One of my favorite segments of Justice League from the 90’s was in an episode where Superman beats Darkseid. Superman throws him down off the pillar they were on and tells the people on Apokolips they are free. Instead of cheering, the pick up Darkseid and carry him to his abode. As he’s leaving, he tells Superman that he is their god.

From the previous thread:

re: #163 HappyWarrior

It’s amusing isn’t it? Tucker’s for regulating witchcraft but not many real things.

The argument is against a Wiccan. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t see any difference between their magic and the Catholic idea of transubstantiation, but that’s just me.

What Tucker Carlson and FOX News is implying indirectly is Wicca should be “regulated,” that is, outlawed.

Get away with that (outlawing Wicca), you could outlaw any religion that doesn’t to the conservative party’s line.

Jack Kirby may have reveled in cheese, but just underneath the surface he could jab at some very dark things. The New Gods were basically Indo-European, almost explicitly Norse-redux…but Apocalyps and Darkseid’s minions were products of a modern demonology that addressed the vices and flaws of human beings of a technological, informational age.

Like if Dante were populating his nine circles post-WW2.

This is not the first time right-wingers have gone after Wicca either. I wrote what wound up being a full-page column in the Jacksonville Times-Union op-ed page once, when then Senator Jesse Helms had attached an amendment to an agricultural bill attempting to ban Wicca.

I argued that the idea was repugnant as it stood against the constitutional right to freedom of religion—I got calls at my house for several days afterwards from priests and pastors around Jacksonville at my house thanking me as an atheist for standing up for freedom of religion.

When I was a Navy recruiter, an order came down from the recruiting command to remove “Wicca” (as part of the very long list of religions that could be put on an enlistment application) from the station recruiting manuals. (We were issued change pages for that.) The order was reversed a couple days later.

Conservatives have been going after Wicca for a long time, primarily because it is a tiny religion in the USA, and if they are successful with diminishing the rights of Wiccans or outlawing the religion, they have effectively neutered the I Amendment case for freedom of religion.

At that point, no faith (or “no faith”) would be safe. We would indeed be a Christian Nation (tm), and they’ll tell you exactly what form of Christianity you’ll follow, or else.

I seem to remember such debate about questions on tests, forms, etc, being culturally biased, framed to be unfamiliar and about things some people wouldn’t know about in their lives all up through the 80s etc. Maybe later. I can’t seem to remember the last time there were issues actually in the public debate.

But it has been a trick played for a long time. And part is just as you say, it can be scored any way they want. But if anything it sure was an I.D.

Katy Tur had to deal with John Barrasso talking over her because he didn’t want to answer her question about preexisting conditions.

And then read John Kennedy of Louisiana justify Congress presenting states from setting up single payer:

On Tuesday, asked by The Intercept about the status of his legislation, he said that the bill’s cosponsors, Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., told him that the measure already bans single payer, but that he was welcome to offer his amendment either way.

“I don’t think states should have the authority to take money from the American taxpayer and set up a single-payer system,” he said. “Now some people think that that’s inconsistent with the idea of flexibility. But that’s what the United States Congress is for. I very much believe in flexibility. And I know the governors want flexibility. But it’s our job to make sure that that money is properly spent.”

I saw her, I think with Fotheringay, and what struck me was how a perfectly ordinary woman could open her mouth and turn into a spell-binding beauty. It was more than her voice, she became transformed and no one could take their eyes off her. Then the song ended and she was, once again, just Sandy who liked a pint or five. I’ve never seen anything like it.

DC and Warner Bros. have a problem with wildly misunderstanding the point of superheroes. They took the Flash, who always had one of the best costumes in the comics biz, and turned it into some crazy-busy armored thing.

They seem to go through periods where they remember, hey, grimdark is a sometimes food! And then it seems like they relapse and dive right into the “Everyone wears spikes, superheroes kill people all the time and never smile, Plastic Man isn’t fun unless he’s scary” pile of bullshit.

Not that Marvel doesn’t fuck up plenty. (Hello, “Captain America is now a Nazi!”) But at least they have Disney to breathe down their necks about not turning their Highly Marketable Properties into a maze of snapped ribs and blood bruises…

I’ve binged watched most of the Marvel Universe on Netflix. While I’ve enjoyed most of them, they seem to taking a strange direction. I remember superheros working WITH the police and specifically not being vigilantes.

The Marvel characters are constantly at odds with law enforcement. I’m not sure wouldhave appreciated that when my kid was young.

She was a brilliant singer, but she was crazy as hell. Still, a brilliant singer. My brother-in-law knew her. (He was a founding member of Silly Wizard, a scots-trad fusion band)

I read a biography of her called ‘I’ve Always Kept A Unicorn’. Yes, she had kind of a troubled life. It sounds like she was always her own worst enemy.

I’m not sure origin story Marvel heroes were all that tight with the police, but they ended up with at least a comfortable relationship with them. I haven’t watched Iron Fist yet, but the other three (halfway through Luke Cage), they seem just….at least even with the police, if not super friendly.

Law enforcement has never really been as good as we want to pretend. There is no Sheriff Andy and there is no Adam-12. And when it really gets bad we’re back to the people in places like St. Louis whom the old deep south would envy.

These shows can’t quite say that yet but many of the people, especially if they’re minorities. watching it understand.

That’s really something from the Silver Age comics in the ’60s. DC was run mostly by the older, more conservative generation. Marvel’s edge was in appealing to college kids and the counterculture.

So DC’s heroes were the ones who were deputized by the police. Marvel’s usually had a less cooperative relationship. Spidey was wanted by the police almost constantly, and lots of Marvel cops thought the Avengers and the Fantastic Four were showboating prima donnas. The press tended to be anti-superhero, too. J. Jonah Jameson hated Spider-Man, and the rest of the media treated superheroes like celebrities — not as people to worship, but as people to gossip and sermonize about. And then there’s the X-Men. You just can’t tell what those filthy mutants are up to…

IOW, you’re not wrong — the two universes were designed that way.

They were a great band. Andy Summers had a voice like an angel. Johnny Cunningham was the best trad fiddler in Scotland. Both are now dead. The band was inducted into the Scottish Trad Hall of Fame in 2012. Bob is still close with Gordon Jones, who lives with his wife up in the Lake District. I met him at Bob and Holly’s wedding. Great guy. Phil Cunningham (Johnny’s brother) is a regular on the Transatlantic Sessions series and is a good buddy of Aly Bain. They do an annual Hogmanay BBC Scotland show.

Bear in mind two things about literacy tests as used to subvert voting rights in the Jim Crow South:

a) The 1965 Civil Rights Act banned the tests. (The 1964 Voting Rights Act only partially banned them, which is why they were changed in 1964 to comply with the Act while still denying the vote to minorities where they could.)

Rand Paul is opposed to the 1965 Civil Rights Act and would like to see it overturned.

b) The 1965 Act was only declared constitutional during the Nixon Administration in 1970, in a deeply-divided court that could not agree on the rationale of literacy tests being unconstitutional, in Oregon v Mitchell (1970)

re: #63 scottslemmons

They put their faith in the guy that did Watchmen but didn’t seem to notice that Watchmen was a searing critique of the human condition such that “superheroes” wouldn’t work not because of powers or tech, but because of the complexity of problems and people. [Adding in that each Watchmen main character is a dismantling of the corresponding intellectual property that DC purchased and hired Moore to do the pitch write for…the Question, Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, and (one I can’t remember?)]

I’m not really invested in characters being one way—that train has set sail long ago, and “continuity” is clapped-out, but the current versions are pretty dull. They’re not even interesting in a wild-ass way, like Miller’s old Batman or the Red Son version of Superman. Just…flat.

That said, Flash has a costume that would be almost impossible to look good on a real person in motion. He’s one of those comics characters who’s basically a colored-in nude with a few accessories, often as not, and there’s not real life materials (except…paint and yoga pants) that clings like that. Of course they’re doing armor; it’s forgiving.

With Marvel I have the advantage of…not being invested at all. I’m -meh- on the cinematic universe. It has moments, but I get the giggles because Loki is Henry V and Doctor Strange is Richard III. I wanted Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man because it was Edgar Wright and got an amuse-bouche helping. I may see the next Thor in the theater because it’s Taika Waititi heading the picture. The Netflix shows have been engaging but uneven. Jessica Jones was deeply thoughtful and well-acted but sometimes slow. Luke Cage had compelling ideas and some good performances, but had some weird flabby bits. Daredevil started compelling and then got bogged down in ninjas. Iron Fist never reached the surface of the ninjas. The Defenders sort of bobbed atop ninjas and had some good moments, but the villains were disappointing and there was a persistent Iron Fist aroma to it.

Rude Pundit - The Short Bus to Armageddon: Trump at the UN

Whatever you think of the U.N., most of the leaders in that room are people who have dedicated their lives to the politics of their nation. Most of them are vastly educated, well-read, worldly, and, to varying degrees, smart enough to know a fucking idiot when they see one. So you had to imagine the reactions to Trump at the General Assembly ranged from horror to bemusement to calculating how easy it would be to roll this rube (looking at you, Saudi Arabia).

Republicans focusing on important stuff, and that stuff is protecting their constituents (corporations):

Republicans Protecting the Little Guy and by Little Guy We Mean Equifax (goes to Wonkette)

The GOP has introduced bills to cap direct damages in class action suits against credit reporting agencies (and eliminate punitive damages entirely). In addition:

The other GOP bill making its way through the House would weaken the existing Credit Repair Organizations Act, which prevents “credit repair” outfits from making exaggerated claims of how they can improve consumers’ credit scores. A measure sponsored by California Rep. Ed Royce would exempt credit agencies from the act and allow them to charge customers up front to maybe fix their credit. It would also let them

keep “reasonable value for services” even if the consumer cancels within three days.

In other words, a credit agency could still pocket a consumer’s cash just for having opened a file in that person’s name.

I’m genuinely scared that what we’re seeing is the terminal phase of the US’s disconnection from history, such that “the Nazis” exist only as bogeymen and video game sprites, and the qualities that made the Nazis so dangerous have just been shrugged off*.

You can see the same thing with people treating “white” as just another race, with all racism becoming about everything-equally-bad. It’s a position you can only arrive at if you don’t look at the anatomy of racism as it actually happened.

It’s weaponized shallowness. The concept doesn’t have an context or interior complexity, any solidity, so incredibly shitty, dangerous notions are now just…yet another option.

*I am especially scared of this because HOLY BALLS is there a lot of stray Nazi notions floating about, wrapped in Bircher and post-Bircher candy coating.

On the issue of Equifax’s records breach which affected nearly every adult American (not counting the separate breach that they had in Argentina), a credit counsellor recommends that the free monitoring service offered by companies for such things is in fact meaningless.

He (as several others I have seen recently) recommends putting a credit freeze on all four of the credit bureaus (Equifax, Trans Union, Innovis, and Experian).

krebsonsecurity.com

(more at the link on how to do this):

There is shockingly little public knowledge or education about the benefits of a security freeze, also known as a “credit freeze.” I routinely do public speaking engagements in front of bankers and other experts in the financial industry, and I’m amazed at how often I hear from people in this community who are puzzled to learn that there is even such a thing as a security freeze (to be fair, most of these people are in the business of opening new lines of credit, not blocking such activity).

Also, there is a great deal of misinformation and/or bad information about security freezes available online. As such, I thought it best to approach this subject in the form of a Q&A, which is the most direct method I know how to impart knowledge about a subject in way that is easy for readers to digest.

re: #197 Blind Frog Belly White

Whether or not the EC CAN BE eliminated is not relevant. If we elected by direct popular vote, there’s no reason citizens in the territories couldn’t vote in that election.

The Constitution prohibits territorial citizens from voting in national elections separate from the Electoral College.

Insular areas, such as Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, are not allowed to choose electors in U.S. presidential elections or elect voting members to the U.S. Congress. This grows out of Article I and Article II of the United States Constitution, which specifically mandate that electors are to be chosen by “the People of the several States”. In 1961, the 23rd amendment to the constitution extended the right to choose electors to the District of Columbia.

Any U.S. citizen who resides in Puerto Rico (whether a Puerto Rican or not) is effectively disenfranchised at the national level. Although the Republican Party and Democratic Party chapters in Puerto Rico have selected voting delegates to the national nominating conventions participating in U.S. presidential primaries or caucuses, U.S. citizens not residing in one of the 50 states or in the District of Columbia may not vote in federal elections.

There are reports that at least six people have been killed.
“90% or more of the island’s buildings have been destroyed.”
Power lines are down, as are communications between the island and the rest of the world.
Landslides have blocked roads.
There are reports of severe flooding.

I don’t find it surprising for PR to have a large number of TV stations. It’s population is larger than those of 21 states. Plus, the majority of the population lives along the coast and the island is quite mountainous, blocking line of sight transmissions.

zerohedge.com

More at the link:

Mauldin has been with Equifax as CSO / CISO since 2013. She was previously Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer at First Data Corporation, until July 2013. Mauldin was also SunTrust Banks’ Group Vice President from 2007 to 2009.

So far so good, but a problem emerges: according to LinkedIn, Mauldin’s stated educational background has no security or technology credentials, and consists of…. a bachelor’s degree in music composition (magna cum laude) and a Master of Fine Arts degree in music composition (summa cum laude), both from the University of Georgia. Once again, this is the person who was in charge of keeping your personal and financial data safe — and whose failure to do that have put 143 million at risk from identity theft and fraud.

This news article, posted down stairs, may be directly related to the Erdogan situation:

There was a story yesterday that Congress was pushing the State Department to deny a license for Sig Sauer to sell handguns to the Turkish government. If they don’t have the export rules, no one would even know about the deal. And I’m sure that gun manufacturers don’t want the bad press that comes when these stories pop up.

Governor Brian Sandoval (R-Nev.) just submarined Senator Dean Heller.

thenevadaindependent.com

Gov. Brian Sandoval has sharply split with fellow Republican Sen. Dean Heller Wednesday over a last-ditch proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act, joining a bipartisan group of nine other governors in asking Senate leadership not to consider the Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson proposal.

The governors, who have written several letters to Congress throughout the health-care discussions this summer, asked Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer in a letter on Tuesday to support bipartisan efforts to stabilize the federal health care system. They suggested that Congress consider measures to control costs, stabilize the market and address patients struggling with mental illness, chronic health problems and drug addiction.

Attack on black student at Cornell probed as possible hate crime, former fraternity house vandalized

A black student, a junior at the Ivy League school, had returned home to find a group of students near his driveway, arguing with the people he lived with. When he asked them to leave they insulted him, calling him racial slurs, before four or five of them started punching him in the face, the New York Times reported.

He was left “bloodied” by the incident and was hospitalized.

More Aryan supermen. The university says that an “un-affiliated fraternity” is responsible. A black student group has named them as Psi Upsilon, suspended in 2016 for various infractions. University president Martha Pollack did say rather pointedly that “Based on what we know, and pending final investigation, Cornell will not consider Psi Upsilon’s reinstatement as an affiliated fraternity,” That means FOREVER, assholes.

Mueller is treating Trump like a boss - a mob boss.

Bonanno, Gambino…Trump?

The first two are recognizable as bosses of the notorious Five Families, as the leading organized crime outfits of New York and other areas of the country were once known, and the third obviously belongs to the president of the United States and his famous New York real estate family. Other than location, location and location, the three names also have something else in common: aggressive federal investigations.

At least that’s the analogy made by one former federal prosecutor and current law professor in describing the tactics undertaken by special counsel Robert Mueller as he delves into Russia’s alleged collusion with the Trump campaign last year, as well as into the president’s finances.

“They seem to be pursuing this more aggressively, taking a much harder line, than you’d expect to see in a typical white-collar case,” Notre Dame professor Jimmy Gurulé told The New York Times. “This is more consistent with how you’d go after an organized crime syndicate.”

Greets and saluts from the Resistance in the NYC metro area.

Puerto Rico is getting slammed by Maria. Mexico is picking up the pieces after a major quake hit Mexico City on the 32nd anniversary of a major quake that devastated the city. There are hundreds of casualties and collapsed structures throughout the region, and it could have been so much worse had the country not enacted stringent building codes after the earlier quake.

Rescue and relief efforts are underway there, but Puerto Rico’s got to wait out the storm before they can begin to assess the damage.

So of course Trump’s got to be busy tweeting about ratings and show that he knows nothing about how insurance works as the GOP rushes to try and destroy Medicaid so that they can ultimately use the money to force massive tax cuts that benefit the rich and shift the burdens to everyone else:

Graham Cassidy is a huge mess, and the GOP is resorting to the standard issue lie. They just lie about what it does, and the consequences.

There’s a reason they’re rushing this bill through without full CBO scoring - because they know it’d fail miserably, and it would cause untold misery for all Americans as protections for preexisting conditions disappear and people see their premiums spike. It also hurts the states that did the most to help their residents by expanding coverage and shifting a portion to those that didn’t (redistributing wealth from mostly blue states to red ones), but skimming money so that they can use it for tax cuts later.

It’s a mess, but Trump will push this even though Trump said he’d want a plan that covers more people at better cost. He wants a win, and doesn’t care what he signs.

GOP governors whose states expanded coverage are against this bill, because they know it’s a shit show for everyone, but the GOP will play their games in Congress because they’re insulated from the consequences. They’re just following the dictum from the GOP extremist base that wants to eliminate Obamacare.

Here’s a pro-tip: repeal the name Obamacare and rename it Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.*

PPACA is the official name, but the GOP wouldn’t stop calling it Obamacare so the name stuck.

Maybe baked sweet potatoes with just a drizzle of olive oil and honey.

Funny story about potato pancakes though, my one brother must have tried latkes at a school event that had Jewish food so he asked my grandmother to make some potato pancakes. Grandma’s familiar with making them since well we eat a lot of potato pancakes in Rusyn-American cuisine too. She makes them and then he decides he’s not hungry. Needless to say, she wasn’t too happy about that. What do you guys like your potato pancakes with? I’m all about apple sauce. I’ve been meaning to try them with horse radish though. My cousin suggested it. Ketchup is good too. I don’t mind them with sour cream but I like sour cream more with baked potatoes.

Don’t even start me on this bullshit. Do I want single payer? Hell yes, I do. At the cost of people dying to get it? No.

People who are the “well, this will bring forth single payer” completely ignore how many more Americans will have to die before that happens.

Honest to god, I am HAUNTED by this family. I just went into this offering to take their dog, the dog the whole family loves to pieces, and once I found out the extent of the why as to their having to give up this dog, I have not stopped thinking about them. I try to imagine how I would be - and I can’t. I cannot imagine the stress and pain they live with minute by minute.

I am pretty blessed. Ok, a screwed up my knee a couple weeks ago (and went into a pretty bad pity party - and “met” this girl four days later. It’s like the universe was reminding me how good I have it. I have always tried to live my life where I remind myself that no matter how bad something in my life is, others are worse off. Always. This was a reminder to me when I was all feeling sorry for myself because I hurt.

Woe is fucking me.

I hope this family gets the help they need. I literally cry for people I have not yet met (Saturday we are picking up the dog) every single day.

There is no statute of limitations for civil fraud on IRS filings. If the IRS finds it at any time, they can go back and get you.

Also, the 6 year SOL for criminal fraud can be tolled by other activities such as actions to conceal the fraud.

Say Manafort committed the fraud in 2011. He had until October 15, 2011 to make a proper filing via auto extension. However, he continued to perpetuate the fraud into 2012, 2013, and 2014. Each of those years also contained elements to conceal the earlier fraud. That would allow the IRS to extend the fraud charge to October 15, 2020 because they tolled the statute of limitations.

October 15 makes sense if they don’t have anything to toll the statute of limitations; without more I can’t assess whether they do or not.

Chad Felix Greene ✔ @chadfelixg
I want to live in a world where ppl wearing swastikas or rainbows or Black Power shirts can coexist without physically attacking each other.

So, from Chad’s twitter page I see he wrote a book titled Reasonably Gay.

I think Chad is confused. A lot.

I am getting the impression a lot of folk have lived in a very protective cocoon.

Looks like the real life lessons are about to be learned.

Good luck Chad and others that seem so naive. I hope you make it.

This Chad idiot is a RWNJ. No naiveté here. Another of his books is apparently There is No Such Thing as Hate Speech.

‘Reasonably Gay’ is four separate volumes of ‘essays and arguments’. Here how he describes his writing in his Amazon blurb:

I am a gay conservative and I think it’s time you met me. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what being on the right side of the political spectrum means in general, but certainly if you happen to be gay.

This is a collection of essays and arguments, articles and personal stories, from my own life and experience in the political world. Through looking at topical discussion and objective observation I have attempted to provide a different perspective on issues many believe they are familiar with. The truth is often surprising and the reality often uncomfortable, but I am always honest.

These writings span several years of thought, reaction and introspection with many published and others seen for the first time here. While the primary topic of discussion revolves around my personal area of strength, LGBT issues, many others delve into the world of conservative thought and insight on other topics.

but enough about me…

And, yeah, as EPR-radar noted, he’s clueless enough to write a book called There is No Such Thing as Hate Speech. LGBT issues are not his personal area of strength.

Naive has strong connotations of being innocently duped rather than being willfully evil.

No gay conservative in the US is an innocent dupe. They all know that many in the US right want to see non-straights dead, and delude themselves one way or another that they personally aren’t in danger of being the star player in an auto da fe.

Authentic wingnut gibberish from a Texas school district:
Pledge controversy deemed misunderstanding

Juniors and seniors were given a presentation on the Pledge of Allegiance, with a slide saying it’s the law to stand during the pledge and stay silent during the moment of silence.

It’s not the law. In fact, a 1943 Supreme Court ruling in West Virginia protects students from having to stand during the pledge.

MISD representatives said it was a misunderstanding in context, but that’s not how students saw it.

“They shouldn’t enforce it like that, because now people think it’s the law,” said Damien Jurado.

“I feel like everybody should stand,” commented Edgar Ruiz.

Midland ISD’s Woodrow Bailey added that if students wish not to participate, their parents can fill out a form to remove them during the pledge.

Seems pretty clear to me:

Delusion in a way is a symptom of being naive. You are lacking so much that you form delusional thoughts like “all of our enemies can have a big ol’ group hug.”

By the way I agree with you. I just don’t think naivety is always innocent. I think some people work their way into the state by ignorance and other methods. Note that Google definition also covers a lack of judgment. That also isn’t always innocent.

Make sure your sample is random. The loud young conservatives are pretty much the definition of winger. Many more conservatives are just quiet. Kind of like the older generations. True that’s a fair point. But enablers aren’t leaders. I’m not talking about the base so much as future leadership. It is true in a sense that this is their rebellion. This is their way of saying FU to a society whose President after 9/11 declared we weren’t at war with Muslims. FU to a nation that elected a black man. They’re much like other fascist movements in history. Revolutionary and at the same time reactionary.

That’s right. Smart guys. I probably got some Viking blood.

Supposedly there is evidence that the earliest Vikings were traders, who later went to raiders. According to some academicians, during the first sacking of Lindisfarne the locals at first assumed that the Vikings were there to trade and went down to meet with them.

And it true that the Swedes went east, while the Danes and Norwegians tended to go west.

Another tidbit on the Vikings. (I am listening to the Great Courses lecture series on them right now…), during the Viking raids on Ireland, the transiting Viking raiding parties burned out most of the Pict and Angle-Saxon settlements in the Highlands, opening it up for Gaelic settlement from Ireland.

re: #483 HappyWarrior

What I find myself worried about is that most young right wingers are more closer to the alt-right than they are a sensible center right. So, what happens as they get older and more and more of them enter elected politics? I have a feeling we’re going to see people in our legislatures and eventually Congress who were directly associated with Spencer or maybe even Spencer himself.

And it was not that long ago that many felt racism and bigotry were not as present in the younger people of America that have had people of color, gays and other political thinking as friends, family, coworkers, etc.

What happened?

This is a new social study. Maybe it is just too easy to trigger it in humans. There are appearances and then there is reality.

It appeared you people were more tolerant. Maybe they were just going along for those appearances. Once things like money, threats, etc. enter the picture and people becomes frightened by it all, they just go to standard settings and out comes the scapegoating.

Add in a Trump and the speed increase with the cover he provides.

It makes Domino’s look like some kind of artisan-style pizza.

I’ve never seen any kind of a commercial pizza look that bad. Frozen, Cheap Cheap, Chef in a Box, Mom and Pop Shop…nothing. It is a one in a kind ‘pizza.’

Detroit Local Powers First EV Charging Road in North America The road, about a mile from Local 58's hall, uses rubber-coated copper inductive-charging coils buried under the asphalt that transfer power to a receiver pad attached to a car's underbelly, much like how a phone can be charged wirelessly. ...
