I actually like this version better for some reason. Kudos to the guys that edited this. They made it look easy, I’m certain it was not.

We talk about Trump….

They talk about Hillary….

We talk about Trump being a racist…

but her e-mails…

We talk about Trump being a sexual predator…

but her e-mails

We talk about Trump not disclosing his taxes…

but her e-mails

We talk about Trump and his phony Foundations

Hillary had a Foundation too

We talk about the Russians…

Hillary knew Russians too

We talk about the DNC hack

Supposedly Hillary did it in some pervasive Jedi doublethink mind trick… ummm yeah

We talk about the money, who does he owe, who’s paying the bills..

Hillary got paid for speeches

so… obviously both sides…

I see where Megyn Kelly is interviewing Betsy DeVos tonight.

I’m not watching, but I do have interest in what she says being her first interview. I hope Kelly asks some decent questions, it will be good for America to hear more about the new Church Lady in charge of our schools.

One thing about the ‘net is you don’t have to watch the TV show, you can get a feel for it from how it is covered and the comments at place like here at LGF. Plus video clips everywhere.

Hey, a chance to display this…

Fine we should clear out nearly all the Russian diplos pending resolution of their election attacks, not just here but at any and all allies or democracies. Kick em all out for 90 days, pull ours. Just keep the functional crews at the embassy for American needs.

I don’t advocate moving troops or military shows of force on this. None of that but a generous portion on the diplomatic side. How else to respond to such a brazen act?

Fox is really dumpster diving these days aren’t they? The Judge is admitting she’d be on her way to hell to find out oppo info on her opponents. Clue for the Judge. Look around the Fox studios Jeanine, you are in hell. You already made your deal with the devil. We all know it.

Say hi to Rupert for us down there!

I know they will always have their viewers at Fox News, but I hope the crazier they get the more they start to lose people.

Who knows, maybe somewhere in America someone heard the judge and said “oh my gawd, did you here that, she would work with the devil? We are not watching her no more.”

And then someone else says: “Hannity says it’s okay to deal with the Russians. In my day we didn’t deal with Russians. Don’t think I’m ‘bout to start now truth be told.”

Yeah, I can dream. Sigh.

53
Anymouse 🌹  Jul 16, 2017 • 2:01:18pm

Media click bait - Story alleging that “strange signals” from a nearby star might be something of a mystery (therefore aliens).

msn.com

They cite SETI, but of note they take SETI out of context.

The radio signals appear to be coming from Ross 128, a red dwarf star that’s not yet known to have any planets and is about 2,800 times dimmer than the sun. Abel Méndez, an astrobiologist at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo, said the star was observed for 10 minutes, during which time the signal was picked up and “almost periodic”.

Deep in the article they note the Arecibo Radio Telescope is going to take another look at this star, and the area surrounding it.

Of note, I run SETI’s distributed computing program on my home computer. SETI has put nothing out on its own messages (which come directly to people running SETI@home for BOINC) indicating anything at all about this signal or potential for alien life.

We need better science communicators in the news media.

I think we’re looking at about a third of the country’s adults who simply have so much invested in being a conservative republican that there’s no way in hell they can be reached. They’re also heavily invested in being angry and mean over shit that doesn’t exist.

The Husband has a friend in his late 30’s. He’s a cute guy, has an adorable family, is a really great and involved Dad (his kids are 3 and 5), and if you leave politics out of it, he’s funny and cool to hang out with. But…

He’s a freaking crazy ass gun nut. I mean to the point of posting shit on the 4th of July showing all his guns laid out on an American flag while he’s “cleaning his Freedom”. Seriously. He grew up in a law enforcement family (though he never became a cop or joined the military, interesting….) that is super conservative and that shit is embedded in his brain. The Muslims are coming to get us all, the Democrats want to take his guns (which is interesting since he’s got about 20, from handguns to AKs and no one has knocked on his door to take them or we’d have ALL heard about it by now). What sucks is that I like the guy, he’s got super firm morals, an amazing work ethic and like I said, he’s a real family guy, super involved.

So the old folks who love them some Rush and Hannity and watch FOX all day have given birth to kids like our friend, and that shit will get passed down. I don’t know how we minimize this shit. They’re pissed off at a caricature of Liberals that simply doesn’t exist. They’re scared of things that have no basis in reality, how do you combat that? I don’t think you can. Which means we have to go around them to the best of our ability and leave them behind so we can clean up the mess they helped make.

OT rant. Feel free to ignore.
Someone should tell the state of Washington that visiting the state’s beautiful natural areas is confusing as hell. Do we need a Discovery Pass? Oops, no, this area requires a Northwest Forest Pass, but it seems to be closed to traffic anyway if I understand correctly. Well, how about that area over there? Who knows? OK, tell me about the trails in your state park over here. No, not the camping and the beach-the trails. And I really don’t trust the state because 5 years ago, when we were out in the middle of nowhere in eastern WA we were confronted with a sign informing us we needed a pass, but with no information about what is was and where to get one. It was sufficiently remote that we just left a note on the dashboard pointing out we’d love to buy a pass but had no idea how to do that out there and came to no harm.

I know they aren’t responsible for the Forest Service and all, but for visitors coming to just have a look around, you’d think the Chamber of Commerce or someone would have a site to explain the different state and federally managed areas and where you could pay on the spot, and where you’d need to buy what kind of pass ahead of time.

On the other hand, I’m looking forward to our trip to Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Peninsula. 2 glorious weeks. Leaving mañana.

It’s something like religion, you can’t reason someone out of a position they reasoned themselves into (or were indoctrinated into). They will have to do it themselves.

Such thinking has always been thus: move forward three steps, backward two.

As far as the gun nut with all his guns laid out on a flag, I guess he hasn’t heard of the US Flag Code (which prohibits such things). Another fair weather meme patriot. I have little use for that sort of thing. (Perhaps that’s why my town has me in charge of the Flag Committee.)

Owning so many guns (unless he is some sort of collector) makes one wonder what he’s afraid of (but I’ll bet I can guess: liberals, people who don’t look like him, big scary government that through taxation provided most of the modern conveniences he has today, &c)

They also fail to see that electing people into office that 1) say they hate the government and 2) are tied to the business corruption are a key to the problem.

I will never figure out why in the hell you would elect people to do jobs for a government they proclaim loudly that they hate. Would you hire a babysitter that openly states they hate kids? A veterinarian that loathes animals? Would they want a teacher for their kids who was a child abuser? So why the fuck is electing people to office the exception to that? It totally freaks me out.

He’s afraid of what he’s been told to be afraid of, told and taught. He lives in a nice area, good schools, low crime rates, and yet he acts like he’s living in some third world hellhole. But he has never once had to use those weapons for defense and most likely never will. He is very careful, has all those weapons under lock and key, built a couple of them himself, so he knows what he’s doing as opposed to some of the idiots around here. But still, all that money could pay for some time in college or the private school his little girl goes to. He owns his own business and employed The Husband once when he was between jobs and we were struggling. It’s hard to reconcile those two parts of his personality. I am not sure he’s completely unreachable but he’d need to give up some very ingrained habits (talk radio, crap on Facebook, etc)

He knows I am Liberal and I think he’s a bit intimidated by me, lol. I can get him to sit down and drink with me sometimes and when I do, I can sort of penetrate the shell, but he truly doesn’t get it. I think he thinks I’m not the typical Liberal and that I’m some sort of rare creature.

Shoot, I had to leave, but wanted to reply to Anymouse:

re: #149 Anymouse 🌹

Well, that goes back to the old joke, “How do you know someone is a vegan? They’ll tell you.”

What’s undeniably bad for the environment is trucking or shipping vegetables all over the planet. You know what we can grow around here? Cattle, chickens, sheep, corn, and wheat.

If you’re “thinking globally but acting locally” you know what you buy to eat here? Beef, chicken, mutton or lamb, corn, and wheat.

I’ve been in a running argument with a moonbat vegan on another site now for four days who is trying to convince me (a city water operator) that the reason there is no Vitamin B-12 in water is because chlorination by cities kills it.

(For the record, B-12 grows in the gut bacteria of ruminants, and certain algae that is not found on this continent. You can get it from grass that has cow pies in it. It is not recommended to eat cow pies, though I’ll bet there’s a moonbat out there who thinks that’s fine. It is not found in water except water with dead animals in it, chlorine does not destroy B-12, cities are not required to chlorinate water unless they have contamination in their water supplies, and homeowners with wells are not required to chlorinate water ever.)

Ok, so the vast majority of vegetation grown is to feed livestock. I know there are small communities in which Betsy the Cow is still grazing on grass, but vast majority of animal products are produced from factory farms, and those farms are feeding their cows large amounts of soybeans. There are no credible studies that dispute the idea that vegan diets are better for the environment.

Moreover, it’s also undeniable that humans can get all nutrients from plants. As you noted, B12 is one thing that is difficult to get from plants, but we don’t need that much B12. We store it a long time and can easily take a supplement once in awhile and be fine.

The only argument in favor of eating meat is “I like it”. But considering that the animals in question are treated in a way that would get you arrested if you did it to a dog, I don’t see how that’s compelling.

re: #67 A Mom Anon

It’s an interesting phenomenon. I work in an extremely Republican area and with several hard right-wingers. When some discussions revealed I’m a liberal, they were shocked to discover that I wasn’t a “low information” voter; rather, they learned that I’m far more knowledgeable than they are about facts, government, the Constitution, etc.. I think it created some cognitive dissonance to learn that liberals aren’t like the caricature they’ve been fed for years. I can only hope that experience will give a least a few of them pause and get them to question what they’ve been told. Unlikely, I know, but they’ve at least learned that their talking points don’t reflect reality. It’s a start.

But seriously, we grow a shit ton of vegetables to feed livestock. If we just ate the veggies ourselves we’d save billions of gallons of water.

Just to note the scale of factory farming, humans kill around 56 billion animals each year for food/clothing/byproducts. We’re basically breeding them on massive scale for no good reason.

“Why do liberals hate you so much when you’re such a nice lady?”

“On a scale of one to ten, how close are you to God?”

I was hoping that Kelly would be off TV by now given how poorly in the ratings her show is. She can always weasel herself back to Fox News.

Young’s Literal Translation
Psalm 137

1 By rivers of Babylon — There we did sit, Yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.

2 On willows in its midst we hung our harps.

3 For there our captors asked us the words of a song, And our spoilers — joy: ‘Sing ye to us of a song of Zion.’

4 How do we sing the song of Jehovah, On the land of a stranger?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, my right hand forgetteth!

6 My tongue doth cleave to my palate, If I do not remember thee, If I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, Jehovah, for the sons of Edom, The day of Jerusalem, Those saying, ‘Rase, rase to its foundation!’

8 O daughter of Babylon, O destroyed one, O the happiness of him who repayeth to thee thy deed, That thou hast done to us.

9 O the happiness of him who doth seize, And hath dashed thy sucklings on the rock!

GOT

When everyone was talking about it, I got the first book from the library, and could not get into it at all. And I have read just about all of Tolkien, including all the extra bits. And LOTR (and even the Hobbit, and Harry Potter, for gosh sakes). So I finally got the discs of the first season, and talk about gratuitous…. stuff. Give me character development any time! So I have seen the first season, and tried the first book, but I’m bowing out. Sigh. And I wanted more dragons!

Two important features from the Washington Monthly, IMO:

Donald Trump Jr. was so far out of his League, by Martin Longman, referencing Julia Ioffe

This article talks about the Crown Prosecutor not being Natalia Veselnitskaya, but Yury Chaika, a BFD if true.

And my favorite Nancy LeTourneau says Kushner is at the heart of every issue related to the Russia story.

Neither is long, but they kept my attention!

That’s another thing that gets overlooked when people discuss Breaking Bad, the music. There were several brilliant music moments, especially as the series winded down. Like this song, as Walter is pushing a barrel of money through the desert right after Hank and Gomie are killed by the Nazis.

Unfortunately we can’t deport their top propaganda agents as well since most of the bastards are Americans if not administration officials.

well as an admitted fan of the genre, I was always more of a Glen Cook The Black Company fan, although there are many many fans of Erikson’s Malazan

Old Doctor Who fan here (as in used to run a fan club for one of the 1970’s companions, Harry Sullivan), but I’ve fallen away in the last few seasons. Liked Matt Smith’s Doctor, but never cottoned onto Clara as a companion, and wound up not watching most of Capaldi’s episodes. I thought he was great casting for the part, but the scripts didn’t grab me.

Will have to see what they do with the lady Doctor. I’m a bit disappointed in the casting — if they were going to do the first female Doctor, I wanted her to be older, the time crone who could channel Hartnell’s original cranky old coot. A kickass granny would’ve been fun, saving the universe and not taking any guff from a bad guy or a companion who isn’t dry behind the ears.

Oh well. If they’re going to pull this off, they’d better give her top—notch scripts and a great story arc. No romance, full agency, a couple of good companions. And yeah, at least one chance to use the term ‘mansplaining.’
