Trump Can’t Help It: He’s Back to Claiming “Both Sides” Were Responsible for Violence in Charlottesville

The president of the US is not a well man
Politics • Views: 34,625

We’ve seen this pattern over and over with Donald Trump. He says something grossly offensive or blatantly racist and/or sexist, there’s a huge public outcry, then he insincerely walks it back and his people jump in front of the cameras and do damage control.

Then, a few days or weeks later, he’ll go right back and say the same damned thing again that got him in trouble. You can tell it just eats away at his gargantuan ego to admit to any sort of mistake or offense, and he just can’t help himself. He has to repeat the grotesque statement that offended everyone, because he can’t stand to lose that all-important sense of dominance.

And he’s doing it again. When it was reported he would sign a congressional resolution calling on him to denounce white supremacist groups, I knew right away this was going to provoke him into one of his tortured backflips, and sure enough, today he resurrected his claim that “both sides” were responsible for the violence in Charlottesville.

He can’t help himself. He’s ruled by his narcissism.

Trump was characterizing his side of a conversation on Wednesday with Senator Tim Scott, Republican of South Carolina, during which Mr. Scott, the Senate’s only black Republican, said he confronted the president on his claim that “both sides” were responsible for the violence that followed a torchlight protest against the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee.

“Especially in light of the advent of Antifa, if you look at what’s going on there, you know, you have some pretty bad dudes on the other side also,” Mr. Trump said, referring to the anti-fascist group that clashed with neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Mr. Trump has offered constantly shifting statements about Charlottesville, alternately condemning the hate groups and declaring a moral equivalence between them and the counter-protesters. On Thursday, speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Mr. Trump reverted to the unapologetic stance he took in a news conference last month at Trump Tower.

“Now because of what’s happened since then, with Antifa, you look at really what’s happened since Charlottesville — a lot of people are saying — in fact, a lot of people have actually written, ‘Gee, Trump might have point,” Mr. Trump said. “I said, ‘You’ve got some very bad people on the other side, which is true.’”

So the fascists, neo-nazis and white supremacists are on Trump’s side, not the other side, according to Trump. As if that wasn’t clear already.

Been going through a real headache with my Mac Pro desktop machine - it’s been freezing up at random intervals, and acting really sluggish on stuff that used to be very fast.

But I think I may have finally fixed it by resetting the System Memory Controller. You shut down and unplug the power for about a minute, and this resets the SMC. Restarted and so far it’s working much better. Whew, I was getting worried that it might be dying. I hope it doesn’t start running like molasses again.

Anyway, if you have a Mac and it starts acting sluggish and showing you the rotating beach ball of doom all the time, this is something you should try.

Interesting conversation with my Mom.

Talking about the people dying at the skilled nursing facility in Hollywood.

My Mom’s point = what if the patients had a DNR? It’s clipped to their beds ya know.

Point that their cause of death should have been prevented, but if they were dealing with a cardiac arrest or something else, what was the staff’s obligation?

Just a point I didn’t think of at all, of course me Mum did.

re: #31 Stanley Sea

The staff’s obligation is still to do no harm. By failing to provide a safe environment, the facility hastened the condition leading to the death of the patient.

But for the HVAC system failing and no backup was available, these patients would not have died.

But for the HVAC system failing and no backup was available, these patients would not have been in a condition where a DNR would be required.

To confirm those - the key will be autopsies to determine COD and whether heat was the proximate cause of the death.

thats like 15 miles from us.

irma was a cat 5 last week. beelining for broward/miami. that would have been devastating enough - a direct hit - just look at the keys

i was trying to get across to mrs dm (her first hurricane) that if you survive the initial catastrophic damage, it’s the after affects that can get you worse. no power say for a week means more or less no real food, no a/c in 90+ degrees, no hot water, etc—day and night—-. if the roads are blocked by downed power lines and/or trees, you’re not getting out either to resupply OR to run afterward. you’re on your own. those can be critical and dire circumstances all by themselves.

we did not mess around with irma

I have a feeling that nobody signs a DNR expecting what I think was malfeasance in the parts of these supposed caretakers. That’s like saying “ok, murder me.” If I die of natural causes that’s one thing. Someone helping me along is another. By doing nothing they helped. A lot.

To me that’s a little beside the point. The facilities management obligation is to maintain a safe place or go for evac. Generators enough to keep the place habitable. I have no idea about the staff, they may have cared a lot and lived a nightmare of dying patients despite the best they could do in the heat.

I’ve been battling over the “M” word with some guys. When they really slam Hillary, they really don’t think they are doing anything more than being critical as they would with any guy.

But the language used, the tone of that language and the difference in their own responses from HRC to even Trump belies them.

It always is defended and protected by others. So, it then becomes “just your opinion.”

What it sounds like (just a guess, who can tell with nuts?) is that she’s offended at having to hear the adhan in whatever neighborhood she’s in: hence the “imperialism” BS - though when it comes to Muslim stuff, a whole lot of people tend to just freak out on general principles. Personally, I’d be just as pissed living near a mosque that loudspeakered its call to prayer as I would living by a church that rang its bell/bells on a regular basis as well.

Hahahaha.

Damn, how many people knew he could be sold on something like a labeling?

What a mastermind of a politician! And I bet he sees himself just that way.

Schumer and Pelosi are picking his pockets and now it appears other democrats are onto the game.

McConnell has to be dying. Don’t hear too much from Mitch these days.

Or, that other guy. Rand…err…Ryan something???

Reality TV is usually so awful. This is a refreshing story

The boys over at Sparks Motors are hard at work heading down to Houston, Texas to provide flood relief and rescue efforts. As you may already know, Sparks Motors also has a TV Show called Diesel Brothers where they have gained a considerable amount of money. Rather than keeping their money and resources to themselves, David “Heavy D” Sparks and Dave “Diesel Dave” Kiley have selflessly offered up five of their own vehicles along with two tractor trailers worth of supplies to help the victims of Houston. Oh, they also got a helicopter to do air rescues.

Through the power of social media, the diesel brothers were able to get an insane amount of donations within 24 hours. In fact, they didn’t originally plan on taking two additional tractor trailers down with them, but they received so many donations that they knew it was necessary. As you can see in the videos and images below, their heavily modified vehicles are more than capable of traversing the nearly apocalyptic terrain that is Houston.

It is beautiful thing to see so many individuals lending a helping hand to those in Houston. With so much divide going on, these images and videos are a symbol of hope. That being said, I feel it would be wrong of me not to warn the Diesel Brothers and anyone else going to lend a hand of the possible dangers involved with rendering aid. If you are driving a lifting or heavy vehicle, be cautious of sink holes, sudden drops, and other debris hidden under the water. If you are operating watercraft, be careful of things that can puncture your hull or get caught in your propeller. Now that I got that out of the way, please lend as much help as you can give. If you are unable to head down to Texas, please click on the Red Cross link to donate.

Everyone knew even the best UFC fighter doesn’t have the boxing skills of a champion boxer, especially one of the best boxers of our lifetime.

DeBlasio went to the G-20 instead of the funeral which may not have been the best call. I really don’t know and I’d need some of our NY Lizards to weigh in on how he’s doing as Mayor too. But at one point Yasher tweeted that DeBlasio straight up hates the NYPD.

re: #160 goddamnedfrank

You’re an idiot. Ben is an observant jew who has been the target of anti-semitic hate.

this is a persistent and utterly stupid line of reasoning pervasive in wingnut lines of defense, for example, exonerating zimmerman’s attack as non racist because his mother is hispanic. the theory is of course that all “ethnics” are equally ethnic, and all “ethnics”, being in the non-“white” camp, must somehow regard all other “ethnics” as within their own group

the entire line of reasoning stinks of unspoken, ignorant, and probably unconscious, racist assumptions

the sad fact is that there is plenty of racism in every group. growing up in nyc, i regularly heard racist remarks about people in other ethnic categories from persons belonging to some group or other that would not be welcome at a kkk meeting. being jewish myself, i could easily tell you about casual racist remarks i’ve heard passed between my relatives

racism divides infinitely. if the entire population of the united states were composed of immigrants from great britain, i’m sure we’d grow up hearing about the unsavory habits of welshmen, or geordies, or some such nonsense

OT again: just got back from seeing Matthew Sweet. Great show. Bass player is an old friend, so we got to talk a bit afterwards. Guitarist Jason Victor was a revelation: he managed to encapsulate the work of Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd on the old songs while adding his own touches and completely owning newer work.

Also important is that Ben Shapiro is specifically engaging in a kind of showmanship that the hateful right laps up…going to a campus where he’ll be protested and then crying “victim.”

Whenever there’s a falling out on the far right, the players re-assemble the coalition by smearing shit on targets they have in common. No matter how bad the drama—even when it involves antisemitism—they cleave back together (and rake in that gullible, hateful cash) by kicking the same straw leftism.

Which is what Shapiro is doing.

re: #181 The Ghost of a Flea

This is why every round of “the right is about to fragment” should be viewed with considerable skepticism.

Drama is always resolved by declaring that “The Left” are worse than anything else, including open racists, et cetera.

Which is another bullshit aspect of ex-Breitbart types like Shapiro. At the end of the day, they’ll still vote in line with the crazies and support them.

And if/when someone completely flies off the handle such that their hateful craziness can’t be denied, they’ll just be “discovered” to be leftists.

re: #186 JordanRules

Kelly works there and is full of shit also too.

[Embedded content]

It is becoming quite apparent that John Kelly is currently president of the USA. He controls access to Trump, thereby controlling what Trump thinks, because Trump only acts on what the last person to talk to him says. FOX and Friends probably still has some access, and it’s obvious from the tweet history that Trump still watches some TV, but for all intents and purposes, John Kelly is mostly in control.

Quite apart from the quasi-banana republic/puppet state dynamic here, this is appalling for the specific reason that John Kelly is not an elected official, and is also quite obviously a heavily deluded wingnut. That he has more discipline than the pack of Nazis he has run out of the White House should not make anyone relax.

Sure, Trump may fire Kelly. But I don’t think that will happen anytime soon. Trump is first and foremost a coward, and he has always been cowed and in awe of bullies, especially military bullies. Eventually he will probably resent it enough to act out, and perhaps even get rid of Kelly, but he would only be able to do so once he gets some distance, because he is too afraid of confrontation, and with Kelly in his presence every day it will take him a long time to build up the courage to have someone else fire Kelly for him.

The entire rhetorical approach is to equate anyone who opposes fascism with antifa.

And to turn slogans like “Black Lives Matter” into “We wanna kill whitey!”

Because it is clear to DT supporters: white supremacism or white genocide. Choose your side.

Both sides were responsible. If antifa hadn’t shown up, there would have been little to no national coverage. When they decided to hold their “peaceful” counter-protest the rioting started & it became big news. (None of this explains or excuses the insane idiot who drove into the crowd. Or the white supremacists for that matter. They crave publicity because their movement would eventual shrivel up without it.)
