Arizona Republic Publishes Scathing Editorial on Trump Arpaio Pardon: “A Sign of Pure Contempt for Every American”

“Institutional racism is his goal”
Politics • Views: 42,897

Arizona’s largest newspaper, The Arizona Republic, is mincing no words in today’s editorial about Donald Trump’s appalling pardon of convicted criminal and inveterate racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio, writing: “Institutional racism is clearly Trump’s goal.”

Donald Trump’s pardon elevates Arpaio once again to the pantheon of those who see institutional racism as something that made America great.

Many will characterize it as a slap to the Latino community – and it is.

The vast majority of Latinos in Arizona are not undocumented, yet they all fell under heightened scrutiny as Arpaio honed his image.

The pardon was a slap to those who worked through the judicial system to make Arpaio accountable, too. It robbed the people hurt by his policies of justice – even before a judge could mete out a sentence.

The pardon was a sign of pure contempt for every American who believes in justice, human dignity and the rule of law.

Two things…one on topic, one commenting on something Sergey posted.

On topic. Saw some video on TV and it reminded me of a little get together that had many us wondering WTF last year when it went down. Even after all of what has happened since, I still wonder what the hell was up with the whole thinking. (See YouTube below).

In the last thread Sergey made a comment about the ‘whiners’ here at LGF that thought Charles (The Good Charles Johnson) was wrong to pay attention to Chuck Johnson (The Scummy Charles Johnson) and is now proven correct.

Charles was certainly correct to do what he did.

In this upside-down political world, being an asshole that gets people paying attention to him and trying to stop him may also have made him a useful tool for more devious work.

Chucky seems to have zero filters and will do anything. He is a perfect guy to use on the internet. Same with some of these other alt-right types. Give them some money, feed them some bullshit you want spread to the scum they hang with and stand back and watch.

Notoriety seems to be a drug on the ‘net. As we saw with the damn election. Thinking someone is so much an asshole with no redeeming qualities will be enough for people to judge their character and reject them doesn’t hold up. Instead, it seems to bring the scum out to dance in the shit and celebrate it.

I know I thought that about The Rage Furby. Also thought it of Trump. Trump won and Chucky is a part of the fucked up administration. The alt-right is in the news.

The mistake I made in my thinking is giving too much credit to fellow Americans for being decent, clear-thinking people that will always do the right thing. Those good people still exist. But really, who knew there was so many idiots?

Okay. Here’s the problem.

People are trying to rationalize irrationality. Assigning game theory to a 71-year-old who is frequently showing signs of decaying mental health if not outright mental illness. Thinking that a one-dimensional narcissistic racist is playing any dimension of chess when in fact he has a losing poker hand at the chess table.

Forget how deeply unpopular this pardon will be, and it will. Trump won’t care. And neither will anyone in the GOP rank-and-file.

So…Trump pardoned a pervert peeper…

Sheriff Joe Arpaio turned off one of his “jail cams” that showed female inmates using a toilet, a view that could be accessed via the Internet.

The decision followed complaints from inmate rights groups and the state attorney general.

Donna Hamm, director of Middle Ground, an inmate-rights group in Tempe, said Thursday that the camera exploited the women and was linked to pornographic sites on the Internet. She asked the Justice Department to investigate for civil rights violations.

Exactly. I just posted this on FB:

People are gaming out all kinds of ‘signals’ that Trump is trying to give with the Arpaio pardon. They’re forgetting the most important thing - Trump. He doesn’t think in terms of right and wrong, or even legal/illegal. He thinks in terms of “What can I get away with?” Arpaio said nice things about him, and Trump’s racist base likes him, and he could get away with it.

Period.

Sure, it’s a signal that he cares nothing for the rule of law, but who didn’t already know that?

I am thinking you can take any video and make up a sound track with some creative multi-tracking and EQ work to sound like a crowd chanting “George Soros, where’s my money?”

Or, was this a group of Antifa joking about Soros and someone caught it and is taking it serious?

What do you think? I am looking for this to get put down as pants on fire bullshit.

However, it also leads to the second video where OAN “news” makes it a thing, and others making it a thing at forums, etc. Crazy times.

Blind Frog Belly White  Aug 26, 2017 • 2:27:16pm

It’s been quite the week for the dogs here at Chez FBW. Rango started limping off his left front leg last Monday, and by Tuesday was REALLY limping. Didn’t even want to go out and bark at the yappy little snack dog next door. Didn’t bother us to take him for a walk in the evening.

So, we took him to the Vet on Wednesday. The Vet feels his leg up and down, doesn’t feel any swelling, and Rango doesn’t flinch, till the Vet pinches his humerus. Then he gives the Greyhound Scream Of Death*, so the Vet has him x-rayed, and mentions the possibility of a tumor.

My mind rockets into Anxiety Overdrive, because Greyhounds, like other large breeds, are more susceptible to Osteosarcoma, which is aggressive and nearly always presents Too Late.

On top of this, Zeena (who had gone along for a pedicure) had lost a good bit of weight, and in my hyper anxious state, I was afraid this signaled The Beginning Of The End, what with her being almost 12.

Well, long story short,

which is a relief. Possibly calicified ligament in the OTHER shoulder. And the limp has gotten much better! Took him for a walk today, and he has a HINT of favoring that leg.

And Zeena? Well, after discussing feeding with Mrs. FBW and The Younger Boy, I learned that Mrs. FBW has been feeding Zeena canned food in the mornings, since Z tends to be less interested in plain dry food then. And Mrs. FBW didn’t realize that Z should be getting a WHOLE CAN, if she’s not getting dry. And Z is still the chowhound she’s always been, so I think we’ll be able to get her weight back up a bit, just by feeding her what she’s supposed to get. Plus a bit more for a while.

Whew! I was imagining A House With No Dogs. Not really a home.

*GSOD - that heartwrenching “YIFE!” Greyhounds seem to do over the most minor owwies. Rango is a master of the GSOD. Interestingly, when he actually tore a bit of skin on his flank, he didn’t complain at all.

I used to post a lot of Pages. Don’t know how many, because I’m having a problem with cookies (that’s never happened before!) and [Found it: 2,633] all I know for sure is that I posted 54 Pages with a Joe Arpaio tag [I was not the only one, and some are without the ‘Joe’]. So, yeah, I know Joe, and to know him is to hate him.

Here’s one:

Joe Arpaio Lawyers: Discriminating Against Spanish-Speakers Doesn’t Violate Civil Rights

I was so good at subtitles:

[insert comment about how remarkably awful Joe Arpaio is here]

Got a good subtitle out of the comments:

Arpaio himself belongs in prison. That can’t be said often enough.

For all too brief of a time, it looked like Arpaio would actually go to prison. I’m still holding out hope, because I suspect those who prosecuted him had many cases from which to select, took their best one, succeeded, and had it snatched from their grip. Now on to the second best. There will be so many pardons, Trump is likely to fall short by one, due to some kind of distraction, like his own prosecution.

May they share a cell.

It’s a sweet-and-sour custard-type pie, an old Depression-era recipe. Sugar and boiling water to make a simple syrup, thickened with some flour and a couple of tablespoons of butter, tartness added with apple cider vinegar, baked in a pie crust at 400 degrees for half an hour.

Sure do remember Dad hated A1 and he sure loved HP sauce. He picked up that love of HP when he worked at the Charleston Navy Yards during the war. British officers were so impressed with his quick repair work they gave him a bottle. Dad put a dab of HP on a burger and he was hooked!

Haven’t used HP Sauce here at home (haven’t tried to find it here locally in Nashville, though I’m sure someone carries it), though I did taste some whilst dining at Eat My Pasty (best damn fish and fries/chips I’ve ever had, bar none; even the cole slaw was fantastic) while in PCB back in June (and I’ll be back down there in about three weeks); it seems like A1 but better, with a bit of a kick.

Update from Houston, where we are about to be underwater. 2 inches last hour, 4 more expected in my area in the next hour.

The area slightly west of me, near the Brazos River, just got hit with a mandatory evacuation. River is expected to crest at 55 feet. Average this year is maybe 20. Streets in and out of our neighborhood are closed now. Small tornados touching down around us as well, lots of them. If anyone is watching radar, we are in the red band to the west of Houston.

My family is fine. We’re keeping an eye on the sky. It will be raining sideways and gusting hard, then suddenly stop for a minute or so. The “stop” is when it’s eerie.

It is interesting that in the same year Margaret was born in the USSR Revmir Pryadchenko, who graduated from the Mathematics and Mechanics Faculty of Leningrad State University, got a job at the Center for Deep Space Communication, where she engaged in not only direct official duties for receiving telemetry and registration “papers “but went further in the analysis of the received information. She played an important role in the early history of space exploration. Eventually became head of the department for processing telemetry data. Unfortunately a series of failures in the Soviet space program, and then stagnation touched not only the Soviet space program, but also the fate of the participants, which was not as favorable as Margaret. But this is another story, which is likely to soon disappear with the last witnesses and participants of the early space exploration.

I early on latched onto Louise Mensch and her ilk in my fever-brained hope that Trump could be quickly dispatched, only to see the light after a few months (sigh). Now I’m seeing that “liking” Rick Wilson or David Frum because they too see how fucked up things are is foolhardy, something obvious to most here, I’d imagine.

Wilson, at least, doesn’t shy away from the fact that he is a conservative—with Trump or without it’s lower taxes, 2A, and less regulation. Frum, too probably, though he isn’t as forthright these days. Good for them. They are principled. But they are still my adversaries in where I want the country to go.

Stalin was a crazed murderous dictator who was as bad as or maybe worse than Hitler, but the truth is that Russia was driving Germany into the pit before the first American platoon arrived in Europe. That’s what bothers me so much about our typical war movies showing how we beat the Krauts.

The Russian Winter won that war, really. Hitler’s best armies lay frozen before the gates of Moscow, on the shores of Lake Ladoga, and in the streets of Stalingrad. The American/British/Free French coalition really proved its worth as a distraction to prevent the Nazis from moving the rest of their forces eastward, which would have only delayed the inevitable.

And to the original point, Stalin did recognize that his fuckups put his army in grave danger of getting completely roflstomped in Eastern Europe, and he also recognized that his peace with Hitler was tenuous at best. The fact that they were able to survive long enough to turn it around is testament to that.

Just got off the phone with my bro-in-law, who lives a bit SE of Houston.

His wife is travelling at the moment. She was on a flight from Tokyo to Moscow when a traveller got extremely airsick. A flight attendant asked if there was a doctor on the plane, and the two women travelling with her pointed at her. (They are doctors as well.)

She helped him out. When the plane landed in Moscow, the cabin gave her a standing ovation and all bowed to her. The captain walked her through Russian customs.

According to my bro-in-law, he expects her to be insufferable for about a month when she gets home to Texas. (::

Police: Burglar held at gunpoint by homeowner after eating rack of ribs at Onalaska home he broke into

A Westby man was charged Friday with burglary after he allegedly entered an Onalaska home, ate a rack of ribs and found himself on the wrong end of a gun.

According to a criminal complaint, a woman woke up early Friday when she heard someone open the bedroom door of her home on Hanson Court. She saw a shadowy figure in the doorway and yelled for her husband to wake up and grab the gun.

The intruder, identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Fish, began running through the house as the owner retrieved an unloaded rifle. Fish ran out a sliding door but stopped on the patio when the woman cocked the gun. According to a police report, Fish begged them to let him go, but the residents instructed him to empty his pockets and lie down with his hands behind his head while they called police.

They must immediately pass the bill introduced by Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware and Republican Senator Tillis of North Carolina that would shore up the independence of the special prosecutor, and they must pass it with veto-proof majorities.”

I picked up my love of HP in the Navy in the Med. My wife never heard of it when we married, but we always have it around the house now (she hates HP).

I grew up with five black brothers, and none of them spent time in prison for committing any crime. I’m in my 60s, and what these tools don’t know is that I have never lived in a ghetto. Being black does not equal growing up in and/or living in a ghetto. It seems to me that these persons are somehow watching too many old episodes of “Good Times.” My family was nothing like that portrayed by the actors in that sitcom. I actually hated “Good Times” because it was heavy on black stereotypes. I didn’t know a single black family while I was growing up, including my own, in which siblings stood around and launched comedic potshots at each other. My parents would have blistered our butts for doing something like that. Except for the time between my birth and the age of five, my parents built and owned both of our suburban homes. Both homes are still in the family.

“Black” sitcoms are mostly pretty disgusting, sort of latter-day Stepinfetchit as far as I can see, with a few shining exceptions, but they’re nothing compared with some of the so-called “reality” shows on WE and other channels, crap aimed almost entirely at making black people look like stereotypical trashy N_s. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I click the remote elsewhere whenever this garbage comes on.

“of course christianity never preaches that it is superior to any other religion”

I’ve been a Christian for over 50 years, and based on my observations and analysis of what some of today’s “c”hristians say and do, they lack the moral standing to make judgments about any other religion, person, or group of persons. They lost their right to claim any superior moral standing when they decided to align themselves with the GOP and its sleazy, lying, hypocritical, money-grabbing, immoral, manipulative pols who would hang Jesus from the highest tree if he were able to return to earth and try telling them they’re wrong in any way. When these fake Christians open their mouths, everybody should just point at them, mock them, and laugh at them. They should not be listened to but ridiculed at every opportunity.

Golly, that was a fun hour and a half. (waves to jaunte and blugrl)

I was in that weather band as well (59 so@beltway). Dayum! Had the kittens in their carrier (“I no care if you no like. Go to sleep!”) preparing to scramble for tornado shelter. Stressed me right the fuck out.

A little while after the deluge (4-5”/hr) FINALLY stopped a neighbor knocked on my door. When I opened it, a fattie was thrust in my face. Oh yes. Now would be a fine time for that indulgence. I fixed us both a deserved rum and coke as well and we took our dogs walking along what used to be a bayou and overflow ditch but now is a lovely, rippling lake. We watched the incredible light show just to our east where that still active band scootched. The night music is amazing! All the night bugs, frogs, and critters are singing their hearts out. It was a very welcome “chill, it’s cool now” message. Or maybe that was the weed and rum. Appreciated either way.
