What the fuck do they want from Spain for God’s sake?

Spain’s participation in Iraq was what was cited for the 11 March 2004 attacks in Madrid, so what the fuck is the issue these nuts have with Spain when they aren’t flirting with far-right populism??

Spain seems to be a logical target for nutjobs that take their dreams of a new Islamic Caliphate much too seriously because it was the high water mark for the Umayyad Caliphate in Europe.

What the fuck do they want from Spain for God’s sake?

Well, Spain and the Muslims do have a bit of history… I remember in a history class in university, when the professor asked about 1492 and all the American kids say “Columbus!”. But I blurt out “La Reconquista~”

Anyhow, I was a bit surprised by the Barcelona attack because when I was living there, the story I often heard was there was a de facto truce keeping the city relatively safe. Yes, there was a huge Muslim militant population there (living or passing through), but they did not target Barcelona in exchange for being left mostly alone. Will be interesting to see what the crackdown turns up.

Yes, although the ‘management’ at RedState hasn’t been enthusiastic about Trump, just happy that he’s trying to get conservative judges and policies, and there are still a surprising number of pro-Trump commenters. Nazis are apparently not far enough to put some people off.

I know lots of people like D_F but without the cognitive skills, which really makes him a case for professionals. He defends the indefensible, says he sees the lies, can tell the truth from deceit, and then just like the GOP as a whole he jumps back in line and marches off with them. I said it before, a lot of folks wanted to see a different D_F. The one that doesn’t exist.

He’s chosen to let the teaching of “respect your parents” equal “do whatever they tell you know matter how badly it abuses the real social teachings of Jesus.” He probably is sincere in his regret but until his abusive father has shuffle of on the road to Gehenna thus ending the emotional and psychological abuse, he won’t be able to change. He is among those for whom I light candles to Mother Mary.

I do not think DF was ever officially banned, and I for one would welcome him back, even as a member of the loyal opposition, but change has to come from within, first he needs to admit that his current political lifestyle isn’t doing him any good and that it has to stop.

I’m not nearly as forgiving, simply because this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this - and those times when called out on untruths he very plaintively said that he didn’t care that damnable facts were laid bare regarding the hatred that occupies the soul of the political right. Party over country is his mantra. The fact that he voted for Trump (even after repeatedly saying that he would never do it) is not in the least bit surprising to me, and if by some miracle survives until 2020, he’ll pull the “R” lever again no matter who is on the ticket - including Trump.

An IT person was indicted on bank fraud and some other charges.

Right wingers think this will somehow prove that the DNC leaks were an inside job, but this is what the charges are:

The charges don’t have a direct relationship to their work in congressional offices, but the criminal charges add to the political heat directed toward their congressional employers, especially Wasserman Schultz.

Awan, 37, and Alvi, 33, were charged with:

— Conspiracy to commit bank fraud, false statements on a loan or credit application and unlawful monetary transactions.

— Bank fraud.

— Making false statements on a loan or credit application.

— Engaging in unlawful monetary transactions.

Here’s what happened, according to the indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C.:

The couple conspired to obtain home equity lines of credit on rental properties that weren’t actually residences they lived in, the indictment alleges. They obtained the home equity lines of credit in the amounts of $165,000 and $120,000 from the Congressional Federal Credit Union, which has a policy of not extending such lines of credit when the property securing the loans is rental property.

The right wingers think there’s some grand conspiracy that ties everything together in a neat bow.

Why is the only thing the media and the pundits report with great detail from overseas is tragedy? Like to scare world populations as well as their own?

The farther away the event (except Europe), the higher the death count has to be to make news in the US.

That’s sort of like believing Trump is going to change this time for real, because he really means it and has seen the light now.

Assumes something not supported by the evidence at hand.

Sorry, but at this point my sympathy is for those being hurt by the actions he has taken. I can pity him (and do, sometimes) but I otherwise don’t waste my time on him.

did you read LGF for the 2 years I did before joining? (I didn’t check)

There are people here I LOVE (& who I would share any personal info with) who had thoughts at the time that would make them people I would never associate with.

Evolution and forgiveness.

Hell, they hated my thoughts at one time.

I have always hated the pile on & still do.

He evolved from saying he wouldn’t vote for Ted Cruz and then voting for Ted Cruz to saying he wouldn’t vote for Trump and then voting for Trump.

An impressive evolution, that.

We’re not all always going to be one big happy family. Families don’t always get along. Sometimes people stop speaking to family members because the family members are abusive and causing them harm.

Charles Johnson  Aug 17, 2017 • 6:27:59pm

I’d like to think DF has had a change of heart, but he SWORE numerous times on this site that he’d never vote for someone like Donald Trump, and now he’s admitting he DID.

I called him out on those pledges many times. This is why he hasn’t come back to LGF, because he knows he has some dues to pay here. And he’s afraid to pay them.

I’ll give anyone a break if they’re sincere. Hell, I’ve needed a break myself for fucking up, more than once in my life. I know how it feels. But you have to own up and take responsibility, or it’s on you.

That they say it’s meant to provoke speculation about the meaning, that “it’s just an okay sign” and they tricked people—well, no, the simple fact that they’re doing a meta-use of the gesture means they’ve given it a meaning beyond OK like normal sane fucking people use the OK sign.

In context, it’s the “we’re Nazi-wannaabe Trump limpet fucksticks doing a hand sign that we agreed to do.” Semiotics aren’t fixed and are contextual. It’s now the “Nazi-wannabe Trump-limpet fuckstick photo thing” when they do it because of repetition.

Yes, the way they splay their fingers while making the sign is a dead giveaway that this is very deliberate. It’s not at all natural to do it this way.

It’s quite deliberate, and a form of IFF. Their ‘joke’ is that the sign has no specific meaning—no content.

They seem not to realize that the “normies” are actually smarter than them.

Gestures can gain meaning through agreement (such as hand signals or sign language)…but lots of gestures develop a meaning because of who does them and when. Hence how the same gesture can have different implications at different times—waving, for example.

They’re celebrating their inability to think abstractly.

It’s a running theme, from the national level trolls to the ones that squatted here:
they are so certain they’re intelligent they’re actually inoculated against proof and weighing arguments.

This is my fifth Dupuytren’s surgery. The surgeon told my wife while I was recovering that it would be unlikely my left hand could stand another such surgery. I am not a candidate for the enzyme injections that can dissolve the contractures, so if they come back I will likely lose the use of my left hand. (Presumably they can do at least one more surgery on my right hand if needed.

Not all people can grasp the existence of all three —most only the first. That which they can perceive thru their senses.

Makes communication (especially in soundbites and headlines) very difficult. There is little “meeting of the minds.” IMHO.

What is a simple definition of fascism?

Fascism is a form of government which is a type of one-party dictatorship. Fascists are against democracy. They work for a totalitarian one-party state. … Such a state is led by a strong leader—such as a dictator and a martial government..

Fascism - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
simple.wikipedia.org

and:

The only official definition of Fascism comes from Benito Mussolini, the founder of fascism, in which he outlines three principles of a fascist philosophy.
1.”Everything in the state”. The Government is supreme and the country is all-encompasing, and all within it must conform to the ruling body, often a dictator.
2.”Nothing outside the state”. The country must grow and the implied goal of any fascist nation is to rule the world, and have every human submit to the government.
3.”Nothing against the state”. Any type of questioning the government is not to be tolerated. If you do not see things our way, you are wrong. If you do not agree with the government, you cannot be allowed to live and taint the minds of the rest of the good citizens.

The use of militarism was implied only as a means to accomplish one of the three above principles, mainly to keep the people and rest of the world in line.

Fascist countries are known for their harmony and lack of internal strife. There are no conflicting parties or elections in fascist countries.

Removing Confederate Statues Isn’t Sanitizing History—It’s Fumigating History

Particularly his take on the confederate statues in western states-

As best I can tell, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Bless-Your-Heart wing of white-supremacist backlash, performed Johnny Appleseed duty with these monuments and statues any place to which Southern folks fled after they started a war they couldn’t finish, a war that wrecked their parasitic local economies. Many of them went west, to work the mines, or work the railroads, and get rich, or, at least, less poor. This, apparently, is the reason the Daughters put up these abominations in places like Montana, so that the expatriate Confederates could take comfort in the fact that the cause of white supremacy was alive everywhere in the country.

Fascism is an authoritarian Nationalist political ideology that exalts nation (and often race) above the individual, and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. It often claims to be concerned with notions of cultural decline or decadence, and seeks to achieve a national rebirth by suppressing the interests of the individual, and instead promoting cults of unity, energy and purity.

Fascism usually involves some degree of some or all of the following elements:
* Nationalism (based on the cultural, racial and/or religious attributes of a region).
* Totalitarianism (state regulation of nearly every aspect of public and private sectors).
* Statism (state intervention in personal, social or economic matters).
* Patriotism (positive and supportive attitudes to a “fatherland”).
* Autocracy (political power in the hands of a single self-appointed ruler).
* Militarism (maintaining of a strong military capability and being prepared to use it
aggressively to defend or promote national interests).
* Corporatism (encouragement of unelected bodies which exert control over the social
and economic life of their respective areas).
* Populism (direct appeals to the masses, usually by a charismatic leader).
* Collectivism (stress on human interdependence rather than on the importance of
separate individuals).

It usually also expresses opposition to the following:
* Liberalism (policies of minimal interference by government, both politically and
economically)
* Communism (specifically Marxism, but generally any communal social organization).
* Democracy (majority rule and competitive elections with freedom of speech, freedom
of the press and some degree of rule of law).
* Individualism (stress on human independence and the importance of individual self-
reliance and liberty) philosophybasics.com

Southern isn’t a country. We had a war over that.

And this “southerner” is here to tell you, Corey, that your monuments are shit.

Friends from before the Great Schism. Wonder if any of those posters have changed much.

Some of the people mentioned as former members in this thread; I wonder how I might have gotten along with them (or no).

I only met those who remained after Huffington Post reported on Mr. Johnson’s post here saying he wasn’t going through the bushes and over the cliff with the other wingnuts. (I admit I’d not heard of this place before that.)

Feast your eyes on the family tree of King Charles the second of Spain, though “tree” might be doing it an honor it does not deserve.

But really check out what wonders a pure bloodline can do kiddies!

Inbreeding to retain wealth and power

I recall reading somewhere that Carlos II of Spain was so inbred that his genetic diversity was actually less than if his parents had been brother and sister.

I don’t know enough about genetics to know if that’s true or not; but if anybody would prove it, it would be Carlos II. Though some of the dudes from Vanguard America really come close…..

Not until either the GOP’s paymasters have had enough, or their voters have.

In the meantime, the Democratic Party really ought to be approaching businesses. Not to offer tax cuts, but to point out that our party doesn’t want to marginalise half their customers. (That, and remind them that business generally does better under Democratic governance.)

Businesses don’t really care about all this social derp from the right wing. They care about stable governance.

Nope. As long as she had slaves, she could afford fine gowns. Might be the core of the problem.
