Years of overt racism and rabid anti-Muslim bigotry were no problem, but Fox News draws the line at dick pics.

That made them look bad.

Yeah.

Racism, no problem. Anti-Muslim hate speech, explicitly encouraged. But if you do anything actually embarrassing, you’re out on your ass.

It’s sad to me that the first two AREN’T embarrassing.

They can sell all forms of bigotry, especially Trump type.

Bolling on Anthony Weiner: ‘He Is a Sick Human Being’

Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) pleaded guilty Friday in a Manhattan federal courtroom to sending explicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.

In the courtroom, a tearful Weiner read a statement: “I accept full responsibility for my conduct. I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse.”

The New York federal judge accepted Weiner’s admission to sending sexually explicit texts to a minor across state lines, and Weiner agreed to not appeal any sentence between 21 and 27 months in prison. He also must register as a sex offender.

Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, reportedly filed for divorce from Weiner on Friday, hours after the guilty plea.

“He is a sick human being,” Eric Bolling said on “The Fox News Specialists.” “To continue to do this time and time again, continue to get caught, saying he’s not going to do it again, gets caught again.”

Yeah.

Rupert Murdoch is trying to buy the rest of Sky broadcasting in the UK, and this is contingent on his company being declared fit and proper to own the company. Being in the newspapers for rampant sexual harassment isn’t helping. It’s not really going well.
NYT Link

Finding criminal conduct in Murdoch’s businesses is like finding criminal conduct in the Trump administration is like finding a needle in a needle factory. Of course they should laugh Murdoch out of chambers and tell him good luck buying the local Pennysaver shopping rag.

Kitten update… 7 weeks!

These kittens blow my mind. In about a week they went from tottering babies to actual cats (though still small and entirely without manners). Their physical and mental abilities started increasing exponentially from one day to the next. Could not keep up with them! Moved them from the bathroom, even at night about a week ago. Did my best to kitty-proof the bedroom (haha! right?) in hopes of keeping them in there for a while at least. Lasted about 24 hours before they were over the barrier. Had to just take a deep breath and let ‘em go, hoping for the best. They now have full run of the place with all of the fun and dangers that entails. They’re on and into every.thing. And shoot me, I’m starting to talk in LOLcat: “No! Cannot has!”

Princess Onyx. Quite the beauty, isn’t she? I’ve never been one to bling my pets but I MUST get her a rhinestone collar when she’s big enough. Then there’s her bratty brother, Storm…

Note the Mensa logo on his forehead. Yeah, he’s trouble.

Scary listening to Smerconish now. Guest Jeff Greenfield reminds us that Trump is reshaping the judiciary for decades to come. When he is finished, we will have judges throughout who are racists, pro-business, anti-labor, and anti-feminists. We will no longer be able to rely on judges to care for civil rights or first amendment rights or individual rights.

Police said the explosion was reported at about 5:05 a.m. at that Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, outside Minneapolis.

This reminds me of something my mom told me about her uncle who was a sharecropper in Selma, Alabama. We used to visit his and my aunt’s farm every summer, so I remember them. One year my great-uncle had planted crops on a plot of land he was permitted to use. He had planned to sell those crops from that plot to buy certain things for his kids, but when the white landowner showed up and saw the produce from my great-uncle’s plot, he confiscated most of that, too. It didn’t matter that he and my great-uncle had a prior agreement that the separate plot of land was for my great-uncle’s use. The guy just couldn’t permit my great-uncle to use the crops he’d raised on his own plot of land to get ahead in any way, so he took not only the crops my great-uncle had raised for him, he took most of the crops from my great-uncle’s plot. Greed, malice, and Jim Crow permitted him to do that and suffer no consequences.

Just curious but did Trump make it a habit of crashing wedding parties before he was elected? I’m thinking maybe so as another form of self-adulation.

Just a thought

That’s what they’re going with? You’re telling me that there is literally nothing the Republicans could have done to stop Trump? He just doesn’t want to admit the truth: They created him, they welcomed him, they secretly hoped he would do everything he said he would, and they’re only scared now because more people came up sane and rational than they expected.

“Just a thought”

The wedding he really wanted to crash but couldn’t was Chelsea Clinton’s. He tried several times to get an invitation and failed. I’ve thought for a while now that that rejection might have played, and is playing, a part in his attacks on HRC.

The same golf club used to advertise Trump appearances as a selling point in brochures.

“If he is on-site for your big day, he will likely stop in & congratulate the happy couple. He may take some photos with you but we ask you and your guests to be respectful of his time & privacy,” the discontinued brochure read, according to the New York Times.

I don’t recall Poland falling into line behind the Nazis because, dammit, that’s what the Polish do. I also don’t recall Poland using the invasion as an excuse to push through all the bullshit self-serving legislation that the Polish people would hate, were they informed of it. I also don’t recall Poland have a field of different-but-equally-awfully foreign invasions that they turned down in favor of Nazi Germany.

But the ironclad rule is: if something the Republicans did went wrong, then they didn’t actually do it.

Snowball did.

Maybe the GOP really couldn’t. Trump made clear what he was early in the campaign; he did not hide his admiration for Putin, his disdain for McCain, all his character flaws, yet the Republican base still went for him. I don’t think the party realized what was happening until it was too late. This may reflect what happens when there are too many people running for the office, and the supposed frontrunner — Jeb Bush - burns out quickly. There was no real successor that the party could coalesce around.

In the Democratic primary, Clinton had substantial support and was able to withstand the insurgent candidate. Other than Bernie, she had no real opposition.

re: #146 Hecuba’s daughter

I’m not buying it. The GOP knew. Maybe not all of them, but enough of them. They knew all about it and they let it happen because they knew a loose cannon was the only hope they had of knocking off the poised, professional, and surprisingly effective (“surprising” to them, because they hated her and only thought about her in terms of emails and Benghazi) Hillary Clinton. Now they’ve got their loose cannon, they’ve got the reins of democracy, but they can’t do jack shit with it because people are infuriated that Trump is a crapsack and a sellout.

My 13yo wants to be “cool” by knowing about classic stuff, so today we watched “Citizen Kane” together. I had never seen it either. We were both blown away by how descriptions of Kane as only interested in getting people to love him hit so close to the bone of current politics and Trump.

When my wife and I went to Poland in 2015, we travelled to Gdańsk. Amongst other things, we visited the Danzig Old Polish Post Office (which is still in use today). They have a museum there remembering the battle for the Post Office, where a number of postal officials, a few railroad workers, and some civilians held out against an SS division, a pocket battleship, and artillery.

re: #147 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

“…The GOP knew. Maybe not all of them, but enough of them….”

I view what happened in the GOP in 2016 as being strongly related to the desire of their rich donors and political leaders to attain power at any cost. These groups knew Trump was bad news for the party, but their desire for power and their cowardice in giving in to the worst qualities of the hardcore members of their base is what I think got them in the predicament they are in today. I also think another contributing factor has been their failure to stop the nonsense they have been seeing escalate in their party over the last 30 years. They know there’s no reason for the racism, homophobia, misogyny, Islamophobia, etc. They know it violates the Oath of Office they took, but they’re weak, which is the reason I think they’ve been slow to speak out against Trump’s unconstitutional BS and outrageous, un-hinged, unpresidential behavior. I doubt many of them really care about social issues that much to oppose them personally but support them because it is what the base has indicated to them that it wants. When I think of GOP pols and social issues, I always think of the way Rob Portman never saw an anti-LGBTQ bill he wouldn’t support, that is, until his own son told him he was gay.
