If this or the next hurricane brings flooding to Pennsylvania, Pat Toomey will certainly stay true to his political beliefs and vote no on any relief funding to Pennsylvania. Because.

Massive damage across the Virgin Islands.

Rush Limbaugh, who previously stated that Irma was a hoax, has decided to bug out of his Florida home. The fucker should have been required to stick around to prove it wasn’t a hoax. Too bad.

He wont be held to account for his bullshit, nor will the GOP voted against the Harvey aid package in the Senate.

The GOP wont be held accountable for the fact that the weather satellites that currently help with hurricane forecasting (and other climate research) were scrapped because the GOP didn’t want to pay to store them.

Everywhere you look, the GOP just does more and more awful stuff.

A three-judge 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel also ruled that grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins of legal U.S. residents should be exempted from President Donald Trump’s order, which banned travelers from six Muslim-majority countries. …”

Man shot washing windows at Milwaukee Journal Sentinel downtown office

A 30-year-old man was shot Thursday while washing windows at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel downtown office building.

Initial investigation indicates the shooting suspect was inside a passing vehicle and was trying to shoot at another vehicle, according to Milwaukee police.

The window washer and the Journal Sentinel building were not targeted and the investigation is ongoing, police said…

The man was wounded on his left side and was moaning in pain and being treated by security right after the shooting. Paramedics and police arrived about 1:40 p.m.

The GOP is 100% garbage as far as I can tell, and has been that way for many years. Tax cuts for the rich is their only real policy position, and fueling and exploiting white resentment is the main way they try to get the tax cuts done, so their total worthlessness is to be expected.

You know though, Clinton’s struggles really have waken me up to the sexism in the world. I always did know about it on the right. I’m old enough to remember Limbaugh calling feminists, “feminazis” and the usual right wing insults that feminists are just ugly women who hate men. But the way Clinton was treated woke me to the fact that we have sexism on the left too. And honestly that sexism bothers me more not only because it’s my own side but because they’re like totally unaware of it. Like with right wing sexists, they know they’re being bigots. Lefty sexists are totally oblivious to it.

My take is that there are some old-time Republicans who are just in denial. They can’t process what has happened since Reagan the religious right took over the party. They really are not going to change, because frankly it is very hard for older people to change.

This is why as humans it is so important to try and remain flexible in one’s thoughts. Unless one is continually seeking out new material to read and to listen, as we get older all we do is look to reify what we already believe.

Then they can damn well stop voting.

But they won’t.

And by the definition of democracy, we can’t stop them.

This well lamented weakness in democracy as a model of government is not going to go away.

Generations do eventually die off. But it is slow. We’re still getting Confederate believers long after the last Confederate soldier died.

We’ve evolved to learn when young and protect when old. That’s how family groups of hominids work.

The invention of civilization is far outside our basic nature and all the more so modernism.

People who think this or that person is “evil” because they angered one’s god/gods are just doing what humans have always done.

What you and me have to do is continually interact with those we know, to convince them of the errors of their ways. I do that a little bit on Facebook, but frankly a lot of my “friends” over there are a bit too fragile for me to go whole hog on them.

This is why as humans it is so important to try and remain flexible in one’s thoughts. Unless one is continually seeking out new material to read and to listen, as we get older all we do is look to reify what we already believe.

Case in point= Moi.

I was a rabid left winger. I will give huge credit to LGF. Took me to an ‘intellectual left’

Reading different takes, thinking about it.

Imagine MSNBC having a liberal pundit attacking Abbott over his trans bathroom policy when Harvey hit though to be fair that’s sort of relevant given that Abbott did call a special session for the bathrooms and did not for the hurricane.

That had better be a commercial next year from his opponent.

Shouldn’t that be illegal?

Yes, it’s completely illegal. That would be the definition of insider trading.

What gets me is the way they are handling it. There’s a website where they explain the situation and offer consumers a chance to supposedly check to see if their info was compromised. I did that, and got a short message saying I could enroll in some kind of security app next week. No word if I’m among those 143 million accounts that got hacked.

My confidence in Equifax is not what you would say very high right now.

Saw tweets that said they hired a call center, but no docs provided yet on who was affected.

They are cutting & running.

I hope so. It should be. It shows where that shithesc’s priorities lie. And the fact he begged for federal money from the same government he wants to be able to secede from when things don’t go his way.

Yeah, they win elections.

They don’t even do that right - gerrymander, voting legislation to prevent minorities voting, russian assistance, 7 hour queues in parts of the country where dems might win

etc etc etc

They cheat to win.

One thing I would have liked to see the feds do with Harvey aid for Texas is make it contingent on Texas dipping into its own rainy day fund to a reasonable extent.

I doubt that would happen but anyhow, I really loathe Republican officials who vote against disaster releif when it hits blue states and regions but immediately beg for the money when their state gets hit. I saw Rubio was on CNN earlier. Rubio, the same coward that voted against Sandy relief. FWIW, I ahve no problem helping any state or region after a hurricane, tornado, or whatever but the Republicans who vote against releif when it’s not their state especially a blue state hit by disaster can kiss the hairiest part of my ass.

So many “older people” myself included, support the democrats. It is NOT so hard for anyone to change - they just don’t want to. There are way too many young people supporting the GOP - no empathy, no care - just me, my and mine.

If there weren’t real people hurting I’d like to tell all the Republicans who voted against Sandy help to go pounds the swirling sand. But there are people. Real, hurting, desperate people and I’m not a sociopath like every fucking republican is.
