This chaos is getting more dangerous. Civility and peace on the streets rely on a thin veneer of faith in the system. Matter of time before a far more serious mis step or provocation from a blood enemy like Al Qaeda or NK or who knows.

Indeed. The messes at DoE and DoEd are both messes of commission, where actions that are taken create the harm. At State, it a mess of Omission. Lots of people gone, with no replacements lined up. Tillerson isolating himself. Career folks left in limbo without the political nominees who have the power to make decisions.

State’s going to die of the dwindles. Then we’ll have a crisis, and we’ll wonder who’s in charge, and the answer will be “Nobody.”

Add in the Facebook Congress Rep yakking to Robert Reich and something is up.

That’s some article. Too bad I remember Flake being rather front and center about some negative and crazy things he said about Obama.

Even in his book - his BOOK (of which that was an excerpt) did he refer to Obama as Mr. Obama or President Obama? No. Just Obama. One would think that would be remedied in a printed volume.

Kelly:

“Make no mistake — we are a nation under attack.”

No, we’re not.

“We are under attack from criminals who think their greed justifies raping young girls at knifepoint, dealing poison to our youth, or killing just for fun.”

Crime rates have been declining for decades.

“We are under attack from people who hate us, hate our freedoms, hate our laws, hate our values, hate the way we simply live our lives.”

Since 9/11, approximately 94 people have been killed on US soil by jihadist terrorists — a bit more than the number of Americans killed every single day in gun violence.

“We are under attack from failed states, cyber-terrorists, vicious smugglers, and sadistic radicals.”

Cyber-terrorists have never killed an American citizen, no failed state threatens America and more Americans are killed by lightning strikes than sadistic radicals.

“And we are under attack every single day. The threats are relentless.”

……..

On Sunday Kelly continued the onslaught.

“We have tremendous threats, whether it’s drugs, people, potential terrorists coming up from the south,” he said

There’s pretty much no evidence that terrorists are using the southern border as a transit point for entering America.

We need to look at this both politically and realistically.

I’d like him gone now too, but it isn’t realistic.

Government stuff goes slow. Party stuff is to protect the party. Individual politicians wants to save their asses. It takes a lot of change and coordination to get all that together and to find a message they can all use to allow them to boot him.

We are at 7 months. I think it is moving in the right direction and faster than expected realistically.

Remember Watergate and that was a Democratic congress that took out Nixon forcing him to resign. This is majorly up to Republicans and it is going to be real tough for them. To see some actually saying what they are saying today is big in my eyes. It gives some cover for others to come out.

There have been characters introduced on GoT that have lasted longer than Scaramucci. Heck, Ed Sheeran was alive longer. Ned Stark was alive longer than the Mooch was in that position.

Anyone who thinks that this was organized or planned is deluding themselves (and yeah, I’ve seen that this was a way to get rid of Reince and clean house). No, the way to clean house is to clean house, not bring a guy in who says they’ll clean house, and then they are themselves sacked within days.

This mess will not end with the Mooch. Others will follow. I suspect Kelly wont last long either. It’s impossible for him to last when you’ve got Bannon, Miller, and Kushner all running their own shows so that they can push their disparate agendas - the sum total of which is to grind government to a halt.

We are seeing it with the State Department, and that’s a willing decision by Tillerson to completely screw US foreign policy for no reason except to claim that they’re cleaning out “deep state” bullshit.

The entire Trump admin can’t help but sabotage everything they touch. That’s who they have always been.

All the conspiracies and backstabbing negated all action. They were paralyzed by their batcrap insanity, and now there’s a few less people running around spewing their nonsensical ravings. The fact is that this will still be an admin that is reactionary and lacks any kind of coherent policy other than an intent and desire to break whatever Trump sets his sights on. Functioning government will be broken in serious and lasting ways. The GOP has already damaged Congress and comity was destroyed thanks to McConnell and his obstructionism preventing Obama nominee Merrick Garland from even getting a hearing, let alone confirmation.

This is where we’re at, and Trump’s pushing all chaos all the time.

The bigger problem is that his supporters think that this ultimately helps them.

It wont. It wont in the slightest. They will end up far worse off, but the GOP will time and again deflect attention from their actions to blame others.

We are seeing it with the State Department, and that’s a willing decision by Tillerson to completely screw US foreign policy for no reason except to claim that they’re cleaning out “deep state” bullshit.

The entire Trump admin can’t help but sabotage everything they touch. That’s who they have always been.

“We apologize again for the fault in the subtitles Administration. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked.”

I think what you’re remembering was that STAFF worked on it, and Trump was involved. That was bad enough, since it’s paid Federal employees working on a campaign-related issue in the White House.

But this also explains why Trump thought he was so clever to mention talking ‘adoption’ with Putin at the G20. He’s like the old Jon Lovitz character, the compulsive liar…

Fix the trains.

Not everyone needs to ride mass transit to get to work or travel around town. Better that they bike than drive the same routes. Some people bike to get to the nearest train, and that’s where investing in the trains is critical.

Cuomo and BDB are busy fighting with each other over who pays for funds that will go to help start to claw the system back to a state of good repair despite underfunding for decades.

Neither is doing nearly enough to wring every penny to do capital projects where the 7 line extension cost more per km more than any other subway project in the world other than the 2d Ave Subway, which cost more per km than any other project in the world. It wasn’t even close. NYC subway expansions are about 2x more per km than any other project, and there’s no good reason for any of it.

Paris and London expansions are far less costly and face the same kinds of underground issues. They’re doing it cheaper and faster. They get more done.

That’s the problem, and no one wants to address it.

Bikes will help, particularly with getting to outlying areas that are more than 1/4-1/2 mile from a station. You can have a multi-prong strategy to deal with commutes and biking is part of it. So too is getting rail and bus working.

The problem is that more than 3/4 of the subway stations aren’t ADA compliant, and they only need to brought into compliance if they undergo rehab that is more than a percentage of the cost. It would cost billions just to make them all compliant.

Moreover, the MTA is operating under a plan that allows Access a Ride bus service to cover for these deficiencies in the subway accessibility, and that’s a huge cost suck too. It would be cheaper to build ADA accessibility than continue the Access a Ride over a period of years.

It still is all about cost.

Less costly, and perhaps the quicker to implement is true bus rapid transit, with priority lanes, light priority, and pre-boarding. Community boards need to get on the program, and car parking needs to take a back seat to moving people.

President Eisenhower was in the end of his second term when I was born. (Fun fact: I am one of the relatively few Americans born under the 49-star flag.)

There has been no Republican president in my life that was elected either through violations of the Logan Act, corruption, or other chicanery. None.

Had Mr. Nixon not rodent-copulated the Vietnam peace talks under Johnson, my father would be alive. Mr. Johnson only found out three days before the election, and called it in a private phone call to a Republican “straight up treason.” Also, Watergate break-in during his second campaign.

Mr. Ford pardoned Nixon (and never would have been President had Nixon not been).

Mr. Reagan’s rodent copulation of release of the Iran hostages (the man elected President of Iran ran specifically on negotiating their release) right before the election, so he could win an election, directly resulting in Iran-Contra and the most people ever indicted or convicted in a Presidency.

Mr. GHW Bush was (in my opinion) aware of Iran-Contra as VP but dodged the bullet. In any case, he likely wouldn’t have been President without Reagan being elected. Also, throw in his illegal invasion of Panama.

GW Bush’s Supreme Court case that ended recount of the Florida election, overruling the Constitution’s rules that elections are controlled by states, followed by the invasion of Iraq, and pardoning Scooter Libby after he outed CIA agent Valerie Plame. Following the Supreme Court ruling, newspapers conducted a recount and determined that Al Gore indeed won the election.

Now this Dumpster fire of espionage enabled by the GOP with Donald Trump.

Yeah, there’s a reason I never once supported conservatism as it has manifested in my life, nor ever voted for a Republican.

Native Americans in South Dakota have been screwed by the USG for decades. They ignored the Treaty of Fort Laramie, which granted the Sioux control over the Black Hills.

Well, the moment gold and other minerals were found in the Black Hills, the treaty got promptly ignored.

Mount Rushmore was built atop sacred land to the Sioux. The Crazy Horse Memorial (which will be bigger than Mount Rushmore) was initiated as a response to it.

And the rest of his book will no doubt blame the democrats. It’s not a fair comparison, since the rapid transit systems are much newer than NYC’s, but the metros and buses in China, Hong Kong and Tokyo put New York’s to shame. I’m a native New Yorker, so don’t hate on me, but the subways there suck in comparison — noisy, dirty, and not especially well organized. The last time I rode the subway in New York was 20 years ago, and I expected vast improvements after two decades. The only thing changed was the tokens being replaced by a mag-strip card. It was like going back in time.
