI investigative reports on Fuller, now deceased, from the period. He was investigated and cleared in the July 13, 1960, shooting deaths of farm hands, but in 2007 the killings made it on to the Department of Justice’s Cold Case Initiative list of 112 homicide cases from that time period Congress ordered reopened.

Fuller shot and killed the three dismissed black employees who had confronted him on his property, critically wounding two others. Ostensibly, the FBI said, the men were there to collect pay, although accounts differed with other witnesses stating the men were there to hurt Fuller. (The Department of Justice reclosed the cases of the three dead men, Ernest McPharland, Albert Pitts and Marshall Johns, on April 22, 2012.)

While under investigation, Fuller was accused by FBI Special Agent William Dent of making threatening phone calls to his home. Described as a “hot head” by FBI sources, Fuller rarely used words to resolve issues, preferring a more physical means of problem solving.

Want to reduce officer involved shootings; change the law:

[Embedded content]

It wont stop all officer involved shootings, but it does give clearer guidance on when deadly force can and should be used. And it works. This goes hand in hand with training and tactics, as well as making sure that officers that are disciplined and fired for excessive force aren’t able to find jobs elsewhere despite their record.

And if not the law, at least the training of police officers. Police shootings, especially fatal ones, are rare here in Sweden. And they are trained to try their best to de-escalate a situation. More than once, police officers have been quoted as saying “If I have to pull out my service firearm, I have failed.”
Legally, police have the right to open fire without warning. However, it is customary here to fire a handful of warning rounds before firing for effect. Also, primary aiming points are extremities (i.e. non-lethal in majority of cases), but there are levels of threat when Swedish police will use directly lethal force to end it.
Also, swedish police is rolling out trials of tasers as we speak.

Also, primary aiming points are extremities (i.e. non-lethal in majority of cases), but there are levels of threat when Swedish police will use directly lethal force to end it.
Also, swedish police is rolling out trials of tasers as we speak.

During the recent unpleasantness here in Hamburg* a cop shot a warning shot at a guy who was beating up another guy and refused to stop.

That warning shot is being investigated.** It’s just so sweet! And I don’t want to discourage that scrupulousness! I don’t want them slipping down a slope to anything like the US! It’s still adorable, though.

*I was not here, as I knew that at best it would be locked down by security, and at worst it would end in a nuclear fireball. And I didn’t want to be in the same city as That Asshole.

**Of course, the full police response is being investigated in much more detail, as it was… sub-optimal.

Governor Ricketts declared my county a disaster area due to the tornadoes last month.

Haven’t seen much in the way of the state round these parts though.

Hell no to Bernie Sanders in 2020. He’s already done way too much damage, between screwing up his central message and not really trying to curb the excesses of the BernieBros.

It would be a huge mistake and it’s not just because of his age. He’s just not a good candidate or a leader.

Every use of a firearm is investigated here (in Sweden and Finland) as well, even accidental discharges. A note to the side is that here, most criminals know to back the fuck down when an officers draws his or her firearm, or at least after warning shots have been fired.

Remember Rosemary Woods “accidentally” erasing 18 minutes of White House tapes?

So, maybe that excuse works once. Twice? Three Times?

Kick ‘em out for rank incompetence at the very least, but mostly for telling lies a two-year old knows is a lie.

If the idiots that voted for The Orange Mess had any sense at all they would know they are being mocked by Trump. They should feel used and abused, but then they must like it.

And that $182 billion claim is a fib too. Their supposed “savings” come from counting the same pot of money three times.

You get the money if you can find the pea under one of these three cups.

I love how the girl often starts out with an exasperated look on her face, but it turns into a real smile when she starts to dance.

Kinda cool Members of Congress’ homes can have moats, drawbridges, turrets, portcullises, murder-holes & arrowslits. Just like olde times!

And they can be hoist by their own petards!!!

I’m sorry Scalise and the others were shot but can’t help but to say I’m a bit peeved that the time for drastic measures wasn’t thought after Giffords was shot nor did any of these Congressional Republicans offer anything other than empty thoughts and prayers after Sandy Hook.

I love our country but dare I say, I might have a much more nuanced vision if I were a POC. And it’s a shame that many other whites can’t understand that.

Sadly too many don’t want to understand. It is much easier to have someone you think is lesser then you. They do not understand that makes them lesser than those they look down on.

Again…they say we are a country founded on Christian Ideals. Pfffft.

Well, it already blows, but you know what I mean.

Yep. And you know what, it’s not just generational as we’ve said. But I think there’s another thing, I think people aren’t really aware that the past never really goes away, it just fades like the sun in the evening but it’s always present even in the darkest hours of the night.

Yup, and they’ll leave us to the mercy of all the wingnuts with guns they unleashed while protecting themselves with campaign funds. I suspect they will be working on using tax money for that next.
