I know not to read comments…but the Trump thing with the Golden State Warriors got me curious.

So, I checked the main story at ESPN. I went into the comments prepared to bail out as quickly as needed.

I was surprised. Many seem to backing the Warriors and are very critical of Trump. Some of the comments could be posted here and fit right in.

Good to see. Usually ESPN can turn into a wingnut fest.

To be fair, it’s not like the Dolphins are going to have a chance to visit the White House any time soon
And, as a Jets fan I really hope that Miami suffers a crushingly miserable loss tomorrow while visiting New Jersey.

Unfortunately, I don’t expect a statement from the NY Jets ownership rebuffing Trumps comments. He did appoint Woody Johnson to an Ambassadorship.
But, at least my NY Giants have responded.

The Science Of Cooking (from the same folks as Cooks Illustrated) sez to load up one side of the grill with unlit charcoal and wood chunks, and pour lit charcoal overtop. Same idea as the Smoked Meat Forum - burn your fire DOWN.

So, the flaming charcoal has been layered on the unlit + chunks of Plum wood (have I told you about all the volunteer plum trees in my yard?) The fire has calmed down a bit. The water pan has been filled. The brisket has gone under the dome. Now I just need to keep it between 250 and 350 till it won’t stay over 250 anymore!

Will post pics when it comes out…..

The Cubs couldn’t book their tickets to Washington fast enough. And out of all of the championship teams out there, you’d think they would have the most right to be entitled and choosy about whom they visited.

[Embedded content]The key to understanding Trump: He likes people who like him. He hates people who don’t like him.

first, who cares. second, i cribbed and modified this from someone at politicalwire.com

the key to understanding trump is that many human personalities, once formed, can’t and don’t change in meaningful ways

many of us held on to a faint hope that once he saw the enormity of the office’s responsibility he might be awed into at least **trying** to be a President. Trying to learn new things for once in his life. Trying to seek out and heed good advice. Trying to use a “light touch” on policy, so that at the very least he didn’t cause serious damage, and could slip away after four years and bask in being part of the most exclusive club on earth.

he’s reaffirmed and doubled down on every ignorant, reactive, impulsive and obnoxious tendency that we’ve seen throughout his entire life.

Question for you (and any other runners): If your town had a perfectly good sidewalk, for what reason(s) would you ignore it and run in the road instead? Pretty much everybody I see running through town on my way into work in the mornings runs on the road instead of on the sidewalk. Well, I run on the sidewalk? Unless there isn’t one, in which case I run on the road.

I have no idea, honestly. I could speculate that it could be because of not wanting to trip when crossing the road but honestly that is speculation. (For the record, I can still surprise people coming out of their driveways on the sidewalk. Did that twice this week.)

I could understand that, and perhaps it is less even than it looks as I’m driving along beside it. It looks like it is rather well maintained (there are a number of freshly poured segments, indicating that the town is meticulous in repairing it), so I was just wondering if there was some other reason besides the fact that runners are certifiably insane.

.

The problem with looking at Kaepernick about that is that he was a marginal NFL level quarterback on his best days. If he had never taken a knee, his career would probably look the same as it does now. I get the feeling that he knew he was short for the NFL so he grabbed the bully pulpit that he had and used it for all it was worth even if it sped up the end of his NFL career. More power to him and his moral courage - something utterly alien to Trump.

I think you will. This will be a major thing tomorrow in every NFL football game, by all the pregame and after-game shows, by the talking heads during the game and on the Sunday political shows.

And that may just be what Trump wants.

He’s losing it over this for a reason. Just not sure what crazy thinking he is going through on all of this and to what end.

I think it’s pretty simple, actually: He saw it on Fox News this morning, and had to comment on it. Then, when people didn’t just agree with him, he had to double down. I don’t think there’s any grand plan other than he’s always got to be right and the last one that said anything.

Well whatever it is it’s good to know the Gen. Kelly has a firm grip on the Trumpster.

This may be the firm grip.

We just don’t know how really bad it probably is with Trump and how much Kelly has to fight the idiot every single day.

That’s the point I was trying to make earlier. I’m no fan of Kelly, I just wonder how bad it would get if he, as is, was not around.

I think it is one of those watch what you wish for kind of things.

Yet the 49ers didn’t keep Kaepernick and no other team picked him up. Makes it seem as if he was fired for his protests.

Hope that every Black NFL player takes the knee during games tomorrow. Send a strong message to the Bigot-in-Chief.

Kaepernick exercised his option to opt out of the final year of his contract and became a free agent after the 2016 season. The 49ers did not let him go, release him or fire him.

re: #64 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

Question for you (and any other runners): If your town had a perfectly good sidewalk, for what reason(s) would you ignore it and run in the road instead? Pretty much everybody I see running through town on my way into work in the mornings runs on the road instead of on the sidewalk. It drives me a little crazy (and is a little dangerous when they come around a parked car!), and I never understood why.

As others have said, sidewalks are often uneven. They have tree roots growing under them, and they have curb cuts that aren’t always easily seen. In San Mateo, we have rolled curbs on many streets, and the sidewalk slopes toward it - which means your feet are not landing on a flat surface, but rather a slope. Not ideal.

Another thing is that asphalt is not as hard as concrete. Less shock, less damaging to your joints.

And then there’s all the vegetation that hangs over sidewalks, and the fact that people walk on them, often taking up the entire sidewalk. This, BTW, is why you don’t ride a bike on the sidewalk, either.

People who don’t run, or ride, often are not aware of these issues and just wonder why runners and cyclists can’t just go someplace else. Drivers want cyclists to ride in the gutter pan, which is full of parked cars, leaves, broken glass, etc. Or they want you to take the ‘bike path’, which is a misnomer, because it’s usually full of dawdling families out for a stroll, novice rollerbladers trying not to land on their asses, and people who run or walk with ear buds and don’t hear you shouting

I put most of my miles in on the local multi-use path. Weekends are awful. The weekday users are at least a generally respectful crowd that tries to acknowledge each other and follow basic rules (the county park that it cuts through excepted, because you get a lot of little old ladies out for a stroll there).

For my part, I run with only one earbud and wear it on my right, and keep as far to the right as I can, unless passing a slower pedestrian. Anyone calls out an on your left, I’ll raise a hand to show that I heard them and are aware of their presence. I get just as irate (if not more so) with people who are being completely oblivious to their surroundings.

In general, I run under the “don’t be a dick” rule in shared spaces. A lot of people fail at this lesson in general, so it’s not surprising that they fail it here too.

We’re talking about two different things here - he barked about the NFL last night.

He saw the Steph Curry story about the Warriors going to the White House on Fox this morning.

I’m pretty sure that the two stories have merged at this point, because athletes in both leagues are pretty pissed, for different reasons. Instead of having one sports league full of pissed off athletes, he now has two.

But I still believe that he sees how close his whole administration and his family are two indictment and prosecution, and it’s freaking him the fuck out.

And I’m fine with this. I hope he’s losing sleep over it all, every night.

When I lived 2 miles from work, I biked the Foster City pedway to and from. Generally not much problem, plus in the evenings the wind would push me halfway home! I did have one near miss with a guy who thought “On your left!” meant he should pivot on his LEFT foot to face me….

For serious rides, though, I abandoned it after one Sunday ride - in addition to all the families that spread across the thing from edge to edge, there was a young couple, obviously had JUST gotten their first rollerblades! They were doing that dance that says, “I’m trying not to fall!” That wasn’t the bad part. The bad part was they were also trying to walk their dog, who was on a retracto leash. The dog was all the way across the pedway from them, in the bushes. I had to go off the pedway, all the way around the dog and the bushes, and back on.

The road is safer.

My belief is that it was always vaporware.

I think they put together a list of the Fascists most likely to elicit an angry response, and advertised it. Ben Shapiro was in town last week, and I bet the expectation was there’d be a big violent clash over Shapiro’s speech that they could then use as an excuse to cancel their ‘Free Speech Week’ , and claim that college campuses have become too dangerous for Conservatives.

But apparently Shapiro’s speech went off without too much of a hitch, and at the same time, people who were listed as speakers started telling the press that nobody’d ever invited them, AND the organizers never bothered to arrange any venues for the talks.

Belafon then made his comment while quoting my NFL thing and said Trump saw it on Fox News and it was just Trump going off because of Fox.

I was just trying to make the NFL stuff clear in that it started last night at his rally.

The agency has not provided details about which Superfund sites the material came from, why the contaminants at issue have not been identified and whether there’s a threat to human health.

The one-sentence disclosure about the 517 containers was made Friday night deep within a media release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency summarizing the government’s response to the devastating storm

Stephen Curry has some additional words.

ESPN - Donald Trump says Warriors not welcome at White House

Stephen Curry said his beliefs were “cemented even further about how things in our country are going” after President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday morning that the Golden State Warriors are not welcome at the White House to celebrate their 2017 NBA championship.

“My stance is the same as it was [Friday],” Curry said Saturday. “And even kind of cemented even further about how things in our country are going, especially with [Trump] representing us in a very damaging way.

“I don’t know why he feels the need to target certain individuals rather than others. I have an idea of why, but it’s kind of beneath a leader of a country to go that route. That’s not what leaders do.”

On Friday, Curry said he would vote no if the team were invited to the White House. Teammate Kevin Durant previously told ESPN that he would not go. Warriors owner Joe Lacob told ESPN on Friday that he planned to meet with the team Saturday morning before its first practice to discuss the issue and that the White House was aware of the timeline.

President Trump made his message clear Saturday morning on Twitter before that meeting could happen.

Cizilla is like a lot of other Americans when it comes to race in that they deny what their eyes are showing them until it becomes crystal clear that what they’re seeing is real. That clarity hit when Trump made his comment yesterday calling the NFL protesters “sons of bitches.” They, too, are abusers because they don’t see what they don’t want to see, and because they make excuses for the Abuser-in-Chief. The mistake Trump made was not only in attacking a specific player but in attacking other players of the same race and forgetting that he was attacking NFL teams and their owners. He’s a clueless, addle-brained, immature dotard who seems to think because he’s POTUS, he can boss others around. He just discovered at the age of 71 that not everyone he tries to intimidate and issue orders to will permit him to do it.

re: #172 Eclectic Cyborg

Lebron had the N word spraypainted on the gate of one of his houses not so long ago. These stupid fucks like Posobiec don’t have a fucking clue what that’s like and never will.

Also, we all know what “inner city”’ is code for. I’d like to know when was the last time Posobiec did anything for the benefit of an inner city (hint: probably never).

Why would Posobiec do anything for the inner city?

That is the whole point to these guys. LeBron should stay amongst his own and take care of them so they don’t come into Posobiec’s area where he wants to take of his own.

Never shall the twain meet.

“You are not supposed to protest.”

I witnessed the same thing during the Civil Rights Era. We were told not to protest and call attention to our grievances, and some time in the not specified future, our grievances would be addressed. I always view the “do not protest” persons as those who refuse to acknowledge that certain problems exist in our country and as wanting to maintain the status quo. I also notice that these are the same persons who say they love the Constitution while advocating against its contents.

So Ben, you just want us all to be Good Germans? No protesting? No disorder? If I were on Twitter, I’d tell you to go look up my hero Sophie Scholl who on February 22, 1943 said these last words: “How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause? Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us, thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?”

These people are righteous Senator. It’s a pity you are not.

How he’s threatening violence against NFL players who protest==>

222
FormerDirtDart  Sep 23, 2017 • 7:23:36pm

To Donald Trump

I believe in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of this country even though at the time they were drafted, their tenets of life, liberty justice for all and eventual freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press and petition amendment ratified in Dec 1791, only applied to a select group of people and not ones that looked like me.

Donald Trump, I listened to your Alabama rally rant and could not believe how easily you say what you say.

We have become numb to your outlandish acts, tweets and recent retweet of you knocking down Hillary Clinton with a golf ball that you hit.

Donald Trump, your boorish and disgusting actions are not funny. They actually promote violence against women especially when your followers act out what you say.

I used to walk the grounds of UVA in Charlottesville, VA as a graduate student only to watch in horror as those same grounds became a battlefield being trod by Nazi and anti-Semitic worshippers armed with assault style weapons ready to fight to make America White again. (their words). You actually said there were nice people on both sides. People armed and ready to kill other Americans for the purpose of eradicating Blacks, Jews, Hispanics, Mexicans, Asians, Latinas and even the first real Americans, Native Americans to make America Great Again were “nice people”?

Comparing this to what you say in condemnation of an unarmed black man peacefully protesting by exercising his constitutional First Amendment rights by silently taking a knee is appalling, unnerving and reprehensible.

Today, you called Colin Kaepernick “a son-of-a-bitch.”

You said he should be fired.

You are calling his white mother a bitch.

The strong contrast in language for a black man and a Nazi is very telling. Do you have any sense of decency or shame in what you say to the American people that are part of your duty to serve respectfully with dignity, presidentially?

Our National Anthem has been edited to try not to offend, because when Francis Scott Key penned the song he watched freed slaves fighting for the British and wrote this stanza:

“And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

I guess if I were a slave back then I probably would have done anything to obtain freedom from my American oppressors who were whipping, killing, raping, dismembering, hanging or releasing the dogs on people like me all under our Constitution.

In 1814 former slaves fought with the British for their freedom from their American enslavers.

Key witnessed a battle from a ship off the Maryland shore at Fort McHenry, which inspired him to write what became our National Anthem.

I served my country not in the military, but as 1 of 362 American Astronauts that have explored the universe to help advance our civilization. Not just Americans, but all humans. I also was briefly in the NFL and stood for the National Anthem with my hand over my heart. What makes us great is our differences and respecting that we are all created equally even if not always treated that way.

Looking back at our planet from space really helps one get a bigger perspective on how petty and divisive we can be. Donald Trump, maybe you should ask your good friend Mr. Putin to give you a ride on a Soyuz rocket to our International Space Station and see what it’s like to work together with people we used to fight against, where your life depends on it. See the world and get a greater sense of what it means to be part of the human race, we call it the Orbital Perspective.

Donald Trump, please know that you are supposed to be a unifier and a compassionate and empathetic leader. If you can’t do the job then please step down and let someone else try. I pray that you do the right thing.

May God bless you.

Sincerely,

Leland Melvin
Former Astronaut and NFL Player
