Trump Says He Witnessed “Horror and Devastation” First Hand. He Lied Again.

More lies from the Narcissist in Chief
Politics • Views: 37,904

This may not be the worst lie ever told by our so-called president, but it demonstrates once again his sociopathic propensity for grandiose boasting and exploitation of every situation for his own ego.

Yesterday morning, the Trump-thing emitted yet another Twitter blurt:

Almost immediately, reporters who were on the scene with Trump in Texas responded, to point out that in fact, Trump was nowhere near the actual “horror and devastation,” and couldn’t have witnessed it “first hand” at all.

The Washington Post reports that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders sprang to the Trump-thing’s defense and backed up his lie. Because of course she did.

A reporter asked White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders about this later Wednesday, and her answer was … something:

He met with a number of state and local officials who are eating, sleeping, breathing the Harvey disaster. He talked extensively with the governor, who certainly is right in the midst of every bit of this, as well as the mayors from several of the local towns that were hit hardest. And detailed briefing information throughout the day yesterday talking to a lot of the people on the ground. That certainly is a firsthand account.

No, it’s not. That’s a *second*hand account — the very definition of one, in fact.

Then, to further reinforce the absurdity and egregiousness of Trump’s lie, he (or someone on his staff) posted a photo to Instagram with the same “first hand” quote — showing Trump sitting in a room with Texas Gov. Abbott, looking at a radar map.

Instagram

After witnessing first hand the horror & devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, my heart goes out even more so to the great people of Texas!

Sarah Sanders needs to keep this phrase ready to go at all times, “The President inadvertently misspoke.” It works better than “Black is now White” when dealing with those who are Not Of The Body.

Right or left hand, I’m sure that makes a difference in the four remaining brain cells he has.

Reminds me the intro of George Carlin’s ‘11 O’Clock Report’:

“In Baltimore, it’s 6:42! Time for the 11 O’Clock Report!”

I wrote a short story today that I already cleaned up a bit. Enjoy your nightmare fuel.

RAGNAROK’S BEST, MOST FABULOUS, VERY FABULOUS STORY

He slumped in the overstuffed chair, the confusion and fatigue of the last two days filling his mind with intermittent static and causing him to occasionally nod off. As he opened his eyes and looked around the windowless concrete walls and the intense men and women straining their tear-stained eyes at monitors and dejectedly whispering, he decided he was a little bored and reached into his pocket to out his phone. After he happily noted that there were at least 4 bars of wifi in this place, he stroked the little blue button with the white bird on it, and waited…

…and waited…

Finally, a message appeared on the screen that the server could not be found, and he had a flash of memory. “Oh, that”, he thought, as a nameless orderly pushed a cold glass of Coca Cola and ice into his tiny hand with barely disguised contempt, splashing him in the process. The Secret Service agent standing at his side stopped crying long enough to frown at the orderly briefly and shake his head from side to side in the mildest rebuke.

Beyond that interaction, no one in the room seemed to care to look at him. They performed their tasks almost as automatons, albeit dejected and suicidal automatons. If he had been capable of empathy, he would have recognized the signs that several of them would be consigning themselves to eternity alone in their rooms after their designated watches were complete; they wouldn’t have much to do after that, anyhow. That nagging sensation which always seemed to be lurking around the corner was really eating at him now - the loneliness was a wolf which couldn’t be held at bay, and that always made him cranky. “Hmph”, he said to himself as he grabbed the TV remote out of the cupholder of the chair. “Losers. That internet was supposed to keep working all the time, it was supposed to be built for stuff like this”. He stabbed the button on the remote, but saw nothing but static. No Doocey, no Hannity, not even that hateful dyke Maddow or that jerk Scarborough, even though they were all on, babbling like losers about him just a few days ago.

“John”, The Great Man shouted. “What the hell is going on out there now?” His chief of staff was disheveled, red-eyed, tieless, shirtsleeves rolled up, and he shook his head at an air force general before slowly making his way over. “Jesus, sir”, the chief said in sotto voce. “You need to get out of that suit and tie - you’ve been wearing it for 2 straight days now. And you might try bathing - this facility has good water processing, and you smell ripe. I know your hair is an issue for you, and nobody is around to do it - put on a MAGA hat, it isn’t like we don’t have crates of them”. The Great Man grunted “fine, John, but I still want a report”. “Get up and walk this way, and I’ll let air force brief you”, was the sullen reply.

As he shuffled over to the table surrounded by generals and admirals, Air Force looked at the others and rolled his eyes.

“Sir”, the blue suited general said. “Preliminary analysis on the damage in Tehran, Bandar Abbas, Isfahan, Shiraz, Pyongyang, Nampo, Sariwan and Wonsan hadn’t even begun when things went haywire as a result of your attack. Our initial strikes alone probably resulted in at least two million deaths and an equal number wounded.” The Great Man fiddled with the end of his red tie, stained as it was by the giant plane having been buffered by blasts and spilling his meal over his front (was it KFC mashed potatoes and gravy? Who could remember?), then saying “the time for a bunch of weak talk was over. I wanted finality”. An admiral (The Great Man never could figure out the difference between Coast Guard guys and Navy guys) muttered something while looking down at his shoe and picked a crumb of a sandwich off the planning table.

Air Force sighed. “Finality. You got that, sir. Losses in Seoul are probably about even with what our models showed - maybe three million. The generalized war on the Korean peninsula would have probably killed ten million before the widening of the conflict. The launches on Japan were expected as we warned you; we were surprised that the Kyoto bomb worked while the other four were fizzles. We thought they were doing better.”

The Great Man picked up a new red hat that somebody had put on the table for him - but he could see that it had been defaced by a sharpie marker with the word “asshole” appearing below MAGA. “But why did the Chinese…”, he started to say, and Air Force anticipated. “Could be that they decided we weren’t going to exercise that much power in their sphere of influence ever again. They made sure that the 7th is out of commission, along with Pearl, Long Beach, Yokohama, San Diego, Guam, you name it. And once those popped, Russia decided to do their thing, drawing in Europe. Pakistan is at it in support of the generalized campaign on Israel, Israel has popped about a dozen Arab cities, but is going to fall, not that there is much left to get.”

The Great Man nodded along with this, but started a bit as he heard a technician sob “mom” as she reviewed a tracking radar. Must be some other city. What was it that Stalin said about omelets? Anyway, girl needs to toughen up. Nice ass, though.

“My family, what about them, John. Did any get out?”, The Great Man asked the chief.
“Sir, we did not tell you during all the confusion yesterday as you didn’t ask, but the First Lady…she…she did not get to Andrews fast enough, nor did Barron. We tried to get to the other two out in Kalorama, but once it was apparent that the conflict was destined to widen as, I’ll remind you, Mr. Mattis warned about before you relieved him for refusing your order, a mob dragged them out of their home, and we did not arrive in time to stop them from doing what they did. About all we managed to do was pick you up at your club in New Jersey. The Speaker and the Pro Tem were stalled in Washington, and Vice President Pence may have gotten caught in the Texas bombs. We can’t locate him and presume him to be dead. As far as the federal government is concerned, you are it. There are probably a few governors around still, but we have no decent contact with the various national guard units at the moment, and there is little that we can do to support them, nor they us. We think deliberate offensive actions have concluded among our primary antagonists, so we now have to assess our options and coordinate for recovery.”

“Well, are we winning? Really taking it to them? What is the plan now?”, The Great Man asked, giving his best executive glare at the men around the table. Each looked at the other in turn, and ignoring him, looked away and went back to their table to work, ignoring his rising protestations, consigning him to his state.

It costs the same to bus 40 kids in one bus as 50 kids in one bus. The number of illegal kids cannot be greater than 25% the local population, so unless the district had to buy a crapload of new buses to handle the extra kids, your friend is full of it.

Joe “Asshole” Walsh seems to be one of those people that fires his mouth off before his head has even got a chance to think about what he is saying. Otherwise known as a hot-head. I bet that is in his divorce case somewhere. I bet it also can be confirmed by anyone that ever worked with/for him.

Conservatives like Walsh who want to criticize other people for being “politically correct” or “snowflakes” when they object to cartoons or other put downs don’t have much room to stand on when they object to something that offends them.

I had three bicycles from the local charter school that were due at the end of the month. They just went out the door. Yesterday’s birdy did slow me down a bit, but I was cutting it close.

I did my formerly twice-a-week jog for the first time in a month. I was going to say I’m the only one who gets flashbacks when they see finches flying around, but Hitchcock’s The Birds isn’t that old yet.

Aren’t the usual reasons LE officials like Clarke resign -

1) some sort of scandal or malfeasance, or

2) to seek/be appointed to other/higher office

I’m guessing (unfortunately) it’s #2.

(An appropriate term for Sheriff Clarke: I’m just wondering why this blustering buffoon was able to hang on as long as he has)

Vinegaroons look like big, fat scorpions, but they’re not. The two from yesterday were the biggest, fattest ones I’ve seen because I usually see them dead and dried out. When they went for the box I put by them, I thought, ‘Awww, just like kitties.’ But I stayed as far from them as I could when I took the box out and dumped them in the gutter.

So, I wonder who it was that Eric Prince was pushing as “viceroy” of his mercenary army.

Who were you picturing as a viceroy? A civilian? A military person?

… I was thinking about a guy who had a military and intelligence background in his early career, who spent a long time in business, was very successful at it, and who’s also done something very senior in the intelligence community…

Do you know many people like that?

I know one.

Who?

I’ll just say that I floated a name to Steve [Bannon]. He liked it. I took him in and he met him.

You took the viceroy candidate to the White House?

Yeah, but again, it’s a moot point.

Did he meet the president?

No, but the president knows him and his wife pretty well. And we’ll have to leave it at that

NPR had a little filler after a report on the flooding with taped responses to a question about what they were doing to help after the flooding. There were a couple of “I sent money” or “I live near by and contributed food and diapers.” Then there was a woman who said she had prayed for them. I figured she follow that up with actual help, but no, her final thought was the she wanted to encourage everyone to pray for the people who needed help. SMH.

Sweet Baby Jesus, I am tired.

The citizens of Houston are slowly digging out from under our mud. But the minute someone told me there’s another storm out there, the language that came out of my mouth was probably unacceptable to pretty much anyone with any kind of dignity or class. Oh well.

We don’t want Trump here, and enough of us are back on the roads that I’m sure we could get quite a protest going. We all need to release some stress anyway, may as well yell at the Yam as a bonding exercise.

Seriously, we’re assessing the damage, now that the water has gone down. The final economic figures will be staggering. And our kids are out of school for at least another week, so the therapy bills will be high too.

You gotta laugh, people.

I’m 6’, 225#. Ain’t many that are bigger.

Drafting smaller riders does still work, BTW. I once did a ride with a woman about 5’2”, maybe 110 soaking wet. We swapped pulls most of the ride, but then she tried to pull on a 2 mile long constant downgrade. After 1/4 mile of constantly braking to keep from hitting her back wheel, I said, “Here! Let me!” and pulled the rest of the way downhill.

She’d been working hard to do 20 mph, whereas I can coast there at 25.

RE: Lt. Abbott’s firing.

I’ve lived in GA my whole life as a POC, and I can say that Abbott probably would never have been fired if the female had been a POC. If she had been a POC, his defenders would have come out of the woodwork and attacked the female, and the media here would have been publishing articles about the personal details of her life. I saw this article in my local paper and clicked on comments. There were none. If she’d been a POC, there would have been many comments, and most of them would have been agreeing with Abbott and disparaging the female. GA might be in the Bible belt, and a majority of citizens in the state might claim to be Christian, but their attitudes, words, and actions don’t show it. What they do show are tribalism and an attempt to maintain the status quo wherein POC know and stay in their place.

And then my brother-in-law on the other side of the Cities had an encounter with a black bear in his driveway.

My country (yes, the entire country) has about the population density of the greater LA bay area, I think. We had one or two wolves set up in the most remote part of the country, just over the border - those oversized puppies were national news for days.
I think I’m happier this way. Lots happier.

(and sorry to WW, yeah I would think twice about scaring a partner with some of the nasty buggers you guys get to deal with.)

This. Is. Infuriating.

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said on Thursday it plans to spend $10 million on advertising for the upcoming Obamacare open enrollment period that starts in November, a sharp cut from the $100 million spent last year.

The agency also said it will cut funding for so-called navigators, who help people enroll in Obamacare health insurance plans, by 41 percent to $36.8 million.

Could be one of two things.
1. People going into panic mode and topping off to make sure they have fuel.
or (and I really hope this isn’t the case)
2. Scumbags are buying gas (in quantities) to take down to Houston to sell at exorbitant prices. Want 5 gallons of gas? That will be $100.00 (or more dollars) and we keep the jug.

#1 I can understand with the refineries shut down. #2 just makes me sick.

SO is this even going to make economic sense? It’s 240 road miles from Dallas to Houston: even given decent mileage of today’s cars, that still going to be 18-20 gallons of gas to make a round-trip; so one would have to have a vehicle with 1) a huge gas tank; and 2) decent-enough gas-mileage to make a gasoline-profiteering trip worthwhile.

Just did some figuring: My SUV has a 26-gal gas tank, and gets about 24mpg on the road, average: assuming I start (from Dallas) with a full tank, I’d have to use 10 gallons just to get to Houston: and either sell no more than 6 gallons there, or sell more and hope I find someplace to refuel on my way home. And refuel at higher-than-normal prices due to shutdowns. I guess if you have nothing better to do….

You pack a bunch of large cans of gas into a truck, drive them the 240 miles, and sell the gas at gouge profit. You can do the same thing with bags of ice and a refrigerated truck. I first witnessed this during Andrew (1992).

It’s a function of energy in the system - water and air temps are going to make this one scary storm to track. There have been some storms that have formed and gained intensity that far out, but this storm looks to have the steering winds that could take it towards Florida before hooking to the NE.

The intensity projections are fixing at a Cat 4 storm 120 hours out (5 days).

That means reaching peak intensity just about the time it would be making landfall according to these same models.

We have gas here. Some of the first trucks that came through were gas trucks, and we were always fine on gas in many parts of Houston. I filled up today. So if someone thinks they’re going to make some bucks on gouging consumers in Houston, they will be disappointed.

Fact is, our infrastructure held up really well. Power, water, gas, food. The police have kept things calm. This simply is not a Katrina situation. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an incredibly bad situation here, but it’s not Walking Dead by any means.

The water temperatures are what’s driving this - and they’re all in the red. Everything is 29 degrees C. That’s 84.2F.

And gee, what happens when SSTs are over 84º? A lot more water evaporates! And heat and water vapor in a low pressure system lacking vertical or horizontal shear equals???

Yes! You got it! What in the Pacific is called a Super Typhoon and what will soon be referred to (as they have been so previously rare) a romping, stomping mayhem of a hurricane!

Climate Storms. Twenty-five foot storm surges. 180 mph winds at landfall. Skyscraper killers.

Drumpf may not believe in climate change, but USF&G, Swiss Re, and other reinsurers absolutely do. They are not re-insuring paper floated for coastal development in wide swaths of the world.

When the risk/ratio assessment guys won’t take the risk, there’s a damn good reason for it. Bad business.

Gas in St. Paul is up 20 cents a gallon from the beginning of the week. I was going to fill up then but I was only about three or four gallons down. I suppose that there’s a ‘holiday weekend’ factor in the price too.

Gas is up $.25 a gallon in my rural neck of the woods.
