Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong have teamed to form a new supergroup called the Armstrongs. Billie Joe’s son Joey Armstrong (of the punk band SWMRS) and Tim’s nephew Rey Armstrong round out the quartet, which also released their first song, “If There Was Ever a Time.”

Geez, I can’t think of a clearer display of incompetence.

The water tower gave up calling me, it called the other water water operator an hour ago (I guess it swings both ways).

She and I are going to sit down with the manuals tomorrow and try to figure out what the heck is wrong with our alarm system. (The two well pumps are trying to run at the same time, it rings when there is not a problem, &c.)

I’m glad computers have solved all our problems and saved us so much time. /s

Well, just realized why I never ever listen or watch Alex Jones. All that bigotry and hateful lying going unanswered is just enraging. Even set to Bon Iver I was getting more angry by the verse. I got pretty good anger management skills. That guy puts them to the test as much as our so called President does.

I think what gets me a little bit is the memory of CL writing, well posting and Paging out her frustration at the anti Muslim hate and sheer heartlessness of it all. May we all keep finding the time and strength to push back.

Without going all Godwin on all of you, this headline gives me the creeps.

In memo, Trump administration weighs expanding the expedited deportation powers of DHS

The Trump administration is weighing a new policy to dramatically expand the Department of Homeland Security’s powers to expedite the deportations of some illegal immigrants.

Since 2004, the agency has been authorized to bypass immigration courts only for immigrants who had been living in the country illegally for less than two weeks and were apprehended within 100 miles of the border.

Under the proposal, the agency would be empowered to seek the expedited removal of illegal immigrants apprehended anywhere in the United States who cannot prove they have lived in the country continuously for more than 90 days, according to a 13-page internal agency memo obtained by The Washington Post.

The new guidelines, if enacted, would represent a major expansion of the agency’s authority to speed up deportations under President Trump, who has made border security a top priority.

Speaking of which, BioLogos put up a new video of physicist Ard Louis attacking ID, but at the same time lamenting those nasty worldview-evolutionists:

Evolution and Intelligent Design with Ard Louis

Can’t link to the Vimeo video directly, so you’ll need to go to their site to view, but they have a transcript:

[…]

Then you have evolution as a kind of a world view. From George Gaylord Simpson, “Man is a product of a process which did not have him in mind. He was not planned.” Those are theological statements that are put on top of evolution.

[…]

While that statement of Simpson may be considered “theological” - though the better term is teleological - the problem is that the onus when asserting that man is an intentional (planned) product of evolution is on those who want to propose this.

Here is where BioLogos is doing the Jesus-shuffle.

[Intelligent Design is] also problematic, I think, because it’s not based enough on Scripture. The difficulties for Christians in interpreting the evolutionary story in Scripture have to do with natural history. It has to do with the idea that the world is old. Is the world old or is the world young? That’s where some people feel the Bible and science have some friction. I think that’s not necessary. That’s where important interpretative work has to happen. I worry that this intelligent design argument pulls us away from the Bible in a way that isn’t helpful.

This assertion by Louis - the need for “interpretive work” -
is just stating that there is a need for new quest for concordism. But the concordism route has been shown to be futile, because the holy books of Christianity are rife with errors.

No matter how hard they try, BioLogos can’t escape that they suffer from the same problems as all creationists. To them, their third way (not literal Biblical creationism, not ID) - “evolutionary creationism” - is somehow superior.

But it’s not. It still suffers from the same fallacies as all arguments from mysticism.

Jennifer Rubin’s on a tear:

Let me suggest the real problem is not the Trump family, but the GOP. To paraphrase Brooks, “It takes generations to hammer ethical considerations out of a [party’s] mind and to replace them entirely with the ruthless logic of winning and losing.” Again, to borrow from Brooks, beyond partisanship the GOP evidences “no attachment to any external moral truth or ethical code.

“Let’s dispense with the “Democrats are just as bad” defense. First, I don’t much care; we collectively face a party in charge of virtually the entire federal government and the vast majority of statehouses and governorships. It’s that party’s inner moral rot that must concern us for now. Second, it’s simply not true, and saying so reveals the origin of the problem — a “woe is me” sense of victimhood that grossly exaggerates the opposition’s ills and in turn justifies its own egregious political judgments and rhetoric. If the GOP had not become unhinged about the Clintons, would it have rationalized Trump as the lesser of two evils? Only in the crazed bubble of right-wing hysteria does an ethically challenged, moderate Democrat become a threat to Western civilization and Trump the salvation of America.

Indeed, for decades now, demonization — of gays, immigrants, Democrats, the media, feminists, etc. — has been the animating spirit behind much of the right. It has distorted its assessment of reality, giving us anti-immigrant hysteria, promulgating disrespect for the law (how many “respectable” conservatives suggested disregarding the Supreme Court’s decision on gay marriage?), elevating Fox News hosts’ blatantly false propaganda as the counterweight to liberal media bias and preventing serious policy debate. For seven years, the party vilified Obamacare without an accurate assessment of its faults and feasible alternative plans. “Obama bad” or “Clinton bad” became the only credo — leaving the party, as Brooks said of the Trump clan, with “no attachment to any external moral truth or ethical code” — and no coherent policies for governing.

Free Republic is having trouble again. “John” is heading back to San Jose to stare at the servers. Meanwhile a Freeper has offered advice:

To: Jim Robinson

It is a threading problem. Multicore CPU’s don’t play well with legacy code. I know. I code. Have John hunt around in BIOS and turn of hyperthreading and anything to do with multi threads. Add an API call to bind any single request to a single core. [bolding mine]

Now, I know nothing about the matter, but “legacy code?” You mean that it is so outdated and hasn’t been tinkered with in so long that the whole things is tottering?
Tell me again why they need to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to keep this going…

“Jennifer Rubin’s on a tear:”

As I recall, Rubin was “on a tear” during the last administration, too, as she rubber-stamped everything the GOP did. A better use of her time then would have been spent identifying the things in this piece that are wrong with her party and its members, but she didn’t. I have zero sympathy for her or Brooks because they aided and abetted the rise of the current crop of GOPers.
