I just got home from running errands and haven’t caught up on anything yet and am not sure I want to but part of my Christmas present from my mother and I’m fairly certain it is a sportspuck stick signed by the captain of my local team and I am kind of bouncing off the walls right now.

Just in case anyone thought that Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein was one of the good guys for appointing Robert Mueller to investigate the Trump/Russia connections (due to Sessions’ recusal), this ought to dispel that right away:

A high-ranking Department of Justice official took aim at encryption of consumer products today, saying that encryption creates “law-free zones” and should be scaled back by Apple and other tech companies. Instead of encryption that can’t be broken, tech companies should implement “responsible encryption” that allows law enforcement to access data, he said.

“Warrant-proof encryption defeats the constitutional balance by elevating privacy above public safety,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in a speech at the US Naval Academy today (transcript). “Encrypted communications that cannot be intercepted and locked devices that cannot be opened are law-free zones that permit criminals and terrorists to operate without detection by police and without accountability by judges and juries.”

While many Senate Republicans were hoping to move on from the dispute, which began over the weekend, the White House appeared interested in underlining the consequences for any Republican who crosses Trump.

the consequences? that trump will act like a five year old and make it even less likely that he’ll accomplish his goals??

So many of these people in senior leadership positions are just there for the money and to get waves from the crowd at whatever equivalent to Soviet May Day parades their organization has.

When confronted with anything requiring courage, these people defecate in panic and run away. Truly the kind of ‘leadership’ you don’t want to step in.

It’s going to be real interesting how the players respond to this. Anyhow, if people took the time to educate themselves about why Kaep knelt, they’d know he talked to Nate Boyer and that his teammate Eric Reid who knelt with him is the son and nephew of veterans. But wingnuts had to make this about their patriotism and respect for the military.

People tend to forget that in most sports leagues, the commissioner is there to represent the owners. Not the fans, not the players. Just the owners.

Hockey is great at proving this to you repeatedly. Booing the commissioner is a well-honored tradition.

CEO of major corporations
Members of US Cabinet.

You have a majority African-American league. A lot of those who have regardless of their socio-economic status experienced some sort of racism. Of course, they’re going to kneel and the pathetic thing is so many white fans don’t attempt to empathize. Oh, they love what these guys do on the field but off the field if they speak their mind on a controversial issue. It’s like what I read Bob Gibson say, that he’d be just another n-word to many white fans if he didn’t have the talent he did. And that was 50 years ago.

Unfortunately I suspect this is a lost cause in the court of public opinion. The mainstream media has been mostly useless on this since day one, and I no longer think simple incompetence is the explanation. It’s enemy action, IMO.

The most frustrating thing to me is no one wanted to listen to Kaepernick’s side of the story. They just wanted to smear him as some ungrateful athlete that was doing what he was doing in response to being benched. I’m all for athletes speaking out on issues even if I disagree with them. This is their country too. Frankly, the people who made Donald Trump into a political commodity and now gulp our President have no right to complain about any athlete speaking their mind.

The 25th amendment is a complete non-issue. No way will that pack of t**** cronies turn on their master.

The real check vs. a grossly unacceptable president is the power of Congress to impeach him and remove him from office. There should be no distractions from this point, which makes Congressional Republicans entirely responsible for all the shit t**** does in office.

My old former candidate Tom Perriello is great. Doing all sorts of things with Virginia Dems on all levels. Bernie Bros, take note, this is how you’re supposed to act when you lose a hard fought primary.

Good for him. That shows that he’s a cool guy who can put aside his personal feelings to work for the public’s good.

Tom unlike Bernie did not let the adoration we gave him- richly deserved by the way get to his head. The man’s a former diplomat who worked on prosecuting war criminals and people who forced soldiering on children in Africa. He’s a team player. I adore him and I hope the primary this spring wasn’t his swan song because he’s one of the good guys. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happily supporting Ralph and know he’ll make a good governor but Tom really appealed to me in the heart. Ralph is an excellent guy too. We were really blessed this spring.

Weinstein’s a Dem donor. The end. Donald Jr doesn’t care that there’s a photo of his Dad and stepmom with him. Or that his Dad didn’t even really condemn what Weinstein did. He just knows the rubes that read his Twitter know Harvey’s a Hollywood producer, liberal, and yes Jewish and that makes them go wild.

To say nothing of the “conservative” sentiment that sexual harassment is a sham, isn’t important, is “natural” male behavior, or in one of various ways the fault of the accuser.

They care about this kind of behavior within the narrow windows of “it’s one of ours making the accusation, with enough social capital to make it stick,” “can’t avoid how taundry and skeevy it is because the details already leaked,” and “use as bludgeon against opponent.”

Never in good faith.

Goodell plays the exact role that he is extremely overpaid to do. The owners pay him to take on all negative backlash that the NFL creates. He is paid to be hated. They make it look like he wields all the power so when the public doesn’t like a decision he has to answer for it not any of them. He does nothing important without an approval from a majority of the owners. One may almost feel for the man, that is until you hear his salary of course.

I just saw my first Adams ad watching Jeopardy tonight. He literally brought up his distant relationship to the Adams Presidents. Herring is awesome. I’ve followed him a bit since he won the district where I attended community college and showed the first cracks of Loudoun County becoming a bluer county. Saw a great ad by him tonight about how he’s helped sexual assault victims. He’s also a great voice for LGBT people and immigrants. Justin Fairfax is a great guy too. Hilarious but sad at the same time. I’m sure this reflects how most Europeans view America’s strange obsession with guns. Love how at the very end, they blame Republicans for the gun-mania.

Dan Patrick on his sports show asked what will Jerry Jones do if his two big stars, Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliot decide to take a knee? Will he bench them knowing the paying fans will not see a good game and chances of winning go way down?

I wonder what he does if the whole team calls his bluff for a game and they all take a knee? Is he going to fire all of them and get a new team?

Who has the power here?

Yes.

Since I’m in the AL Central, I don’t exactly hold a deep-seated love for the Indians, but I despise the Yankees so goddamn much that I will root for any team that can beat the crap out of them. And the Indians would make a great story after their heroic run fell just short last year.

Sniff. Someone remembers.

I hope they beat the Yankees too.

I watched my Twins get their socks blown off by the Yankees last week. Well, let’s be fair - they more threw it away than by any truly stellar baseball from the pinstripe brigade. But I had to make myself watch it because they had a chance right up to the end, and it was historic.

I really wanted the Twins to win that one. I hate how quickly the Yankees have reloaded. Judge is unreal in his power and they got a lot of other good, young talent. And man if they get Machado in FA in a couple years, I’m going to be sick.

Give the Twins a top-rotation ace and a few back-bullpen relievers, and their hitters are as dangerous as the Cubs. Could be a Central Showdown in the 2018 World Series if our front office can work the right deals.

It’s funny you suggest that because I was re-watching John Adams with my brother the other night and I jokingly said it was time for a Franklin Pierce mini-series, Pierce being Millard’s successor. Pierce was in many ways worse than Buchanan IMO. Because while Buchanan supported the Union during the war, Pierce despite being a New Hampshire man was a CSA apologist.

I hope the head office at the NFL realizes that if they insist that players stand for the anthem, there’s nothing to prevent them from, say locking arms and bowing their heads, or looking up while making fish-lips, or whatever. If the players are determined and united, the league cannot create rule after rule without looking foolish.

sweet christ.

Back in the days of the Celts and the pre-Christian bardic tradition, it was believed that a bard’s insults were power. They could shape countries and kill the weak subjected to them. Even the strongest leaders had to bow to the power of the righteous indignation of an unleashed bard.

There is a bard for today.

I’m kinda morally flexible on occasion. Is Goodell’s job still open? (half sarc)

Lot of people are being led around by the nose with this Weinstein thing.

It’s so easy to manipulate people.

That’s how Trump got to where he is.

But that is also how many people with wealth and power get to where they are.

After a century of domestication by the advertising industry, I’m afraid that most Americans just want to be consumers. It’s all to easy to simply consume the “news” or whatever media available.

I don’t want to come off as one of those internet doomsayers. All it not lost.

But I think we have to accept that a lot of people just don’t think very deeply, or want to do any research.

Weinstein is just another old rich guy who had his way because he could. He ought not be looked upon as anything else. To try to make him out as anything else (e.g., as a Democratic Party operative) is just creating propaganda.

Here’s the thing: there are many, many “Harvey’s” all across America, in the boardrooms of corporations or just as the owner of the local store.

Yet how much investigative journalism is really done to find these people?

Why do we only hear about the ones that can be used to make political hay?

re: #62 Unshaken Defiance

Look, everyone on the side of the black players needs to start harping on one point first. Donald Trump and the Klan wing of the GOP are not to be allowed to define the protest, Kapernicks motives or BLM. No they are not disrespecting the flag, the Office of The Presidency or fair minded police officers.

They are protesting a specific commonly accepted abuse that has to stop.

My all time sports hero is Bill Russell, and the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Then:

The FBI maintained a file on Russell…The FBI described Russell in his file as “an arrogant Negro who won’t sign autographs for white children”

Now:

On September 26, 2017, Russell posted a photograph of himself to a previously unused Twitter account in which he was taking a knee in solidarity with NFL players kneeling during the US national anthem. Russell wore his Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the image was captioned with “Proud to take a knee, and to stand tall against social injustice.” In an interview with ESPN, Russell said he wanted the NFL players to know they weren’t alone.

Let’s play fantasy flick casting!
Trump Alec Baldwin
Bannon Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Miller Jim Parsons
Conway The Cryptkeeper/Jonah Goldberh (or Maria Bello)
Melania Sarah Paulson
Tillerson Vince Vaughan
Kelly Luke Wilson
Ivanka any blonde starlet
Jared PharmaBro

Floodwater is no joke. A woman in Houston died recently from necrotizing fasciitis while helping her son clear his house.

Floodwaters require waders. You don’t want that water touching your skin.

You know, it’s neat Em did that. I was just talking with my brother who was a big Em fan back in the day and also someone who liked Kid Rock a little. He contrasted Em as an artist and person with Kid Rock. I know he’ll like this a lot. This is really good.

Sheila Zilinsky: Las Vegas Massacre Was A Pagan Illuminati ‘Blood Sacrifice Ritual’

Radical right-wing commentator and rabid conspiracy theorist Sheila Zilinsky posted a new podcast over the weekend in which she spent an hour explaining that the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas was really an Illuminati/deep state/occult ritual sacrifice.

Claiming that there is deep Illuminati/Free Mason/occult significance behind everything from the hotel floor from which the attack occurred, the number of guns found in the room, the location of the concert across from the pyramid-shaped Luxor hotel and countless other minor details, Zilinsky insisted that is it obvious that the massacre was a pagan “blood sacrifice ritual.”

“Folks, this whole thing in Las Vegas,” she said, “this killing field in front of this sphinx, this pyramid, this obelisk, this is no coincidence. The pyramid, the place of death; do you know that the Luxor has been there 23 years, the man had 23 guns and his room was 23? This is not a coincidence in these number sequences.”

“Las Vegas is a cesspool,” she continued. “It’s full of defilement, it’s full of debauchery, that’s why they call it Sin City. I don’t know if I’d brag about that. It might even be the world class pit of debauchery, really.

She got that last part right, which is probably why it is such a popular destination for fundy vacationers.
Speaking of the Illuminati, this was Taco Tuesday at our weekly meeting tonight. Yum.

“I don’t think MAGA Polls is getting the response it wanted.”

All it would take to change those numbers would be for a Fox talking head to mention it, tell its viewers how/where they can access it, and instruct them to participate in it to MAGA. Sheeple will always be sheeple.

Hey, they have to blow off steam somewhere.
Me? I avoid that sort of place like the plague. If I want a vacation I’m going out somewhere with plants and bugs and dark skies. If I want to sin, I’ll do it in the comfort of my own home.
