Breaking: Trump Issues Unhinged Threat to N. Korea: “Fire and Fury Like the World Has Never Seen”

Politics • Views: 32,234

Our so-called president is raving like a madman while on vacation at his New Jersey golf resort, responding to the news that North Korea may have missile-ready nuclear weapons with a truly unhinged threat.

His hard core right wing fans will love this, of course.

Transcript:

North Korea best not make and more threats to the United States. They will be met with the fire and the fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said they will be met with the fire and fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before. Thank you.

The “thank you” is a nice touch after that crazy rant, don’t you think?

UPDATE at 8/8/17 1:30:57 pm by Charles Johnson

Video shows that Trump was in a very defensive posture when he made this statement, sitting with his arms crossed:

After the majority of life is extinguished… THAT’S when the charred remains of the failed GOP leadership will consider invoking the 25th amendment.

Meanwhile the GOP is crafting a tax cut for themselves and the elite as they undermine the ACA and undo every protection of life and limb ever written. Let us see what Kabuki theatre the “concerned” Republicans come up with. Let’s listen for it………

The statement about opioids should be given as much dissection. Because it’s falling back to the position that once you have the problem, it’s your fault. Align this with the rejection of the best treatment options by Price and the general escalation of the War on Drugs…and there’s a pretty good body in indicators that no help is coming.

Are you speaking of MHD drive (magnetohydrodynamic)? It was the propulsion system of the fictional Red October in the Tom Clancy novel, which Clancy extrapolated from some defense research.

It’s never gone into production, AFAIK, because it’s not practical (you need temps near absolute zero for the superconducting magnets) and in fact not completely silent, as Clancy’s sonar guy discovered.

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA—Since I am presently located in proximity to god alone knows how many nuclear missiles, I am forced to take very seriously the latest evidence that the president* of the United States has left whatever hinges he ever had far, far behind.

This is flat fcking crazy. From ABC News:

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening - beyond a normal statement - and as I said they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which the world has never seen before.”

This is the way Saddam Hussein used to talk, or the way some 12-year old gamer crows after reaching Level 900 of Nuclear Zombies In Heat. To hear the president* of the United States spout off like this has the potential to have half the world hiding in the basement. For me, I’m going to walk carefully around here for a couple of days. You can never tell what might pop out of the ground.

We will be lucky to live through this.

Once again Trump shows absolutely no understanding of the issue(s) involved.

It’s an empty platitude to claim that if kids are told to stay away from opioids that will do the trick, when the gateway to being addicted to opioids is when they’re prescribed by a doctor for pain management.

It takes two seconds to research opioid deaths by age group, and lo and behold 0-24 has the lowest number of ODs, followed by 25-34 with the highest number of ODs. Then the numbers remain fairly consistent for the next two age cohorts before dropping off some for the 55 and over set.

As a percentage of ODs, under age 25 makes up 10% of ODs, 25-34 makes up 26%, followed by 23%, 23%, and 19%. It’s not kids who are at greatest risk here.

I’m seriously considering that the emphasis on “young people” isn’t a mistake, but a tell.

As in, they’re not going to deal with the actual opioid crisis, but they’re going to increase scrutiny and penalties for young people. Stuff like zero tolerance, school monitoring and random searches.

This would dovetail with the larger theme of the statement: “solving” drugs by creating a larger, harsher, (and more lax) enforcement structure (that coincidentally punches down on minorities and non-citizens).

I’m reading the obit in Rolling Stone -

He dropped out of school when he was 14 and moved to Wyoming with an uncle who was a musician, playing gigs together at rural bars. He soon moved to Los Angeles and by 1962 had solidified a spot in the Wrecking Crew, a group of session pros. In 1963 alone, he appeared on 586 cuts and countless more throughout the decade, including the Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man,” Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas,” Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried” and the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.”

Like the ignorant hordes who support him, Trump seems to be ignoring South Korea entirely. They should be taking the lead here and Trump should be taking his cues from them.
One thing that especially irks me, a product of both far left and right right propaganda, is the assumption that South Korea is helpless without massive US support. I have heard the US force in South Korea described as a “speedbump” as though the NK forces can just waltz down the Uijongbu corridor any time they feel like it. This is far from the truth. South Korea has one of the world’s best trained and best equipped military establishments in the world. They have been preparing for every eventuality for over 60 years. The only thing the US really needs to provide is the nuclear deterrent, and that should be done quietly, as in fact it always has been.
Even that may be in doubt now, since Trump’s antics may inspire the South Koreans to go it alone and develop their own nuclear deterrent, something that is well within their capability.

Reading about Trump’s latest “opioid epidemic” plan almost made me physically ill today: First, it brought back memories of the “anti-drug” campaigns we had to sit through in high school back in the 1960’s: little mention of it as a “health” issue whatsoever: blame mainly shifted onto sinister Negroes and Mexicans pushing their evil wares on unsuspecting “ordinary” (i.e. white) kids; and any cautions consisted mainly of painting a jail cell as the final destination, and a ruined life as the inevitable reward.

Reading the Admin press release gave me the sinking feeling that the latest approach to the latest drug epidemic is going to be - fundamentally - “Reefer Madness” updated for the 21st Century: potential users fobbed off with hoked-up scare-stories or “just say no” homilies; budgets to fight the “epidemic” will probably end up diverted mainly to law-enforcement efforts - especially Trump’s border obsessions, and as a consequence, “opioids” will become a new excuse to harass minorities; Big Pharma, of course, will escape even the remotest censure (and will probably salve public criticism by making sizable donations to campaigns to correct the effects of abuses of their own products) - and one group of people (legitimate users) will probably have to needlessly suffer:

Our allies can’t count on us. The US “nuclear umbrella,” providing deterrence for all of them, is in tatters. Now controlled by a crazy person, it has become a hazard in and of itself. The anti-nuclear movement will howl at the Moon over it, but some of these countries will end up acquiring nuclear weapons of their own that they can have under their own control.

Attacks on Guam would be a logical part of NK war planning. This scenario has always been assumed by informed observers. The only thing new here is the NK propaganda mill’s willingness to discuss it in public. Guam has probably been a target since NK first acquired sea-going submarines in the 1950s. In those days, it would have taken the form of mine laying and suicide commando attacks along the coast. Today it would be a bit different.

I’m not sure that would happen in that case. I doubt China is going to enter a nuclear war on NKs behalf, as striking us would result in us striking them directly in retaliation. Of course, they might feel they have no choice given the fallout killing Chinese people directly across the NK border.

If we’re the aggressors, NK itself probably won’t be firing back. I’m assuming we’d use a boomer positioned off the coast to launch the strike. They’d have little to no time to react.

Well, I guess a “revolution” would work for the Bros if much of the nation is reduced to a nuclear wasteland. Though I’m not sure what good free college or free health care would be to a people too busy trying to find potable water or non-irradiated food.

Most of us who paid attention in history class know that what prevented the Cuban Missile Crisis from turning into WWIII was a cool-headed president who kept a short leash on his generals while keeping open lines of diplomacy even when it appeared the other side was totally irrational.

Today, we have General Ripper in the White House.

Seeing as how we’ll all be dead by a nuclear holocaust at the end of the week, all I can think about is how I’ll never have experienced romance… or have been a parent… or achieved my full potential.

Just how I’ll quickly slip into an endless void of black nothingness.

The GOP must be absolutely besides themselves right now. Years of going before the TV cameras to talk about how “weak” Obama was for setting a red line and then having it crossed, and the only thing they can do with Trump is play him up as “strong” for flexing his flabby arms.

Yeah, SEAL Team Six is going to magically sneak in undetected, kill every man in North Korea with the knowledge to build nuclear weapons, destroy the existing ones and all data about them, and then (for the coup de grâce) totally dismantle the nation’s nuclear reactors and make off with the radioactive materials in a single stealthy raid.

Does anyone really think the GOP leadership cares about this? I highly doubt it. Watch as they’ll sit on their hands while doing excellent concern trolling.

I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.
