Video: Trump Is Compared to Harvey Weinstein, Says He Was Different: “That Was Locker Room”

The entire right wing has been desperately trying to attach Harvey Weinstein to the left, because that’s what they do, ignoring the fact that the entire right wing voted for and supports a president who openly boasted — numerous times — about committing sexual assault.

Now Trump is trying to play it like he knew about Weinstein all along. In this clip the Trump-thing begins by saying, “I’ve known Harvey Weinstein for a long time, I’m not at all surprised.”

Then, when a reporter asks him about his infamous comments boasting about grabbing women “by the pussy,” he brushes it off with: “That’s locker room. That’s locker room. Yeah.” Then ignores the reporter.

Strange, though; when this photo was taken recently, Trump didn’t seem at all concerned about Harvey Weinstein’s reported sexual harassment.

I predicted a couple days ago on a listserv that right-wingers would start calling for Muslim control instead of anything on guns, to distract from killings.

The NRA is using a similar distraction by appearing to be reasonable on bump stocks, by arguing they are accessories so they don’t necessarily have a problem with their regulation or banning (get them to say that about drum magazines though). About the only way you can kill someone with a bump stock is if you club them over the head with it.

The problem isn’t the stock, it’s what that stock is attached to (and that the overwhelming majority of killings are with pistols, not rifles.)

I saw it full-frame in an almost-empty IMAX theater at a 10:30 show last night. It ended at 1:15 am.

On another note, yesterday I finally grew some balls and decided to read into what happened in Manchester on May 22nd, after avoiding it for so long. The initiative was even more important after what transpired in Las Vegas last week.

I got around to reading the victims, and by the time I got to the 8 year old who lost her life, I fucking lost it. I broke down and bawled, I couldn’t understand how any fucking animal could ever do something so callous. Her sweet innocence, senselessly taken away by some 22 year old prick who was so upset over the US strikes in Syria that he would take the lives of those who had nothing to do with it.

Now I will forever be even more haunted by the fact that my biggest fears have transpired: the senseless slaughter of children. Salman Abedi will forever be a name I curse.

Ending sentences with strong words is a good idea, but not when it means contorting the language away from natural expression.

I once read that the rule that sentences should not end in prepositions was an arbitrary decision by some writer of a grammar textbook, and somehow the admonition became canon law. In practice, forcing the preposition off the end makes the sentence seem stilted or pretentious.

Yunno, a long time ago, we were invited to the wedding of some friends. Our two-year-old daughter started getting antsy about 20 minutes into the service, so rather than fight it, I took her outside to run around.

I recall there was a rather grumpy looking fellow sitting on a bench outside the church with his arms folded. I kinda wondered what he was doing there.

Found out later it was the bride’s father: he had driven up nearly two hours from Mannheim to NOT attend the wedding because he disliked the Church.

He and his wife also attended the reception, which I found to be a pleasant, relaxed, informal outdoor gathering. Seems that they both left in a huff because “it was not what they had expected”.

Guess they wanted table seating assignments and a series of speeches and all the standard affair.

Could not help but be reminded of them when I read about Pence and his visit to the game.

American mass media is not only the most powerful entity in the country, it is arguable that it is the country - mass media is the national consciousness and national culture all in one. The American people as a whole follow their media narrative without question. Trump is president because the American media, including supposedly ‘liberal’ outlets, decided that he would be promoted and Hillary Clinton attacked. Similarly, although relatively few Americans have heard about Harvey Weinstein before now, his name will be all over every network for the next several months, in order to make Democrats look bad and to normalise Trump. All outlets, including the ‘liberal ones’, will do this. If this were an election year, this would be the only thing talked about until the day of the election, so as to make Democrats look compromised. Weinstein will leave the news cycle when there is either another scandal that can be used to attack Democrats or liberals, or when there is another disaster, because fear of disasters and mass slaughter is also a strong media narrative.

It took me a while to really get to grips with how monolithic US media is, and how heavily invested it is in maintaining white male supremacy. Most of the US media were willing to do it more or less subtly until FOX decided to do it overtly and with an iron fist, and now the NYT and CNN are forced to become less subtle to keep up.

I commented on Twitter about that a while ago. Most of Trump’s photos are grip-and-grins, or line-ups with MoronDon in the middle and everyone standing stiffly, like a posed photo at a wedding. No imagination. No spontaneity.

Ate at a BJ’s Restaurant/Taphouse. Good beer selection, and tried one of their pizzas (for which they’re supposedly known for). It’s deep dish, which I’m not a big fan of, but the veggie pie was quite fresh.

My big complaint - not enough sauce and cheese to keep the veggies in place.

Still, it was a functional and good savory torte.

100% of the political media is different between the US and Australia - I understand that. It doesn’t stop my outrage at the way the US media treats the GOP compared to the democratic party. I am Barack Obama’s No 1 fan in Australia and was outraged for 8 years at the treatment he received in his own country while the rest of the world adored him. As for trump - his existence brings home the benefits of a Westminster style government. He would not have lasted as leader of a majority party in Australia/PM after his tape recorded remarks about women.

It probably should be added that the treatment of non-white immigrants and the ideas of white supremacists are not so different between the two countries. We are still at the stage of trying to hide things rather than bring them out into the open.

Ok. Since people are sharing recipes, here’s a quick to prep dinner I just made.

It’s a vegetable stack w/cheese (for lack of a better description).

I had a bunch of Japanese eggplant, onions, and green peppers, so I sliced all up.

Threw all of them into the oven to roast - lightly coating everything with olive oil, and giving the eggplant a bit of balsamic vinegar to cook in.

I let cook until nearly golden brown. Removed from oven, and then began stacking the onion, eggplant, and pepper alternating with some mozzarella cheese. Threw the completed stacks back into the oven to melt/brown the cheese.

Once done, removed from oven and plated with a bit more balsamic vinegar splashed on top.

Nice thing about this is that we can use most any kind of vegetable that can be sliced thin, or you can add mushrooms too.
