Oops, He “Forgot!” Also at That Trump Tower Meeting With Donald Trump Jr.: A Former Soviet Spy

Politics • Views: 34,218

NBC News

And the shoes continue to drop!

Oddly enough, Donald Trump Jr. forgot to mention that Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya brought a friend with her to that June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower — a friend who just happens to be a former Soviet counterintelligence officer.

WASHINGTON — The Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. and others on the Trump team after a promise of compromising material on Hillary Clinton was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counterintelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence, NBC News has learned.

Everyone involved is just laughing about how forgetful Trump Jr. is! What a scamp!

Alan Futerfas, the attorney retained by Donald Trump Jr., told NBC News two other people accompanied Veselnitskaya to the meeting — someone Futerfas described as a translator and someone he described as a “friend of Emin [Agalarov]’s and maybe as a friend of Natalia [Veselnitskaya]’s.”

Futerfas said he has talked with that individual. “He is a U.S. citizen. He told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question.”

it really doesn’t shock me that the Trump crew is this corrupt, it really doesn’t, we had plenty of clues with stiffed contractors, get rich quick schemes with the money laundering thru his casinos, Trump Steaks and Trump University… we knew all of that and knew beforehand what a petty venal creature he is…

what really pisses me off and actually shocks me that even despite all of that veneer, the GOP is essentially cut from the same cloth, they may serve a different master whose interest coincide with who owns Trump, but to find out that there really isn’t even an iota of a scintilla of shame in their ranks in regards to what they’re doing, knowingly and knowing the damage caused and that they have no compunction to continue to behave and speak the way that they do… I can understand the utter disdain that they’ve earned and hope that there is still enough of a foundation of this country’s systems and institutions that will allow itself to defend the ideals and Constitution that this country was founded on.

it really doesn’t shock me that the Trump crew is this corrupt, it really doesn’t, we had plenty of clues..

We were all quite well aware of his extensive business dealings with Russia and other ex-Soviet republics, and we were aware of the close connections between his business partners there and the Russian government.

But those who wanted to connect the dots were unable to do so, and those were able to do so were somehow unwilling…

I knew very little about Mr. Trump when he announced his campaign. (That said, his “Mexican rapists” comment was enough for me to put him in the Steve King column of bigots.) I suspect that’s the same with a lot of people around here: No one was really familiar with Donald Trump’s past, and had no way of researching it. (FOX, Christian hate radio, and Sinclair sure weren’t talking about it, neither was the newspaper. The kitten-grabbing comment got no coverage here, nor his stiffing of contractors, or the allegations of hiring undocumented Polish workers, &c &c &c).

Trump’s been in the tabloid press since at least the 1970’s, when he was a regular at Studio 54. Granted, that was largely limited to local NYC tabloid media, but by the late ’80s, he was certainly known on a national level. “The Art of the Deal” was a bestselling book (about 1 million copies) and he was an almost constant fixture on a lot of the TV talk shows of the era.

Per Susan’s last point. Jared lied on his first SF-86. That’s material violation of 18 USC 1001. That’s one count punishable by up to 5 years.

Then he lied again through omitting the Don Jr meeting. That’s another count.

He’s looking at 2 counts of 18 USC 1001, each with 5 years.

And the GOP will continue enabling Trump and Jared to continue breaking the law. They are complicit in these criminal acts, and the bare minimum action now is that Jared loses security clearances and resigns, but the GOP will do what it can to prevent that from happening.

Wikileaks was always a tool of Russia to sow discord, reveal US natsec, and undermine US national security and foreign policy agenda.

It’s always important to note that Wikileaks doesn’t reveal sensitive info about Russia - it’s a one way street, where US and our allies see our intel released, while Russia is safe from those leaks.

Hmmm, in the Seventies I was still a teenager. In the Eighties I was mostly at sea. I’d heard of his book but was not interested.

As for TV talk shows, that would require cable service around here (and before that, Sinclair still owned all the broadcast outlets). He wasn’t covered on Christian hate radio (I’ve never in my life heard another kind) except in glowing terms, and the same on Limbaugh’s and Hannity’s radio shows.

Without Internet service, the vast majority of people in these parts are left to the media, and all of it skews right-wing.

Trump has been in the news since the late 70s, and much of the coverage showed exactly how much of an arrogant ass he was. Maybe once I saw him as a public figure, I must have been aware of him that any time his name popped up I had more to add to my mind’s Trump databank.

Not aimed at you ‘mouse, but this is what happens when people do not make themselves familiar with a candidate. We had one-and-a-half years to learn. But too many let the TV media do all thew work and as we have seen they fell down on the job.

Damn, if only all of America could have seen that documentary movie that Trump fought to have never released. It was all anyone needed to know. I watched it again in late 2015 and I have been trying to find the link. I think the site I saw it on now only has a trailer. I believe YouTube has it, but it now a small fee to view it.

I’ll see if I can find it. Even though it is too late, maybe some would still like to see it.

AFAIK, they CAN’T cover Trump. The RNC is set up as a fundraiser for the GOP. All the money they raise goes to elections across the country, not to pay legal bills.

I don’t recall the DNC covering Clinton’s bills after he was impeached. In fact, I think it took him and Hillary a few years to pay off all the lawyers.

Gotta hand it to conservatives, they’re consistent.

Yesterday, maybe because of that symbol, someone threw a rock through his car’s back window, shattering the glass where it hit.

We don’t know who did it… but the rock had the message “God is good” written on it. So take a wild guess.

One of the long-standing complaints about women in the Navy was they took up shore billets (meaning men were at sea far longer).

The solution was to open up seagoing billets for women (that also allowed women a better chance to compete for advancement, since sea duty is pretty much a requirement in the Navy).

Then the complaint was “women on ships.”

As my mother (a Navy veteran) put it during her time in the Navy when women were only allowed to serve on support ships and not combat vessels: She’d much rather be on a ship that could defend itself rather than a floating target for a submarine or aircraft.

When I told some of my students about Trump’s adventures as a would-be casino magnate, they simply couldn’t believe that anyone……anyone….could bankrupt a casino. The common view, here at least, is that owning a casino is a like having an ATM machine in your bedroom that spits out money 24/7.

He didn’t bankrupt a casino.

He went bankrupt with his casinos six times. 6 times (but three occurred in such close proximity to each other that they’re often considered one time).

Let’s put it this way:

For months, the Brit Humes of the press argued that Democrats were being “hysterical” and similar sentiments because “There’s no proof of any meetings with Russian officials by the Trump campaign.”

Then the evidence of meetings began coming out, at which time the narrative changed to “Well, there were meetings, but these were in passing and nobody can be expected to know who they were dealing with.”

Then specific Russians were showing up again and again in meetings, forcing the narrative to change to “Well yes, these meetings happened, but they were in an official capacity!”

Now comes Don Jr and his meeting and suddenly the changes in narrative are happening by the hour. From “this was a harmless meeting” to “it was a set-up” to (now) “so what if it happened, everybody has these meetings.”

Next up is going to be “So yes, the Russians were directly helping the Trump campaign, but that’s okay because Hillary needed to lose!”

Junior went on a fishing trip. He took a boat out with the expectation to catch fish. He called a couple of pals to join him. None of them caught any fish. They returned without any fish.

They went fishing. That was the intent. That all they got was sunburn is besides the point.

Taken to the current situation, Jared went on a fishing expedition to get dirt on Clinton from someone he knew or had reason to know was a foreign national. He called in Jared and Manafort (and others) to hear this dirt. The meeting (at least according to Junior as of this moment) didn’t reveal any dirt on Clinton. There was no dirt to be had.

It doesn’t matter that they didn’t get what they sought. It was the intent to get the dirt from foreign nationals that matters.

At the same time, Jamie Gorelick, a politically well connected lawyer who has been representing Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, is dropping out of the case, turning over all responsibilities for the Russia investigation to Abbe Lowell, another high profile Washington criminal defense lawyer.

In the coming weeks, Gorelick will be “wrapping up” her representation of Kushner on issues relating to ethics and his security clearance form, the sources said. But Lowell, a skilled litigator who has represented clients ranging from former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) to corrupt Washington fixer Jack Abramoff, will exclusively represent Kushner in inquires being conducted by congressional committees and Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller.

The only ones making out like bandits under Trump at present are criminal defense attorneys with a particular set of skills (RICO, white collar, mob defense, natsec, etc.)

re: #151 KGxvi

I have a rule against putting anything on my car. Other than when I was in high school and put a US Water Polo sticker on the bumper of my little pick up, it’s a rule I’ve maintained through three vehicles.

Me too. No way to identify politics, religion, race, sports teams, etc.

I worked with a guy that bought a BMW M3. He could be a real prick about where he parked, etc. I have mentioned I worked with racing teams and car people, so you can imagine how everyone felt about that. We all had decent cars, we all could drive and park, etc.

I asked him one day why he thought I would hit his car with my door when I too would have damaged my door. Went right over his arrogant head.

A few months later in NHL Hockey season he went to a Columbus Blue Jackets game and parked in a public parking garage by the arena. He parked his car at an angle and took up two spaces so he could give clearances to the sides of his car.

Guess how that went over with others looking for a parking space?

He came back to his car after the game and found it was keyed by probably two or more people. Not just a scratch. We are talking many scratches and some letting like “asshole” “prick” “f-you,” etc. And some of the scratches were deep, like to bare metal.

Taught him a lesson big time.

If you like your car, always be on the down-low with anything that makes you stand out too much.

The GOP is plainly OK with a gang of criminal thugs in the executive branch because tax cuts, Jeebus, and pissing off liberals.

In the face of overwhelming GOP treachery, the only response of media both-siderists to this is to deplore the excesses of both sides equally, with frequent reference to imaginary crimes of liberals, or to the supposed acts of the five remaining members of the CPUSA.

We’ve always has a sizable fraction of the US electorate that was malicious and pig-ignorant. What’s new is regarding reason and willful ignorance as being two opposite and comparable sides.

to put on the bumper.

I had the Darwin fish on my Honda Accord back in my first marriage when I was in my late 20s. We went camping up in Felton in the mountains above Santa Cruz once, and the couple next to us had an Accord too…with a Jesus fish on it. They at one point invited us over for wine with their parents who were RVing there. At some point, the guy says to me, “We saw you have an Accord just like ours and you have a fish on the back.”
I said, “Yes, but mine’s a little different…it has feet and says ‘Darwin’ in the middle.”
They all looked at the backs of both of our cars again, saw the difference, then said, “Oh…that’s okay. Isn’t it honey? Yes. That’s okay.”

The Patriarch of the family then decided that, since we weren’t religious, it was okay to start telling jokes…mild sexism first, then pretty raunchy racism. Longest 30 minutes of the weekend.

Summary: A new report in Science identifies a neural circuit in the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex of mouse brains that may play a key role in social dominane. VOCABULARY WORD OF THE DAY:

The greater omentum (also the great omentum, omentum majus, gastrocolic omentum, epiploon, or, especially in animals, caul) is a large apron-like fold of visceral peritoneum that hangs down from the stomach. It extends from the greater curvature of the stomach, passing in front of the small intestines and doubles back to ascend to the transverse colon before reaching to the posterior abdominal wall. The greater omentum is larger than the lesser omentum, which hangs down from the liver to the lesser curvature. The common anatomical term “epiploic” derives from “epiploon”, from the Greek epipleein, meaning to float or sail on, since the greater omentum appears to float on the surface of the intestines. It is the first structure observed when the abdominal cavity is opened anteriorly.[1]

Come on ‘mouse. It’s GOHMERT!

Ideas take a brain.

I had to leave for a bit: The well telephoned me to tell me it was lonely.

Part of the problem with our alarm system is we had for a while after our long-serving village clerk died, a whole bunch of people who were unlicensed running our water system who didn’t know jack about how the system works. They messed with the water tower and well settings so they wouldn’t be bothered in the middle of the night.

I dug out the manuals for the water alarm system and went back to the manufacturer’s original default settings for our village. Hopefully that will fix the wells or water towers calling every six hours asking for flowers and chocolates.

This isn’t a civilization-killer, but an indication of a civilization-killer. I think of the circumstances in a little bit older history, back in the 16th and 17th century when the Ottoman Empire were sweeping across the countryside, they pressed [people] into slavery. They wanted to have their crack troops and other troops, too. But what they did to keep them from reproducing was that they did reassignment surgery on those slaves that they captured that they put in their troops. They took them from being a male and suitable to work in the army and they put them out in the field to do battle against the enemy and they didn’t have the testosterone to take on the fight and they figured out how to stop turning these men into eunuchs…None of the men had the will to fight. They decided that when they kept complete men in their troops, they fought well. So that’s a lesson from the Ottoman Empire…This is one of the most appallingly stupid things I’ve seen the Congress of the United States do.

I hate to exaggerate, but this has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read.

Only because of the GOP, and their base. We’re there even a few real patriotic Republicans, we could remove those who are trying to destroy everything, and put ourselves back on solid footing. The problem is that this is the logical conclusion of Republican attempts at absolute control.

Our hope right now is that voters vote in 2018 and again in 2020, and that we can minimize the damage until then. And if that voting doesn’t occur, then, yes, the US is done as a major power.

Here’s some good news from my little corner of the planet:

Back in May, The Husband got The Kid a job with the same company he works for (different locations, they don’t work together). Better pay and less public contact than the grocery store, The Kid seems to like the new job a lot.

Anyhow, The Husband got a call from one of the regional managers last night saying that they LOVE The Kid. He’s a hard worker, gets along with everyone and is doing a great job and we should be very proud of him. They know about him being on the autism spectrum and have been super patient and kind to him. This is one of those companies that touts their Christian values, but they actually DO that, not just run their mouths about it. They also aren’t all in your face super crispy Jesus-y about it either. The Kid is thriving. He went to see Metallica over the weekend and was able to meet members of other bands (local guys) who were there to see the show too. Now if we could just transfer that work ethic to stuff at home, I would be beyond thrilled.

It’s about time some good stuff happened here, good god this year has sucked up to now.

This can be discerned from a quick read-through on the Wikipedia article.

Part of it was it used to be not so common to find out, I think?

Out of my friends, a few have found out ahead of time. No one has done the stupid party thing. Of those who’ve found out, not everyone has shared the info anyway.

My parents chose the surprise route for the first two but did cave on the third because Mom wanted to know if she needed to go buy “boy” type clothes. (I think she would have only really cared when it came to formal stuff, because I’m pretty sure there would have otherwise still been a lot of recycling going on.)

Fascinating fact: The president can pardon anyone-quite possibly including himself-for federal crimes. Not state crimes. Tampering with elections, money laundering, and the like are also rather frequently prohibited by the states as well. No presidential pardon would be applicable.

Good grief, I forgot that! I was just going on the calculus that Trump pardoning Kushner would just end it for Trump, and he would not do it while he still thought he could personally wriggle out of consequences.

We had our first one as a surprise and we found out on our second one, just because (no cheesy “reveal party” or anything like that). My son was awesome, though, because my mother-in-law had, without our knowing it, knit him a hat before he was born… and she guessed the right gender. Well, “guessed” is the wrong word. She claims she “knew”. When you’ve had seven children and 20 grandchildren, I suppose she might be closer to knowing than guessing on grandchild #21.

This is part of the reason no one wants to serve in local government: It takes a lot of your time and you don’t get much thanks for the job.

The irrigation canal that runs through our village is about to overflow, thanks to all the water tower dumps we did to disinfect our water tower. It doesn’t matter that the village doesn’t own the canal, the board would catch crap if it does overflow and flood peoples’ homes.

I just got off a round of telephone tag trying to find out who has the authority to inspect the canal and find out why its backed up. I finally got hold of one of the members of the board that controls the canal … they will send someone out this afternoon to check it out.

The fellow notes that the north end of the canal (which goes through a cornfield and a pasture north of town) is not level, and that might be why its backing up. My non-engineering eye notes that on one side of a street it flows under the level is different than the other side of the street - hence, the culvert is plugged.

As such, they will also look at that, and if its plugged clean it out today.

(All the other board members have day jobs, so I’m the go-to guy for everyone’s complaints. The whole town knows where I live and what my phone number is. Should have gotten an unlisted phone number.)

Oh well, someone’s gotta do it, might as well be me. If nothing else, I am building a reputation that the local Democrat on the board cares about the people in town.

Folks in my family who made things in advance of my son’s birth (we did not know until he was born) made things that were suitable for either sex. Thus he got a lot of green, yellow, &c. Kid probably didn’t see a single blue thing until he was about nine months old.

When I had our kids (early ’80s) there was a difference in what parents-to-be were sharing even within the 18 months between my kids. Ultrasounds were just becoming common and people were starting to bring the pictures home and share them by the time I had my second child, but not so much when I had my first. We knew the sex of the second child about a month ahead only because I had to have amniocentesis, but otherwise neither my OB or I would have thought to do an ultrasound.

Generally, people have been oversharing for a long time. Now with social media they just have to up the ante like they do with prom invites and the like.

No, it’s illegal if the intent is to use the documents to commit a crime. There are plenty of things you do that are ordinarily legal, but if they are done to further illegal aims, then they are a crime.

Another example of this is the crime of felony murder. If you commit (or even attempt to commit) a felony and someone dies in the process, you are liable for first degree murder. As an example, you decide to rob a bank and actually go through with it, you tie up a security guard and gag him, as a result of the gag he suffocates and dies (or it triggers a cardiac arrest) - even though you didn’t intend to kill him, he died as a result of your felonious actions (robbing the bank), and therefore you’re liable for first degree murder.

Not really. 3-4 years has been the norm for actors in the roles. The only real outliers have been Tom Baker (7 years), Colin Baker (2 seasons, with an 18 month gap between each), and Christopher Eccelston (1 year). (EDIT: Oh yeah, and Paul McGann- one reboot pilot, and a webisode 20 years later.)

But any attorney could get someone off for possession of documents if the bank hasn’t been robbed and no one cops to the fact they were actually going to rob it. Right?

It’s going to be harder to get someone of for Russian collusion especially when it’s known that meetings with varying and ever changing reasons have taken place.

My (first) wife did not have an ultrasound. We went through a certified nurse-midwife, and the obstetrician in charge did not do ultrasounds unless they were medically necessary.

Thus we found out my son’s sex when he was born at home. (Born at home in the late Eighties was not real common in the USA.)

The biggest problem was getting CHAMPUS to pay for it: Despite CHAMPUS saying they pay for certified nurse-midwives, and the total cost for all prenatal care, birth, and post-natal care out to six weeks being $700, the person overseeing the programme for Virginia Beach was an obstetrician who saw midwives as competition and repeatedly rejected our claims. It took a letter to my congressman to get him to authorise payment (after a year).

re: #468 Anymouse 🌹

Spellcheck is knot proofreading.

I’ve known and worked with typesetter proofers and AP News editors/proofers and proofreading is an art.

A lot of old typesetters used to read their sentences backwards with the thinking you catch more errors because you are not able to form the sentence pattern and overlook words because you already have an idea what they should say. You concentrate on the word more.

Once they go through in reverse for detail then they read it properly to make sure it is the correct wording, sentence flow, etc.

And the biggie. It has to be someone that had nothing to do with the composing. The fresher the eye and the newer it all is the better to catch the errors. Proofreading your own stuff is not the best way as you are sure it is correct because you know how it sounds and the intent you had spelling.

And it is always in the headline. The more obvious the place, and the least amount of words is dangerous. it’s why we always see signs with glaring errors. It looked good to someone and there were only a few words.

Judge tosses jury conviction of the woman who laughed during Jeff Sessions’s confirmation hearing and orders new trial.

A D.C. judge has tossed out a jury’s conviction of a protester who laughed during Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Senate confirmation hearing, finding on Friday that the government had improperly argued during the trial that her laughter was enough to merit a guilty verdict. The judge ordered a new trial in the case, setting a court date for Sept. 1.

Desiree Fairooz, 61, who was associated with the group Code Pink, had been convicted of disorderly and disruptive conduct and demonstrating inside the Capitol. Fairooz was taken into custody during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in January after she laughed when Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) claimed Sessions had a “clear and well-documented” record of “treating all Americans equally under the law.” (The Senate rejected Sessions’ nomination for a federal judgeship in the 1980s over concerns about his views on race.)

Fudge brownie update.

They are good. Yay, Betty Crocker!

I dosed the tater tots with salt and Old Bay seasoning - a wild north country staple. They are yum.

I’m doing tequila-lime burgers with a summer-y pasta salad.

Going to be some tomatoes, onion, pepper, corn, and zucchini in there, I think, and the sauce a mix of avocado and Greek yogurt. I suppose I need to start getting the kitchen prepped at some point.

You are far more healthy than I. The only things I’ve had to eat and/or drink today are: Domino’s pan pizza, fried tater tots, and whiskey. Perhaps blended with some Pepsi, but still.

Isn’t that a bit redundant? Old Bay is very salty.

Man! How can you drink that stuff?? It’ll kill you for sure! (the Pepsi, that is: the whiskey’s just fine….)

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong have teamed to form a new supergroup called the Armstrongs. Billie Joe’s son Joey Armstrong (of the punk band SWMRS) and Tim’s nephew Rey Armstrong round out the quartet, which also released their first song, “If There Was Ever a Time.”

ARMSTRONGS - IF THERE WAS EVER A TIME

“Donny being called a kid is just a symptom of White privilege. If he was a Black 39-year old man, no one would refer to him that way.”

Right you are. I was reading some research on race last month which indicated that black youths are not seen as kids the same way white youths are. Tamir Rice is an example of that. He was a child in age and temperament, but to those police officers, he was an “adult” male who happened to be black and therefore was thought to pose a “serious “threat” to them.
