Report: Tech Billionaire Peter Thiel Says Trump Is “Incompetent,” May Be One-Term President

Losing his allies
Politics • Views: 29,979

According to Buzzfeed, one of Donald Trump’s staunchest allies in the tech sector is becoming disenchanted with the Orange Oligarch, telling friends there’s “a 50% chance this whole thing ends in disaster.”

I’d put the chance at considerably higher odds.

Donald Trump’s most prominent Silicon Valley supporter has distanced himself from the president in multiple private conversations, describing at different points this year an “incompetent” administration, and one that may well end in “disaster.”

Peter Thiel’s unguarded remarks have surprised associates, some of whom are still reeling from his full-throated endorsement of Trump at the Republican National Convention. And while the investor stands by the president in public — “I support President Trump in his ongoing fight,” he said in a statement to BuzzFeed News — his private doubts underscore the fragility of the president’s backing from even his most public allies. Thiel’s comments may sting in particular in the White House as they come amid a series of hasty and embarrassed departures from the Trump train, as conservative voices from the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page to the floor of the US Senate have begun to distance themselves from the administration.

Thiel’s views remain private — but various disparaging comments were recounted to BuzzFeed News by three separate sources, and others who subsequently confirmed those accounts. These people requested anonymity for fear of damaging personal relationships and possible retribution.

Here’s the thing. Let’s say Trump survives four years and runs again. And loses.

Will he accept defeat? Personally I doubt it, and assume he’ll be back to claiming massive voter fraud, with FAUX supporting him all the way, and will refuse to accept the results of the election.

Then what?

What are the odds that Trump rage-tweets about this?

I’d say slim - he doesn’t want to piss off his money guys. If he mentions it at all, he’ll probably call BuzzFeed ‘fake news.’

I never quite know what to make of these military fantasy types. Yes, any given one group is dangerous, but I don’t know if they’ll ever be of an existential threat to the government or the nation.

The real danger is what happens when a few start to turn towards active terrorism… something that has happened rarely so far.

Thiel is a filthy rich libertarian asshole who views having to pay his taxes as the only significant infringement of anyone’s liberty anywhere.

Like all such libertarians, he has conveniently blinded himself to the simple fact that the kind of wealth accumulation he has done can only be accomplished in a civilized society with a functioning government.

So if he and his cronies end up getting their ‘libertopia’, they will fall to the gutter just like everyone else will.

I remember, back in the Bush years, when companies tried to get around the “recruit Americans first” visa requirements by crafting a job order around the specific CV of the foreign tech worker they wanted to hire. Even if you had 15 of the 16 “required skills” for the job you got rejected.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima. During the Cold War the Soviets and their numerous shills and agents liked to point out that the US was the only country that had ever used nuclear weapons in anger, as though Stalin would not have gleefully nuked Berlin if he’d been given the chance.
Today, of course, the peace loving post-communist Russians and their even more numerous shills, reinforced by former enemies like the John Birch Society and the Libertarians, have picked up the same theme, .

Depends on what the Republican Party does: if they turn on Trump and get behind an alternative candidate - and manage to push him* though the RNC, then The Donald is - justifiably - toast ( I can’t recall the last time a national Party deliberately shunned a sitting President’s bid for a second term [Pierce in 1856??]). Oh, I can see a major fight in the works something along the lines of 1912 - though with Roosevelt’s and Taft’s positions reversed - and minus the sheer idiocy of Trump; but the results of that election led to a Democratic President. Hopefully, 2020 may have the same outcome…

Wonder how Sarah Huckeybooboo (or whatever flack they draft) will spin this question at the next press conference?

My guess is one of two three ways:

1. It isn’t really a “new” deal, just an update to an old deal dating back forever, so stop asking questions.

2. It’s the President’s personal business, so none of yours: so sit down, STFU* and stop asking questions.

3. Why are you asking questions about this non-issue and ignoring Hillary Clinton’s criminal email activities?

Apparently the over/under for Kelly sticking around of 6 weeks may be overstating the case.

Trump is the reason for all the chaos in the White House. He’s the reason for all the leaks. His underlings know this, and they continue leaking so as to implicate others so they can show their loyalty by throwing others under the bus.

No amount of Marine Corps discipline will change this when Trump refuses to be disciplined in his messaging either.

If the CoS can’t get a unified message and keep everyone on the same point (no matter what you think of that message), then the CoS fails, and the president’s agenda is screwed.

I know there’s some folks who want to make comparisons to the problems Clinton had in his first term with messaging or the like, but the reality is Trump doesn’t get policy and he’s undermining his messaging daily - the refusal to accept professional opinions that differ from his own are the reason he’s failing (and the reason his support remains high - his supporters are know-nothings who feed off this chaos as though it will somehow benefit them down the road).

I’m so old I remember when the GOP mocked the Purple Heart in 2004.

I’m old enough to have saved an image.

Even though I’ve never been in the military, my uncles fought in WW2 and my brothers served during the Vietnam War era and I know I was pissed off seeing a bunch of conservatives mocking the medal to try to put down John Kerry.

And that taught me something about modern Republicans. They can talk about how Red, White and Blue they are but they have no damn respect for our military as much as they want you to believe.

Anyone think Trump would have actually made it through boot camp in the 60s had he actually been drafted or enlisted?

Marines…no fucking way.

Army…doubtful.

Navy…iffy.

Air Force…still too much demand.

He has zero discipline. And he refuses to do what is asked of him, only he can demand of others.

I hope this embarrasses the big tough Marine General to the point he too quits within a month. No one else will want to take on the Chief of Staff position except some Trump lackey that will just let him roll his way.

This will be one more reason for the Republicans to give up. If he can’t be controlled on Twitter, he can’t be controlled at all.

In other news, AirBnB is banning Neo-Nazis, and I’m absolutely okay with it.

A horde of nationalists are headed to Charlottesville, Virginia, this weekend for the Unite the Right rally, where alt-right powerhouses Richard Spencer and Baked Alaska will speak in protest of the city’s decision to tear down a Confederate statue. Folks from all over the country are flying in for the event—but now it looks like some won’t have anywhere to stay.

Airbnb has reportedly banned a handful of attendees who had made bookings in the Charlottesville area for violating its terms of service, Gizmodo reports. At least two individuals have had their accounts irrevocably deleted by the company and claim they were booted for their far-right views.

While it’s unclear how Airbnb could screen its users for their political leanings, it does conduct background checks on both hosts and guests by digging through criminal records databases, sex offender registries, and OFAC lists. Still, the procedure wouldn’t necessarily be able to uncover what a prospective guest might be planning to do that weekend.

In any case, Airbnb explained in a statement to Gizmodo that it will remove users who don’t comply with the company’s “Community Commitment,” or nondiscrimination clause. The company established that agreement in November 2016 in an effort to dissuade hosts from discriminating against guests based on race, religion, age, or gender. Now the company says it’s using that clause to decide who can and can’t use the platform.

Is that like a delicacy only eaten on certain occasions (such that there’s some enjoyment to it), or a food that you consume specifically as part of tradition (as in, whether or not it tastes good)?

WTF? They probably move these mostly ancient missiles to and from their boats every day. This is a very common trick alarmist shills use to dupe a gullible and ignorant audience: Emphasize a routine, and therefore seldom reported, occurrence and count on the audience to conclude that it is something extraordinary and sinister. With this one they get a bonus, since the dupes will conflate any “missile” with an ICBM bearing down on the hinterland.

Here’s the thing. Let’s say Trump survives four years and runs again. And loses.

Will he accept defeat? Personally I doubt it, and assume he’ll be back to claiming massive voter fraud, with FAUX supporting him all the way, and will refuse to accept the results of the election.

Then what?

Then he’s ousted from office. He’s not a god or a supernatural being. He can throw a massive temper tantrum but just like everyone else, he’ll have to respect the vote. After what happened to Al Gore, where he won the election but had it snatched from him by SCOTUS, I have no patience for Trump and his antics if he loses an election fair and square. The way he won in November was pretty funky so he’s gotten away with enough dirt as it is.

My sister is cooking octopus for the first time somewhere in here. Apparently she has enough for multiple dishes, and so I’ve been diving in my cookbook collection—with not great success. I can find octopus in Spain, Italy, and Greece, and that’s it. I was thinking that other sides of the Mediterranean might have something to contribute, but no.

On the other hand, there’s an Italian recipe called “octopus in purgatory.” Which I now have to make.

Octopus was pretty common in our house growing up. You may want to look for portuguese recipes, although they may be similar to spanish recipes.

Korean People’s Navy

The NKN’s most capable weapons systems are their approximately 43 guided-missile patrol boats equipped with the SS-N-2A STYX antiship missile (or its Chinese version, the CSS-N-1 SCRUBBRUSH). Though their small size limits operations to coastal waters and calm seas, they have a capability to quickly respond to Combined Forces Command (CFC) shipping approaching the coast. The NKN has 12 OSA-1 guidedmissile patrol boats, 10 DPRK versions of the OSA-1 called the SOJU, and 19 other fast-attack missile craft; the OSA and SOJU are all equipped with four CSS-N-1 missile launchers. The missiles have a maximum range of 25 NM and carry radar or infrared homing seekers.

SS-N-2A Styx (P-15 Termit) is the missile that sank the Israeli destroyer Eilat 50 years ago this October.

tr*mp won the GOP primary because his message of “fuck those ****s over there” was by far the most appealing message to GOP primary voters. In the general election, too many people in critical states were not appalled by tr*mp’s message of “fuck those ****s over there”.

I can start that again. My father wanted to be able to do it, but he couldn’t. So he got my mother to try, and she said the stick twisted so hard in her hands she couldn’t hold it. She was more old-time religion, and hated the idea of doing it. He got her to do it a couple of times: to douse our well, which found water, and to find a stopped up old sewer line. She was so embarrassed when he would talk about it. I tried, and I can’t, so I can’t speak from my own experience, but if you had known my mother, she would never have lied about anything, let alone something she didn’t want to admit, than anything. Maybe there were psychological reasons for it; I don’t know. Ain’t gonna argue about it. Said my piece.

My favorite thing to do with tomatoes is cut them in half, salt and pepper them and broil em for about 10 minutes. Slap a slice of Gouda on em, broil another 3 minutes and NOM NOM NOM.

re: #266 Decatur Deb

Non-negotiables are my favorite thing, right after banzai charges and kamikaze raids.

I got to wondering about what the polling numbers say on abortion. This Pew Research report seems to be the most in depth that I can find. 57% say legal in all or most cases and 40% say illegal in all or most cases (to break it out further: 25% say legal in all cases, 33% say legal in most cases, 24% say illegal in most cases, and just 16% say illegal in all cases). But this was interesting, among Democrats it’s 75-25 in legal in all/most cases. So 1 in 4 Democrats are “pro-life” (depending on what “in most cases” means, I suppose).

The legal in all/most cases drops to 60% among independents, and 25% among Republicans. And the real differences come based on religion, for those of us who are unaffiliated, 80% say legal in all/most cases. White evangelicals have that number almost reversed 29-70. Catholics and Black Protestants are in the mid-50s legal, while white mainline Protestants are in the low 60s.

I’m firmly in the “legal in all cases” camp, and pretty much always have been. But I suspect a lot of people have a very big grey area on this issue. That might be because they see it, at least partially, as a moral question; or it might be because they don’t have a lot of information about how/why/when women get abortions.

I have to stop looking at that cartoon.

I am not a dog owner, but many of my friends are and I have one buddy that trains dogs and has had seven dogs I’ve been close too over the years. I know how tough it must be.

That cartoon is great and sad at the same time.

It brings a tear to my eye every time.

When our dog Cody died, a friend sent me this quote from Dean Koontz’ The Darkest Evening of the Year. I offer it up to anyone who loses a pet, in hopes it’ll bring some solace.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

He says ‘intelligence’ should be a litmus test. IMHO, anti-choice is stupid and anti-science.

Maybe it’s because of my time within the conservative/libertarian movement, but I can understand how well meaning people reach a different conclusion than I do from a political philosophy point of view. But I also think anti-choice is bad policy, but I also think we’d be better off if there was never the need for abortion (yes, I realize sometimes it is medically necessary). For that, though, we need easy access to contraception (including the morning after pill), and comprehensive sex education. And those are things that the most ardent pro-lifers/anti-choicers won’t go for.

Second, the English eat some really weird shit. Literally. I looked up the definition of ‘bloaters’, which is a lightly salted, lightly smoked, UNGUTTED herring, with a ‘gamier’ flavor than the more heavily smoked kippers, which also don’t contain fish shit.

If all the non-water things I drink in the course of a day were instead water, I’d probably be fairly close to a gallon. A cup or two of coffee (with some milk), a glass or two of (fat free) milk, a coke or two (maybe three) and/or a sugar free rockstar? That’s probably pretty close to a gallon. Definitely over when I factor in the water I do drink. I probably should work on my liquid balance some get more water and less of the other stuff?

Well, let’s total it all up:
2x 8 oz = 16
2x 12 oz = 24
3 x 12 oz = 36

That’s 76 oz. A gallon is 128 oz. So, you’re more than halfway there, but nor really close to a gallon.

Abortion polling is a minefield. I personally am among those Democrats who think that the best candidate is the best candidate, and if that candidate is pro-life, then you’ll have to live with that in a red state. That’s why my state, unique in the Deep South, has a Democratic governor. The last thing Dems need is to have yet another left-wing irreconcilable group on their hands when they haven’t dealt with the last one yet.

We have reports that Mueller’s got grand juries going in DC. There might be additional grand juries in the Rocket Docket in EDVA.

But those are federal grand juries, as opposed to a state grand jury that AG Schneiderman would be pursuing on state criminal charges. They’re independent of each other. This isn’t a case where if one grand jury doesn’t bring charges the other will pick up the slack. That’s not how any of this works.

Every time I visit Back East, I always go to the market and get a pound, usually produced by a local butcher, and that’s breakfast one day - fried to crispy on the outside, still soft on the inside……

I remember him, his family and his goon squad all saying: “When Trump hits back, he hits back harder.”

So, that must be the best he has.

I wonder if those same folks realize he has shown he is not as tough as he wants to come off…in fact, not tough at all.

Uh WUT? Mark Cuban is wrong. The uranium, by law, can’t leave the country. All Russia does is operate the mine.

Yup.

All he can “hit back” with are grade school insults. Sad! (Not actually a bad thing since he controls the nuke arsenal)

I’m glad someone with a profile as high as Cuban’s is shining a little light on the absurdity of the “Hillary sold our uranium” story.

I hear she sold it to finance the terrorists who attacked Benghazi.

It’s my drinking that I’m worried about. Yes, that nasty invective I posted the other night? I was drunk. The era of Fuckface Von Clownstick drives one to drink, in my case, more than I should, probably.
