Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area. Some nasty storms came through last night across parts of NJ and NY, but mostly missed our area.
That’s kind of how Trumpcare will operate. It’s a shitstorm of epic proportions, but only the rich manage to avoid the consequences (unless by consequences you mean tax cuts).
Trumpcare is a tax cut scheme first and foremost. Any straight repeal, let alone repeal and replace is a tax cut scheme for the rich with all the burdens going to everyone else, especially those who are least capable of affording care/coverage.
Last night’s actions by the GOP shows that they have had 8 years to concoct a plan to replace Obamacare and they’re barely able to wrap their tiny little hands around repeal.
Repealing Obamacare in a straight repeal means 20+ million lose coverage, preexisting condition coverage is more expensive, dependents age 21-26 lose their coverage, etc., but the rich get their investment tax cut break. Medicaid expansion disappears too, so millions lose coverage.
Why? The GOP doesn’t have a plan to replace. They never did. None of their plans ever passed the smell test.
It’s why I continue to call Trumpcare and #GOPDontCare malware and vaporware. It’s not a plan so much as a plan to undermine health coverage for all Americans. It will jack up premiums and increase health care costs. It will spur medically induced bankruptcies and increase the uninsured rate to at or above pre-Obamacare levels, and the insurers will again be able to write policies that aren’t worth the paper they’re written on and wont cover even emergency situations due to how they’re written.
The GOP is a sham, and their supporters continue to buy this nonsense. They’re incapable to admitting to error, and the GOP feeds on this by continuing to claim that they’ll do a repeal now and a replacement down the road.
A replacement down the road that will likely end up looking like… wait for it…. Obamacare (because at its heart, the ACA is a hodgepodge of ideas, including ones that the Democrats included to entice GOP votes that never ended up coming). The GOP decided that their strategy would be to claim that all the ACA is socialism and against personal responsibility while it was the GOP (Heritage) that initiated the idea of the individual mandate to get people to pay into the insurance marketplaces.
The GOP has sued relentlessly over ACA implementation, and their biggest win was to avoid the Medicaid expansion. That’s the biggest loss for actual GOPers who live in those states, because GOP controlled states continue to see the worst uninsured rates in the nation. Meanwhile, states with Medicaid expansion have seen some of the biggest declines and stabilization of health providers.
The GOP will undo all this.
But don’t just take my word for it. Take theirs:

A lot of people seem pretty sure they (GOP) are just messing with us and they will still roll out the healthcare bill as is one way or another. They said it after the House bill passed. They said the week before the 4th they would push it through the week after. They said it all last week…it would be pushed through this week. Some are saying it will still be pushed through.
I expect for some time we are going to hear how the GOP will repeal it and kill insurance altogether.
Apparently what Americans in general think, what the insurance companies warn about and what the medical care industry fear and want has no bearing on the GOP doing what they are going to do.
One-sixth of the economy and we citizens and the real people in the business don’t have any bearing.
That is not politics, that is nuts. Maybe the Fox Facts work, so many moderate and far left liberals believe them too.
Anyone wonder why the left has a hard time in elections? This is a good study of the problem.

The current political climate is already looking dicey for Republicans as the 2018 midterms loom. Democrats have a 50/40 lead on the generic Congressional ballot. Much gets made of Donald Trump’s unpopularity and certainly it’s true voters don’t care for him- only 41% approve of the job he’s doing to 55% who disapprove. But Trump comes out looking positively popular compared to Paul Ryan (24/57 approval) and Mitch McConnell (18/58). Congress overall has an 11% approval rating, to 75% of voters who disapprove of it. Democrats should have the opportunity next year to turn them into bogeymen much as Republicans have with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in recent years.

Adoptable American babies, especially healthy white newborns, have been scarce ever since single mother stopped being the most embarrassing possible thing.
