I wouldn’t be so quick to jettison AG Jeff Sessions if I were Trump. If you tire of wiping your ass with the constitution and rule of law, it’s nice to have Jeffry around to wipe your ample ass with.

To really dump Trump, the GOP senators would have to accept a setback on their most cherished principles, the goals for which they have worked and whored their entire adulterous lives: tax cuts for the rich, repeal of environmental laws, and an end to the minimum wage. Do they really think he is that big a threat? Perhaps they think he is a risk to their agenda itself, social chaos and civil war are not good for business either.

Kitten update… Princess Onyx and Little Lord Storm have reached the ripe old age of 5-1/2 weeks. They are fully weaned and have mastered the litter box. (Yay us!) Their little personalities are really starting to come out and shine. Brightly. Aaaaaand they got me. In spite of my protestations and all of the very good and valid reasons to not do this, it appears that my family has increased by two. Forever. I love them. They love each other and they love me. How can I say no to this?

Home alterations are required to incorporate felines into a human-dog-cockatoo-fish world contained in a 34’ motorhome. They begin asap since the kittens are fast outgrowing the bathroom. We’re gonna soon find out how good a mom I am managing this mix. I’m fucking Gaia herself if I can pull this off without blood being drawn. LOL

True, but most Trump voters aren’t true believers in Trump IMO; they’re just rallying around him because he has an R next to his name. And it wouldn’t surprise me if his sudden about-face with Sessions causes Republican loyalists to sour on him. Because these more “levelheaded” Trump voters probably recognize that Jeff Sessions is the most effective member of Trump’s administration, and getting rid of him would jeopardize their cherished white supremacist agenda.

Indeed, I just read as much as I could stand of a Victor Davis Hanson drool saying Trump should lay off Sessions.

I’m not convinced that MOST Trump voters aren’t True Believers, however. As I’ve said before, Trump didn’t hijack the GOP, he crystallized it. But a lot of Conservatives found Sessions’ endorsement to be reason enough to accept Trump, and nobody’s been more loyal than Sessions, damn his eternal soul bless his heart. Trump’s amazingly cynical attacks on the man are giving a number of Conservatives pause.

Because these more “levelheaded” Trump voters probably recognize that Jeff Sessions is the most effective member of Trump’s administration, and getting rid of him would jeopardize their cherished white supremacist agenda.

That’s the real question IMO. The GOP base consists of ideologues and assholes, with a significant amount of overlap. For the ones that do overlap, which is more important, being an asshole or ideological discipline?

Remember that tr*mp in his campaign suggested that the rich should pay more in taxes, which is the ultimate GOP heresy. Therefore tr*mp is pure asshole. The ideological discipline seen in his cabinet picks is because Bannon (who is an ideologue) gives him a list of hard core RWNJs, and then tr*mp picks from the list according to who cringes and scrapes most satisfactorily.

But we just don’t know the numbers for the ideologue faction vs. the asshole faction of the GOP.

I actually think you’re wrong here - that may be true of a small minority of Trump voters, but I think the majority are true Trump believers. They either love him because he’s ‘politically incorrect’, which means they are assholes just like him and they love that someone can get away with being an asshole publicly every day, or they love him because he normalises evil, such as why the Nazis love him. But many are true believers mostly because FOX tells them to be. They see on FOX that people they hate hate him, so they love him, because they have no other purpose in life now that they have given over total emotional control to FOX.

In a sense, the only thing that would turn the majority of Trump voters is for FOX to turn on him. Which won’t happen unless something significant changes, because FOX can’t survive just on cheerleading. They have to stoke anger and hate, and Trump draws opposition, so they can stoke hate of Trump haters in their cult.

I have a professor friend who does military history. Of VDH he says (paraphrasing), ‘have to respect him on Greco-Roman world, but he invariably draws the wrong conclusions on our contemporary society.’

It isn’t just immigrants that are in danger; it’s anyone who even looks vaguely Hispanic. Because you know the mouthbreathers who’ll be drawn to acts of violence can’t tell who’s here legally or not, nor do they care.

Not even just that.

It’ll be anyone with a vaguely Middle Eastern last name too.

Did I mention my #MAGA father is the descendant of one of only seven brothers who came to this country 120 years ago with a last name ending in ‘-baba’?

Anyone who gets to see his last name, especially without seeing his whiter-than-Trump face, will be ready to heap abuse on him, and he doesn’t get that yet.

I do (not least because I already got “you effing Muslim bitch’ over the phone at my final. inbound customer-service job), but changing my last name legally would be way too much of a pain since, if I’m alive past May, I’m hoping to run anyway.

I read this on FB:

What the fuck is wrong with Americans who aren’t on board with free healthcare. I’m Canadian and i don’t care that I pay extra taxes so a little boy in Alberta can have open heart surgery, or and elderly man in Nova Scotia can get the heart medication he desperately needs. It’s called taking care of your people. I’m glad I pay so that people can have a good quality of life. It’s called being a decent fucking human being.

I know you know this very well Happy and your earlier comment about Bernie and the Dem platform was spot on but it’s easy to let the following facts slip into ‘givens’…

She won the popular vote
Russia interfered with our election with possible active collaboration of Americans and an American political party
First major election with gutted VRA
Voter suppression via years of state voter ID and gerrymandering bears fruit

These are not just givens. I always remind folks no matter what because they are horrifying truths that may signal what’s to come and they should embolden us to fight harder. We won yo! But it was “stolen”. We’re seeing something entirely undemocratic unfold to ensure we can’t win again.

These are the facts. We’re dealing with something illegitimate.

The version of the bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act, that the Senate voted down tonight included an agreement by Sens. Ted Cruz and Rob Portman that added $100 billion to help low-income people transitioning off of Medicaid, as well as Cruz’s proposal to let insurers sell health plans that don’t meet ACA requirements as long as they also sell plans that do.

Republicans who voted against the bill: Mike Lee, Susan Collins, Bob Corker, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, Dean Heller, Jerry Moran, Lisa Murkowski, Tom Cotton.

WASHINGTON ― Hours after opening debate on a Republican health care bill, the Senate roundly rejected the first of a series of GOP proposals late Tuesday night: the Obamacare repeal and replacement plan that Republicans had been working on for months.

The Better Care Reconciliation Act went down, 43-57, with nine Republicans voting no: Susan Collins (Maine), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Mike Lee (Utah), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Rand Paul (Ky.)

No, because their epistemic filter is set so narrowly now that anything that might cast doubt on the God-Emperor is “fake news” and therefore can be safely ignored.

well, duhhhhhh John…the bill as it is today is just a blank fucking page.

And later the same day (damn is it still the same day? Seems like a month has passed since this morning)

The Senate rejected a key proposal repealing and replacing ObamaCare on Tuesday night, as senators start a days-long debate on healthcare.

Senators voted 43-57 on a procedural hurdle for the measure that included the GOP repeal and a replace bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act, as well as proposals from GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rob Portman (Ohio).

GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Bob Corker (Tenn.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Mike Lee (Utah), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Rand Paul (Ky.) voted against the repeal-replace proposal on the procedural hurdle. No Democrats voted for it.

thehill.com

And apparently, McCain voted for it (I thought he had left, but if the vote was 43-57, he must have been there.) So much for his “principled stance” (on anything.)

A certain person has apparently forgotten about what he said back in May about fascists and how they should kill themselves with guns because of efficiency.
Apparently mileage varies according to whatever is expedient for the moment to be all holier than thou when it comes right down to healthcare and HOW SOME OF OUR FAMILY MEMBERS WILL FUCKING DIE…but we should be all tolerant and not wish death against those who are legislating death against us.

sigh…

OK. I’m leaving now.

Work stress-Well either I bricked it or today was the day to die for a (redacted brand) firewall device at work. I can’t even connect to the At&T modem from my pc unless I go around the firewall. The very day after we (At&t and I) put in a separate Uverse connection for the ip phones. Just changed the phone related ethernet cables as required. Phones get one connection, everything else another. Hmm. Anyway just love being the IT guy / messenger of bad news.

Oh and annual reviews are August 1st. Crap I’m more alchemist than network guy, IT being a very “add on as needed” skill set for me. But when the boss needs IT I’m it. Not an IT expert, an IT victim. I learned everything I know about technology when something quit or went all wrong. That’s the diff right?

Ted Kennedy used his dying days to give people healthcare.

McCain, so far, is using his to take it away.

See the difference?

Otherwise, one might as well claim that we’re not allowed to say anything negative about trump because of all the right-wing hate directed at Obama.

Though the truth is that in this rare case, the (R) who had held the seat before is pretty moderate. There was only a slight difference in the candidates’ stances on what matters to me. But NH and the country as a whole needs more (D) in local offices to rebuild.

I think they’re legit, but you’re right about them being a fragment of a fragment. TQILA’s parent organization is IRPGF, which is itself a part of the International Freedom Brigade, a confederation of far-left revolutionary militias fighting in the Syrian Civil War and the war against ISIS.

Refresh comment, I tweaked the wording a touch to reflect that Ted Kennedy wasn’t so much “saving” the ACA as helping bring it about in the first place.

And the objections also remind me of the common trumpchump line durr hurr, we hated Obama like you hate trump so get over it libtard

The comeback is brilliantly simple:

“We hate trump because he is racist. You hated Obama because YOU are racist.”

I see it differently.

Today was a procedural vote. McCain returned to vote on the procedural. As a senator tends to do. He took that moment allowed to give a speech that touched on many things, most didn’t catch this one … Separation of powers.

McCain’s days are few, I think.

They diminished Kennedy, they diminish McCain.

I refuse to see this politically.

The beauty of our system IS THE DEBATE.

It is carrying on & it will carry on.

The threat is a weird power hungry fool. I trust the people of the senate & house.

The cancer-stricken Democratic senator Edward Kennedy made a dramatic return to Congress today, providing the boost needed to pass a bill securing healthcare coverage for senior citizens…

[He] was not expected to return to Washington until September.

But Kennedy made an unexpected appearance on Capitol Hill as Democrats prepared to vote on a plan that shores up Medicare, the country’s government-run programme for senior citizens’ healthcare.

Doctors participating in Medicare were hit with a reimbursement cut of more than 10% last week, jeopardising their ability to treat older patients. The bill passed by the Senate today would reverse that cut, while slicing controversial incentives created by George Bush for private insurance companies that participate in Medicare.

The Medicare bill passed the House of Representatives last month by an overwhelming margin despite Bush’s threatened veto, with Republicans deserting the president in droves.

The Senate, however, fell one vote short of passing the measure, sounding alarms in doctors’ offices across the country and setting off a political row between the medical lobby and reticent Republicans…

Kennedy did not attend the Senate’s first vote on the Medicare plan due to his illness. His sudden emergence today, surrounded by a phalanx of guards, was taken as a sign that Democrats needed his vote in order to pass the bill.
When Kennedy raised his thumb in the air to the clerk of the Senate, signalling his affirmative vote, spectators in the gallery burst into cheers - a rare violation of congressional rules that went unpunished today.

The GOPers in the house and senate have overwhelmingly enabled the power-hungry fool (e.g. his craptastic cabinet nominees). I trust them as far as I can throw ‘em.

Today was a procedural vote. McCain returned to vote on the procedural.

Did you miss the link originally posted by Decatur Deb? McCain voted YES to the craptastic bill with the Ted Cruz amendment.

Now, if the unimaginable happens and he votes against “skinny repeal” tomorrow, I’ll happily eat crow and my words…but not a moment sooner.
